Abstract:We derive a formula for the QE constant of a complete multipartite graph and determine the complete multipartite graphs of non-QE class, namely, those which do not admit quadratic embeddings in a Euclidean space. Moreover, the primary non-QE graphs are specified among the complete multipartite graphs.

Abstract:The quadratic embedding constant (QE constant) of a graph is a new characteristic value of a graph defined through the distance matrix. We derive formulae for the QE constants of the join of two regular graphs, double graphs and certain lexicographic product graphs. Examples include complete bipartite graphs, wheel graphs, friendship graphs, completely split graph, and some graphs associated to strongly regular graphs.

A Classification of Graphs through Quadratic Embedding Constants and Clique Graph Insights

Abstract:The quadratic embedding constant (QEC) of a graph $G$ is a new numeric invariant, which is defined in terms of the distance matrix and is denoted by $\mathrm{QEC}(G)$. By observing graph structure of the maximal cliques (clique graph), we show that a graph $G$ with $\mathrm{QEC}(G)<-1/2$ admits a ``cactus-like'' structure. We derive a formula for the quadratic embedding constant of a graph consisting of two maximal cliques. As an application we discuss characterization of graphs along the increasing sequence of $\mathrm{QEC}(P_d)$, where $P_d$ is the path on $d$ vertices. In particular, we determine graphs $G$ satisfying $\mathrm{QEC}(G)<\mathrm{QEC}(P_5)$.

Abstract:We compute the quadratic embedding constant for complete bipartite graphs with disjoint edges removed. Moreover, we study the quadratic embedding property for theta graphs, i.e., graphs consisting of three paths with common initial points and common endpoints. As a result, we provide an infinite family of primary graphs which are not quadratically embeddable.

Abstract:It is known that Paley graphs of square order have the strict-EKR property, that is, all maximum cliques are canonical cliques. Peisert-type graphs are natural generalizations of Paley graphs and some of them also have the strict-EKR property. Given a prime power q≥3 , we study Peisert-type graphs of order q2 without the strict-EKR property and with the minimum number of edges and we call such graphs extremal. We determine number of edges in extremal graphs for each value of q . If q is a square or a cube, we show the uniqueness of the extremal graph and classify all maximum cliques explicitly. Moreover, when q is a square, we prove that there is no Hilton-Milner type result for the extremal graph, and show the tightness of the weight-distribution bound for both non-principal eigenvalues of this graph.

Graphs with Bipartite Complement that Admit Two Distinct Eigenvalues

Abstract:The parameter $q(G)$ of an $n$-vertex graph $G$ is the minimum number of distinct eigenvalues over the family of symmetric matrices described by $G$. We show that all $G$ with $e(\overline{G}) = |E(\overline{G})| \leq \lfloor n/2 \rfloor -1$ have $q(G)=2$. We conjecture that any $G$ with $e(\overline{G}) \leq n-3$ satisfies $q(G) = 2$. We show that this conjecture is true if $\overline{G}$ is bipartite and in other sporadic cases. Furthermore, we characterize $G$ with $\overline{G}$ bipartite and $e(\overline{G}) = n-2$ for which $q(G) > 2$.

Complete Genuine Multipartite Entanglement Monotone

Abstract:A complete characterization and quantification of entanglement, particularly the multipartite entanglement, remains an unfinished long-term goal in quantum information theory. As long as the multipartite system is concerned, the relation between the entanglement contained in different partitions or different subsystems need to take into account. The complete multipartite entanglement measure and the complete monogamy relation is a framework that just deals with such a issue. In this paper, we put forward conditions to justify whether the multipartite entanglement monotone (MEM) and genuine multipartite entanglement monotone (GMEM) are complete, completely monogamous, and tightly complete monogamous according to the feature of the reduced function. Especially, with the assumption that the maximal reduced function is nonincreasing on average under LOCC, we proposed a class of complete MEMs and a class of complete GMEMs via the maximal reduced function for the first time. By comparison, it is shown that, for the tripartite case, this class of GMEMs is better than the one defined from the minimal bipartite entanglement in literature under the framework of complete MEM and complete monogamy relation. In addition, the relation between monogamy, complete monogamy, and the tightly complete monogamy are revealed in light of different kinds of MEMs and GMEMs.

