Abstract:Objective: An increasing number of studies suggest that sleep disordered breathing (SDB) may be associated with postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF), but these studies present discrepant results. Thus, this meta-analysis aimed to synthesize the data associating SDB with POAF in patients who underwent cardiac surgery. Methods: A literature search was performed in the Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, CENTRAL, Weipu, Wanfang Data, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases before August 2022. Data were extracted, and the strength of the relationship between SDB and the risk of POAF was evaluated using odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). All statistical analysis was carried out using the Stata 12.0 software. Results: A total of 24 studies with 660,685 subjects were included in current meta-analysis. SDB was significantly associated with the risk of POAF in the patients who underwent cardiac surgery (OR = 1.49; 95% CI, 1.30–1.70; p < .001). Next subgroup analysis revealed that such association may be increased in the group with medical equipment-measured SDB (OR = 2.27; 95% CI, 1.59–3.23; p < .001), prospective studies (OR = 2.17; 95% CI, 1.55–3.03; p < .001), patients without a previous history of atrial fibrillation (OR = 2.04; 95% CI, 1.47–2.82; p < .001), and patients who received a coronary artery bypass graft (OR = 2.10; 95% CI, 1.45–3.05; p < .001). No publication bias was identified. Conclusion: The results of meta-analysis support that SDB may be associated with an increased risk of POAF in patients who had undergone cardiac surgery, and these results should be confirmed in more rigorously designed studies. Patients with SDB who underwent cardiac surgery showed increased risk of POAF. The relationship between SDB and POAF should be explained with caution with the consideration of various covariate. The effect of pre-treatment of SDB on POAF should be examined in future.

Abstract:Background: Postoperative de novo atrial fibrillation (POAF) is one of the most frequently encountered complications following cardiac surgery. Despite the identification of several risk factors, the link between sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) and POAF has barely been examined. The objective of this prospective observational study was to determine whether severe SDB is associated with POAF in patients after elective coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery. Study design and methods: The incidence and preoperative predictors of in-hospital POAF were assessed in 272 patients undergoing CABG surgery at the University Medical Center Regensburg (Germany). In-hospital POAF was detected by continuous telemetry-ECG monitoring and 12-lead resting ECGs within the first seven postoperative days. POAF that occurred after hospital discharge within 60 days post CABG surgery was classified as post-hospital POAF and was ascertained by standardized phone interviews together with the patients' medical files, including routinely performed Holter-ECG monitoring at 60 days post CABG surgery. The night before surgery, portable SDB monitoring was used to assess the presence and type of severe SDB, defined by an apnea–hypopnea index ≥ 30/h. Results: The incidence of in-hospital POAF was significantly higher in patients with severe SDB compared to those without severe SDB (30% vs. 15%, p = 0.009). Patients with severe SDB suffered significantly more often from POAF at 60 days post CABG surgery compared to patients without severe SDB (14% vs. 5%, p = 0.042). Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that severe SDB (odds ratio, OR [95% confidence interval, CI]: 2.23 [1.08; 4.61], p = 0.030), age ≥ 65 years (2.17 [1.04; 4.53], p = 0.038), and diabetes mellitus (2.27 [1.15; 4.48], p = 0.018) were significantly associated with in-hospital POAF. After additional adjustment for heart failure, the association between sleep apnea and postoperative atrial fibrillation was attenuated (1.99 [0.92; 4.31], p = 0.081). Conclusions: Amongst established risk factors, severe SDB was significantly associated with in-hospital POAF in patients undergoing CABG surgery. Whether SDB contributes to POAF independently of heart failure and whether risk for POAF may be alleviated by proper treatment of SDB merits further investigation.

