Abstract:Transparent conductive graphene/carbon nano-composite films are produced based on graphene oxide (GO) sheets and phenolic resins that are layer-by-layer deposited on a quartz substrate using a spin coating technique. The graphene/carbon nano-composite films with high graphitization degree and high crystallization exhibit exceptionally high electrical conductivity and transparency after thermal reduction. A remarkable sheet resistance of 1.98 k Omega/square at 81.3% transparency in the wavelength of 550 nm is obtained, which significantly outperforms that (3.29 k Omega/square at 81.7% transparency) of the film produced from pure GO sheets after thermal reduction.

Abstract:Abstract Graphene oxide (GO), reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have their own advantages in electrical, optical, thermal and mechanical properties. An effective combination of these materials is ideal for preparing transparent conductive films to replace the traditional indium tin oxide films. At present, the preparation conditions of rGO are usually harsh and some of them have toxic effects. In this paper, an SnCl 2 /ethanol solution was selected as the reductant because it requires mild reaction conditions and no harmful products are produced. The whole process of rGO preparation was convenient, fast and environmentally friendly. Then, SEM, XPS, Raman, and XRD were used to verify the high reduction efficiency. CNTs were introduced to improve the film conductive property. The transmittance and sheet resistance were the criteria used to choose the reduction time and the content ratios of GO/CNT. Thanks to the post-treatment of nitric acid, not only the by-product (SnO 2 ) and dispersant in the film are removed, but also the doping effect occurs, which are all conducive to reducing the sheet resistances of films. Ultimately, by combining rGO, GO and CNTs, transparent conductive films with a bilayer and three-dimensional structure were prepared, and they exhibited high transmittance and low sheet resistance (58.8 Ω/sq. at 83.45 T%, 47.5 Ω/sq. at 79.07 T%), with corresponding $${{\sigma_{dc} } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{\sigma_{dc} } {\sigma_{opt} }}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {\sigma_{opt} }}$$ σ dc / σ opt values of 33.8 and 31.8, respectively. In addition, GO and rGO can modify the surface and reduce the film surface roughness. The transparent conductive films are expected to be used in photoelectric devices.

Abstract:Modern Physics Letters B, Ahead of Print. In this study, a silver nanowires (AgNWs)/nano-zinc oxide (ZnO)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) film is fabricated as an alternative to indium tin oxide transparent conductive films (TCFs). AgNWs are prepared by the polyol method with PVP as a dispersant to prevent Ag nanoparticles agglomeration during AgNWs formation. Nano-ZnO is synthesized using sol–gel method. AgNWs/ZnO/PVP TCFs are prepared using the electrostatic spinning and spin coating methods for comparison. It is found that the best PVP/AgNO3 molar ratio is 3.5:1. FTIR and XRD analyses show that 500°C calcination leads to better crystallinity and purity of nano-ZnO. Four-point prober analysis indicates that the higher the AgNWs content, the lower the TCF sheet resistance. The best sheet resistance of AgNWs/ZnO/PVP TCF by the electrostatic spinning method is obtained as 81 [math]/sq, and the light transmittance is 85.3%. Moreover, in the 5-week stability test, the sheet resistance of the electrospun TCF increases by 6.17%, much lower than 24.9% of the spin coated TCF. It is verified that the elecrospun AgNWs/ZnO/PVP composite TCF is a promising alternative to the traditional ITO TCFs.

Abstract:Graphene films (GFs) are promising ultrathin thermally conductive materials for portable electronic devices because of their excellent thermally conductive property, light weight, high flexibility, and low cost. However, the application of GFs is limited due to their poor mechanical properties and through-plane thermal conductivity. Here, a graphene-(graphitized polydopamine)-(carbon nanotube) (G-gPDA-CNT) all-carbon ternary composite film was fabricated by chemical reduction, carbonization, graphitization, and mechanical compaction of the evaporation-assembled (graphene oxide) film. The G-gPDA-CNT film exhibited a uniform all-carbon composite structure in which the components of the graphene, gPDA layers, and CNTs were cross-linked by strong covalent bonds. This unique structure promoted the load transfer and energy dissipation between the components by which the mechanical properties of the G-gPDA-CNT film were substantially improved. Furthermore, electron and phonon transfers were also promoted, greatly improving the electrical and thermal conductivities, especially the through-plane thermal conductivity of the G-gPDA-CNT film. The G-gPDA-CNT film showed a tensile strength of 67.5 MPa, 15.1% ultimate tensile strain, toughness of 6.07 MJ/m3, electrical conductivity of 6.7 × 105 S·m–1, in-plane thermal conductivity of 1597 W·m–1·K–1, and through-plane thermal conductivity of 2.65 W·m–1·K–1, which were 2.24, 1.44, 3.16, 1.46, 1.15, and 3.90 times that of the pure GFs, respectively.The Supporting Information is available free of charge at <a class="ext-link" href="/doi/10.1021/acsami.0c18373?goto=supporting-info">https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acsami.0c18373</a>.SEM image of the GO sheets. Wetting-Induced Fabrication of Graphene Hybrid with Conducting Polymers for High-Performance Flexible Transparent Electrodes

