Abstract:Aims: Primary myelofibrosis (PMF) is a myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) characterized by clonal proliferation of stem cells and myeloid cells. JAK2, CARL, and MPL mutations could be detected in most patients, but 15% of PMF patients could be absent of these three gene mutations. PMF has shorter median survival time and poorer prognosis when compared with closely related MPNs, polycythemia vera (PV) and essential thrombocythemia (ET). Allogenic hematopoietic stem cells (allo-HSCT) is the only curative therapy for PMF patients, however transplantation-related complications and deaths were observed in more than 50% patients. Hydroxyurea and Ruxolitinib are commonly used drugs to improve clinical symptoms of PMF patients, but lack of anti-tumor activities. These drugs could not reverse bone marrow fibrosis or induce cytogenetic remission. Basic research work of PMF is limited as to the lack of human PMF cell line. Here, we aimed to establish and characterize a patient-derived human PMF cell line, which would provide a useful tool for PMF research and screenings for novel drugs.
Cytogenetic Analysis of 1863 Chineses Patients with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

Abstract:Abstract 4888 Background: Cytogenetic analyses of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) have been performed previously in a large number of reports, but systematical research based on large sample sizes is seldom available. In order to further elucidate the cytogenetic nature of CML, we analyzed retrospectively the cytogenetic profiles of 1863 Ph/BCR-ABL-positive CML patients from a research center in China. Results: Of 1266 newly diagnosed CML patients, the median age was 41 years, which is younger than the median age of diagnosis in western populations. The incidence of additional chromosome abnormalities(ACAs) was 3.1% in newly-diagnosed chronic phase(CP), 9.1% in CP after therapy, 35.4% in accelerated phase(AP) and 52.9% in blast phase(BP), reflecting cytogenetic evolution with CML progression. 5.3% patients harbored a variant Ph translocation. A higher prevalence of ACAs was observed in variant Ph translocations than in classical t(9;22) in the disease progression, especially in BP(88.2% vs. 50%, p =0.002). Moreover, a hyperdiploid karyotype and trisomy 8 were closely correlated with myeloid blast crisis(BC) while a hypodiploid karyotype and monosomy 7 were associated with lymphoid-BC. Among subsets of myeloid-BC, compared with myeloid-BC with granulocytic differentiation or monocytic differentiation, myeloid-BC with minimal differentiation had higher ACAs rate (80% vs.46.8%, p =0.009 and 80% vs. 42.9%, p =0.006). Conclusion: CML tends to afflict younger population in China. In the disease progression, the incident of ACAs was higher in variant Ph translocations than in classical t(9;22). Among subsets of myeloid-BC, myeloid with minimal differentiation had distinct cytogenetic features. Disclosures: No relevant conflicts of interest to declare.
Unusual Findings Of Acute Myeloid Leukemia With Inv(3)(Q21q26.2) Or T(3;3)(Q21;Q26.2): A Multicenter Study

Abstract:IntroductionAML with inv(3)(q21.3q26.2) or t(3;3)(q21.3;q26.2) [inv(3)/t(3;3)] was very rare. Currently, most reports of AML-inv(3)/t(3;3) were from Western countries, and few reports were from Asian countries. Racial differences in patients with AML-inv(3)/t(3;3) are still unknown.MethodsBetween January 1996 and April 2018, a total of 37 AML cases with inv(3)/t(3;3) were studied retrospectively. They were collected from 2229 primary AML cases performed with conventional cytogenetic analysis (37/2229, 1.66%).ResultsHere, some differences were found by comparing our data with those from Western countries. In our series, AML with inv(3)(q21q26) had a lower incidence than that with t(3;3)(q21;q26) (11 vs 26 cases). Our patients seemed to be more younger (median, 43years) and have lower hemoglobin concentrations (median, 73g/L) and higher platelet count (median, 351x10(9)/L). A higher incidence of acute monoblastic and monocytic leukemia (45.9%) was observed in our patients. Immunophenotypic studies showed that CD38 (30.8%) was not so frequently expressed as that in the earlier reports. Mutations analysis showed a high frequency of NRAS mutations (45.0%), followed by SF3B1(15.0%), GATA2(15.0%), FLT3-ITD(10.0%), C-Kit/D816(5.0%), and CEBPA(5.0%), without mutation of NPM1(Exon12)or JAK2V617.ConclusionEthnic differences do exist between the Chinese and Western patients with AML-inv(3)/t(3;3), and more attention should be paid involving different ethnic populations and geographic regions.
Real‐world Data of Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia: A Chinese Single‐center Retrospective Study

