Abstract:In the paper, we construct compact embedded $\lambda$-hypersurfaces which are diffeomorphic to a sphere and are not isometric to a standard sphere. Hence, one can not expect to have Alexandrov type theorem for $\lambda$-hypersurfaces.

Abstract:In the paper, we construct, for $\lambda>0$, complete embedded and non-convex $\lambda$-hypersurfaces, which are diffeomorphic to a cylinder. Hence, one can not expect that $\lambda$-hypersurfaces share a common conclusion on the planar domain conjecture even if the planar domain conjecture of T. Ilmanen for self-shrinkers of mean curvature flow are solved by Brendle \cite{B} affirmatively. Furthermore, for a fixed $\lambda<0$ which may have small $|\lambda|$, we can construct two compact embedded $\lambda$-hypersurfaces which are diffeomorphic to $\mathbb{S}^{1}\times \mathbb{S}^{n-1}$, but they are not isometric to each other.

Abstract:An n-dimensional lambda-hypersurface X : M -> Rn+1 is the critical point of the weighted area functional integral(M) e(-1/4|X|2) d mu for weighted volume-preserving variations, which is also a generalization of the self-shrinking solution of the mean curvature flow. We first prove that if the L-n-norm of the second fundamental form of the lambda-hypersurface X : M -> Rn+1 with n >= 3 is less than an explicit positive constant K(n, lambda), then M is a hyperplane. Secondly, we show that if the L-n-norm of the trace-free second fundamental form of M with n >= 3 is less than an explicit positive constant D(n, lambda) and the mean curvature is suitably bounded, then M is a hyperplane. We also obtain similar results for lambda-surfaces in R-3 under L-4-curvature pinching conditions.

Abstract:In this paper, we find three nontrivial characterizations of Euclidean spheres. In the first result, we show that the existence of a nonzero nontrivial concircular vector field $ {\omega } $ on a compact and connected hypersurface $ N $ of the Euclidean space $ R^{m+1} $ with a mean curvature $ \alpha $ constant along the integral curves of $ {\omega } $ and a shape operator $ T $ satisfying $ T({\omega) = \alpha \omega } $ implies that $ \alpha $ is a constant and $ N $ is isometric to a sphere, and the converse also holds. In the second result, we show that the presence of a unit Killing vector field $ \mathbf{v} $ on a compact and connected hypersurface $ N $ of a Euclidean space $ R^{m+1} $ gives a nonzero function $ \sigma = g\left(T \mathbf{v}, \mathbf{v}\right) $ with shape operator $ T $, and the integral of the function $ m\alpha \sigma Ric\left(\mathbf{v}, \mathbf{v}\right) $ has a certain lower bound, and is isometric to an odd-dimensional sphere, and the converse holds too. Finally, we show that for a compact and connected hypersurface $ N $ with support $ \rho $ and basic vector field $ \mathbf{u} $, the integral of the Ricci curvature $ Ric\left(\mathbf{u}, \mathbf{u}\right) $ has a specific lower bound and is necessarily isometric to a sphere, and the converse also holds.

Abstract:In this article, we prove an eigenvalue pinching theorem for the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian on compact hypersurfaces in a sphere. Let $(M^n,g)$ be a closed, connected, and oriented Riemannian manifold isometrically immersed by $\phi $ into ${\mathbb {S}}^{n+1}$. Let $q>n$ and $A>0$ be some real numbers satisfying $|M|^\frac{1}{n}(1+\Vert B\Vert _q)\le A$. Suppose that $\phi (M)\subset \overline{B}(p_0,R)$, where $p_0$ is a center of gravity of M and radius $R<\pi /2$. We prove that there exists a positive constant $\varepsilon $ depending on q, n, R, and A such that if $n(1+\Vert H\Vert _\infty ^2)-\varepsilon \le \lambda _1$, then M is diffeomorphic to ${\mathbb {S}}^n$. Furthermore, $\phi (M)$ is starshaped with respect to $p_0$, almost-isometric to the geodesic sphere $S\left( p_0,R_0\right) $, where $R_0=\arcsin \frac{1}{\sqrt{1+\Vert H\Vert _\infty ^2}}$.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that $S^{{n - 1}} {\left( {{\sqrt {\frac{{n - m}}{n}} }} \right)} \times S^{1} {\left( {{\sqrt {\frac{m}{n}} }} \right)}$and round geodesic spheres are the only n-dimensional compact embedded rotation hypersurfaces with H m = 0 (1 ≤ m ≤ n − 1) in a unit sphere Sn+1(1). When m = 1, our result reduces to the result of T. Otsuki [O1], [O2], Brito and Leite [BL].