Abstract:Graphene has attracted extensive attention for the supply of electrically conductive, optically transparent, and mechanical robust electrodes for flexible optoelectrical devices, as an alternative to commercial indium tin oxide, due to its superior mechanical, electrical, and optical properties. However, conventional chemical vapor deposition is impeded by harsh conditions and complicated processes, and it is still a challenge to fabricate high-performance graphene transparent electrode in a facile and scalable solution-processable route. Herein, a wetting-induced scalable solution-processable approach to fabricate graphene hybrid with conductive ionogel and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), i.e., graphene/:PSS (G/:PSS), for high-performance flexible transparent electrode (FTE) is reported, achieving a low sheet resistance of 30 Ω sq–1 and a high transmittance of 88% at 550 nm. The as-fabricated trinary hybrid FTE as both transparent electrode and electrochromic layer is applied to a compact indium tin oxide (ITO)-free three-layered flexible electrochromic device, showing fast switching response, good electrochromic contrast, and reliable stability. Abstract:Freestanding carbon-based composite thin films, consisting of a carbon nanotube network patched with graphene sheets, were assembled by a solid-phase layer-stacking approach with ethanol wetting. The composite films are highly flexible, transparent, and conductive, showing a sheet resistance of 735 Omega/sq at 90% transmittance (at 550 nm). Under AM 1.5 illumination, heterojunction solar cells made from the composite films and n-type silicon show a power conversion efficiency of up to 5.2%.

Abstract:The flexible transparent film heater described in this research was based on graphene, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Natural polyphenols gallic acid (GA) was chosen as the “green” reducing agent of graphene oxide (GO) to prepare the GA-functionalized GO (GGO). Then, the GGO nanosheets were introduced into the CNT network, and the GGO/CNT-PET composite films were successfully prepared by a simple spraying method. This type of transparent conductive film (TCF) possesses an excellent optoelectronic performance (Rs = 49.1 Ω/sq., T = ca. 80% at 550 nm) and a very low RMS roughness (approximately 6.89 nm). The sheet resistance of the films changed slightly after the 1000 bending cycles and 100 h of air exposure time, which indicated that the film has good mechanical properties and environmental stability. The composite TCFs were further applied to fabricate transparent film heaters (TFHs) and showed excellent Joule heating performance, fast response speed, good cycling stability, long-term stability, and controllable operating temperature (the power density of the TFHs shows an approximate linear behavior), which satisfy the requirements of TFHs in practical applications, such as safe voltage and temperature in wearable devices, the stable controlling temperature in smart windows, fast heating in defoggers, and so on.

Abstract:Recent development in liquid-phase processing of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) has revealed rod-coating as a promising approach for large-scale production of SWNT-based transparent conductors. Of great importance in the ink formulation is the stabilizer having excellent dispersion stability, environmental friendly and tunable rheology in the liquid state, and also can be readily removed to enhance electrical conductivity and mechanical stability. Herein we demonstrate the promise of graphene oxide (GO) as a synergistic stabilizer for SWNTs in water. SWNTs dispersed in GO is formulated into inks with homogeneous nanotube distribution, good wetting and rheological properties, and compatible with industrial rod coating practice. Microwave treatment of rod-coated films can reduce GOs and enhance electro-optical performance. The resultant films offer a sheet resistance of ~80 Ω/sq at 86% transparency, along with good mechanical flexibility. Doping the films with nitric acid can further decrease the sheet resistance to ~25 Ω/sq. Comparing with the films fabricated from typical surfactant-based SWNT inks, our films offer superior adhesion as assessed by the Scotch tape test. This study provides new insight into the selection of suitable stabilizers for functional SWNT inks with strong potential for printed electronics.