Abstract:AbstractChronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) is a rare disease of elderly people characterized by the presence of sustained peripheral blood monocytosis, overlapping features of myeloproliferation, and myelodysplasia. We present a large retrospective study of 156 CMML patients in China. Mean age at diagnosis was 68 years old (range 23‐91). According to the CMML‐specific prognostic scoring system (CPSS), 10 patients (8.3%) were low risk, 27 patients (22.5%) were intermediate‐1 risk, 72 patients (60%) were intermediate‐2 risk, and 11 patients (9.2%) were high risk. A total of 90 patients (57.7%) received hypomethylating agents (HMAs) treatment, 19 patients (12.2%) received chemotherapy and 47 patients (30.1%) received the best supportive care. Seventeen patients (10.9%) underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo‐SCT) after HMAs treatment or chemotherapy. With a median follow‐up of 35.3 months, overall response rate (ORR) was 69.5% in the HMAs ± chemotherapy group, 79.5% in the HMAs monotherapy group, 60.0% in the HMAs + chemotherapy group, and 37.5% in the chemotherapy group. HMAs monotherapy group had prolonged OS compared with the chemotherapy group (23.57 months vs. 11.73 months; p = 0.035). Patients who achieved ORR had prolonged OS (25.83 months vs. 8.00 months; p < 0.001) and LFS (20.53 months vs. 6.80 months; p < 0.001) compared with those not achieved ORR in the HMA ± chemotherapy group. By univariate analysis, only higher hemoglobulin (≥80 g/L) and lower serum LDH levels (<300 U/L) predicted for better OS and LFS. By multivariate analysis, only Hb ≥ 80 g/L predicted for prolonged OS, Hb ≥ 80 g/L, and monocytes < 3 × 109/L predicted for prolonged LFS. In summary, our study highlights the benefit of HMAs therapy in CMML, but we still need to develop novel therapeutics to achieve better outcomes.
Bisimulation congruences for higher-order mobile embedded resources with local names

Abstract:We present a calculus of Higher-Order Mobile Embedded Resources (Homer), extending Thomsen’s Plain CHOCS, a higher-order calculus with local names, to allow for strongly mobile computing resources in nested locations. We provide labelled transition semantics and strong and weak late labelled transition bisimulation congruences, which is proven to be sound with respect to respectively strong and weak barbed bisimulation congruence. The heritage to Plain CHOCS gives a simple reduction and labelled transition semantics, and applicability of Howe’s method for proving contextual bisimulation to be a congruence. The main technical contribution is the successful application of Howe’s method to a calculus with nested, strongly mobile resources with local names and static scoping. We demonstrate the expressiveness of the calculus by giving several examples, in particular we provide a novel encoding of π-calculus name-passing.
Engineering and Characterization of Hu3A4: A Novel Humanized Antibody with Potential As a Therapeutic Agent Against Myeloid Lineage Leukemias

Abstract:Leukemia stem cells (LSCs) play a critical role in the initiation, recurrence, and resistance to treatment of leukemia. Eradicating LSCs is crucial for the complete elimination of the disease. CD45RA is identified as an important marker for LSC subsets in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), providing a strategic target for therapy. In this report, we introduce Hu3A4, an innovative humanized CD45RA antibody devised to target LSCs expressing this antigen. Hu3A4 retains the antigen-recognition ability of its parental antibody while removing sequences from the variable region that could elicit human anti-mouse immune reactions. The modified variable regions of the heavy and light chains were intricately fused with the constant regions of human IgG1 heavy and light chains, respectively, producing a humanized antibody that emulates the structure of natural IgG. Hu3A4 was produced through recombinant expression in Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells, which ensured stable gene integration. In vitro tests revealed that Hu3A4 could effectively target and lyse the cells. Further, in vivo studies highlighted Hu3A4's substantial anti-leukemic activity, significantly prolonging survival times in treated animal models compared to controls (P < 0.01). To summarize, Hu3A4 exhibits remarkable bioactivity and offers a promising therapeutic potential for the treatment of leukemia patients. Progressing Hu3A4 through additional preclinical and clinical studies is crucial to validate its efficacy as a therapeutic agent for leukemia.

