A Corpus-based Approach to Children's Literature Translation

Abstract:Based on the review of children's literature translation research(CLT)in China and abroad,this paper points out that CLT is relatively weak in China,not to mention the corpus-based approach to CLT.The paper illustrated the corpus-based approach to translator's style in CLT by investigating Ren's and Ye's Chinese version of The Little Mermaid in terms of TTR,sentence length and punctuations.The research findings indicate that Ren's is typical of long sentences and high lexical density while Ye's is more sentimental and readable than Ren's.It is sentence length,punctuations as well as lexical density that distinguish Ren's translation from Ye's and can hence be considered features of translator's style.
