Abstract:We prove two properties of the modules and quandles discussed in this series. First, the fundamental multivariate Alexander quandle $Q_A(L)$ is isomorphic to the natural image of the fundamental quandle in the metabelian quotient $G(L)/G(L)''$ of the link group. Second, the medial quandle of a classical 2-component link $L$ is determined by the reduced Alexander invariant of $L$.

Abstract:We construct a virtual quandle for links in lens spaces L(p, 1). This invariant has two valuable advantages over an ordinary fundamental quandle for links in lens spaces: the virtual quandle is an essential invariant and the presentation of the virtual quandle can be easily written from the band diagram of a link.

Abstract:I investigated the capability of medial quandle, quandle whose operation satisfying that $(a_1*b_1)*(a_2*b_2)=(a_1*a_2)*(b_1*b_2)$, to detect causality in (2+1)-dimensional globally hyperbolic spacetime by determining if they can distinguished the connected sum of two Hopf links from an infinite series of relevant three-component links constructed by Allen and Swenberg in 2020, who suggested that any link invariant must be able to distinguish those links for them to detect causality in the given setting. I show that these quandles fail to do so as long as $a\sim b\Leftrightarrow a*b=a$ defines an equivalence relation. The Alexander quandles is an example that this result can apply to. Inspired by this result, I also derived a generalized theorem about the coloring of medial quandles on a specific type of tangles, which help to determine whether this quandles can distinguish between a wider range of knots and links or not.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. The axioms of a quandle imply that the columns of its Cayley table are permutations. This paper studies quandles with exactly one non-trivially permuted column. Their automorphism groups, quandle polynomials, (symmetric) cohomology groups, and [math] quandles are studied. The quiver and cocycle invariant of links using these quandles are shown to relate to linking number.

Abstract:The fundamental quandle is a complete invariant for unoriented tame knots \cite{JO, Ma} and non-split links \cite{FR}. The proof involves proving a relationship between the components of the fundamental quandle and the cosets of the peripheral subgroup(s) in the fundamental group of the knot or link. We extend these relationships to spatial graphs, and to $N$-quandles of links and spatial graphs. As an application, we are able to give a complete list of links with finite $N$-quandles, proving a conjecture from \cite{MS}, and a partial list of spatial graphs with finite $N$-quandles.

Abstract:To better understand the fundamental quandle of a knot or link, it can be useful to look at finite quotients of the quandle. One such quotient is the n -quandle (or, when n=2 , the involutory quandle). Hoste and Shanahan [J. Hoste and P. D. Shanahan, Links with finite n -quandles, Algebraic Geom. Topol. 17 (2017) 2807–2823.] gave a complete list of the links which have finite n -quandles; it remained to give explicit descriptions of these quandles. This has been done for several cases in [A. Crans, J. Hoste, B. Mellor and P. D. Shanahan, Finite n -qundles of torus and two-bridge links, J. Knot Theory Ramifications 28 (2019) 1950028; J. Hoste and P. D. Shanahan, Involutory quandles of (2, 2, r )-Montesinos links, J. Knot Theory Ramifications 26 (2017)]; in this work, we continue this project and explicitly describe the Cayley graphs for the finite involutory quandles of two-bridge links with an axis.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to provide a new characterization of isomorphism classes of generalized Alexander quandles in terms of the underlying groups and their automorphisms. This extends the previous result [4, Theorem 1.4]. Additionally, we compute the number of generalized Alexander quandles up to quandle isomorphism arising from groups up to order 127 and their group automorphisms.

Abstract:In this paper, the module-algebra structures of U-q(sl(m + 1)) = H(e(i), f(i), k(i)(+/- 1))(1 <= i <= m)., on the coordinate algebra of quantum vector spaces are studied. We denote the coordinate algebra of quantum n-dimensional vector space by A(q)(n). As our main result, first, we give a complete classification of module-algebra structures of U-p(sl(m + 1)) on A(q)(3) when k(i) is an element of Aut L(A(q)(3)) as actions on A(q)(3) for i = 1,...,m and m >= 2 and with the same method, on A(q)(2), all module-algebra structures of U-q(sl(m + 1)) are characterized. Lastly, the module-algebra structures of U-q(sl(m + 1)) on A(q)(n) are obtained for any n >= 4.

Abstract:We use the newly developed technique of inverse quantum hamiltonian reduction to investigate the representation theory of the simple affine vertex algebra $\mathsf{A}_{2}(\mathsf{u},2)$ associated to $\mathfrak{sl}_{3}$ at level $\mathsf{k} = -3+\frac{\mathsf{u}}{2}$, for $\mathsf{u}\ge3$ odd. Starting from the irreducible modules of the corresponding simple Bershadsky-Polyakov vertex operator algebras, we show that inverse reduction constructs all irreducible lower-bounded weight $\mathsf{A}_{2}(\mathsf{u},2)$-modules. This proceeds by first constructing a complete set of coherent families of fully relaxed highest-weight $\mathsf{A}_{2}(\mathsf{u},2)$-modules and then noting that the reducible members of these families degenerate to give all remaining irreducibles. Using this fully relaxed construction and the degenerations, we deduce modular S-transforms for certain natural generalised characters of these irreducibles and their spectral flows. With this modular data in hand, we verify that the (conjectural) standard Verlinde formula predicts Grothendieck fusion rules with nonnegative-integer multiplicities.