Abstract:Let Γ be an antipodal distance-regular graph of diameter 4, with eigenvalues $$\theta_0>\theta_1>\theta_2>\theta_3>\theta_4$$ . Then its Krein parameter $$q_{11}^4$$ vanishes precisely when Γ is tight in the sense of Jurišić, Koolen and Terwilliger, and furthermore, precisely when Γ is locally strongly regular with nontrivial eigenvalues $$p:=\theta_2$$ and $$-q:=\theta_3$$ . When this is the case, the intersection parameters of Γ can be parametrized by p , q and the size of the antipodal classes r of Γ.Let Γ be an antipodal tight graph of diameter 4, denoted by AT4 (p, q, r) , and let the μ-graph be a graph that is induced by the common neighbours of two vertices at distance 2. Then we show that all the μ-graphs of Γ are complete multipartite if and only if Γ is AT4( sq , q , q ) for some natural number s . As a consequence, we derive new existence conditions for graphs of the AT4 family whose μ-graphs are not complete multipartite. Another interesting application of our results is also that we were able to show that the μ-graphs of a distance-regular graph with the same intersection array as the Patterson graph are the complete bipartite graph K 4,4 .

Abstract:Recently, Milanič and Trotignon introduced the class of equistarable graphs as graphs without isolated vertices admitting positive weights on the edges such that a subset of edges is of total weight $1$ if and only if it forms a maximal star. Based on equistarable graphs, counterexamples to three conjectures on equistable graphs were constructed, in particular to Orlin's conjecture, which states that every equistable graph is a general partition graph. In this paper we characterize equistarable bipartite graphs. We show that a bipartite graph is equistarable if and only if every $2$-matching of the graph extends to a matching covering all vertices of degree at least $2$. As a consequence of this result, we obtain that Orlin's conjecture holds within the class of complements of line graphs of bipartite graphs. We also connect equistarable graphs to the triangle condition, a combinatorial condition known to be necessary (but in general not sufficient) for equistability. We show that the triangle condition implies general partitionability for complements of line graphs of forests, and construct an infinite family of triangle non-equistable graphs within the class of complements of line graphs of bipartite graphs.

Quantum Entanglement & Purity Testing: A Graph Zeta Function Perspective

Abstract:We assign an arbitrary density matrix to a weighted graph and associate to it a graph zeta function that is both a generalization of the Ihara zeta function and a special case of the edge zeta function. We show that a recently developed bipartite pure state separability algorithm based on the symmetric group is equivalent to the condition that the coefficients in the exponential expansion of this zeta function are unity. Moreover, there is a one-to-one correspondence between the nonzero eigenvalues of a density matrix and the singularities of its zeta function. Several examples are given to illustrate these findings.

Kempe Classes and Almost Bipartite Graphs

Abstract:Let $G$ be a graph and $k$ be a positive integer, and let $Kc(G, k)$ denote the number of Kempe equivalence classes for the $k$-colorings of $G$. In 2006, Mohar noted that $Kc(G, k) = 1$ if $G$ is bipartite. As a generalization, we show that $Kc(G, k) = 1$ if $G$ is formed from a bipartite graph by adding any number of edges less than $\binom{\lceil k/2\rceil}2+\binom{\lfloor k/2\rfloor}2$. We show that our result is tight (up to lower order terms) by constructing, for each $k \geq 8$, a graph $G$ formed from a bipartite graph by adding $(k^2+8k-45+1)/4$ edges such that $Kc(G, k) \geq 2$. This refutes a recent conjecture of Higashitani--Matsumoto.

Quantum direct products and the Künneth class

Abstract:We introduce a Künneth class in the quantum equivariant setting inspired by the pioneer work by J. Chabert, H. Oyono-Oyono and S. Echterhoff, which allows to relate the quantum Baum-Connes property with the Künneth formula by generalising some key results of Chabert-Oyono-Oyono-Echterhoff to discrete quantum groups. Finally, we make the observation that the C$^*$-algebra defining a compact quantum group with dual satisfying the strong quantum Baum-Connes property belongs to the Künneth class. This allows to obtain some K-theory computations for quantum direct products based on earlier work by Voigt and Vergnioux-Voigt.