Abstract:To establish and characterize a novel human myeloid leukemia cell line SH-2.Bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMMNC) isolated from a AML-M2 patient, who failed to obtain complete remission after chemotherapy and allogenic bone marrow transplantation were passed in a long term IMDM culture medium supplemented with 20% fetal calf serum. Stromal cells were retained and rh-IL-3 was added in the culture system. A new human myeloid leukemia cell line SH-2 was successfully established with a cytogenetic characteristics of a loss of Y chromosome (-Y), a derivative chromosome 16 resulting from unbalanced translocation between chromosome 16 and 17, monosome 17, trisomy 19 and p53 alteration. Various methods were employed to characterize SH-2 cell line.SH-2 cells has been maintained without cytokine and stromal cells for more than 3 years without EB virus and mycoplasma contamination. SH-2 cells had the basically same morphological, immunophenotypic and cytogenetic features as the patient's leukemia cells did, such as myeloid morphology, an immunophenotype of CD13+, CD33+, CD56+, CD16/56+ and a hypodiploid karyotype of 45, X, -Y, der(16)t(16;17)(q24;ql2), -17, +19, which were gradually decreased and replaced by the near-tetraploid cells with a karyotype of 73-102(80), XX, -Y, -Y, del (q131)x2, der(16)t(16;17)(q24;q12)x2, -17, -17, +19, +19. FISH and multiple FISH delineated all the abnormalities and revealed a loss of one p53 allele due to monosomy 17. DNA direct sequencing detected a point mutation of CAG to CAT at codon 576 of exon 5 in another p53 allele. RT-PCR showed that SH-2 cells expressed apoptosis-related genes (bcl-2, Fas, GST-pi and p2) rather than MDR-related genes. Short tandem repeat PCR provided powerful evidence for the derivation of SH-2 cell line from the patient's leukemia cells. SH-2 cells had certain colony formation and tumorigenic capacities in nude and SCID mice.SH-2 is a new myeloid leukemia cell line with a unique biology background, and will provide a useful tool for leukemia research.

Abstract:Mutated JAK3 has been considered a promising target for cancer therapy. Activating mutations of JAK3 are observed in 3.9%–10% of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients, but it is unclear whether AML cells are sensitive to JAK3 inhibitors, and no disease-related human AML cell model has been reported. We have identified U937 as the first human AML cell line expressing the JAK3 M511I activated mutation and confirmed that JAK3 inhibitors sensitively suppress the proliferation of U937 AML cells.

Abstract:JMJD3, a stress-inducible H3K27 demethylase, plays a critical regulatory role in the initiation and progression of malignant hematopoiesis. However, how this histone modifier affects in a cell type-dependent manner remains unclear. Here, we show that in contrast to its oncogenic effect in preleukemia state and lymphoid malignancies, JMJD3 relieves the differentiation-arrest of certain subtypes (such as M2 and M3) of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells. RNA sequencing and ChIP−PCR analyses revealed that JMJD3 exerts anti-AML effect by directly modulating H3K4 and H3K27 methylation levels to activate the expression of a number of key myelopoietic regulatory genes. Mechanistic exploration identified a physical and functional association of JMJD3 with C/EBPβ that presides the regulatory network of JMJD3. Thus, the leukemia regulatory role of JMJD3 varies in a disease phase- and lineage-dependent manner, and acts as a potential oncorepressor in certain subsets of AML largely by coupling to C/EBPβ-centered myelopoietic program.