Abstract:We analyse the structure of equivalence classes of symmetric quivers whose generating series are equal. We consider such classes constructed using the basic operation of unlinking, which increases a size of a quiver. The existence and features of such classes do not depend on a particular quiver but follow from the properties of unlinking. We show that such classes include sets of quivers assembled into permutohedra, and all quivers in a given class are determined by one quiver of the largest size, which we call a universal quiver. These findings generalise the previous ones for permutohedra graphs for knots. We illustrate our results with generic examples, as well as specialisations related to the knots-quivers correspondence.

A diagrammatic computation of abelian link invariants

Abstract:We show how the multivariable signature and Alexander polynomial of a colored link can be computed from a single symmetric matrix naturally defined from a colored link diagram. In the case of a single variable, it coincides with the matrix introduced by Kashaev in [arXiv:1801.04632], which was recently proven to compute the Levine-Tristram signature and the Alexander polynomial of oriented links [arXiv:2311.01923, arXiv:2310.16729]. As a corollary, we obtain a multivariable extension of Kauffman's determinantal model of the Alexander polynomial, recovering a result of Zibrowius [arXiv:1601.04915v1].

Abstract:We characterize the first Alexander Z[Z]-modules of ribbon surface-links in the 4-sphere fixing the number of components and the total genus, and then the first Alexander Z[Z]-modules of surface-links in the 4-sphere fixing the number of components. Using the result of ribbon torus-links, we also characterize the first Alexander Z[Z]-modules of virtual links fixing the number of components. For a general surface-link, an estimate of the total genus is given in terms of the first Alexander Z[Z]-module. We show a graded structure on the first Alexander Z[Z]-modules of all surface-links and then a graded structure on the first Alexander Z[Z]-modules of classical links, surface-links and higher-dimensional manifold-links.

On the Alexander polynomial of special alternating links

Abstract:The Alexander polynomial (1928) is the first polynomial invariant of links devised to help distinguish links up to isotopy. In recent work of the authors, Fox's conjecture (1962) -- stating that the absolute values of the coefficients of the Alexander polynomial for any alternating link are unimodal -- was settled for special alternating links. The present paper is a study of the special combinatorial and discrete geometric properties that Alexander polynomials of special alternating links possess along with a generalization to all Eulerian graphs, introduced by Murasugi and Stoimenow (2003). We prove that the Murasugi and Stoimenow generalized Alexander polynomials can be expressed in terms of volumes of root polytopes of unimodular matrices, building on the beautiful works of Li and Postnikov (2013) and Tóthmérész (2022). We conjecture a generalization of Fox's conjecture to the Eulerian graph setting. We also bijectively relate two longstanding combinatorial models for the Alexander polynomials of special alternating links: Crowell's state model (1959) and Kauffman's state model (1982, 2006).

Linkage principle for small quantum groups

Abstract:We consider small quantum groups with root systems of Cartan, super and modular type, among others. These are constructed as Drinfeld doubles of finite-dimensional Nichols algebras of diagonal type. We prove a linkage principle for them by adapting techniques from the work of Andersen, Jantzen and Soergel in the context of small quantum groups at roots of unity. Consequently we characterize the blocks of the category of modules. We also find a notion of (a)typicality similar to the one in the representation theory of Lie superalgebras. The typical simple modules turn out to be the simple and projective Verma modules. Moreover, we deduce a character formula for 1-atypical simple modules.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of mc-biquandles, algebraic structures which have possibly distinct biquandle operations at single-component and multi-component crossings. These structures provide computable homset invariants for classical and virtual links. We categorify these homsets to obtain mc-biquandle coloring quivers and define several new link invariants via decategorification from these invariant quivers.

Characterization and Further Applications of the Bar-Natan Zh-Construction

Abstract:Bar-Natan's Zh-construction associates to each $n$ component virtual link diagram $L$ an $(n+1)$ component virtual link diagram $Zh(L)$. If $L_0,L_1$ are equivalent virtual link diagrams, then $Zh(L_0),Zh(L_1)$ are equivalent as semi-welded links. The importance of the $Zh$-construction is that it unifies several classical knot invariants with virtual knot invariants. For example, the generalized Alexander polynomial of a virtual link diagram $L$ is identical to the usual multi-variable Alexander polynomial of $Zh(L)$. From this it follows that the generalized Alexander polynomial is a slice obstruction: it vanishes on any knot concordant to an almost classical knot. Our main result is a characterization theorem for the $Zh$-construction in terms of almost classical links. Several consequences of this characterization are explored. First, we give a purely geometric description of the $Zh$-construction. Secondly, the $Zh$-construction is used to obtain a simple derivation of the Dye-Kauffman-Miyazawa polynomial. Lastly, we show that every quandle coloring invariant and quandle 2-cocycle coloring invariant can be extended to a new invariant using the $Zh$-construction.
