Abstract:The risk factors, outcomes, and typical patterns of intraoperative hypothermia were studied in neonates to better guide the application of insulation measures in the operating room. This retrospective study enrolled 401 neonates undergoing surgery under general anaesthesia with tracheal intubation, including abdominal surgery, thoracic surgery, brain surgery, and others. The study collected basic characteristics, such as age, sex, weight, birth weight, gestational week, primary diagnosis and American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) grade. Perioperative data included preoperative body temperature, length of hospital stay, length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay, intubation time, postoperative bleeding, postoperative pneumonia, postoperative death, and total cost of hospitalization. Intraoperative data included surgical procedures, anaesthesia duration, operation duration, blood transfusion, fluid or albumin infusion, and application of vasoactive drugs. Abstract:Background:Intraoperative hypothermia (core temperature <36.0°C) is common during the perioperative period and can result in adverse consequences, especially in children. We aimed to determine the incidence of intraoperative hypothermia and its risk factors in pediatric patients during burn surgery.Methods:In the present study we enrolled 197 pediatric patients with burn injury undergoing surgical debridement and skin grafting. Factors, such as total burn surface area (TBSA), were collected and analyzed to identify the potential risk factors for intraoperative hypothermia.Results:The incidence of intraoperative hypothermia among all patients was 17.8%. Compared with patients with normothermia, children with hypothermia were associated with larger TBSA (25% vs 15%, p<0.001) and with less intraoperative active warming (34.28% vs 54.93%, p<0.05). In addition, compared with patients with moderate-degree burn, patients with severe and extremely severe burn were associated with much higher risk of intraoperative hypothermia [severe: odds ratio (OR)=3.805, 95% confidence interval (CI)=1.396-10.368, p=0.009; extremely severe: OR=6.933, 95% CI=2.604-18.462, p<0.001]. TBSA was the only independent risk factor that emerged as being strongly associated with intraoperative hypothermia (OR=1.068, p=0.001) and could be used to predict the occurrence of hypothermia when combined with other factors. TBSA for predicting intraoperative hypothermia by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed a good predictive ability with an area under the ROC curve of 0.758.Conclusion:TBSA is an important risk factor for intraoperative hypothermia in pediatric patients with burn.

Abstract:During laparoscopic surgery, if the patient's core temperature is below 36 °C, it can be diagnosed as intraoperative hypothermia, which can lead to a series of adverse events, including perioperative bleeding, abnormal drug metabolism, and postoperative infections. [ 1 ] In addition, intraoperative hypothermia can also lead to prolonged stay in postanesthesia care unit or intensive care unit, decreased thermal comfort, and reduced patient satisfaction and increased hospitalization expenses. [ 2 , 3 ] Therefore, the incidence of intraoperative hypothermia cannot be underestimated. According to existed research reports, the incidence of intraoperative hypothermia ranges from 4% to 72%, with individual studies reporting a maximum of 90%. [ 4–6 ] So far, although new approaches have been continuously used to guide temperature management in perioperative patients, the current nursing standards in many countries and regions do not require maintaining perioperative room temperature, which means that the prevention and treatment of intraoperative hypothermia still need to be improved.

Abstract:Background: Pressure injuries result from prolonged pressure and lead to tissue damage, infections, extended recovery times, and an economic burden. Purpose: To explore risk factors for pressure injuries in patients who underwent surgery under general anesthesia. Methods: This retrospective study included patients who underwent surgery at a regional educational hospital in southern Taiwan from January 1, 2018, through December 31, 2018. Results: A comprehensive multivariate analysis was used to identify the prominent risk factors for pressure injury among the 11 231 patients enrolled in this study. These risk factors were an age of ≥65 years; surgery duration of >120 minutes; diastolic blood pressure of 30 minutes during surgery; intraoperative use of dopamine, norepinephrine, or epinephrine as vasopressors; American Society of Anesthesiologists physical classification of III or higher; minimum intraoperative body temperature of ≤35°C; blood loss of >500 mL; and a supine or prone surgical position. Conclusions: This study identified several pressure injury risk factors related to surgical conditions and patient characteristics. Surgical teams must monitor, control, and manage these factors, prioritize staff education, and adopt preventive protocols.

