Abstract:We define the total energy-momenta for (4+1)-dimensional asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetimes, which comes from the boundary terms at infinity in the integral form of the Weitzenböck formula. Then we prove the positive energy theorem for such spacetimes, following Witten’s original arguments for the positive energy theorem in asymptotically flat spacetimes.

Abstract:The positive energy theorem for weighted asymptotically flat spin manifolds was proved by Baldauf and Ozuch (2022) and for the non-spin case by Chu and Zhu (2024). In this paper, we generalize the positive energy theorem for 3-dimensional asymptotically anti-de Sitter initial data sets to weighted asymptotically anti-de Sitter initial data sets assuming that the weighted dominant energy condition holds.

Abstract:We establish the inequality for Henneaux–Teitelboim's total energy–momentum for asymptotically anti-de Sitter initial data sets which are asymptotic to arbitrary t-slice in anti-de Sitter spacetime. In particular, when t = 0, it generalizes Chruściel–Maerten–Tod's inequality in the center of AdS mass coordinates. We also show that the determinant of energy–momentum endomorphism Q is the geometric invariant of asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetimes.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the spacetime positive mass theorem for asymptotically flat spin initial data sets with arbitrary ends and a non-compact boundary. Moreover, we demonstrate a quantitative shielding theorem, subject to the tilted boundary dominant energy condition. Our results are established by solving a mixed boundary value problem for the Dirac-Witten operator with a Callias potential.

Abstract:We prove positive mass theorem with angular momentum and charges for axially symmetric, simply connected, maximal, com-plete initial data sets with two ends, one designated asymptoti-cally flat and the other either (Kaluza-Klein) asymptotically flat or asymptotically cylindrical, for 4-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell the-ory and 5-dimensional minimal supergravity theory which metrics fail to be C-1 and second fundamental forms and electromagnetic fields fail to be C-0 across an axially symmetric hypersurface Sigma. Furthermore, we remove the completeness and simple connectivity assumptions in this result and prove it for manifold with boundary such that the mean curvature of the boundary is non-positive.

Abstract:We use planar coordinates as well as hyperbolic coordinates to separate the de Sitter spacetime into two parts. These two ways of cutting the de Sitter give rise to two different spatial infinities. For spacetimes which are asymptotic to either half of the de Sitter spacetime, we are able to provide definitions of the total energy, the total linear momentum, the total angular momentum, respectively. And we prove two positive mass theorems, corresponding to these two sorts of spatial infinities, for spacelike hypersurfaces whose mean curvatures are bounded by certain constant from above.

Abstract:Abstract We prove a positive mass theorem for spin initial data sets $(M,g,k)$ that contain an asymptotically flat end and a shield of dominant energy (a subset of $M$ on which the dominant energy scalar $\mu -|J|$ has a positive lower bound). In a similar vein, we show that for an asymptotically flat end $\mathcal{E}$ that violates the positive mass theorem (i.e., $\textrm{E} < |\textrm{P}|$), there exists a constant $R>0$, depending only on $\mathcal{E}$, such that any initial data set containing $\mathcal{E}$ must violate the hypotheses of Witten’s proof of the positive mass theorem in an $R$-neighborhood of $\mathcal{E}$. This implies the positive mass theorem for spin initial data sets with arbitrary ends, and we also prove a rigidity statement. Our proofs are based on a modification of Witten’s approach to the positive mass theorem involving an additional independent timelike direction in the spinor bundle.

Hawking-type singularity theorems for worldvolume energy inequalities

Abstract:The classical singularity theorems of R. Penrose and S. Hawking from the 1960s show that, given a pointwise energy condition (and some causality as well as initial assumptions), spacetimes cannot be geodesically complete. Despite their great success, the theorems leave room for physically relevant improvements, especially regarding the classical energy conditions as essentially any quantum field theory necessarily violates them. While singularity theorems with weakened energy conditions exist for worldline integral bounds, so called worldvolume bounds are in some cases more applicable than the worldline ones, such as the case of some massive free fields. In this paper we study integral Ricci curvature bounds based on worldvolume quantum strong energy inequalities. Under the additional assumption of a - potentially very negative - global timelike Ricci curvature bound, a Hawking type singularity theorem is proven. Finally, we apply the theorem to a cosmological scenario proving past geodesic incompleteness in cases where the worldline theorem was inconclusive.

The Bondi-Sachs formalism for the Einstein scalar field equations with the zero cosmological constant

Abstract:Inspired by interaction of gravitational waves and dark matters, we study the Bondi-Sachs formalism for Einstein massless scalar field with zero cosmological constant. We provide asymptotic expansions for the Bondi-Sachs metrics as well as the scalar fields and prove the peeling property. We also prove the positivity of the Bondi energy-momentum under condition $c=d=0$ at some retarded time $u_0$. This condition ensures that asymptotically null hypersurfaces near $u=u_0$ are asymptotically null initial data sets of order 2 and the positive energy theorem for null infinity can be applied.

Abstract:In this paper, the authors show that one cannot dream of the positivity of the Hayward energy in the general situation. They consider a scenario of a spherically symmetric constant density star matched to the Schwarzschild solution, representing momentarily static initial data. It is proved that any topological tori within the star, distorted or not, have strictly positive Hayward energy. Surprisingly we find analytic examples of ‘thin’ tori with negative Hayward energy in the outer neighborhood of the Schwarzschild horizon. These tori are swept out by rotating the standard round circles in the static coordinates but they are distorted in the isotropic coordinates. Numerical results also indicate that there exist horizontally dragged tori with strictly negative Hayward energy in the region between the boundary of the star and the Schwarzschild horizon.
Conformal-type Energy Estimates on Hyperboloids and the Wave-Klein-gordon Model of Self-Gravitating Massive Fields

Abstract:In this article we revisit the global existence result of the wave-Klein-Gordon model of the system of the self-gravitating massive field. Our new observation is that, by applying the conformal energy estimates on hyperboloids, we obtain mildly increasing energy estimate up to the top order for the Klein-Gordon component, which clarify the question on the hierarchy of the energy bounds of the KleinGordon component in our previous work. Furthermore, a uniform-in-time energy estimate is established for the wave component up to the top order, as well as a scattering result. These improvements indicate that the partial conformal symmetry of the Einstein-massive scalar system will play an important role in the global analysis.