Abstract:Fatty acids translocase (FAT) is a transporter that facilitate long-chain fatty acids uptake as well as lipid accretion. To investigate the potential role of FAT in different adipose tissues, we investigated the cDNA structure of porcine FAT (pFAT) and analysed the tissue distribution of pFAT mRNA. The FAT mRNA expression profiles in the pre-adipocytes isolated from subcutaneous and intramuscular fat were also compared during cell differentiation. The results showed that 2389 bp porcine cDNA (DQ192230) had 87% homology with human FAT, 83% with mouse FAT, 82% with rat FAT and 67.5% with chicken FAT. Alignment of deduced amino acids sequence showed 82.4% homology with human FAT, 83.3% with mouse FAT and 85% with rat FAT. RT-PCR analysis revealed that the pFAT mRNA had a wide-spread expression in most tissues except for the brain. The higher level transcript was detected in visceral fat tissue by real-time quantitative RT-PCR. Interestingly, the pFAT mRNA expression level was dramatically increased in the primary culture pre-adipocytes derived from intramuscular fat and this consistent with the cellular lipid accretion. However, a sustained lower-level transcript was also found in the adipocytes from subcutaneous fat. The present study indicated that pFAT mRNA had a differential expression in subcutaneous, visceral and intramuscular fat depots. The data presented here provide further proof that pFAT might be involved in the modulation of the temporal and spatial fat depots.

Abstract:Antibody-targeting therapy has drawn great interests to the hematologists and oncologists. 3A4, a novel antibody recognizing human CD45RA antigen, is a new target molecule for leukemias and holds a therapeutic potential for myeloid lineage leukemias. However, murine antibodies cannot be safely used in patients because of their strong immune reaction, humanization of the antibodies interested will be an important development step for therapeutic purpose. The aim of this study was to engineer the mouse 3A4 and to investigate the biological activity of its chimeric form. The humanized antibody composed of the 3A4 single-chain fragment of variable region and the human IgG1 Fc region, which was named human-mouse chimeric antibody 3A4 (Hm3A4). The function and biological activities of Hm3A4 were characterized using a variety of biological approaches. The results showed that Hm3A4 retained a strong binding activity to its antigen and could significantly block the binding of parental 3A4 to the antigen. In vitro experiments revealed that Hm3A4 could kill the target cells through complement-dependent cytotoxicity and antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity function. In vivo, Hm3A4 showed efficient antileukemia activity outperforming the nontreated mice. In conclusion, the chimeric antibody has an excellent biological activity after humanization and holds targeting therapeutic potential for myeloid leukemia, which warrants further development of this agent.
Establishment of a novel human acute myeloblastic leukemia cell line (YNH-1) with t(16;21), t(1;16) and 12q13 translocations

Abstract:The t(16;21)(p11;q22) translocation is a non-random chromosomal aberration observed in several types of human acute myeloblastic leukemia (AML), whereas the der(16)t(1;16) and chromosome rearrangements at 12q13 are frequently found in solid tumors. A novel cell line YNH-1 was established from peripheral blood cells of a 46-year-old male with AML (M1) carrying t(16;21) and t(1;16) translocations. YNH-1 has been maintained with a doubling time of 82 h for more than 20 months as a granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF), granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and interleukin-3 (IL-3) dependent line. Morphologically YNH-1 cells were free-floating immature myeloblasts with lobulated nuclei and vacuoles in the cytoplasm. They were positive for myeloperoxidase but negative for alpha-naphthyl butylate esterase and chloroacetate esterase stainings. In surface marker analysis YNH-1 cells were positive for CD13, CD33 and CD34. Chromosomal analysis showed 46, XY, der(16)t(16;21)(p11;q22)t(1;16) (q12;q13), der(21)t(16;21)(p11;q22), der (6)t(6;12)(q13;q13), der(12)t(6;12)(q21;q13). These translocations were confirmed by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) studies with the ERG-YAC clone and chromosome-specific DNA libraries. Both the FUS/ERG and ERG/FUS chimeric transcripts were identified by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis. Thus, YNH-1 could be a useful tool for elucidating the pathophysiology and molecular mechanism in AML with t(16;21),t(1;16) and 12q13 translocations.