Exploring body morphology, sacral skin microclimate and pressure injury development and risk among patients admitted to an intensive care unit: A prospective, observational study

Abstract:Objective: To determine the association between body morphology, sacral skin microclimate and their impact on the development and risk of pressure injuries among patients in an intensive care unit. Methodology: A prospective observational exploratory study was conducted over 30 weeks. Repeat study observations occurred multiple times a week for 28 days or until discharge. Participant inclusion criteria were ≥ 18 years of age, expected intensive care length of stay > 24 h and intact skin over the sacrum region. Setting: The study was conducted in a 36-bed intensive care unit of a major metropolitan public hospital in Queensland, Australia. Outcome measures: Pressure injuries were staged and independently verified according to the international pressure injury classification system. Pressure injury risk was determined by the Braden scale score and subepidermal oedema, using a subepidermal moisture scanner at the sacrum. Results: Of the 93 participants recruited, an inverted triangle body shape (p =.049), a BMI > 25 kg/m2 (p =.008), a standard foam mattress type (p =.017) and increased length of stay (p <.001) were associated with an increased pressure injury risk according to subepidermal oedema. Participants with increased sacral skin temperature (p <.001), mechanical ventilation (p <.001), vasoactive drugs administered (p =.003), increased sequential organ failure assessment score (p =.047), neurovascular diagnosis (p =.031) and increased length of stay (p =.027) were associated with increased pressure injury risk according to the Braden scale score. Conclusion: Body morphology and skin microclimate are associated with pressure injury risk during critical illness. Implications for clinical practice: Subepidermal oedema was associated with a patient's shape, body mass index and mattress type, factors that directly influence the pressure loading and the skin, whereas the Braden scale was associated with sacral temperature and clinical measures of critical illness. Consideration of body morphology and skin microclimate in pressure injury risk assessment could lead to more specific prevention strategies targeting high risk patients.

Abstract:Hip fractures are common orthopedic injuries and are associated with significant morbidity/mortality. Intraoperative normothermia is recommended by national guidelines to minimize additional morbidity/mortality, but limited evidence exists regarding hypothermia's effect on orthopedic patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence of intraoperative hypothermia in patients with operatively treated hip fractures and evaluate its effect on complications and outcomes. Retrospective chart review was performed on clinical records from 1541 consecutive patients who sustained a hip fracture and underwent operative fixation at the authors' institution between January 2005 and October 2013. A total of 1525 patients were included for analysis, excluding those with injuries requiring additional surgical intervention. Patient demographic data, surgery-specific data, postoperative complications, length of stay, and 30-day readmission were recorded. Patients with a mean intraoperative temperature less than 36°C were identified as hypothermic. Statistical analysis with univariate and multivariate logistic regression modeling evaluated associations with hypothermia and effect on complications/outcomes. The incidence of intraoperative hypothermia in operatively treated hip fractures was 17.0%. Hypothermia was associated with an increase in the rate of deep surgical-site infection (odds ratio, 3.30; 95% confidence interval, 1.19-9.14; P=.022). Lower body mass index and increasing age demonstrated increased association with hypothermia (P=.004 and P=.005, respectively). To the authors' knowledge, this is the first and largest study analyzing the effect of intraoperative hypothermia in orthopedic patients. In patients with hip fractures, the study's findings confirm evidence found in other surgical specialties that hypothermia may be associated with an increased risk of deep surgical-site infection and that lower body mass index and increasing age are risk factors for intraoperative hypothermia. Changes of transcutaneous oxygen pressure in compressed areas of surgical patients: A prospective study of influencing factors