Embeddedness of least area minimal hypersurfaces

Abstract:E. Calabi and J. Cao showed that a closed geodesic of least length in a two-sphere with nonnegative curvature is always simple. Using min-max theory, we prove that for some higher dimensions, this result holds without assumptions on the curvature. More precisely, in a closed $(n+1)$-manifold with $2 \leq n \leq 6$, a least area closed minimal hypersurface exists and any such hypersurface is embedded. As an application, we give a short proof of the fact that if a closed three-manifold $M$ has scalar curvature at least $6$ and is not isometric to the round three-sphere, then $M$ contains an embedded closed minimal surface of area less than $4\pi$. This confirms a conjecture of F. C. Marques and A. Neves.

Abstract:Given $$n_1\ge n_2\ge 2$$ , let $$\Sigma $$ be an orientable, minimal hypersurface of $$\mathbb {S}^{n_1}(1)\times \mathbb {S}^{n_2}(a)$$ with index one. Assume $$\Sigma $$ is closed and either smooth or singular with a singular set $${{\,\mathrm{sing}\,}}(\Sigma )$$ satisfying $$\mathcal {H}^{n-2}({{\,\mathrm{sing}\,}}(\Sigma ))=0$$ . By using the almost product structure, we prove that, when $$a^{2}\ge \frac{n_2}{n_1-1}$$ or $$a^{2}\le \frac{n_2-1}{n_1}$$ , such $$\Sigma $$ must be totally geodesic. As an application, combining with the results of X. Zhou [37], we compute the width of $$\mathbb {S}^{n_1}(1)\times \mathbb {S}^{n_2}(a)$$ .
Minimal hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{S}^{4}(1)$ by doubling the equatorial $\mathbb{S}^{3}$

Abstract:For each large enough $m\in\mathbb{N}$ we construct by PDE gluing methods a closed embedded smooth minimal hypersurface ${\breve{M}_m}$ doubling the equatorial three-sphere $\mathbb{S}_{\mathrm{eq}}^3$ in $\mathbb{S}^4(1)$, with ${\breve{M}_m}$ containing $m^2$ bridges modelled after the three-dimensional catenoid and centered at the points of a square $m\times m$ lattice $L$ contained in the Clifford torus $\mathbb{T}^2\subset \mathbb{S}_{\mathrm{eq}}^3$. This answers a long-standing question of Yau in the case of $\mathbb{S}^4(1)$ and long-standing questions of Hsiang. Similarly we construct a self-shrinker ${\breve{M}_{\mathrm{shr},m}}$ of the Mean Curvature Flow in $\mathbb{R}^4$ doubling the three-dimensional spherical self-shrinker $\mathbb{S}_{\mathrm{shr}}^3\subset \mathbb{R}^4$ with the bridges centered at the points of a square $m\times m$ lattice $L$ contained in a Clifford torus $\mathbb{T}^2\subset \mathbb{S}_{\mathrm{shr}}^3$. Both constructions respect the symmetries of the lattice $L$ as a subset of $\mathbb{S}^4(1)$ or $\mathbb{R}^4$ and are based on the Linearized Doubling (LD) methodology which was first introduced in the construction of minimal surface doublings of $\mathbb{S}_{\mathrm{eq}}^2$ in $\mathbb{S}^3(1)$. Furthermore $\breve{M}_m$ converges as $m \to\infty$ in the varifold sense to $2\mathbb{S}_{\mathrm{eq}}^3$, and its volume $|\breve{M}_m| < 2|\mathbb{S}_{\mathrm{eq}}^3|$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study n-dimensional hypersurfaces with constant mth mean curvature in a unit sphere Sn+1(1) and construct many compact nontrivial embedded hypersurfaces with constant mth mean curvature Hm > 0 in Sn+1(1), for 1 ≤ m ≤ n-1. Moreover, if the 2nd mean curvature H2 takes value between [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] for any integer k ≥ 2 and n ≥ 3, then there exists an n-dimensional compact nontrivial embedded hypersurface with constant H2 (i.e. constant scalar curvature) in Sn+1(1); If the 4th mean curvature H4 takes value between [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] for any integer k ≥ 3 and n ≥ 5, then there exists an n-dimensional compact nontrivial embedded hypersurface with constant H4 in Sn+1(1).
On Some Rigidity Results of Hypersurfaces in A Sphere