Abstract:A narrative review was performed, analyzing peer-reviewed articles from databases such as PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, and Web of Science to examine the mechanistic links between sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), and cardiac arrhythmias, emphasizing intermittent hypoxia, autonomic imbalance, and intrathoracic pressure swings as key pathways. Studies, including the DREAM and CESAAR trials, consistently demonstrate that SDB patients face elevated risks: more than doubling the likelihood of overall arrhythmias (OR 2.24; 95% CI 1.48–3.39), quadrupling the risk of AF (OR 4.02; 95% CI 1.03–15.74), and tripling the risk of non-sustained ventricular tachycardia (NSVT) with higher apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) values. Additionally, SDB doubles the risk of bradyarrhythmia, such as sinus pause, second and third-degree atrioventricular block, and intraventricular conduction delay (OR 2.50; 95% CI 1.58–3.95). According to meta-analytical findings, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is a pivotal intervention, significantly reducing AF recurrence by 42% and lowering VA incidence by 58%. Moreover, CPAP therapy diminishes sinus bradycardia and occurrences of sinus pause and may reduce the necessity for pacemaker implantation. Recognizing SDB as a modifiable risk factor for cardiac arrhythmias highlights the importance of early diagnosis and effective management, primarily through CPAP therapy, to improve cardiovascular outcomes.

Postoperative complications after elective coronary artery bypass grafting surgery in patients with sleep-disordered breathing

Abstract:Background: Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) may increase the risk of postoperative complications in patients after cardiac surgery. This study evaluated the length of hospital stay as well as postoperative cardiac, respiratory, and renal complications after elective coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in patients without SDB, with central sleep apnea (CSA), or with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Methods: The presence and type of SDB had been assessed with polygraphic recordings in 100 patients the night before elective CABG surgery. SDB was defined as an apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) of ≥ 15/h. Prolonged length of hospital stay (LOS) and postoperative hemodynamic instability due to any cause were retrospectively evaluated as primary endpoints and cardiac, respiratory, and renal complications as secondary endpoints. Results: 37% of patients had SDB, 14% CSA, and 23% OSA. LOS differed significantly between patients without SDB and those with CSA and OSA [median (25;75. percentile): 8.0 days (7.5;11.0) vs. 9.5 days (7.0;12.5) vs. 12.0 days (9.0;17.0), Kruskal-Wallis test between three groups: p = 0.023; OSA vs. no SDB: p = 0.005]. AHI was significantly associated with prolonged LOS [> 9 days; odds ratio (OR) (95% confidence interval): 1.047 (1.001;1.095), p = 0.044]. Prolonged need of vasopressors (≥ 48 h) was observed in 36% of patients without SDB, in 64% with CSA, and in 62% with OSA (p = 0.037). AHI was significantly associated with prolonged (≥ 48 h) need of vasopressors [OR (95% CI): 1.052 (1.002;1.104), p = 0.040], independent of any confounders. Conclusions: SDB, particularly OSA, is associated with prolonged LOS after CABG, independent of known confounders. Prolonged LOS in patients with SDB may be due to increased postoperative hemodynamic instability due to any cause.

Abstract:Background: Postoperative major pulmonary complications (MPCs) continue to be leading causes of increased morbidity and death after cardiac surgery. Although various risk factors have been identified, reports on the association between sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) and postoperative MPCs remain inconclusive. Research question: What is the incidence of the composite end point postoperative MPCs? What are predictors for postoperative MPCs in patients without SDB, with OSA, and with central sleep apnea (CSA) who undergo cardiac surgery? Study design and methods: In this subanalysis of the ongoing prospective observational study "Impact of Sleep-disordered breathing on Atrial Fibrillation and Perioperative complications in Patients undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass grafting Surgery (CONSIDER AF)," preoperative risk factors for postoperative MPCs were examined in 250 patients who underwent cardiac surgery. Postoperative MPCs (including respiratory failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome, pneumonia, or pulmonary embolism) were registered prospectively within the first seven postoperative days. Presence and type of SDB were assessed the night prior to surgery with the use of portable SDB-monitoring. Results: Patients with SDB experienced significantly more often postoperative MPCs than patients without SDB (24% vs 7%; P < .001). Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that CSA (OR, 4.68 [95% CI, 1.78-12.26]; P = .002), heart failure (OR, 2.65 [95% CI, 1.11-6.31]; P = .028), and a history of transient ischemic attack or stroke (OR, 2.73 [95% CI, 1.07-6.94]; P = .035) were associated significantly with postoperative MPCs. Compared with patients without MPCs, those with postoperative MPCs had a significantly longer hospital stay (median days, 9 [25th/75th percentile, 7/13] vs 19 [25th/75th percentile, 11/38]; P < .001). Interpretation: Among established risk factors for postoperative MPCs, CSA, heart failure, and history of transient ischemic attack or stroke were associated significantly with postoperative MPCs. Our findings contribute to the identification of patients who are at high-risk for postoperative MPCs. Clinical trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT02877745.