Abstract:Objective: To compare the transcutaneous oxygen pressure (tcpO2) measurement values and changes in compressed areas of surgical patients before and after surgery and to explore the related factors influencing the tcpO2 changes before and after surgery. Methods: Researchers selected 100 patients who underwent elective surgery in a tertiary comprehensive hospital from November 2021 to September 2022. A self-designed general information questionnaire was used to collect patient general information and disease-related data, including gender, age, smoking and drinking history, hypertension, diabetes, local skin temperature and humidity, related biochemical indicators, and activities of daily living score. Researchers used a transcutaneous oxygen pressure meter to measure and record the tcpO2 of the compressed areas (sacrococcygeal area, scapula area, and heel area) before and after surgery. Results: Among the 100 patients, 37.00 % (37/100) developed type I/II pressure ulcers after surgery, and 30 patients (81.08 %) showed regression within 2 h after surgery. There was no statistically significant difference in the preoperative tcpO2 measurement values of the scapula and heel areas between the group with and without pressure ulcers, but the preoperative tcpO2 measurement value of the sacrococcygeal area in the group without pressure ulcers was higher than that in the group with pressure ulcers (P < 0.01). The factors affecting the preoperative tcpO2 measurement value of the sacrococcygeal area were smoking and surgical type. After surgery, the tcpO2 measurement values of the three areas in the group with pressure ulcers were significantly lower than those in the group without pressure ulcers (P < 0.01). Comparing the tcpO2 values of different areas, it was found that the tcpO2 value was lowest in the sacrococcygeal area, followed by the heel area, and the tcpO2 value in the scapula area was highest both before and after surgery (P < 0.01). The main factors affecting the postoperative tcpO2 measurement value were diabetes, Glassgow score, surgical time, and intraoperative red blood cell transfusion. Conclusion: The measurement of tcpO2 is related to the incidence of surgically acquired pressure ulcers, and this technology may become an important tool for quantitative assessment of the risk of pressure ulcers.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Postoperative pressure ulcers are important indicators of perioperative care quality, and are serious and expensive complications during critical care. This study aimed to identify perioperative risk factors for postoperative pressure ulcers.METHODS: This retrospective case-control study evaluated 2,498 patients who underwent major surgery. Forty-three patients developed postoperative pressure ulcers and were matched to 86 control patients based on age, sex, surgery, and comorbidities.RESULTS: The pressure ulcer group had lower baseline hemoglobin and albumin levels, compared to the control group. The pressure ulcer group also had higher values for lactate levels, blood loss, and number of packed red blood cell (pRBC) units. Univariate analysis revealed that pressure ulcer development was associated with preoperative hemoglobin levels, albumin levels, lactate levels, intraoperative blood loss, number of pRBC units, Acute Physiologic and Chronic Health Evaluation II score, Braden scale score, postoperative ventilator care, and patient restraint. In the multiple logistic regression analysis, only preoperative low albumin levels (odds ratio [OR]: 0.21, 95% CI: 0.05-0.82; P < 0.05) and high lactate levels (OR: 1.70, 95% CI: 1.07-2.71; P < 0.05) were independently associated with pressure ulcer development. A receiver operating characteristic curve was used to assess the predictive power of the logistic regression model, and the area under the curve was 0.88 (95% CI: 0.79-0.97; P < 0.001).CONCLUSIONS: The present study revealed that preoperative low albumin levels and high lactate levels were significantly associated with pressure ulcer development after surgery.
Explore the effect of pressure and time of compression on the risk of intraoperatively acquired pressure injury based on theoretical framework: A prospective study

Abstract:Surgery is a high risk factor for the occurrence of pressure injury (PI). On the basis of theoretical research, pressure and duration of pressure are key factors affecting PI. Pressure is affected by the individual pressure redistribution capacity. So our study aims to explore how the surgery time and pressure intensity affect the occurrence of PI and what are the risk factors. A prospective study. A total of 250 patients who underwent elective surgery in a grade-A general hospital from November 2021 to February 2023 were selected and divided into a group of 77 patients with IAPI (intraoperatively acquired pressure injury) and a group of 173 patients with no IAPI. Visual pressure inductive feedback system and body composition analysis technology were used to record the local pressure value and change of patients before and after anaesthesia. Relevant data of the patients were collected to explore the influencing factors. The maximum pressure and average pressure at the pressure site of the same patient changed before and after anaesthesia, and the pressure after anaesthesia was significantly higher than that before anaesthesia. There was no statistical difference in the average pressure after anaesthesia (p > 0.05), but the maximum pressure in the IAPI group was higher than that in the non-occurrence group (p < 0.05). The average pressure multiplied by the operation time in IAPI group is significantly higher than that in the non-IAPI group (p < 0.01). Multiple linear regression analysis (stepwise regression) showed that fat-free weight, age, waist circumference, body mass index (BMI) and gender were taken as independent variables into the regression model, affecting the maximum pressure. In addition, operation time ≥4 h may be a high risk factor for IAPI. In future studies, more objective research tools can be applied to improve the accuracy of predicting the risk of IAPI. In addition to gender and BMI, follow-up studies may consider including measures such as waist circumference and fat-free body weight in IAPI risk assessment to guide the clinical nursing work more scientifically.
Predictors of superficial and severe hospital-acquired pressure injuries: A cross-sectional study using the International Pressure Ulcer Prevalence™ survey