Abstract:Graphene film (GF) is widely used for heat dissipation in portable electronic devices by virtue of its lightweight and high thermal conductivity ( K ). However, in practical applications, mold-cutting GF inevitably generates plenty of scraps with high K , so it is worthwhile to investigate the secondary utilization of scraps. This contribution first used polydopamine (PDA) to surface-modify the crushed large-sized graphite nanosheets (GNs) powder scraps to obtain GNs@PDA. Then the GNs@PDA was mixed with graphene oxide (GO) sheets to prepare graphene/GNs@PDA (G/PG) composite films via self-assembly. After graphitization, the graphitized PDA "welded" the GNs to the derived graphene through covalent bonds. The resulting long-range ordered defect-free lamellar stacking structures effectively facilitated the transfer of phonons and electrons, thus significantly enhancing the K and electrical conductivity of the G/PG film. The in-plane K and electrical conductivity of the G/PG film are up to 1301.8 W/mK and 5939.0 S/cm, respectively. Furthermore, G/PG films also exhibit superior mechanical properties, foldability, and electromagnetic shielding performance. This work provides ideas for the preparation of flexible heat spreaders and realizes the reuse of GF scraps.

Abstract:As-grown graphene via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) has potential defects, cracks, and disordered grain boundaries induced by the synthesis and transfer process. Graphene/silver nanowire/graphene (Gr/AgNW/Gr) sandwich composite has been proposed to overcome these drawbacks significantly as the AgNW network can provide extra connections on graphene layers to enhance the stiffness and electrical conductivity. However, the existing substrate (polyethylene terephthalate (PET), glass, silicon, and so on) for composite production limits its application and mechanics behavior study. In this work, a vacuum annealing method is proposed and validated to synthesize the free-stand Gr/AgNW/Gr nanocomposite film on transmission electron microscopy (TEM) grids. AgNW average spacing, optical transmittance, and electrical conductivity are characterized and correlated with different AgNW concentrations. Atomic force microscope (AFM) indentation on the free-stand composite indicates that the AgNW network can increase the composite film stiffness by approximately 460% with the AgNW concentration higher than 0.6 mg/mL. Raman spectroscopy shows the existence of a graphene layer and the disturbance of the AgNW network. The proposed method provides a robust way to synthesize free-stand Gr/AgNW/Gr nanocomposite and the characterization results can be utilized to optimize the nanocomposite design for future applications.

Abstract:The aim of this study is to fabricate transparent and conductive reduced graphene oxide/silver nanoparticles (RGO/Ag NPs) multilayer film by means of an electrostatic self-assembly method. In order to adsorb Ag NPs onto the surface of graphene oxide (GO) sheet easily, the stable and monodispersed Ag NPs/polyelectrolyte-poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) colloid was prepared firstly via liquid-phase reduction method, which can be used as a polycation solution in the assembly process. Through the thermal annealing, the GO film was reduced to an RGO film and the Ag NPs grew, leading to the formation of RGO film decorated by Ag NPs with large size and hemisphere-like shape. This structure can improve both optical and electrical properties of RGO film. Results indicated that high density, uniformly sized and well-distributed Ag NPs with hemisphere shape and an average particle size of 85 nm were decorated on the surface of the RGO film and also between the RGO films. The atomic ratio of Ag in RGO/Ag NPs film was 0.6%, which was much higher than that in the GE-Ag film we reported recently, obtained using AgNO3 solution. The transmittance and the sheet resistance of 4-layer RGO/Ag NPs film reached 89.2% and 8.3 k Omega square(-1), respectively.
Facile preparation of flexible and highly stable graphene oxide-silver nanowire hybrid transparent conductive electrode

