Abstract:In this paper, we investigate some existence results for double phase anisotropic variational problems involving critical growth. We first establish a Lions type concentration-compactness principle and its variant at infinity for the solution space, which are our independent interests. By employing these results, we obtain a nontrivial nonnegative solution to problems of generalized concave-convex type. We also obtain infinitely many solutions when the nonlinear term is symmetric. Our results are new even for the $p(\cdot)$-Laplace equations.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to find the existence of nontrivial non - negative solutions and infinitely many solutions in the two - phase anisotropic variational problem with critical growth. Specifically, the paper focuses on the Schrödinger - Kirchhoff - type two - phase anisotropic problem in the following form:
\[
-\left[M\left(\int_{\mathbb{R}^N} A(x, \nabla u) \, dx\right)\right] \text{div} \, a(x, \nabla u) + V(x) |u|^{\alpha(x)-2} u = \lambda f(x, u) + b(x) |u|^{t(x)-2} u \quad \text{in } \mathbb{R}^N,
\]
where \(a(x, \xi) = \nabla_\xi A(x, \xi)\) behaves like \(|\xi|^{q(x)-2} \xi\) when \(|\xi|\) is small and like \(|\xi|^{p(x)-2} \xi\) when \(|\xi|\) is large, and satisfies \(1 < p(\cdot) < q(\cdot) < N\); \(t \in C(\mathbb{R}^N)\) satisfies \(1 < \alpha(\cdot) \leq t(\cdot) \leq \frac{N p(\cdot)}{N - p(\cdot)} =: p^*(\cdot)\), and \(C = \{x \in \mathbb{R}^N : t(x) = p^*(x)\} \neq \emptyset\).
To study this problem, the author first establishes the Lions - type concentration - compactness principle and its variant at infinity. These results are crucial for solving the problem of lack of compactness in variational problems. By using these principles, the author proves that there exist nontrivial non - negative solutions for the generalized concave - convex - type problems, and when the nonlinear terms are symmetric, there exist infinitely many solutions.
The study of these problems is not only of great theoretical significance but also has a wide range of application backgrounds in practical applications, such as in the fields of nonlinear elasticity theory, plasticity theory and plasma physics.