Abstract:Background: Prevalence of hospital-acquired pressure injuries has declined over time. However, it is unknown if this decline is consistent for different stages of pressure injuries. It is also unknown if risk factors differ between superficial (stage 1 and 2) and severe (stage 3, 4, deep tissue, and unstageable) pressure injuries. Objective: To examine changes in prevalence of superficial and severe hospital-acquired pressure injuries from 2011 to 2016. To evaluate differences between risk factors associated with superficial versus severe hospital-acquired pressure injuries. Design: Retrospective analysis of the 2011-2016 International Pressure Ulcer Prevalence™ data. Setting: Acute care hospitals in the USA. Participants: 216,626 patients had complete data. Methods: Prevalence of all, superficial, and severe hospital-acquired pressure injuries was calculated annually from 2011 to 2016 and linear trendlines were generated. Two logistic regressions examined risk factors for superficial and severe hospital-acquired pressure injuries. Results: Prevalence of superficial hospital-acquired pressure injuries declined significantly from 2011 to 2016. However, prevalence of severe pressure injuries did not show a reduction. Risk factors that significantly increased the risk of both superficial and severe pressure injuries were: increased age, male gender, unable to self-ambulate, all types of incontinence, additional linen layers, longer lengths of stay, and being in an intensive care unit. Body mass index (BMI) had a U-shaped relationship, where the likelihood of having either type of pressure injury was highest for low and high BMIs. Conclusions: A decline in superficial, but not severe, hospital-acquired pressure injuries suggests current prevention techniques might not adequately prevent severe pressure injuries. Generally, risk factors for superficial and severe pressure injuries were highly similar where all 14 of the risk factors were significant in both regression models. However, five risk factors in particular - ICU stay, presence of an ostomy, patient age, ambulatory status, and presence of a fecal management system - had substantially different effect sizes.
Understanding the role of intraoperative hypothermia in perioperative opioid requirements in immediate implant-based breast reconstruction

Abstract:Background: The relationship between perioperative temperatures and postoperative pain is unknown. The present study investigated the relationship of intraoperative hypothermia and perioperative opioid requirements after immediate implant-based breast reconstruction. Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted on patients undergoing immediate implant-based breast reconstruction from 2019-2023. Patients were classified into the hypothermic group (majority of procedure <36.0 °C) or normothermic group (majority of procedure ≥36.0 °C). Cumulative inpatient opioid requirements (morphine milli-equivalents [MMEs]) and frequency of patients requiring "high-dose opioids" (≥100 MMEs) were collected and compared between the groups. Results: In total, 536 patients (835 breasts) were included, among whom 135 (25.1%) were hypothermic. The hypothermic group had lower mean intraoperative (88.4 vs. 99.1 MMEs, P = 0.007) and postoperative (45.6 vs. 56.8 MMEs, P = 0.006) than the normothermic group. Mean (B = 14.6, P = 0.004) and nadir (B = 10.4, P = 0.038) intraoperative temperatures directly predicted higher opioid requirements while higher percentages of the procedure time spent under 36 °C (B = -27.6, P = 0.004) predicted lower opioid requirements. The hypothermic group was associated with 66% decreased odds of requiring high-dose opioids after adjusting for differences in patient and operative characteristics (P = 0.007). Conclusion: Hypothermia is associated with decreased perioperative opioid requirements. Future studies should further investigate ideal temperature thresholds for warming protocols to minimize postoperative pain.
107 Nursing Interventions in the Temperature Management of Acute Burn Patients in the Burn Operating Room