Abstract:Abstract The flexible and highly stable graphene oxide (GO)/silver nanowires (AgNWs) hybrid transparent conductive electrode (TCE) was fabricated by coating AgNWs and GO inks on the surface of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) using a Meyer rod. The as-prepared GO/AgNWs hybrid TCE with a GO concentration of 0.75 mg·ml −1 exhibits excellent optoelectronic performances with a sheet resistance of 25 Ω·sq −1 , a transmittance of 87.6% at 550 nm, and a lower surface roughness with a root mean square (RMS) roughness value of 4.86 nm. The existence of protective GO layer endows excellent thermal oxidation resistance and outperforming mechanical stabilities for GO/AgNWs hybrid TCE even at the conditions of temperature 80 °C, relative humidity (RH) 75% for 16 days, at room temperature in ambient air for 3 months, and mechanical bending of 2200 times, respectively. The GO/AgNWs hybrid TCE is a promising candidate for ITO used in optical devices such as organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), solar cells and flat panel displays.

Abstract:Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene (Gr) are promising materials for flexible transparent conductive films (TCFs) in optoelectronic application because of their exceptional electrical, optical, and mechanical properties. Here, high-quality graphene nanosheets were synthesized by the one-step green method which using natural polyphenols-gallic acid (GA) as the exfoliation medium through high-pressure homogenization; besides, GA molecules can also be used as a non-covalent modifier to obtain GA modified CNTs (GCNTs). Then, the Au decorated Gr/GCNT-PET (Au-Gr/GCNT-PET) TCFs were obtained by a simple spray-coating process. The TCFs exhibited an excellent optoelectronic performance (Rs = 45.6 Ω/sq., T = ca. 80% at 550 nm), relatively flat surface (roughness = 12.43 nm), good bending resistance (the ΔR Au-Gr/GCNT-PET TCF/R0 was 0.07 after 1000 times bending tests) and strong adhesion (the fT of all Au-Gr/GCNT PET films was higher than 0.8). Finally, the Au-Gr/GCNT-PET films were used as an anode to prepare flexible green-light OLED devices; the maximum luminance of the Au-Gr/GCNT-PET device was 6554.1 cd/m2 at 15V, and the maximum current efficiency was 4.03 cd/A. It confirmed that this type of TCFs has considerable potential application in photovoltaic devices.

Fabrication of high performance TFN membrane incorporated with graphene oxide via support-free interfacial polymerization

Abstract:A high-performance thin film nanocomposite (TFN) membrane containing graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets was constructed using a support-free interfacial polymerization (SFIP) technique. In this study, an ultrathin composited polyamide (PA) nanofilm was synthesized at the free piperazine (PIP)-GO suspension/trimesoyl chloride (TMC) interface, followed by transfer onto a polysulfone (PSf) UF substrate. The impact of GO loading (0, 0.1, 0.5, or 1 mg/mL) on the physiochemical properties, surface morphology, and hydrophilicity of the composited PA layer and membrane separation performance was investigated. It was found that the GO-modified TFN membranes showed ultra-high hydrophilicity due to the increase in the number of carboxyl and hydroxyl groups in the PA layer. We propose that GO nanosheets play a key role in improving membrane permeability because a strong hydration layer is formed between the water molecules and GO (embedded in the PA layer), acting as a protective film and minimizing the chance of foulants contacting the membrane surface. Compared with TFC, TFN-GO-0.5 simultaneously exhibited a higher water permeability of up to 12.8 L·m−2·h−1·bar−1 (58.1% higher than the TFC membrane) and a higher Na2SO4 rejection of approximately 98.4%. Moreover, the introduction of GO nanosheets into TFN membrane resulted in an improved antifouling performance. This facile SFIP method reveals the potential of GO nanosheets for the development of high performance TFN membranes.