Abstract:At present, all cell strains derived from acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) patients with the long arm of chromosome 11 aberration are accompanied with mixed lineage leukemia (MLL) gene rearrangement. In this study, we established a permanent ALL cell strain CHH-1 with the long arm of chromosome 11 aberration and without MLL rearrangement, hoping that it could be used for the research of ALL with such genetic abnormality. CHH-1 cell strain was certified through morphology, immunophenotype, genetics and immunoglobulin (Ig) gene rearrangement analysis. Cell characteristics including tumorigenic ability, semisolid colony forming ability, telomerase activity, autocrine and invasion were further detected. Cells were with an add(11)(q23) structural abnormality without MLL rearrangement, and were consistent with the genetic abnormality of the patient. In addition, these cells had features of tumor-forming ability, high colony forming capacity, unique cytokine autocrine mode, high telomerase activity, and high invasion ability. CHH-1 may prove to be a useful cell model for the research of human leukemia with genetic aberration in chromosome 11, and help explore the role of such genetic abnormality in the pathogenesis, progression and prognosis of ALL, and in developing new target drugs.
Detection of FLT3/ITD, JAK2(V617F) and NPM1 gene mutations in chronic myelomonocytic leukemia

Abstract:Patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) have a t (9;22)(q34;q11.2) or variant translocation that results in a BCR-ABL1 fusion gene. For many years, conventional karyotyping has been used as the standard diagnostic tool for t (9;22) (q34;q11.2). However, it has several limitations that may lead to failure for detecting BCR-ABL1 gene rearrangements in around 5% of all CML patients. Although reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) has evolved as a sensitive method for detecting BCR-ABL1 translocation, this method fail to detect certain BCR-ABL1 fusion transcript type, such as e13a3 (also known as b2a3), as a result of many commercially available and laboratory-developed primer sets. Fortunately, these two rare situations rarely appear at the same time, therefore, the combination of two methods rarely misdiagnosed the patients with CML. In this study, we report a patient with CML who tested both negative by RT-PCR and cytogenetic analysis at the time of diagnosis. She was diagnosed as atypical CML (aCML) and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation was suggested. Further fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) showed cryptic insertion of ABL into BCR gene on chromosome 22, and DNA sequencing with alternative primer sets demonstrated the presence of an e13a3 BCR-ABL1 fusion. She was diagnosed as CML and received imatinib 400 mg/day. A follow-up BCR-ABL1 FISH analysis demonstrated a markedly reduced BCR-ABL1 fusion rate of 0 after 6 months treatment, indicating a complete cytogenetic response.

Abstract:Leukemia stem cells (LSCs) are hypothesized to be capable of driving the development of leukemia, and are responsible for disease relapse. Antibody therapy targeting cell surface antigens has significantly improved the treatment outcomes of leukemia. Therefore, it is important to identify cell surface markers that are expressed on LSCs, and that are unexpressed or expressed at reduced levels on normal hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), in order to establish novel therapeutic targets. In the present study, the immunophenotypic characteristics of cluster of differentiation (CD)34(+)CD38(-)lineage (Lin)(-) stem cells were analyzed, and antigen expression levels were compared with the expression of other cell components, using multicolor flow cytometry, in 54 patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and 11 control patients with immune thrombocytopenia. The findings indicated that CD133 and human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DR were expressed on normal HSCs and on AML LSCs, with no significant difference (P>0.05). By contrast, CD33, CD123 and CD44 were highly expressed on AML LSCs, and demonstrated significant differences compared with their expression on normal HSCs (CD33, 81.7 vs. 18.3%; CD123, 75.8 vs. 19.1%; CD44, 97.7 vs. 84.4%). Among the aforementioned antigens, CD33 and CD123 were promising candidates for targeted therapy for the treatment of AML. This was particularly evident for CD123 in immature AML subtype cells, which may require additional investigation within a clinical trial setting. CD44, CD133 and HLA-DR may not be suitable for leukemia targeting due to their broad and high expression levels on normal HSCs and other tissues.
[Establishment of Murine Cell Line Transfected with Human CD14 Gene].