Abstract:Abstract Introduction The development of hypothermia in the operating room is a known risk that has been well documented in the literature. The typical surgical patient undergoing general anesthesia experiences a temperature loss of approximately 4°F without warming interventions. Burn patients are at a higher risk for hypothermia due to the greater body surface area exposure and evaporative losses related to their burn injury and length of their operative interventions. The purpose of this review is to determine the average loss of body temperature of the burn surgical patient as it pertains to total body surface area (TBSA) injury and the use of warming interventions. Methods A two year retrospective review was performed on acute burn surgical cases in our two dedicated burn operating rooms within our burn center. Data obtained included TBSA of each case, pre and post-procedure patient temperatures, maximum OR room temperature, and use of adjunctive warming interventions. The surgical procedures were categorized by percent TBSA burn of < 10%, 10-20%, 21-40%, and >40%. Results We identified 415 cases that were included in this review from 2019 and 2020. As expected, patients with larger TBSA involvement led to a greater temperature decline. As seen in Table 1, forced warm air devices were utilized in 67.2% of cases. In our large Burn OR suite, we utilize a heat panel that is integrated in the ceiling above the OR table. Utilization of these devices is determined by the Burn OR nurse. They are either initiated prior to the start of the case or intra-operatively if the patient’s temperature is declining and intervention is required. Mean operating room temperatures were 80.1°F in all cases with cooler room temperatures in the smallest TBSA group. Our average patient temperature decline was 1.25°F in all cases. However, in the largest TBSA group, the mean temperature loss was 2.68°F which is significantly less than the 4°F loss in general anesthesia procedures without warming interventions. Conclusions The use of elevated ambient operative room temperatures along with other warming interventions aid in the maintenance of core body temperature in the burn surgical patient. Having dedicated burn operative nurses with investment in the outcome of the burn surgical patient contributes to the overall safety and the maintenance of temperature homeostatic state.

Abstract:AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To screen the factors of intraoperatively acquired pressure ulcer and establish a new risk assessment model of intraoperatively acquired pressure ulcer.DESIGN: This is a prospective study.METHODS: A total of 1,963 patients who received neurosurgery, orthopaedics, paediatric surgery and cardiac surgery therapy in Sichuan Academy of Medical Science and Provincial People's Hospital in China from October 2015-October 2016 were enrolled in the study, and their clinical parameters were collected. Multivariable logistic regression analysis and decision tree analysis were used to analyse and screen the factors of intraoperatively acquired pressure ulcer and establish the risk assessment model of intraoperatively acquired pressure ulcer.RESULTS: The risk factors for intraoperatively acquired pressure ulcer included the application of external force during operation (β = 1.10, OR = 3.20), lean body mass (β = 1.08, OR = 2.95), time of operation ≥6 hr (β = 2.66, OR = 14.30), prone position operation (β = 1.13, OR = 3.10), cardiopulmonary bypass during operation (β = 1.72, OR = 5.59) and intraoperative blood loss (β = 0.67, OR = 1.95). The new risk assessment model showed that the AUC of ROC curve was 0.897 (p < .001). According to the maximum principle of Youden's index, the sensitivity, specificity and Youden's index J of the model were 0.81, 0.88 and 0.69, respectively, when the cut-off point was set at π = 0.025.CONCLUSIONS: A new and relatively reliable assessment model for intraoperatively acquired pressure ulcer is established.RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: Pressure ulcers remain a challenge in clinical nursing. A new risk assessment model of pressure ulcers that is applicable to surgical patients is highly recommended.

Abstract:Abstract Small cell carcinoma of the cervix (SCCC) is a rare histological entity of uterine cervical cancer. Compared with other common histological types, squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma, the outcome of SCCC is poor because of the high incidence of nodal or distant metastasis even with early stage. In this review, current consensus of epidemiology, pathology, and initial treatment for SCCC will be discussed.
Risk factors and outcomes of intraoperative hypothermia in neonatal and infant patients undergoing general anesthesia and surgery

Abstract:Objective: The incidence of intraoperative hypothermia remains high in pediatric patients during anesthesia and surgery even though core body temperature monitoring and warming systems have been greatly improved in recent years. We analyzed the risk factors and outcomes of intraoperative hypothermia in neonates and infants undergoing general anesthesia and surgery. Methods: The data on the incidence of intraoperative hypothermia, other clinical characteristics, and outcomes from electronic records of 1,091 patients (501 neonates and 590 infants between 28 days and 1 year old), who received general anesthesia and surgery, were harvested and analyzed. Intraoperative hypothermia was defined as a core temperature below 36°C during surgery. Results: The incidence of intraoperative hypothermia in neonates was 82.83%, which was extremely higher than in infants (38.31%, p < 0.001)—the same as the lowest body temperature (35.05 ± 0.69°C vs. 35.40 ± 0.68°C, p < 0.001) and the hypothermia duration (86.6 ± 44.5 min vs. 75.0 ± 52.4 min, p < 0.001). Intraoperative hypothermia was associated with prolonged PACU, ICU, hospital stay, postoperative bleeding, and transfusion in either age group. Intraoperative hypothermia in infants was also related to prolonged postoperative extubation time and surgical site infection. After univariate and multivariate analyses, the age (OR = 0.902, p < 0.001), weight (OR = 0.480, p = 0.013), prematurity (OR = 2.793, p = 0.036), surgery time of more than 60 min (OR = 3.743, p < 0.001), prewarming (OR = 0.081, p 20 mL/kg fluid (OR = 2.938, p = 0.004), and emergency surgery (OR = 2.142, p = 0.019) were associated with hypothermia in neonates. Similar to neonates, age (OR = 0.991, p < 0.001), weight (OR = 0.783, p = 0.019), surgery time >60 min (OR = 2.140, p = 0.017), pre-warming (OR = 0.017, p 20 mL/kg fluid (OR = 3.074, p = 0.001) were relevant factors to intraoperative hypothermia in infants along with the ASA grade (OR = 4.135, p < 0.001). Conclusion: The incidence of intraoperative hypothermia was still high, especially in neonates, with a few detrimental complications. Neonates and infants each have their different risk factors associated with intraoperative hypothermia, but younger age, lower weight, longer surgery time, received more fluid, and no prewarming management were the common risk factors.