Abstract:We study the weak stability index of an immersion ϕ: M → Sn+1 (1) ⊂ Rn+2 of an n-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold. We prove that the weak stability index of a compact hypersurface M with constant scalar curvature in Sn+1 (1), which is not totally umbilical, is greater than or equal to n + 2 if the mean curvature H1 and H3 are constant, and that the equality holds if and only if M is $\smash{S^m(c)\times S^{n-m}(\sqrt{1-c^2})}$. As an application, we show that the weak stability index of an n-dimensional compact hypersurface with constant scalar curvature in Sn+1 (1), which is neither totally umbilical nor a Clifford hypersurface, is greater than or equal to 2n + 4 if the mean curvature H1 and H3 are constant.
Integral-Einstein hypersurfaces in spheres

Abstract:Combining the intrinsic and extrinsic geometry, we generalize Einstein manifolds to Integral-Einstein (IE) submanifolds. A Takahashi-type theorem is established to characterize minimal hypersurfaces with constant scalar curvature (CSC) in unit spheres which are conjectured to be isoparametric in the Chern conjecture. For these hypersurfaces, we obtain some integral inequalities with the bounds characterizing exactly the totally geodesic hypersphere, the non-IE minimal Clifford torus $S^{1}(\sqrt{\frac{1}{n}})\times S^{n-1}(\sqrt{\frac{n-1}{n}})$ and the IE minimal CSC hypersurfaces. Moreover, if further the third mean curvature is constant, then it is an IE hypersurface or an isoparametric hypersurface with $g\leq2$ principal curvatures. In particular, all minimal isoparametric hypersurfaces with $g\geq3$ principal curvatures are IE hypersurfaces. As applications, we obtain some spherical Bernstein theorems, including that any embedded closed minimal surface of genus no more than $\mathfrak{g}$ inside a tubular neighborhood of constant radius $r(\mathfrak{g})>0$ around an equator in $\mathbb{S}^3$ is an equator.

Abstract:We construct compact arbitrary Euler characteristic orientable and non-orientable minimal surfaces in the Berger spheres. Besides we show an interesting family of surfaces that are minimal in every Berger sphere, characterizing them by this property. Finally we construct, via the Daniel correspondence, new examples of constant mean curvature surfaces in the products S^2 x R, H^2 x R and in the Heisenberg group with many symmetries.

Abstract:In this paper, we study hypersurfaces $M_{r}^{4}$ $(r=0, 1, 2, 3, 4)$ satisfying $\triangle \vec{H}=\lambda \vec{H}$ ($\lambda$ a constant) in the pseudo-Euclidean space $\mathbb{E}_{s}^{5}$ $(s=0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)$. We obtain that every such hypersurface in $\mathbb{E}_{s}^{5}$ with diagonal shape operator has constant mean curvature, constant norm of second fundamental form and constant scalar curvature. Also, we prove that every biharmonic hypersurface in $\mathbb{E}_{s}^{5}$ with diagonal shape operator must be minimal.

Abstract:In this paper, we estimate areas of compact minimal rotational hypersurfaces in the unit sphere. A sharper lower bound and upper bound on areas of these hypersurfaces are given. As applications, we confirm two conjectures, one in Perdomo and Wei (Nonlinear Anal 125:241–250, 2015), another in Cheng et al (Asian J Math 25:183–194, 2021) and give estimations of entropies of some special self-shrinkers.