Abstract:Study objective: To understand the effect of obstructive sleep apnea on readmission rates and post-operative atrial fibrillation in the cardiac surgical population. Design: Retrospective cohort study. Setting: Administrative database consisting of 2007-2014 data from California, Florida, New York, Kentucky, and Maryland from the State Inpatient Databases, Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project. Patients: A total of 506,604 patients ≥18 years old who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting surgery (CABG) and/or valve surgery were included in the study. After excluding for death during the index hospitalization and missing data, 396,657 patients remained for 30-day readmission analysis. Interventions: None. Measurements: Primary outcomes were unadjusted rates and adjusted odds of 30-day readmission. Secondary outcomes included post-operative atrial fibrillation and readmission diagnoses. Bivariate associations were assessed between OSA status, covariates and potential confounders, and outcomes. Odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated. Statistical significance was assessed at p < 0.05. Main results: The overall 30-day readmission rate was 17.2%, with a rate of 19.6% vs. 17.1% in the OSA vs. non-OSA group (p < 0.001). Patients with OSA had higher odds of 30-day readmission (OR = 1.08, 95% CI 1.06-1.11) and higher odds of developing post-operative atrial fibrillation (OR = 1.04, 95% CI 1.01-1.08) compared to non-OSA patients. The most common reason for readmission was atrial fibrillation (38.6%), with OSA patients presenting with atrial fibrillation more frequently than their counterparts (41.7% vs. 38.4%, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Patients with OSA are at increased risk of 30-day readmission and post-operative atrial fibrillation following cardiac surgery compared to those without OSA. Although the importance of OSA is increasingly recognized, it remains a significant risk factor for post-operative readmissions and morbidity. Further research is needed to optimize perioperative management of patients with OSA, but these results highlight the importance of this disease on patient outcomes and healthcare costs.

Abstract:The indica rice cultivar Xiangzi 3150 (XZ3150) confers a high level of resistance to 95% of the isolates of Magnaporthe oryzae (the agent of rice blast disease) collected in Hunan Province, China. To identify the resistance (R) gene(s) controlling the high level of resistance in this cultivar, we developed 286 F(9) recombinant inbred lines (RILs) from a cross between XZ3150 and the highly susceptible cultivar CO39. Inoculation of the RILs and an F(2) population from a cross between the two cultivars with the avirulent isolate 193-1-1 in the growth chamber indicated the presence of two dominant R genes in XZ3150. A linkage map with 134 polymorphic simple sequence repeat and single feature polymorphism markers was constructed with the genotype data of the 286 RILs. Composite interval mapping (CIM) using the results of 193-1-1 inoculation showed that two major R genes, designated Pi47 and Pi48, were located between RM206 and RM224 on chromosome 11, and between RM5364 and RM7102 on chromosome 12, respectively. Interestingly, the CIM analysis of the four resistant components of the RILs to the field blast population revealed that Pi47 and Pi48 were also the major genetic factors responsible for the field resistance in XZ3150. The DNA markers linked to the new R genes identified in this study should be useful for further fine mapping, gene cloning, and marker-aided breeding of blast-resistant rice cultivars.

