Abstract:We consider the variant of the Banach-Mazur distance $\delta_{BM}^{\rm cen} (C, D)$ of two convex bodies $C, D$ of $E^d$ with the additional requirement that the centroids of them coincide. We prove that $\delta_{BM}^{\rm cen} (C, D) \leq \frac{69}{17}$ for every $C, D$ of $E^2$.

Abstract:In this paper, we resolve the planar dual Minkowski problem, proposed by Huang et al. (2016) [31] for all positive indices without any symmetry assumption. More precisely, given any q>0, and function f on S1, bounded by two positive constants, we show that there exists a convex body Ω in the plane, containing the origin in its interior, whose dual curvature measure C˜q(Ω,⋅) has density f. In particular, if f is smooth, then ∂Ω is also smooth.
On certain extremal Banach-Mazur distances in small dimensions

Abstract:We study the maximal possible Banach-Mazur distance for certain pairs of symmetric convex bodies. A classical consequence of the John Ellipsoid Theorem is that the Banach-Mazur distance of a symmetric convex body $K \subseteq \mathbb{R}^n$ to the $n$-dimensional Euclidean ball is not greater than $\sqrt{n}$. Equality holds in every dimension $n$ for the unit balls of $\ell_1^n$ and $\ell_{\infty}^n$, that is, for cross-polytopes and parallelotopes in dimension $n$. While it is known that in dimension $n \geq 4$, there are more convex bodies (not affinely equivalent to either of the previous two) with the distance $\sqrt{n}$ to the ball, and that for $n=2$ the parallelogram is unique, the characterization of the equality case for dimension $n=3$ seems to have never been published. We prove that the three-dimensional cross-polytopes and parallelotopes are the only symmetric convex bodies in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with the distance $\sqrt{3}$ to the Euclidean ball. Moreover, in the planar case we establish the stability of the uniqueness of the parallelogram with the best possible (linear) order of the estimate. We also consider the maximal possible Banach-Mazur distance between planar $1$-symmetric convex bodies. In this case, we prove that the maximal possible distance is $\sqrt{2}$ and characterize the equality case, which again involves a parallelogram.

Abstract:We show that the Banach-Mazur distance between the parallelogram and the affine-regular hexagon is $\frac{3}{2}$ and we conclude that the diameter of the family of centrally-symmetric planar convex bodies is just $\frac{3}{2}$. A proof of this fact does not seem to be published earlier. Asplund announced this without a proof in his paper proving that the Banach-Mazur distance of any planar centrally-symmetric bodies is at most $\frac{3}{2}$. Analogously, we deal with the Banach-Mazur distances between the parallelogram and the remaining affine-regular even-gons.

Abstract:We establish some results on the Banach-Mazur distance in small dimensions. Specifically, we determine the Banach-Mazur distance between the cube and its dual (the cross-polytope) in $\mathbb{R}^3$ and $\mathbb{R}^4$. In dimension three this distance is equal to $\frac{9}{5}$, and in dimension four, it is equal to 2. These findings confirm Xue's conjectures, which were based on numerical data. Additionally, in dimension two, we use the asymmetry constant to provide a geometric construction of a family of convex bodies that are equidistant to all symmetric convex bodies.

Abstract:The well-studied vector balancing constant $\beta(U, V)$ of a pair of convex bodies $(U,V)$, is lower bounded by a lattice counterpart, $\alpha(U,V)$. In [BS97], Banaszczyk and Szarek proved that $\alpha(B_2^n, V)\leq c$ when $V$ has Gaussian measure at least $\frac{1}{2}$, and conjectured that, for centrally symmetric $V$, $\beta(B_2^n, V)$ is always bounded by a function of the Gaussian measure of $V$, independent of $n$. We resolve this conjecture in the affirmative. Moreover, we show that the analogous result holds for $\alpha(B_2^n, V)$ even without the central symmetry assumption.

Abstract:Let $K$ be an $n$-dimensional symmetric convex body with $n \ge 4$ and let $K\dual$ be its polar body. We present an elementary proof of the fact that $$(\Vol K)(\Vol K\dual)\ge \frac{b_n^2}{(\log_2 n)^n},$$ where $b_n$ is the volume of the Euclidean ball of radius 1. The inequality is asymptotically weaker than the estimate of Bourgain and Milman, which replaces the $\log_2 n$ by a constant. However, there is no known elementary proof of the Bourgain-Milman theorem.

A Comprehensive Definition of the Geometric Mean of Convex Bodies Based on Relations Between Their $p$-Means

Abstract:In light of the log-Brunn-Minkowski conjecture, various attempts have been made to define the geometric mean of convex bodies. Many of these constructions are fairly complex and/or fail to satisfy some natural properties one would expect of such a mean. We remedy this by providing a new geometric mean that is both technically simple and inherits all the natural properties expected. To improve our understanding of potential geometric mean definitions, we first study general $p$-means of convex bodies, with the usual definition extended to two series ranging over all $p$ in the extended reals. We characterize their equality cases and obtain (in almost all instances tight) inequalities that quantify how well these means approximate each other. As a corollary, we establish that every Minkowski centered body is equidistant from all its $p$-symmetrizations with respect to the Banach-Mazur distance. Finally, we show that our geometric mean satisfies all the properties considered in recent literature and extend this list with some properties regarding symmetrization and asymmetry.

Abstract:The radial mean bodies of parameter $p>-1$ of a convex body $K \subseteq \mathbb R^n$ are radial sets introduced in \cite{GZ98} by Gardner and Zhang. They are known to be convex for $p\geq 0$. We prove that if $K \subseteq \mathbb R^2$ is a convex body, then its radial mean body of parameter $p$ is convex for every $p \in (-1,0)$.

