Abstract:For Grassmannians, Lusztig's notion of total positivity coincides with positivity of the Plucker coordinates. This coincidence underpins the rich interaction between matroid theory, tropical geometry, and the theory of total positivity. Bloch and Karp furthermore characterized the (type A) partial flag varieties for which the two notions of positivity similarly coincide. We characterize the symplectic (type C) and odd-orthogonal (type B) partial flag varieties for which Lusztig's total positivity coincides with Plucker positivity.

Abstract:We study the nonnegative part \bar{G_{>0}} of the De Concini-Procesi compactification of a reductive algebraic group G, as defined by Lusztig. Using positivity properties of the canonical basis and parametrization of flag varieties, we will give an explicit description of \bar{G_{>0}}. This answers the question of Lusztig in [L4]. We will also prove that \bar{G_{>0}} has a cell decomposition which was conjectured by Lusztig.

Abstract:In this thesis, we consider geometric properties of vector bundles arising from algebraic and Hermitian geometry. On vector bundles in algebraic geometry, such as ample, nef and globally generated vector bundles, we are able to construct positive Hermitian metrics in different senses(e.g. Griffiths-positive, Nakano-positive and dual-Nakano-positive) by L2-method and deduce many new vanishing theorems for them by analytic method instead of the Le Potier-Leray spectral sequence method. On Hermitian manifolds, we find that the second Ricci curvature tensors of various metric connections are closely related to the geometry of Hermitian manifolds. We can derive various vanishing theorems for Hermitian manifolds and also for complex vector bundles over Hermitian manifolds by their second Ricci curvature tensors. We also introduce a natural geometric flow on Hermitian manifolds by using the second Ricci curvature tensor.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of $\Theta$-positivity in real simple Lie groups. This notion at the same time generalizes Lusztig's total positivity in split real Lie groups and invariant orders in Lie groups of Hermitian type. We show that there are four families of Lie groups which admit $\Theta$-positive structures, and investigate basic properties of $\Theta$-positivity.

Abstract:We study the totally nonnegative part of the complete flag variety and of its tropicalization. We show that Lusztig's notion of nonnegative complete flag variety coincides with the flags in the complete flag variety which have nonnegative Pl{ü}cker coordinates. This mirrors the characterization of the totally nonnegative Grassmannian as those points in the Grassmannian whose Pl{ü}cker coordinates are all nonnegative. We then study the tropical complete flag variety and complete flag Dressian, which are two tropical versions of the complete flag variety, capturing realizable and abstract flags of tropical linear spaces, respectively. In general, the complete flag Dressian properly contains the tropical complete flag variety. However, we show that the totally nonnegative parts of these spaces coincide.

Abstract:We show that, inside the Shilov boundary of any given Hermitian symmetric space of tube type, there is, up to isomorphism, only one proper domain whose action by its automorphism group is cocompact. This gives a classification of all closed proper manifolds locally modelled on such Shilov boundaries, and provides a positive answer, in the case of flag manifolds admitting a $\Theta$-positive structure, to a rigidity question of Limbeek and Zimmer.

Abstract:The author was recently able to provide a cohomological interpretation of Tate's Riemann-Roch formula for number fields using some new harmonic analysis objects, ghost-spaces. When trying to investigate these objects in general, we realized the importance of functions and measures on locally compact abelian groups that are both positive and positive-definite at the same time. It looks like this class of functions and measures was not systematically studied before. The goal of this paper is to partially fill in this gap. We answer some of the natural questions involving these functions and measures, especially those that satisfy some extra integrability conditions. We also study some operations and constructions involving these functions and measures. There are several very interesting open questions, that we are only able to point out at this moment. In particular, the structure of the cone of such functions is not clear even when the group is just $\R.$

Abstract:For the Drinfeld-Jimbo quantum enveloping algebra $U_q(\frak{sl}_{n+1})$, we show that the span of Lusztig's positive root vectors, with respect to Littlemann's nice reduced decompositions of the longest element of the Weyl group, form quantum tangent spaces for the full quantum flag manifold $\mathcal{O}_q(\mathrm{F}_{n+1})$. The associated differential calculi are direct $q$-deformations of the anti-holomorphic Dolbeault complex of the classical full flag manifold $\mathrm{F}_{n+1}$. As an application we establish a quantum Borel-Weil theorem for the $A_n$-series full quantum flag manifold, giving a noncommutative differential geometric realisation of all the finite-dimensional type-$1$ irreducible representations of $U_q(\frak{sl}_{n+1})$. Restricting this differential calculus to the quantum Grassmannians is shown to reproduce the celebrated Heckenberger-Kolb anti-holomorphic Dolbeault complex. Lusztig's positive root vectors for non-nice decompositions of the longest element of the Weyl group are examined for low orders, and are exhibited to either not give tangents spaces, or to produce differential calculi of non-classical dimension.