Abstract:Summary Sleep‐disordered breathing is common in patients with coronary artery disease undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting. Sleep‐disordered breathing is associated with increased perioperative morbidity, arrhythmias (e.g. atrial fibrillation) and mortality. This study investigated the impact of sleep‐disordered breathing on the postoperative course after coronary artery bypass grafting, including development of atrial fibrillation. This prospective single‐centre cohort study included adults undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting. All were screened for sleep‐disordered breathing (polygraphy) and atrial fibrillation (electrocardiogram) preoperatively; those with known sleep‐disordered breathing or atrial fibrillation were excluded. Endpoints included new‐onset atrial fibrillation, duration of mechanical ventilation, time in the intensive care unit, and postoperative infection. Regression analysis was performed to identify associations between sleep‐disordered breathing and these outcomes. A total of 508 participants were included (80% male, median age 68 years). The prevalence of any (apnea–hypopnea index ≥ 5 per hr), moderate (apnea–hypopnea index = 15–30 per hr) and severe (apnea–hypopnea index > 30 per hr) sleep‐disordered breathing was 52.9%, 9.3% and 10.2%, respectively. All‐cause 30‐day mortality was 0.98%. Abstract:Background Despite its high prevalence in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), the association between sleep disordered breathing (SDB) and in-hospital prognosis is not well determined. Purpose We aimed to study in-hospital prognosis depending on the presence of SDB in patient hospitalized for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods We prospectively enrolled a subset of patients hospitalized for AMI of the French Cohort of Myocardial Infarction Evaluation (FRENCHIE) registry included from January 2019 and December 2022 in the 16 AMI-Sleep-trained centers. Baseline and in-hospital information were collected through the FRENCHIE registry. A simplified polygraphy through ApneaLink Air+ was performed overnight during the initial hospitalization before discharge. Data were scored in centralized manner at a single center where trained physicians ascertained SDB severity based on Apnea-Hypopnea index (AHI). SDB screening was considered as positive for patients who have at least moderate SDB, defined by an AHI≥15/h. Results Among 1752 patients, 955 (54.5 [52.1;56.9] %) had at least moderate SDB. Compared with patients without SDB, SDB patients have major cardiac impairment including more 3-vessel CAD (26.8% vs 20.8%) and a lower admission left ventricular ejection fraction (52.2% vs 50.4%) associated with a higher use of non-invasive ventilation (3.8% vs 1.6% in non-SDB patients). SDB patients had also more in-hospital complications in particular more transfer to hospital intensive care (0.1% vs 0.9%) and an increased length of stay (4.8 vs 5.9 days). Conclusion More than half of the patients hospitalized for AMI had at least moderate SDB and presence of SDB was associated with more in-hospital morbidity. SDB screening should be considered to identify high risk sub-group of AMI patients.

Results Among 1752 patients, 955 (54.5 [52.1;56.9] %) had an AHI≥15/h. The prevalences of mild (AHI= 5-14.9), moderate (AHI=15-29.9) and severe (AHI≥30) SDB were 30.9%, 24.2% and 30.3% respectively. SDB characterization was technically possible in 712 patients (74.6%), and was found central in 72.2% of cases, obstructive in 12.9% and mixed in 15.4%. Male sex, age, BMI, diabetes, degree of severity of CAD, LVEF≤40% and treatment with Ticagrelor were independently associated with SDB. Conclusion More than half of the patients hospitalized for AMI had at least moderate SDB with a majority of them characterized as central. SDB diagnosis should be considered in this setting and particularly in very high cardiovascular risk patients with severe CAD.SDB determinants in AMI patients

Sleep-disordered breathing patterns in hospitalized patients with acute heart failure across the entire spectrum of ejection fraction