Abstract:We study isomorphic properties of two generalizations of intersection bodies, the class of k-intersection bodies and the class of generalized k-intersection bodies. We also show that the Banach-Mazur distance of the k-intersection body of a convex body, when it exists and it is convex, with the Euclidean ball, is bounded by a constant depending only on k, generalizing a well-known result of Hensley and Borell. We conclude by giving some volumetric estimates for k-intersection bodies.

Abstract:In this paper, we provide a rigorous computer-assisted proof (CAP) of the conjecture that there exists a unique convex central configuration for any four fixed positive masses in a given order belonging to a closed domain in the mass space. The proof employs the Krawczyk operator and the implicit function theorem. Notably, we demonstrate that the implicit function theorem can be combined with interval analysis, enabling us to estimate the size of the region where the implicit function exists and extend our findings from one mass point to its surrounding neighborhood.

Reducing the Large Set Threshold for the Basu-Oertel Conjecture

Abstract:In 1960, Grünbaum proved that for any convex body $C\subset\mathbb{R}^d$ and every halfspace $H$ containing the centroid of $C$, one has that the volume of $H\cap C$ is at least a $\frac{1}{e}$-fraction of the volume of $C$. Recently, in 2017, Basu and Oertel conjectured that a similar result holds for mixed-integer convex sets. Concretely, they proposed that for any convex body $C\subset \mathbb{R}^{n+d}$, there should exist a point $\mathbf{x} \in S=C\cap(\mathbb{Z}^{n}\times\mathbb{R}^d)$ such that for every halfspace $H$ containing $\mathbf{x}$, one has that \[ \mathcal{H}_d(H\cap S) \geq \frac{1}{2^n}\frac{1}{e}\mathcal{H}_d(S), \] where $\mathcal{H}^d$ denotes the $d$-dimensional Hausdorff measure. While the conjecture remains open, Basu and Oertel proved that the above inequality holds true for sufficiently large sets, in terms of a measure known as the \emph{lattice width} of a set. In this work, by following a geometric approach, we improve this result by substantially reducing the threshold at which a set can be considered large. We reduce this threshold from an exponential to a polynomial dependency on the dimension, therefore significantly enlarging the family of mixed-integer convex sets over which the Basu-Oertel conjecture holds true.

Abstract:In the present paper a direct proof for the interior estimates for mean curvature of convex surfaces in R-3 is given. Meanwhile, when the Gaussian curvature of such a C-2 - convex surface is degenerate on the boundary at degree m where m is some integer, a global lower bound away from zero for mean curvature is also obtained. Therefore, global smooth isometric embedding for smooth positive disks in R-3 can be constructed by means of the techniques in Ref. 12.

Abstract:For every hyperplane $H$ supporting a convex body $C$ in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^d$ we define the width of $C$ determined by $H$ as the distance between $H$ and a most distant ultraparallel hyperplane supporting $C$. We prove that if $\width_H (C) = \Delta (C)$ and if there exists a unique most distant point $j \in C$ from $H$, then the projection of $j$ onto $H$ belongs to $H \cap C$. We verify that the diameter of $C$ equals to the maximum width of $C$. We define bodies of constant width in $\mathbb{H}^d$ in the standard way as bodies whose all widths are equal. We show that every body of constant width is strictly convex. The minimum width of $C$ over all supporting $H$ is called the thickness $\Delta (C)$ of $C$. A convex body $R \subset \mathbb{H}^d$ is said to be reduced if $\Delta (Z) < \Delta (R)$ for every convex body $Z$ properly contained in $R$. We show that regular tetrahedra in $\mathbb{H}^3$ are not reduced. Similarly as in the Euclidean and spherical spaces, we introduce complete bodies and bodies of constant diameter in $\mathbb{H}^d$. We show that every body of constant width $\delta$ is a body of constant diameter $\delta$ and a complete body of diameter $\delta$. Moreover, the two last conditions are equivalent.

Abstract:For a hyperplane $H$ supporting a convex body $C$ in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^d$ we define the width of $C$ determined by $H$ as the distance between $H$ and a most distant ultraparallel hyperplane supporting $C$. The thickness (i.e., the minimum width) of $C$ is denoted by $\Delta(C)$. A convex body $R \subset \mathbb{H}^d$ is called reduced if for every body $Z \subsetneq R$ we have $\Delta(Z) < \Delta(R)$. We show that for any extreme point $e$ of a reduced body $R \subset \mathbb{H}^d$ there exists a supporting hyperplane $H$ of $R$ which passes through $e$ or its equidistant surface supporting $R$ passes through $e$. Bodies of constant width in $\mathbb{H}^d$ are defined as bodies whose all widths are equal. We prove that every complete body in $\mathbb{H}^d$ is a body of constant width.

Abstract:We study a version of the Busemann-Petty problem for $\log$-concave measures with an additional assumption on the dilates of convex, symmetric bodies. One of our main tools is an analog of the classical large deviation principle applied to $\log$-concave measures, depending on the norm of a convex body. We hope this will be of independent interest.

Abstract:We establish geometric upper and lower estimates for the Carathéodory and Kobayashi-Eisenman volume elements on the class of non-degenerate convex domains, as well as on the more general class of non-degenerate $\mathbb{C}$-convex domains. As a consequence, we obtain explicit universal lower bounds for the quotient invariant both on non-degenerate convex and $\mathbb{C}$-convex domains. Here the bounds we derive, for the above mentioned classes in $\mathbb{C}^{n}$, only depend on the dimension $n$ for a fixed $n\geq 2$. Finally, it is shown that the Bergman kernel is comparable with these volume elements up to small/large constants depending only on $n$.
