Abstract:In this paper we study the homogenization of the Dirichlet problem for the Stokes equations in a perforated domain with multiple microstructures. First, under the assumption that the interface between subdomains is a union of Lipschitz surfaces, we show that the effective velocity and pressure are governed by a Darcy law, where the permeability matrix is piecewise constant. The key step is to prove that the effective pressure is continuous across the interface, using Tartar's method of test functions. Secondly, we establish the sharp error estimates for the convergence of the velocity and pressure, assuming the interface satisfies certain smoothness and geometric conditions. This is achieved by constructing two correctors. One of them is used to correct the discontinuity of the two-scale approximation on the interface, while the other is used to correct the discrepancy between boundary values of the solution and its approximation.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the homogenization of the Dirichlet problem of the Stokes equation in porous media with multiple micro - structures. Specifically, the author studies the effective behavior of fluid flow when the shapes of small pores in the medium are different and distributed in different sub - domains. The main concerns include: 1. **Control of effective velocity and pressure**: It is proved that in porous media, the effective velocity and pressure are controlled by Darcy's law, where the permeability matrix is piecewise - constant in different sub - domains. 2. **Continuity of effective pressure**: By Tartar's test function method, the continuity of the effective pressure at the sub - domain interface is proved. 3. **Estimation of convergence rate**: The rate estimates of the velocity and pressure converging to their homogenized limits are established. These estimates assume that the interface satisfies certain smoothness and geometric conditions and are achieved by constructing two correctors. ### Specific problem description The paper studies the Dirichlet problem of the Stokes equation in the porous medium \(\Omega_\varepsilon\): \[ \begin{cases} -\varepsilon^2 \mu \Delta u^\varepsilon+\nabla p^\varepsilon = f & \text{in } \Omega_\varepsilon,\\ \text{div}(u^\varepsilon) = 0 & \text{in } \Omega_\varepsilon,\\ u^\varepsilon = 0 & \text{on } \partial \Omega_\varepsilon, \end{cases} \] where \(0 < \varepsilon< 1\) and \(\mu> 0\) are constants, \(\Omega\) is a bounded Lipschitz domain, and \(\Omega_\varepsilon\) is a porous medium formed by periodically removing small pores \(\varepsilon(Y_\ell^s + z)\) in each sub - domain \(\Omega_\ell\). ### Main contributions 1. **Generalization of Darcy's law**: For the case of \(L\geq2\), that is, when the porous medium is divided into multiple sub - domains and there are small pores of different shapes in each sub - domain, the author proves that the effective velocity and pressure are still controlled by Darcy's law, but the permeability matrix is piecewise - constant in different sub - domains. 2. **Strict estimation of convergence rate**: Under the assumption that the sub - domains satisfy certain smoothness and geometric conditions, the author gives accurate estimates of the velocity and pressure converging to their homogenized limits. This is achieved by constructing two correctors, one of which is used to correct the discontinuity of the two - scale approximation on the interface, and the other is used to correct the difference between the boundary value of the solution and its approximate value. ### Key steps - **Continuity of effective pressure**: By Tartar's test function method, the continuity of the effective pressure at the sub - domain interface is proved. - **Estimation of convergence rate**: By constructing two correctors to correct the discontinuity of velocity and pressure and the difference in boundary values respectively, accurate estimates of the convergence rate are obtained. ### Conclusion The main conclusion of the paper is that in porous media with multiple micro - structures, when the small parameter \(\varepsilon\) approaches zero, the solution of the Dirichlet problem of the Stokes equation can be effectively described by Darcy's law. This provides an important theoretical basis for understanding and modeling fluid flow in complex porous media.