Abstract:Background: Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is prevalent in heart failure (HF). Yet, scarce data exist on sleep-patterns in acute HF and differences in specific subgroups. Our goal was to assess SDB prevalence in hospitalized patients with decompensated HF across the entire spectrum of left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF). Methods: Single-center retrospective study enrolling patients admitted for acute HF between 2013 and 2018. All patients were screened for SDB with an ApneaLink™ Plus device before discharge while euvolemic and receiving oral therapy. Those with a sleep study time < 3 h were excluded. HF with reduced, moderately reduced, and preserved LVEF (HFrEF, HFmrEF, and HFpEF) was defined by a LVEF < 40%, 40-49%, and ≥ 50%, respectively. SDB was defined by an apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) ≥ 5/h. Results: Overall, 221 patients were included (mean age 75 ± 11 years). Seventy-two (33%) had HFrEF, 26 (11%) HFmrEF, and 123 (56%) HFpEF. In total, 176 (80%) met the criteria for mild SDB, while 59% and 38% had an AHI ≥ 15/h or ≥ 30/h, respectively. SDB prevalence was high and similar between HFrEF, HFmrEF, and HFpEF. Yet, SDB was often more severe in HFrEF when compared to HFpEF. HFmrEF had intermediate characteristics, with an AHI closer to HFrEF. Conclusion: In a cohort of patients admitted for acute HF, SDB was highly prevalent in all subgroups, including HFmrEF. The pervasiveness and severity of SDB was particularly noted in HFrEF. These findings suggest that routine SDB screening may be warranted following acute HF.
Prevalence and Assessment of Sleep-Disordered Breathing in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Abstract:Background: In this study, we sought to estimate the prevalence of concomitant sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and to systematically evaluate how SDB is assessed in this population. Methods: We searched Medline, Embase and Cinahl databases through August 2020 for studies reporting on SDB in a minimum 100 patients with AF. For quantitative analysis, studies were required to have systematically assessed for SDB in consecutive AF patients. Pooled prevalence estimates were calculated with the use of the random effects model. Weighted mean differences and odds ratios were calculated when possible to assess the strength of association between baseline characteristics and SDB. Results: The search yielded 2758 records, of which 33 studies (n = 23,894 patients) met the inclusion criteria for qualitative synthesis and 13 studies (n = 2660 patients) met the meta-analysis criteria. The pooled SDB prevalence based on an SDB diagnosis cutoff of apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) ≥ 5/h was 78% (95% confidence interval [CI] 70%-86%; P < 0.001). For moderate-to-severe SDB (AHI ≥ 15/h), the pooled SDB prevalence was 40% (95% CI 32%-48%; P < 0.001). High degrees of heterogeneity were observed (I2 = 96% and 94%, respectively; P < 0.001). Sleep testing with the use of poly(somno)graphy or oximetry was the most common assessment tool used (in 22 studies, 66%) but inconsistent diagnostic thresholds were used. Conclusions: SDB is highly prevalent in patients with AF. Wide variation exists in the diagnostic tools and thresholds used to detect concomitant SDB in AF. Prospective systematic testing for SDB in unselected cohorts of AF patients may be required to define the true prevalence of SDB in this population.
Nocturnal Myocardial Ischemic Events and Sleep-Disordered Breathing in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease

Abstract:Objective To investigate the occurrence of nocturnal myocardial ischemia and its relationship with sleep-disordered breathing (apneas and oxygen desaturations) in patients with angina pectoris undergoing coronary angiography.Methods Eighty-two men and 14 women referred for consideration of coronary intervention were randomly selected. Observation by an overnight sleep monitor and Holter recording were performed to study sleep-disordered breathing (oxyhemoglobin desaturations≥4％ and apnea-hypopneas),heart rates, and ST-segment depressions (≥ 1mm, ≥1 min).Results Nocturnal ST-segment depressions occurred in 37 ％ of the patients. ST-segment depression within 2 min after an apnea-hypopnea or desaturation occurred in 17％ of the patients. This temporal association was seen in 21％ of the patients with nocturnal ST-segment depressions, more frequently in men (P＜0.05) and more frequently in those with severe disordered breathing (P＜0.05).Most of these ST-segment depressions were preceded by a series of breathing events: repeated apnea-hypopneas or desaturations or both in 73％ of the patients. Conclusions Episodes of nocturnal myocardial ischemia are common in patients with angina pectoris. A temporal relationship between sleep-disordered breathing and myocardial ischemia was present in some of our patients, and occurs more frequently in men and in those with severely disordered breathing. Sleep-Disordered Breathing Profiles in Patients with Cardiovascular Diseases: Kurume SDB-CVD Study