LPS-Type Ramanujan Graphs from Definite Quaternion Algebras over $\mathbb Q$ of Class Number One

Abstract:In this paper we construct explicit LPS-type Ramanujan graphs from each definite quaternion algebra over $\mathbb Q$ of class number 1, extending the constructions of Lubotzky, Phillips, Sarnak, and later Chiu, and answering in the affirmative a question raised by Jo and Yamasaki. We do this by showing that for each definite quaternion algebra $\mathcal H$ over $\mathbb Q$ of class number 1 with maximal order $\mathcal O$, if $G = \mathcal H^\times/Z(\mathcal H^\times)$ and $p$ is prime such that $G(\mathbb Q_p) \cong PGL_2(\mathbb Q_p)$, then there exists a congruence $p$-arithmetic subgroup of $G$ which acts simply transitively on the Bruhat-Tits tree of $G(\mathbb Q_p)$.

A new approach for constructing graph being determined by their generalized $Q$-spectrum

Abstract:Given a graph $G$, we have the adjacency matrix $A(G)$ and degree diagonal matrix $D(G)$. The $Q$-spectrum is the all eigenvalues of $Q$-matrix $Q(G)=A(G)+D(G)$. A class of graphs is determined by their generalized $Q$-spectrum (DGQS for short) if any two graphs among the class have the same $Q$-spectrum and so do their complement imply that they are isomorphic. In [11], the authors provides a new way to construct $DGQS$ graphs by considering the rooted product graphs $G\circ P_{k}$ and they prove when $k=2,3$, $G\circ P_{k}$ is $DGQS$ for a special graph $G$. In this paper, we will prove that under the same conditions for $G$, the conclusion is true for any positive integer $k$.

Abstract:We derive a general formula for the quadratic embedding constant of a graph join $\bar{K}_m+G$, where $\bar{K}_m$ is the empty graph on $m\ge1$ vertices and $G$ is an arbitrary graph. Applying our formula to a fan graph $K_1+P_n$, where $K_1=\bar{K}_1$ is the singleton graph and $P_n$ is the path on $n\ge1$ vertices, we show that $\mathrm{QEC}(K_1+P_n)=-\tilde{\alpha}_n-2$, where $\tilde{\alpha}_n$ is the minimal zero of a new polynomial $\Phi_n(x)$ related to Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind. Moreover, for an even $n$ we have $\tilde{\alpha}_n=\min\mathrm{ev}(A_n)$, where the right-hand side is the An minimal eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix $A_n$ of $P_n$. For an odd $n$ we show that $\min\mathrm{ev}(A_{n+1})\le\tilde{\alpha}_n<\min\mathrm{ev}(A_n)$.

Abstract:Let M be a compact Kähler manifold and N be a subvariety with codimension greater than or equal to 2. We show that there are no complete Kähler–Einstein metrics on M-N . As an application, let E be an exceptional divisor of M . Then M-E cannot admit any complete Kähler–Einstein metric if blow-down of E is a complex variety with only canonical or terminal singularities. A similar result is shown for pairs.

Abstract:Nikiforov (2002) showed that if G is Kr+1-free then the spectral radius ρ(G)≤2m(1−1∕r), which implies that G contains C3 if ρ(G)>m. In this paper, we follow this direction in determining which subgraphs will be contained in G if ρ(G)>f(m), where f(m)∼m as m→∞. We first show that if ρ(G)≥m, then G contains K2,r+1 unless G is a star; and G contains either C3+ or C4+ unless G is a complete bipartite graph, where Ct+ denotes the graph obtained from Ct and C3 by identifying an edge. Secondly, we prove that if ρ(G)≥12+m−34, then G contains pentagon and hexagon unless G is a book; and if ρ(G)>12(k−12)+m+14(k−12)2, then G contains Ct for every t≤2k+2. In the end, some related conjectures are provided for further research.
Multipartite Leggett-type Inequalities

Abstract: We use two different approaches to derive multipartite Leggett-type inequalities, which are generalizations of the two-qubit Leggett-type inequality obtained in [Nature Phys. \textbf{4}, 681 (2008)]. The first approach is based on the assumption that the probability distributions should be non-negative. The second approach is based on a very simple algebraic equation and is, to some extent, easier than the first approach. Although these inequalities might not be the optimal ones in the sense that their quantum violations may not be the strongest, our results make the first step of generalizing Leggett-type inequality to multi-qubit systems and provide the possibility to experimentally test non-local realism in such systems. Moreover, the two approaches here may shed new light on the challenging problem of obtaining stronger multipartite Leggett-type inequalities.