Abstract:This study was aimed to construct the CD14 eukaryotic expression vector, establish the transgeneic CD14 positive cell line in order to facilitate the establishment of a mouse model of antibody targeting therapy for human acute monocytic leukemia (AML-M(5)). Total RNA extracted from peripheral blood mononuclear cells was treated with RNAase-free DNAase, the human CD14 gene was cloned and sequenced through the RT-PCR and T-A clone techniques. Eukaryotic expressional vector pcDNA3.1(+)/CD14 was constructed by cleaving with double restriction endonuleases and ligating with T4 ligase. A murine melanoma cell line B16 was transfected with the pcDNA3.1(+)/CD14 recombinant with Superfect transfection reagent. Positive clones were selected by G418 and the expression of human CD14 on the transfectant was confirmed by flow cytometry (FCM). The results indicated that the sequence of the human CD14 cDNA cloned was exact to be same as the one from GenBank database. The recombinant pcDNA3.1(+)/CD14 was identified with double-enzyme cleaving. The expression of the human CD14 on the transfectant (B16/CD14) was confirmed by FCM. In conclusion, the murine cell line B16/CD14 fransfected with human CD14 gene has been established which can be used for the study of human AML-M(5) antibody targeting therapy with mouse model.

Abstract:A novel platform for sensor applications based on radio frequency (rf) identification technology, where passive tags are powered by the rf-field of a reader, is presented. The sophisticated energy harvesting system of the tag enables a blanking of the rf-field for a defined period, while supplying the tag electronics with a highly stable voltage and a power of 25 mW for 100 ms. During this time, span measurements can be performed without interferences of the rf-field. The presented tags work without batteries and are designed for impedance measurements on microbiological cell cultures under physiological relevant conditions as well as in harsh environments.
JAM3 Maintains Leukemia-Initiating Cell Self-Renewal Through LRP5/AKT/β-catenin/CCND1 Signaling

Abstract:Leukemia-initiating cells (LICs) are responsible for the initiation, development, and relapse of leukemia. The identification of novel therapeutic LIC targets is critical to curing leukemia. In this report, we reveal that junctional adhesion molecule 3 (JAM3) is highly enriched in both mouse and human LICs. Leukemogenesis is almost completely abrogated upon Jam3 deletion during serial transplantations in an MLL-AF9-induced murine acute myeloid leukemia model. In contrast, Jam3 deletion does not affect the functions of mouse hematopoietic stem cells. Moreover, knockdown of JAM3 leads to a dramatic decrease in the proliferation of both human leukemia cell lines and primary LICs. JAM3 directly associates with LRP5 to activate the downstream PDK1/AKT pathway, followed by the downregulation of GSK3β and activation of β-catenin/CCND1 signaling, to maintain the self-renewal ability and cell cycle entry of LICs. Thus, JAM3 may serve as a functional LIC marker and play an important role in the maintenance of LIC stemness through unexpected LRP5/PDK1/AKT/GSK3β/β-catenin/CCND1 signaling pathways but not via its canonical role in cell junctions and migration. JAM3 may be an ideal therapeutic target for the eradication of LICs without influencing normal hematopoiesis.

Abstract:Wasserman and Koepfer (1977) reported a case of character displacement for reproductive isolation between D. mojavensis and its sibling species, D. arizonensis. Drosophila mojauensis is found in Baja California, the Mojave Desert of southern California, and the desert region of Sonora, Sinaloa and southern Arizona. Drosophila arizonensis is found in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona and Mexico. The two species are sympatric in northern Sinaloa, Sonora and in parts of southern Arizona. Low numbers of D. arizonensis have been collected from the tip of Baja California. It is among populations from the sympatric areas of western Sonora that Wasserman and Koepfer found the strongest reproductive isolation between the two species. While D. arizonensis and D. mojauensis utilize different rotting cacti species as primary substrates, they are occasionally found together on or reared from the same host plant (W. B. Heed, pers, comm.). In spite of this occasional niche overlap, hybrids in nature are apparently an uncommon occurrence, suggesting that behavioral isolating mechanisms are very successful even when ecological barriers break down. Presumably D. mojavensis arrived in the area of sympatry after D. arizonensis (Wasserman and Koepfer, 1977; Zouros and D'Entremont, 1980) and the strong reproductive isolation between them is thought to have evolved as a result of selection acting on mating behavior of D. mojaoensis. Since Wasserman and Koepfer obtained their findings by examining females for evidence of insemination, one cannot make inferences from their experiments about differences in the courtship behavior of the sympatric and allopatric D. mojavensis.