Abstract:Background: While evidence links sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) to various cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), comprehensive insights and detailed profiles of CVD patients with SDB remain scarce. This study aimed to examine the characteristics of CVD patients complicated by SDB. Methods: This retrospective study enrolled all consecutive patients who underwent screening tests for SDB during hospitalization at Kurume University Hospital from January 2014 to December 2019. To explore the relationship between SDB severity and clinical data, we classified SDB severity into four groups and assessed its prevalence and severity across different CVDs, categorized by sex and age. Results: A total of 5,765 patients were enrolled. Desaturation during sleep in SDB was significantly worse in terms of age, sex, daytime resting oxygen saturation (SpO2), systolic blood pressure (SBP), pulse pressure, body mass index (BMI), white blood cell count, hemoglobin A1c, serum creatinine, N-terminal Pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), cardiothoracic ratio on chest X-ray, and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) on echocardiography (all p-values < 0.001, except for SBP p=0.002, and NT-proBNP p=0.004). Daytime SpO2 and BMI strongly correlated across ages. Differences in renal function, diabetes control, and LVEF were notable between sex and ages. Analysis also showed the more prevalence and severity of SDB in coronary artery disease and heart failure, versus lower in pulmonary hypertension. Heatmaps of daytime SpO2 and BMI can effectively predict the severe SDB in patients with CVDs, suggesting the potential for efficient therapeutic interventions for SDB. Conclusion: Coronary artery disease and heart failure were associated with a higher prevalence and a greater risk of moderate to severe SDB, typically in older patients. Notably, low SpO2 during daytime and elevated BMI were indicative of SDB across all age categories for both sexes.

Abstract:The neuroprotective potential of halothane anesthesia was investigated following unilateral electrolytic lesions to the forelimb representation area of the sensorimotor cortex (FL-SMC). Previously, it was found that the FL-SMC lesion increases substantially in size when the intact forelimb is immobilized with a plaster of paris cast for the first 7 days postlesion, which forces extreme overuse of the impaired forelimb during a time when nonlethally damaged tissue is vulnerable to behavioral demand. Initially, the purpose of this study was to investigate whether intracisternal infusion of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF or FGF-2), a potent neurotrophic factor that has been shown to have neuroprotective and plasticity promoting properties in focal stroke and other injury models, could prevent this use-dependent exaggeration of injury. Although intracisternal bFGF (starting 24 h after surgery, twice per week) was not found to produce significant neuroprotective or behavioral effects, the brief exposure to halothane anesthesia (15-20 min) during bFGF or vehicle administration was found to prevent expansion of the lesion size, and to reduce delayed loss of neurons in the substantia nigra pars reticulata (SNr). The data have implications for investigations of the effects of neurotrophic factor in vivo, and other investigations requiring brief, intermittent halothane anesthesia.

Abstract:When a vacuum arc ignites, the cathode spots distribute uniformly on the cathode surface and emit the electron, ion and metallic vapor into the inter-electrode region. In addition, a vacuum arc distributed evenly at the cathode surface has a tendency to concentrate near the center of the anode by a self-magnetic field effect. In this paper, it presents the investigated results of three phenomena in detail. Firstly, the authors calculate a current density distribution in the inter-electrode region, and investigate a self-magnetic field and an external magnetic field effect. Secondly, the authors measure intensities of an infrared radiation and a temperature on the anode surface. As a result, the current density, infrared radiation and temperature are at high values near the center of anode surface. And the authors also found that the center of the anode surface is melted heavily

Abstract:Conclusion. Semicircular canal occlusion after completely removing cholesteatoma matrix is a safe and effective approach for treatment of labyrinthine fistula. Objective. To investigate the safety and efficacy of semicircular canal occlusion for surgical treatment of labyrinthine fistula caused by cholesteatoma. Patients and methods. Twenty-two patients with labyrinthine fistula who were treated surgically were enrolled in the study. All patients were treated by completely removing the cholesteatoma matrix followed by semicircular canal occlusion. Results. With a follow-up of at least 6 months, there was no recurrent cholesteatoma in any of the patients. Vertigo disappeared in all the patients. Most patients presented no hearing detriment and four of them demonstrated hearing improvement. No patient presented with surgery-related deafness postoperatively.