Our proof of this fact that does not require the matrices to be continuous at time zero. We also provide a formulation of this theorem in the terminology of positive operator semigroups on sequence spaces.

Abstract:A normalizable complex distribution on a manifold can be regarded as a complex weight, thereby allowing the definition of expectation values of observables defined on . Straightforward importance sampling, , is not available for non-positive P, leading to the well-known sign (or phase) problem. A positive representation of is any normalizable positive distribution on the complexified manifold such that for a dense set of observables, where stands for the analytically continued function on . Such representations allow carrying out Monte Carlo calculations to obtain estimates of through the sampling . In the present work we tackle the problem of constructing positive representations for complex weights defined on manifolds of compact Lie groups, both abelian and non-abelian, as required in lattice gauge field theories. Since the variance of the estimates increase for broad representations, special attention is put on the question of localization of the support of the representations.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a semisimple, simply connected, algebraic group over an algebraically closed field $k$ with Lie algebra $\frak g$. We study the spaces of parahoric subalgebras of a given type containing a fixed nil-elliptic element of $\frak g\otimes k((\pi))$, i.e. fixed point varieties on affine flag manifolds. We define a natural class of $k^*$-actions on affine flag manifolds, generalizing actions introduced by Lusztig and Smelt. We formulate a condition on a pair $(N,f)$ consisting of $N\in\frak{g}\otimes k((\pi))$ and a $k^*$-action $f$ of the specified type which guarantees that $f$ induces an action on the variety of parahoric subalgebras containing $N$. For the special linear and symplectic groups, we characterize all regular semisimple and nil-elliptic conjugacy classes containing a representative whose fixed point variety admits such an action. We then use these actions to find simple formulas for the Euler characteristics of those varieties for which the $k^*$-fixed points are finite. We also obtain a combinatorial description of the Euler characteristics of the spaces of parabolic subalgebras containing a given element of certain nilpotent conjugacy classes of $\frak g$.

Abstract:We prove that pseudoholomorphic curves intersect complex 2-cycles positively in almost complex 4-manifolds. This makes possible a general and conceptually simple proof that an almost complex 4-manifold with many curves admits a taming symplectic structure, as envisioned by Gromov. Furthermore, we prove that the positivity of intersections between pseudoholomorphic curves is stable, in a geometric sense.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth projective manifold with $\dim _{\mathbb{C}}X=n$ . We show that if a line bundle $L$ is $(n-1)$ -ample, then it is $(n-1)$ -positive. This is a partial converse to the Andreotti–Grauert theorem. As an application, we show that a projective manifold $X$ is uniruled if and only if there exists a Hermitian metric $\unicode[STIX]{x1D714}$ on $X$ such that its Ricci curvature $\text{Ric}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D714})$ has at least one positive eigenvalue everywhere.

Abstract:A bstract Recent years have seen a surprising connection between the physics of scattering amplitudes and a class of mathematical objects — the positive Grassmannian, positive loop Grassmannians, tree and loop Amplituhedra — which have been loosely referred to as “positive geometries”. The connection between the geometry and physics is provided by a unique differential form canonically determined by the property of having logarithmic singularities (only) on all the boundaries of the space, with residues on each boundary given by the canonical form on that boundary. The structures seen in the physical setting of the Amplituhedron are both rigid and rich enough to motivate an investigation of the notions of “positive geometries” and their associated “canonical forms” as objects of study in their own right, in a more general mathematical setting. In this paper we take the first steps in this direction. We begin by giving a precise definition of positive geometries and canonical forms, and introduce two general methods for finding forms for more complicated positive geometries from simpler ones — via “triangulation” on the one hand, and “push-forward” maps between geometries on the other. We present numerous examples of positive geometries in projective spaces, Grassmannians, and toric, cluster and flag varieties, both for the simplest “simplex-like” geometries and the richer “polytope-like” ones. We also illustrate a number of strategies for computing canonical forms for large classes of positive geometries, ranging from a direct determination exploiting knowledge of zeros and poles, to the use of the general triangulation and push-forward methods, to the representation of the form as volume integrals over dual geometries and contour integrals over auxiliary spaces. These methods yield interesting representations for the canonical forms of wide classes of positive geometries, ranging from the simplest Amplituhedra to new expressions for the volume of arbitrary convex polytopes.
