Abstract:We propose and study a two-orbital lattice extension of the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model in the large-$N$ limit. The phase diagram of this model features a high temperature isotropic strange metal which undergoes a first-order thermal transition into a nematic insulator or a continuous thermal transition into nematic metal phase, separated by a tunable tricritical point. These phases arise from spontaneous partial orbital polarization of the multiorbital non-Fermi liquid. We explore the spectral and transport properties of this model, including the d.c. elastoresistivity, which exhibits a peak near the nematic transition, as well as the nonzero frequency elastoconductivity. Our work offers a useful perspective on nematic phases and transport in correlated multiorbital systems.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is how to explore the emergence of nematic phases and their transport properties by constructing a theoretically solvable microscopic lattice model in multi - orbital non - Fermi liquids (nFL). Specifically, the authors propose a two - orbital lattice extended model based on the Sachdev - Ye - Kitaev (SYK) model, aiming to study the thermodynamic transition of isotropic non - Fermi liquids at high temperatures to nematic insulators or nematic metals during the cooling process. In addition, they also explore the energy spectrum and transport characteristics in this model, especially the peak phenomenon of the direct - current elastoresistivity near the nematic transition, and the elastoconductivity at non - zero frequencies. The core problems of the paper are: 1. **Model construction**: Propose a two - orbital SYK model, which can describe the non - Fermi liquid behavior of multi - orbital systems in the large \(N\) limit. 2. **Phase diagram study**: Study the phase diagram of this model, including isotropic non - Fermi liquids at high temperatures, nematic insulators and nematic metals at low temperatures, and the thermodynamic transitions between these phases. 3. **Transport properties**: Analyze the transport properties of the model, especially the direct - current elastoresistivity and the elastoconductivity at non - zero frequencies, in order to detect the characteristics of the nematic phase transition. 4. **Strain effect**: Explore the influence of uniaxial strain on transport properties, especially the behavior near the nematic phase transition. Through the study of these problems, the authors hope to provide a new perspective for understanding nematic phases and transport properties in strongly correlated multi - orbital systems and provide theoretical support for experimental research.
