Abstract:It has been a long-standing open problem to construct a general framework for relating the spectra of dual theories to each other. Here, we solve this problem for the case of one-dimensional quantum lattice models with symmetry-twisted boundary conditions. In ref. [PRX Quantum 4, 020357], dualities are defined between (categorically) symmetric models that only differ in a choice of module category. Using matrix product operators, we construct from the data of module functors explicit symmetry operators preserving boundary conditions as well as intertwiners mapping topological sectors of dual models onto one another. We illustrate our construction with a family of examples that are in the duality class of the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ Heisenberg XXZ model. One model has symmetry operators forming the fusion category $\mathsf{Rep}(\mathcal S_3)$ of representations of the group $\mathcal S_3$. We find that the mapping between its topological sectors and those of the XXZ model is associated with the non-trivial braided auto-equivalence of the Drinfel'd center of $\mathsf{Rep}(\mathcal S_3)$.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### What problem does this paper attempt to solve? This paper aims to solve the problem of constructing the spectral relations in the dual - theory of one - dimensional quantum lattice models, especially for models with symmetric - twisted boundary conditions. For a long time, how to establish a general framework to correlate the spectral properties between dual theories has been an unsolved problem. This paper solves this problem in the following aspects: 1. **Define Duality**: Based on the reference [PRX Quantum 4, 020357], the article defines the duality between (categorical) symmetric models, which only differ in the choice of modular categories. 2. **Construct Explicit Symmetric Operators and Inter - Mappers**: Using matrix product operators (MPO), the author constructs explicit symmetric operators from the data of modular functors. These operators preserve the boundary conditions and construct inter - mappers that map the topological sectors of dual models to each other. 3. **Handle Sector Transformations under Closed - Boundary Conditions**: In particular, this paper explores in detail the sector transformation problem under closed - boundary conditions (including periodic and symmetric - twisted boundary conditions). The author shows how to map the odd - charge sectors of the model to the even - charge sectors through specific dual mappings and explains the impact of these mappings on the symmetry of the model. 4. **Application Examples**: The article is illustrated through a series of examples, including the spin - 1/2 Heisenberg XXZ model and its dual model. The symmetric operators of one of the models form the \( \text{Rep}(S_3) \) fusion category, that is, the representation of the \( S_3 \) group. The author finds that the mapping of topological sectors between the XXZ model and this model is related to the non - trivial braid automorphism of the Drinfel’d center of \( \text{Rep}(S_3) \). ### Specific Problems and Solutions - **Problem**: How to establish spectral relations between dual theories? - **Solution**: By introducing the concepts of modular categories and modular functors, the article proposes a systematic method to construct dual models and uses MPO to explicitly write out symmetric operators and inter - mappers, thereby achieving the mapping of spectral relations. - **Problem**: How to handle sector transformations under symmetric - twisted boundary conditions? - **Solution**: The article analyzes in detail the sector structure under symmetric - twisted boundary conditions and shows how to adjust the dual mapping to handle the conversion between different sectors. For example, for the Kramers - Wannier duality, the article shows how to locally change the dual mapping to map the odd - charge sectors of the original model to the even - charge sectors. - **Problem**: How to understand the physical realization of duality in specific models? - **Solution**: The article shows the physical realization of duality through specific examples (such as the spin - 1/2 Heisenberg XXZ model) and explains how duality affects the topological sectors and symmetry of the model. ### Summary This paper provides a systematic method to construct dual models and study their spectral relations by introducing modular categories and matrix product operators, especially in the case of symmetric - twisted boundary conditions. This method not only solves the long - standing problem of constructing spectral relations but also provides a new perspective for understanding the physical realization of duality in specific models.
