Abstract:We study families formed with subsets of any set X which are quantum logics but which are not Boolean algebras. We consider sequences of measures defined on a sets quantum logics and valued on an effect algebra and obtain a sufficient condition for a sequences of such measures to be uniformly strongly additive with respect to order topology of effect algebras.

Abstract:Several classes of tempered measures are characterised that are eigenmeasures of the Fourier transform, the latter viewed as a linear operator on (generally unbounded) Radon measures on $\RR^d$. In particular, we classify all periodic eigenmeasures on $\RR$, which gives an interesting connection with the discrete Fourier transform and its eigenvectors, as well as all eigenmeasures on $\RR$ with uniformly discrete support. An interesting subclass of the latter emerges from the classic cut and project method for aperiodic Meyer sets. Finally, we construct a large class of eigenmeasures with locally finite support that is not uniformly discrete and has large gaps around $0$.

Abstract:We introduce a notion of geometric tempering using exponentially-dampened Mittag-Leffler tempering functions and closely investigate the univariate case. Characteristic exponents and cumulants are calculated, as well as spectral densities. Absolute continuity relations are shown, and short and long time scaling limits of the associated Lévy processes analyzed.

Abstract:We study properties of temperate non-negative purely atomic measures in the Euclidean space such that the distributional Fourier transform of these measures are pure point ones. A connection between these measures and almost periodicity is shown, several forms of the uniqueness theorem are proved. We also obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for a measure with positive integer masses on the real line to correspond the zero set of an absolutely convergent Dirichlet series with bounded spectrum.

Abstract:The author was recently able to provide a cohomological interpretation of Tate's Riemann-Roch formula for number fields using some new harmonic analysis objects, ghost-spaces. When trying to investigate these objects in general, we realized the importance of functions and measures on locally compact abelian groups that are both positive and positive-definite at the same time. It looks like this class of functions and measures was not systematically studied before. The goal of this paper is to partially fill in this gap. We answer some of the natural questions involving these functions and measures, especially those that satisfy some extra integrability conditions. We also study some operations and constructions involving these functions and measures. There are several very interesting open questions, that we are only able to point out at this moment. In particular, the structure of the cone of such functions is not clear even when the group is just $\R.$

Abstract:This paper is partly an exposition, and partly an extension of our work [1] to the multiparameter case. We consider certain classes of parametrized dynamically defined measures. These are push-forwards, under the natural projection, of ergodic measures for parametrized families of smooth iterated function systems (IFS) on the line. Under some assumptions, most crucially, a transversality condition, we obtain formulas for the Hausdorff dimension of the measure and absolute continuity for almost every parameter in the appropriate parameter region. The main novelty of [1] and the present paper is that not only the IFS, but also the ergodic measure in the symbolic space, whose push-forward we consider, depends on the parameter. This includes many interesting families of measures, in particular, invariant measures for IFS's with place-dependent probabilities and natural (equilibrium) measures for smooth IFS's. One of the goals of this paper is to present an exposition of [1] in a more reader-friendly way, emphasizing the ideas and proof strategies, but omitting the more technical parts. This exposition/survey is based in part on the series of lectures by Károly Simon at the Summer School "Dynamics and Fractals" in 2023 at the Banach Center, Warsaw. The main new feature, compared to [1], is that we consider multi-parameter families; in other words, the set of parameters is allowed to be multi-dimensional. This broadens the scope of applications. A new application considered here is to a class of Furstenberg-like measures.

Abstract:We construct measure which determines a two-variable mean in a very natural way. Using that measure we can extend the mean to infinite sets as well. E.g. we can calculate the geometric mean of any set with positive Lebesgue measure. We also study the properties and behavior of such generalized means that are obtained by a measure, and we provide some applications as well.

Abstract:We show that the Dean–Kawasaki equation does not admit non-trivial solutions in the space of tempered measures. More specifically, we consider martingale solutions taking values, and with initial conditions, in the subspace of measures admitting infinite mass and satisfying some integrability conditions. Following work by the first author, Lehmann and von Renesse (Electron Commun Probab 24:3916340, 2019), we show that the equation only admits solutions if the initial measure is a discrete measure. Our result extends the previously mentioned works by allowing measures with infinite mass.

Abstract:We introduce a large and flexible class of discrete tempered stable distributions, and analyze the domains of attraction for both this class and the related class of positive tempered stable distributions. Our results suggest that these are natural models for sums of independent and identically distributed random variables with tempered heavy tails tails, i.e. tails that appear to be heavy up to a point, but ultimately decay faster.

Abstract:A simple condition is given that is sufficient to determine whether a measure that is absolutely continuous with respect to a Gaußian measure on the space of distributions is reflection positive. It readily generalises conventional lattice results to an abstract setting, enabling the construction of many reflection positive measures that are not supported on lattices.

Abstract:Stern's diatomic sequence with its intrinsic repetition and refinement structure between consecutive powers of $2$ gives rise to a rather natural probability measure on the unit interval. We construct this measure and show that it is purely singular continuous, with a strictly increasing, Hölder continuous distribution function. Moreover, we relate this function with the solution of the dilation equation for Stern's diatomic sequence.

Abstract:In this paper we define Schwartz families in tempered distribution spaces and prove many their properties. Schwartz families are the analogous of infinite dimensional matrices of separable Hilbert spaces, but for the Schwartz test function spaces, having elements (functions) realizable as vectors indexed by real Euclidean spaces (ordered families of scalars indexed by real Euclidean spaces). In the paper, indeed, one of the consequences of the principal result (the characterization of summability for Schwartz families) is that the space of linear continuous operators among Schwartz test function spaces is linearly isomorphic with the space of Schwartz families. It should be noticed that this theorem is possible because of the very good properties of Schwartz test function spaces and because of the particular structures of the Schwartz families viewed as generalized matrices; in fact, any family of tempered distribution, regarded as generalized matrix, has one index belonging to a Euclidean space and one belonging to a test function space, so that any Schwartz family is a matrix in the sense of distributions. Another motivation for the introduction and study of these families is that these are the families which are summable with respect to every tempered system of coefficients, in the sense of superpositions. The Schwartz families we present in this paper are one possible rigorous and simply manageable mathematical model for the infinite matrices used frequently in Quantum Mechanics.

Abstract:We give a simple criterion on the set of probability tangent measures $\mathrm{Tan}(\mu,x)$ of a positive Radon measure $\mu$, which yields lower bounds on the Hausdorff dimension of $\mu$. As an application, we give an elementary and purely algebraic proof of the sharp Hausdorff dimension lower bounds for first-order linear PDE-constrained measures; bounds for closed (measure) differential forms and normal currents are further discussed. A weak structure theorem in the spirit of [Ann. Math. 184(3) (2016), pp. 1017-1039] is also discussed for such measures.

Abstract:In this paper, several useful inequalities for uncertain variables are proved. A Borel-Cantelli lemma for uncertain measures is obtained and some convergence theorems for continuous uncertain measures are derived. Finally, these theorems are applied to compute the uncertainty distribution of Liu integral. We prove that the uncertain integral of a deterministic function with respect to a Liu process has a normal uncertainty distribution.
