Abstract:For any 3D steady gradient Ricci soliton with positive curvature, we prove that it must be isometric to the Bryant soliton if it is asymptotic to a ray. Otherwise, it is asymptotic to a sector and hence a flying wing. We show that all 3D flying wings are O(2)-symmetric. Therefore, all 3D steady gradient Ricci solitons are O(2)-symmetric.

Abstract:We find a family of 3d steady gradient Ricci solitons that are flying wings. This verifies a conjecture by Hamilton. For a 3d flying wing, we show that the scalar curvature does not vanish at infinity. The 3d flying wings are collapsed. For dimension $n\ge 4$, we find a family of $\mathbb{Z}_2\times O(n-1)$-symmetric but non-rotationally symmetric n-dimensional steady gradient solitons with positive curvature operator. We show that these solitons are non-collapsed.

Abstract:In this paper we prove that any $n$-dimensional ($n\ge 4$) complete Bach-flat gradient steady Ricci soliton with positive Ricci curvature is isometric to the Bryant soliton. We also show that a three-dimensional gradient steady Ricci soliton with divergence-free Bach tensor is either flat or isometric to the Bryant soliton. In particular, these results improve the corresponding classification theorems for complete locally conformally flat gradient steady Ricci solitons in [6] and [9].

Abstract:In this paper we study 4d gradient steady Ricci solitons, which are weak $\kappa$-solutions, and admit O(3)-symmetry. Under a weak curvature decay condition, we find precise geometric asymptotics of such solitons, which are similar to those for 3d compact $\kappa$-solutions found in [ABDS22]. This is the first step towards the classification of 4d gradient steady Ricci solitons and more general ancient Ricci flows.

In the context of generalized Ricci flow, this result represents the analogue of Bryant's construction of the complete rotationally invariant steady soliton for the Ricci flow.

A family of Kähler flying wing steady Ricci solitons

Abstract:In $1996$, H.-D. Cao constructed a $U(n)$-invariant steady gradient Kähler-Ricci soliton on $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ and asked whether every steady gradient Kähler-Ricci soliton of positive curvature on $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ is necessarily $U(n)$-invariant (and hence unique up to scaling). Recently, Apostolov-Cifarelli answered this question in the negative for $n=2$. Here, we construct a family of $U(1)\times U(n-1)$-invariant, but not $U(n)$-invariant, complete steady gradient Kähler-Ricci solitons with strictly positive curvature operator on real $(1,\,1)$-forms (in particular, with strictly positive sectional curvature) on $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ for $n\geq3$, thereby answering Cao's question in the negative for $n\geq3$. This family of steady Ricci solitons interpolates between Cao's $U(n)$-invariant steady Kähler-Ricci soliton and the product of the cigar soliton and Cao's $U(n-1)$-invariant steady Kähler-Ricci soliton. This provides the Kähler analog of the Riemannian flying wings construction of Lai. In the process of the proof, we also demonstrate that the almost diameter rigidity of $\mathbb{P}^{n}$ endowed with the Fubini-Study metric does not hold even if the curvature operator is bounded below by $2$ on real $(1,\,1)$-forms.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the fundamental group of the complete steady gradient Ricci soliton with nonnegative sectional curvature. We prove that the fundamental group of such a Ricci soliton is either trivial or infinite. As a corollary, we show that an $n$-dimensional complete $\kappa$-noncollapsed steady gradient Ricci soliton with nonnegative sectional curvature must be diffeomorphic to $\mathbb{R}^n$.

Abstract:In this paper we prove that any complete conformal gradient soliton with nonnegative Ricci tensor is either isometric to a direct product $\mathbb{R}\times N^{n-1}$, or globally conformally equivalent to the Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ or to the round sphere $\mathbb{S}^{n}$. Abstract:In this paper, we give a rigidity theorem for a complete non-compact expanding (or steady) Ricci soliton with nonnegative Ricci curvature and certain scalar curvature decay condition. As an application, we prove that any complete non-compact expanding (or steady) Kähler-Ricci solitons with positively pinched Ricci curvature should be Ricci flat. The result answers a question proposed by Chow, Lu and Ni in case of Kähler-Ricci solitons.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove some classification results for four-dimensional gradient Ricci solitons. For a four-dimensional gradient shrinking Ricci soliton with $div^4Rm^\pm=0$, we show that it is either Einstein or a finite quotient of $\mathbb{R}^4$, $\mathbb{S}^2\times\mathbb{R}^2$ or $\mathbb{S}^3\times\mathbb{R}$. The same result can be obtained under the condition of $div^4W^\pm=0$. We also present some classification results of four-dimensional complete non-compact gradient expanding Ricci soliton with non-negative Ricci curvature and gradient steady Ricci solitons under certain curvature conditions.

Abstract:The only known example of collapsed three-dimensional complete gradient steady Ricci solitons so far is the 3D cigar soliton $N^2\times \mathbb{R}$, the product of Hamilton's cigar soliton $N^2$ and the real line $\mathbb{R}$ with the product metric. R. Hamilton has conjectured that there should exist a family of collapsed positively curved three-dimensional complete gradient steady solitons, with $\mathsf{S}^1$-symmetry, connecting the 3D cigar soliton. In this paper, we make the first initial progress and prove that the infinitesimal deformation at the 3D cigar soliton is non-essential. In Appendix A, we show that the 3D cigar soliton is the unique complete nonflat gradient steady Ricci soliton in dimension three that admits two commuting Killing vector fields.

Abstract:Let $(M, g, J, f)$ be an irreducible non-trivial Kähler gradient Ricci soliton of real dimension $2n$. We show that its group of isometries is of dimension at most $n^2$ and the case of equality is characterized. As a consequence, our framework shows the uniqueness of $U(n)$-invariant Kähler gradient Ricci solitons constructed earlier. There are corollaries regarding the groups of automorphisms or affine transformations and a general version for almost Hermitian GRS. The approach is based on a connection to the geometry of an almost contact metric structure.

Abstract:We describe the local structure of self-dual gradient Ricci solitons in neutral signature. If the Ricci soliton is non-isotropic then it is locally conformally flat and locally isometric to a warped product of the form $I\times_\varphi N(c)$, where $N(c)$ is a space of constant curvature. If the Ricci soliton is isotropic, then it is locally isometric to the cotangent bundle of an affine surface equipped with the Riemannian extension of the connection, and the Ricci soliton is described by the underlying affine structure. This provides examples of self-dual gradient Ricci solitons which are not locally conformally flat.
