Abstract:In the combinatorial theory of continued fractions, the Foata--Zeilberger bijection and its variants have been extensively used to derive various continued fractions enumerating several (sometimes infinitely many) simultaneous statistics on permutations (combinatorial model for factorials) and D-permutations (combinatorial model for Genocchi and median Genocchi numbers). A Laguerre digraph is a digraph in which each vertex has in- and out-degrees $0$ or $1$. In this paper, we interpret the Foata--Zeilberger bijection in terms of Laguerre digraphs, which enables us to count cycles in permutations. Using this interpretation, we obtain Jacobi-type continued fractions for multivariate polynomials enumerating permutations, and also Thron-type and Stieltjes-type continued fractions for multivariate polynomials enumerating D-permutations, in both cases including the counting of cycles. This enables us to prove some conjectured continued fractions due to Sokal and Zeng (2022 Advances in Applied Mathematics) in the case of permutations, and Randrianarivony and Zeng (1996 Electronic Journal of Combinatorics) and Deb and Sokal (2024 Advances in Applied Mathematics) in the case of D-permutations.

Abstract:We introduce a family of Dirichlet series associated to real quadratic number fields that generalize the ordinary Fibonacci zeta function $\sum F(n)^{-s}$, where $F(n)$ denotes the $n$th Fibonacci number. We then give three different methods of meromorphic continuation to $\mathbb{C}$. Two are purely analytic and classical, while the third uses shifted convolutions and modular forms.

Abstract:Quadratic irrationals posses a periodic continued fraction expansion. Much less is known about cubic irrationals. We do not even know if the partial quotients are bounded, even though extensive computations suggest they might follow Kuzmin's probability law. Results are given for sequences of partial quotients of positive irrational numbers $\xi$ and $m \over \xi$ with $m$ a natural number. A big partial quotient in one sequence finds a connection in the other.

Abstract:Partial fraction methods play an important role in the study of multiple zeta values. One class of such fractions is related to the integral representations of MZVs. We show that this class of fractions has a natural shuffle algebra structure. This finding conceptualizes the connections among the various methods of stuffle, shuffle and partial fractions in the study of MZVs. This approach also gives an explicit product formula for the fractions.

Abstract:Lustig gave an infinite product formula for the zeta function of a commutative two-dimensional regular local ring with finite residue field. We extend this to the noncommutative setting with a method based on filtration by an invertible ideal. Our main formula may be viewed as a two-dimensional analogue of Hey's formula. In fact, upon revisiting Solomon's proof of Hey's formula, we find that our main two-dimensional zeta functions depend only on Artin-Wedderburn data for the top. This applies to zeta functions of local models for terminal orders on arithmetic surfaces, and we even suggest an analogy between our main formula and the Gottsche-Larsen-Lunts formula for the generating function of Hilbert schemes of a smooth surface. Our method gives us a more general and complicated formula than our main formula. It does, however, simplify to a general principle about the extent to which the zeta function of a module is determined by the module modulo an invertible ideal. The general formula also gives us a weird identity involving q-binomial coefficients.

Abstract: Dirichlet's $L$-functions are natural extensions of the Riemann zeta function. In this paper we first give a brief survey of Ap\'ery-like series for some special values of the zeta function and certain $L$-functions. Then, we establish two theorems on transformations of certain kinds of congruences. Motivated by the results and based on our computation, we pose 48 new conjectural series (most of which involve harmonic numbers) for such special values and related constants. Abstract:For any formal Laurent series x=∑n=v∞cnz−n with coefficients cn lying in some given finite field, let x=[a0(x);a1(x),a2(x),…] be its continued fraction expansion. It is known that, with respect to the Haar measure, almost surely, the sum of degrees of partial quotients dega1(x)+⋯+degan(x) grows linearly. In this note, we quantify the exceptional sets of points with faster growth orders than linear ones by their Hausdorff dimension, which covers an earlier result by J. Wu.

Abstract:We introduce a $q$-analog of the higher continued fractions introduced by the last three authors in a previous work (together with Gregg Musiker), which are simultaneously a generalization of the $q$-rational numbers of Morier-Genoud and Ovsienko. They are defined as ratios of generating functions for $P$-partitions on certain posets. We give matrix formulas for computing them, which generalize previous results in the $q=1$ case. We also show that certain properties enjoyed by the $q$-rationals are also satisfied by our higher versions.

Abstract:We explain in detail how to accelerate continued fractions (for constants as well as for functions) using the method used by R.~Apéry in his proof of the irrationality of $\zeta(3)$. We show in particular that this can be applied to a large number of continued fractions which can be found in the literature, thus providing a large number of new continued fractions. As examples, we give a new continued fraction for $\log(2)$ and for $\zeta(3)$, as well as a simple proof of one due to Ramanujan.

Abstract:In this work, we study a continued fractions theory for the topological completion of the field of Puiseux series. As usual, we prove that any element in the completion can be developed as a unique continued fractions, whose coefficients are polynomials in roots of the variable, and that this approximation is the best ''rational'' Diophantine approximation of such element. Then, we interpret the preceding result in terms of the action of a suitable arithmetic subgroup of the special linear group on the Berkovich space defined over the said completion. We also explore the connections between points of type IV of the Berkovich space in terms of some ''non-convergent'' or ''undefined'' continued fractions, in a sense that we make precise in the text.