Abstract:Macroscopic assembly of graphene sheets has renovated the preparation of neat carbonaceous fibers with integrating high performance and superior functionalities, beyond the pyrolysis of conventional polymeric precursors. To date, graphene microfibers by the liquid crystalline wet-spinning method have been established. However, how to reliably prepare continuous neat graphene nanofibers remains unknown. Here, we present the electrospinning of neat graphene nanofibers enabled by modulating colossally extensional flow state of graphene oxide liquid crystals. We use polymer with mega molecular weight as transient additives to realize the colossal extensional flow and electrospinning. The neat graphene nanofibers feature high electronic quality and crystallinity and exhibit high electrical conductivity of 2.02 × 106 S/m that is to be comparable with single crystal graphite whisker. The electrospinning of graphene nanofibers was extended to prepare large-area fabric with high flexibility and superior specific electrical/thermal conductivities. The electrospinning of graphene nanofibers opens the door to nanofibers of rich two-dimensional sheets and the neat graphene nanofibers may grow to be a new species after conventional carbonaceous nanofibers and whiskers in broad functional applications.Graphic abstractElectrospinning of neat graphene nanofibers is realized by achieving the colossal extension flow of GO dispersion with the assistance of mega polymer. Abstract:Graphene-skinned fiber fabric is prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of continuous graphene on fabric, which enables conformal graphene coverage on fibers and inherits high electrical and thermal conductivity of graphene. However, in the fabric-shaped configuration, high electrical and thermal contact resistances between fibers, and the lack of conductive and thermal pathways along radial direction of fibers limit the improvement of electrical and thermal conductivity. Herein, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), due to the 1D structure with excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, are introduced to build rich "bridges" to connect the isolated fibers to build new electron and phonon transport channels. Thus, the conceptual design of CNT/graphene-skinned glass fiber fabric (CNT/GGFF) is creatively proposed and realized by a carefully designed CVD. Constructing the 3D electrically and thermally conductive network in CNT/GGFF leads to >90% decrease of sheet resistance, 4.5 times increase of tensile strength, and >70% decrease of thermal resistance compared with GGFF, making it promising for applications in composite materials, heat dissipation, and de-icing. Moreover, the thermal resistance of CNT/GGFF exhibits temperature-independent, extending applications to aviation and space because changes in thermal conductivity of traditional materials with environmental temperatures can adversely affect the thermal stability, reliability, and lifetime of aircrafts.
Flexible Film Heater Fabricated by Optimized PEDOT:PSS-GO/AgNW Composite Transparent Conductive Film with Enhanced Water Resistance

Abstract:Silver nanowire (AgNW) network film is transparent conductive material with good potential in flexible electronics. PEDOT:PSS as coating on AgNW film can obviously improve the adhesion, surface smoothness and mechanical flexibility of the film However, PEDOT:PSS tends to be dissolved in water, and its water absorption and acidity are also detrimental to the stability of the film. In this paper, we mixed PEDOT:PSS solution with graphene oxide (GO) solution, and spin-coated the hybrid on the surface of AgNW film to prepare PEDOT:PSS-GO/AgNW composite film. The transparent conductive composite film exhibits good adhesion on substrate, lower surface roughness, better thermal stability and mechanical flexibility than both AgNW film and PEDOT:PSS/AgNW film. In addition, the PEDOT:PSS-GO layer showed obviously improved water resistance compared to PEDOT:PSS. After being immersed in water for 1 h, the PEDOT:PSS-GO/AgNW film still exhibited good adhesion on substrate, while the PEDOT:PSS/AgNW film showed weak resistant to tape test due to the dissolution of PEDOT:PSS. Flexible film heaters were fabricated based on PEDOT:PSSGO/AgNW composite film, which exhibited fast response, uniform heat distribution and high temperature at low voltages under bending conditions.

Abstract:This work is dedicated to the study of the noncommutative Gross–Neveu model. As is known, in the canonical Weyl–Moyal approach the model is inconsistent, basically due to the separation of the amplitudes into planar and nonplanar parts. We prove that if instead a coherent basis representation is used, the model becomes renormalizable and free of the aforementioned difficulty. We also show that, although the coherent state procedure breaks Lorentz symmetry in odd dimensions, in the Gross–Neveu model, this breaking can be kept under control by assuming the noncommutativity parameters to be small enough. We also make some remarks on ordering prescriptions used in the literature.

Abstract:Double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) and two kinds of vertically aligned multi-walled carbon nanotubes were employed as raw materials to fabricate transparent conductive films (TCFs). DWCNTs constructed the densest conductive network at the same transmittance, and the corresponding TCFs showed the best performance (320 Ω/□ at 75.0% T). The ratio of dc conductivity to optical conductivity (σ dc/σ op) of the as-dispersed DWCNTs was 3.88. The as-obtained TCFs were dipped in HNO3 solution to improve their performances. Attributed to the removal of sodium dodecyl sulfate molecules, reduction of film thickness, and doping with electron acceptors (such as oxygen), the surface resistance after HNO3 treatment decreased. The σ dc/σ op ratio of the DWCNTs was further increased to 5.24.