The relative contributions of interface pressure, shear stress, and temperature on tissue ischemia: a cross-sectional pilot study

Abstract:Tissue ischemia is thought to play a major role in the development of pressure ulcers. Pressure, shear, and temperature are acknowledged contributors, but the relative magnitude of each factor is largely unknown. A cross-sectional pilot study was conducted on the sacrums of four healthy volunteers to estimate the relative contributions of each variable by systematically varying and assessing the resulting level of ischemia in the skin tissue. Using a repeated measures design, 21 combinations of temperature (28˚C, 32˚C, and 36˚C); pressure (0 kPa, 8.0 kPa, and 13.3 kPa), corresponding to 0 mm Hg, 60 mm Hg, and 100 mm Hg; and shear stress (0 kPa, 6.7 kPa, and 14.0 kPa), corresponding to 0 mm Hg, 50 mm Hg, and 100 mm Hg (practical testing values), were tested twice, for a total of 168 trials. Using laser Doppler flowmetry, the magnitude of post-load reactive hyperemia was used as an index of ischemia. Fixed Effects and Ranks linear regression models were developed to predict three different indices of reactive hyperemic magnitude with pressure, shear stress, and temperature as the variables. Pressure and temperature were always highly significant predictors of the extent of reactive hyperemia (P <0.0001 for Perfusion Area, peak minus baseline blood flow, and Normalized Peak blood flow), and the contributions of shear stress were insignificant (P = 0.5351 for Perfusion Area, P = 0.6403 for Peak minus Baseline blood flow, and P = 0.8941 for Normalized Peak blood flow). Depending upon the model, comparison of coefficients suggested that an increase of 1.0˚C contributes as much to reactive hyperemia in the skin as 12 mm Hg to 15 mm Hg of interface pressure (coefficient ratios of temperature/pressure are 14.33 for Perfusion Area, 11.77 for Peak minus Baseline, and 12.97 for Normalized Peak, respectively). The findings also indicate that post-load metabolic repayment varied with temperature only at higher pressures, suggesting protective vasodilation was able to keep pace with mild compression. If confirmed in subsequent studies, the results suggest that managing both skin pressure and temperature may reduce the risk of ischemia.

Abstract:Purpose: Pressure injuries can often occur in patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic, or other invasive procedures, so it is important to assess patients in the perioperative period. This study was conducted to determine the incidence and risk factors of perioperative pressure injury. Design: A cross-sectional, prospective, and descriptive study. Methods: This study involved 158 patients who met the study's eligibility criteria between May 2022 and July 2022. The data were collected using the Patient Information Form, Munro Scale, Braden Scale, and pressure injury staging form. The patients were monitored postoperatively or for 3 days. Findings: Pressure injury developed in 13.9% of the patients. Perioperative risk factors were age, edema, mobilization time, parenteral nutrition, blood transfusion, and glucose level, while preoperative albumin level was lower in patients with pressure injury. In the postoperative period, the risk factors were duration of mobilization and transition to oral feeding, length of intensive care unit stay, and low Braden score. In multivariate analysis, the variables that showed significance with the risk of pressure injury were postoperative Munro score and edema. Conclusions: It is crucial to evaluate the risk factors for pressure injury in patients who have undergone surgical procedures.
