Abstract:In the first part of this work we have established an efficient method to obtain a topological classification of locally discrete, finitely generated, virtually free subgroups of real-analytic circle diffeomorphisms. In this second part we describe several consequences, among which the solution (within this setting) to an old conjecture by P. R. Dippolito [Ann. Math. 107 (1978), 403-453] that actions with invariant Cantor sets must be semi-conjugate to piecewise linear actions. In addition, we exhibit examples of locally discrete, minimal actions which are not of Fuchsian type.

Abstract:Boolean locales are "almost discrete", in the sense that a spatial Boolean locale is just a discrete locale (that is, it corresponds to the frame of open subsets of a discrete space, namely the powerset of a set). This basic fact, however, cannot be proven constructively, that is, over intuitionistic logic, as it requires the full law of excluded middle (LEM). In fact, discrete locales are never Boolean constructively, except for the trivial locale. So, what is an almost discrete locale constructively? Our claim is that Sambin's overlap algebras have good enough features to deserve to be called that. Namely, they include the class of discrete locales, they arise as smallest strongly dense sublocales (of overt locales), and hence they coincide with the Boolean locales if LEM holds.

Pointless Parts of Completely Regular Locales

Abstract:(Completely regular) locales generalize (Tychonoff) spaces; indeed, the passage from a locale to its spatial sublocale is a well understood coreflection. But a locale also possesses an equally important pointless sublocale, and with morphisms suitably restricted, the passage from a locale to its pointless sublocale is also a coreflection. Our main theorem is that every locale can be uniquely represented as a subdirect product of its pointless and spatial parts, again with suitably restricted projections. We then exploit this representation by showing that any locale is determined by (what may be described as) the placement of its points in its pointless part.

Abstract:The dissolution (introduced by Isbell in [3], discussed by Johnstone in [5] and later exploited by Plewe in [12, 13]) is here viewed as the relation of the geometry of L with that of the more dispersed T( L ) = S( L ) op mediated by the natural embedding and its adjoint localic map γ L : T( L ) → L . The associated image-preimage adjunction ( γ L ) −1 [−] ⊣ γ L [−] between the frames T( L ) and TT( L ) is shown to coincide with the adjunction c T( L ) ⊣ γ T ( L ) of the second step of the assembly (tower) of L . This helps to explain the role of T( L ) = S( L ) op as an "almost discrete lift" (sometimes used as a sort of model of the classical discrete lift DL → L ) as a dispersion going halfway to Booleanness. Consequent use of the concrete sublocales technique simplifies the reasoning. We illustrate it on the celebrated Plewe's theorem on ultranormality (and ultraparacompactness) of S( L ) which becomes (we hope) substantially more transparent.

Abstract:We study the compactification of semitopological groups with remainders being locally p⁎⁎-spaces, and establish: (1) if a semitopological group X has a remainder that is locally a p⁎⁎-space, then either X is a paracompact p-topological group, or X is meager; (2) if a non-locally compact paratopological group X has a remainder that is locally a p-space, then either X is a Lindelöf p-space, or X is σ-compact; (3) if a compact space Z is the union of two non-locally compact semitopological groups X and Y such that Z∖X is locally developable, then Z is separable and metrizable; (4) if a non-locally compact Baire semitopological group G has a remainder Y that is the union of a finite family of metrizable subspaces, then G is metrizable. Some results of A.V. Arhangel'skii et al. are improved.

Abstract:Spacetime is represented by ordered sequences of topologically closed Poincare sections of the primary space constructed of primary empty cells. These mappings are constrained to provide homeomorphic structures serving as frames of reference in order to account for the successive positions of any objects present in the system. Mappings from one to the next section involve morphisms of the general structures. Discrete properties of the lattice allow the prediction of scales at which microscopic to cosmic structures should occur. Deformations of primary cells by exchange of empty set cells allow a cell to be mapped into an image cell in the next section as far as mapped cells remain homeomorphic. If a deformation involves a fractal transformation to objects, there occurs a change in the dimension of the cell and the homeomorphism is not conserved. The fractal kernel stands for a "particle" and the reduction of its volume is compensated by morphic changes of a finite number of surrounding cells. Quanta of distances and quanta of fractality are demonstrated. The interaction of a moving particle-like deformation with the surrounding lattice involves a fractal decomposition process that supports the existence and properties of previously postulated inerton clouds as associated to particles. Experimental evidence and further possibilities of the existence of inertons are proposed.

