Abstract:We introduce the pinching operator, which extends the theory of squeezing operators to cubic and higher order non-Gaussian operators, and use it to approximate $n$-photon entangled states using a pinched vacuum state and pinching tensor of rank $n$. A simple recursion relation is derived for generating the Bogoliubov transformed creation and annihilation operators, which may be used to express the pinched state as a statistically equivalent set of nonlinearly transformed complex Gaussian random variables. Using this representation, we compare low-order approximations of the pinched state to entangled multiphoton Fock states, such as Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) and W states. Using post-selection and a threshold detector model to represent non-Gaussian measurements, we find that this model is capable of producing states with a fidelity comparable to that of experimentally prepared multiphoton entangled states. In particular, we obtain a Mermin statistic of $5.27 \pm 0.01$ for a five-photon GHZ state, violating the noncontexuality threshold by 127 standard deviations.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### Problems the Paper Aims to Solve The paper aims to address the problem of approximating multi-photon entangled states by introducing the concept of a "pinching operator." Specifically: 1. **Proposing a New Pinching Operator**: - This new operator extends the traditional squeezing operator theory, capable of describing higher-order non-Gaussian operators. - Using this new operator, it is possible to approximately generate $n$-photon entangled states. 2. **Generating Multi-Photon Entangled States**: - Using "squeezed vacuum states" and higher-order "squeezing tensors" to represent $n$-photon entangled states. - A simple recursive relation is proposed to generate the creation and annihilation operators after the Bogoliubov transformation, thereby representing the squeezed states as a set of complex Gaussian random variables under nonlinear transformations. 3. **Verifying the Approximation Effect**: - Comparing this approximation method with known multi-photon entangled states (such as GHZ states and W states). - Using a threshold detector model to represent non-Gaussian measurements and finding that this method can generate fidelities comparable to experimentally prepared multi-photon entangled states. 4. **Numerical Simulation Verification**: - Verifying the effectiveness of these approximation methods through numerical simulations. - Performing quantum state tomography (QST) on GHZ states and W states under different parameter settings, and comparing the calculated fidelities with experimental results. Through the above methods, the paper aims to provide a new theoretical framework for efficiently approximating and generating multi-photon entangled states.