Uniform locales and their constructive aspects

Abstract:Much work has been done on generalising results about uniform spaces to the pointfree context. However, this has almost exclusively been done using classical logic, whereas much of the utility of the pointfree approach lies in its constructive theory, which can be interpreted in many different toposes. Johnstone has advocated for the development of a constructive theory of uniform locales and wrote a short paper on the basic constructive theory via covering uniformities, but he never followed this up with a discussion of entourage uniformities or completions. We present a more extensive constructive development of uniform locales, including both entourage and covering approaches, their equivalence, completions and some applications to metric locales and localic algebra. Some aspects of our presentation might also be of interest even to classically minded pointfree topologists. These include the definition and manipulation of entourage uniformities using the internal logic of the geometric hyperdoctrine of open sublocales and the emphasis on pre-uniform locales. The latter leads to a description of the completion as the uniform reflection of the pre-uniform locale of Cauchy filters and a new result concerning the completion of pre-uniform localic rings, which can be used to easily lift addition and multiplication on $\mathbb{Q}$ to $\mathbb{R}$ (or $\mathbb{Q}_p$) in the pointfree setting.

Abstract:In a 2005 paper, Casacuberta, Scevenels and Smith construct a homotopy idempotent functor $E$ on the category of simplicial sets with the property that whether it can be expressed as localization with respect to a map $f$ is independent of the ZFC axioms. We show that this construction can be carried out in homotopy type theory. More precisely, we give a general method of associating to a suitable (possibly large) family of maps, a reflective subuniverse of any universe $\mathcal{U}$. When specialized to an appropriate family, this produces a localization which when interpreted in the $\infty$-topos of spaces agrees with the localization corresponding to $E$. Our approach generalizes the approach of [CSS] in two ways. First, by working in homotopy type theory, our construction can be interpreted in any $\infty$-topos. Second, while the local objects produced by [CSS] are always 1-types, our construction can produce $n$-types, for any $n$. This is new, even in the $\infty$-topos of spaces. In addition, by making use of universes, our proof is very direct. Along the way, we prove many results about "small" types that are of independent interest. As an application, we give a new proof that separated localizations exist. We also give results that say when a localization with respect to a family of maps can be presented as localization with respect to a single map, and show that the simplicial model satisfies a strong form of the axiom of choice which implies that sets cover and that the law of excluded middle holds.

The DeMorganization of a locale

Abstract:In 2009, Caramello proved that each topos has a largest dense subtopos whose internal logic satisfies De Morgan law (also known as the law of the weak excluded middle). This finding implies that every locale has a largest dense extremally disconnected sublocale, referred to as its DeMorganization. In this paper, we take the first steps in exploring the DeMorganization in the localic context, shedding light on its geometric nature by showing that it is always a fitted sublocale and by providing a concrete description. The main result of the paper is that for any metrizable locale (without isolated points), its DeMorganization coincides with its Booleanization. This, in particular, implies that any extremally disconnected metric locale (without isolated points) must be Boolean, generalizing a well-known result for topological spaces to the localic setting.

Partially Ordered Sheaves on a Locale. I (II)

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the order algebraic structure in the category of sheaves on a given locale X. Since every localic topos has a generating set formed by its subterminal objects, we define a "point" of a partially ordered sheaf to be a morphism from a subterminal sheaf to the partially ordered sheaf. Using the concept of "points," we investigate the completeness of posheaves systemically. Some internal characterizations of complete partially ordered sheaves and frame sheaves are given. We also give an explicit description of the construction of associated sheaf locales and show directly that the category Sh(X) of sheaves on a locale X is equivalent to the slice category LH/X of locales and local homeomorphisms over X. Applying this equivalence, we give characterizations of partially ordered sheaves and complete partially ordered sheaves in terms of sheaf locale respectively. This paper is a continuation of our paper [1]. In this paper, we first introduce the concept of directed complete partially ordered sheaves (shortly dcposheaves) on a given locale. some internal characterizations of dcposheaves and meet continuous dcposheaves are given respectively. We also give characterizations of continuous posheaves and completely distributive posheaves, and show that an algebraic completely distributive posheaf is spatial.

Abstract:Combining creature forcing approaches from [KS12] and [FGKS17] , we show that, under ch , there is a proper ωω -bounding poset with א 2 -cc that forces continuum many pairwise different cardinal characteristics, parametrised by reals, for each one of the following six types: uniformity and covering numbers of Yorioka ideals as well as both kinds of localisation and anti-localisation cardinals, respectively. This answers several open questions from [KM22] .

Abstract:How can sparse graph theory be extended to large networks, where algorithms whose running time is estimated using the number of vertices are not good enough? I address this question by introducing 'Local Separators' of graphs. Applications include: 1. A unique decomposition theorem for graphs along their local 2-separators analogous to the 2-separator theorem; 2. an exact characterisation of graphs with no bounded subdivision of a wheel.

Abstract:Based on the conviction of switching information from locally accessible to locally hidden environs, the concept of hidden nonlocality activation has recently been highlighted by Bandyopadhyay et al. in [Phys. Rev. A 104, L050201 (2021)]. They have demonstrated that a certain locally distinguishable set of pure quantum states can be transformed into a locally indistinguishable set with certainty through orthogonality preserving local measurements (OPLMs). This transformation makes the set locally inaccessible, despite being locally accessible before. This phenomenon is defined as the activation of hidden nonlocality. In this paper, we present two classes of locally distinguishable sets within $(2m+1) \otimes 2 \otimes (2m+1)$ systems. One class reveals nonlocality through local operations, whereas the other requires joint measurements for it. As the later class depends on nonlocal operations to exhibit nonlocality, it arguably has a lower degree of nonlocality, and accordingly, can be considered as more local compared to the first class. This analysis exhibits a stronger manifestation of locality by elucidating the nuanced interplay between these distinct local phenomena within the framework of quantum state discrimination. Furthermore, we also explore their significant applications in the context of data hiding. Additionally, we introduce the concept of \emph{``strong local"} set and compare it with various activatable sets, highlighting differences in terms of locality.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study some variants of nowhere dense sublocales called maximal nowhere dense and homogeneous maximal nowhere dense sublocales. These concepts were initially introduced by Veksler in classical topology. We give some general properties of these sublocales and further examine their relationship with both inaccessible sublocales and remote sublocales. It turns out that a locale has all of its non-void nowhere dense sublocales maximal nowhere dense precisely when all of its its non-void nowhere dense sublocales are inaccessible. We show that the Booleanization of a locale is inaccessible with respect to every dense and open sublocale. In connection to remote sublocales, we prove that, if the supplement of an open dense sublocale S is homogeneous maximal nowhere dense, then every $S^{\#}$-remote sublocale is *-remote from S. Every open localic map that sends dense elements to dense elements preserves and reflects maximal nowhere dense sublocales. If such a localic map is further injective, then it sends homogeneous maximal nowhere dense sublocales back and forth.

Locality properties for discrete and continuum Widom--Rowlinson models in random environments

Abstract:We consider the Widom--Rowlinson model in which hard disks of two possible colors are constrained to a hard-core repulsion between particles of different colors, in quenched random environments. These random environments model spatially dependent preferences for the attachment of disks. We investigate the possibility to represent the joint process of environment and infinite-volume Widom--Rowlinson measure in terms of continuous (quasilocal) Papangelou intensities. We show that this is not always possible: In the case of the symmetric Widom-Rowlinson model on a non-percolating environment, we can explicitly construct a discontinuity coming from the environment. This is a new phenomenon for systems of continuous particles, but it can be understood as a continuous-space echo of a simpler non-locality phenomenon known to appear for the diluted Ising model (Griffiths singularity random field) on the lattice, as we explain in the course of the proof.

Abstract:Let M be a transitive model of set theory and X be a space in the sense of M. Is there a reasonable way to interpret X as a space in V? A general theory due to Zapletal provides a natural candidate which behaves well on sufficiently complete spaces (for instance Čech complete spaces) but behaves poorly on more general spaces - for instance, the Zapletal interpretation does not commute with products. We extend Zapletal's framework to instead interpret locales, a generalization of topological spaces which focuses on the structure of open sets. Our extension has a number of desirable properties; for instance, localic products always interpret as spatial products. We show that a number of localic notions coincide exactly with properties of their interpretations; for instance, we show a locale is $T_U$ if and only if all its interpretations are $T_1$, a locale is $I$-Hausdorff if and only if all its interpretations are $T_2$, a locale is regular if and only if all its interpretations are $T_3$, and a locale is compact if and only if all its interpretations are compact.
