Abstract:The evaluation and selection of reliable suppliers are an extremely important operational activity for any supply chain management. It is a hard problem since supplier selection is typically a multi-criteria decision-making problem involving several conflicting qualitative and quantitative criteria on which the decision-maker's knowledge is usually vague and imprecise. The selection process may be biased while the decision is made by single expert instead of multiple experts. This paper shows an integrated fuzzy approach to solve this problem. In this study, the proposed multi-criteria group decision-making model is developed by integrating intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS), fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (fuzzy AHP), and fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (fuzzy TOPSIS). The weight of the decision-maker is determinedby using the intuitionistic fuzzy set, criteria weight is determined by the fuzzy AHP, and both weights are applied in the fuzzy TOPSIS method for ranking the suppliers. The efficiency and practicability of the presented approach are numerically demonstrated by solving a numerical example. Finally, sensitivity analysis is performed to test the robustness and stability of the introduced methodology. The result shows that the proposed model is more robust compared to other approaches.

Abstract:This paper aims to compare two tools for decision makers that intend to support the decision of the selection of the appropriate supplier. Suppliers are crucial to both the efficiency and effectiveness of the performance of companies. A critical success factor of these companies is the selection of the appropriate supplier. A methodology is proposed to optimise the evaluation process based on different criteria. The proposed approach extends the one proposed by Ordoobadi (2009, Development of a supplier selection model using fuzzy logic. Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, 14 (4), 314–327) who proposed the application of fuzzy logic (FL) where we use the same example case study in order to compare the analytic hierarch process (AHP) with FL. In this paper we demonstrate how we can achieve the same objective of expressing human assessments in the form of linguistic expressions by using AHP. Moreover, we demonstrate the capability to run a sensitivity analysis which helps to understand the causal relationships among the different factors. We demonstrate how this capability can help us to explain and predict the different relationships among criteria and alternatives. Moreover, we provide a measure that is able to capture the consistency of the decision maker's preferences. In our approach we provide a single unit of scale that is not only capable of ranking suppliers but also provides an understanding of the difference in scale between different suppliers which can then help to allocate resources accordingly. These facilities are not offered by Ordoobadi (2009). The proposed approach here can help companies to identify the best supplier in changing environments. The paper describes a decision model that incorporates a decision maker's subjective assessments and applies a multiple criteria decision making technique to manipulate and quantify these assessments. Unlike many similar studies, two techniques have been performed on the same case study in order to improve our understanding of the differences in the proposed techniques.

Abstract:This paper presents the analysis of contractor selection (CS) models from the perspective of critical review. A comprehensive analysis of contemporary CS models is conducted in the context of model criteria, decision-making techniques, and selection mechanisms. The major aim of this analysis is to probe the shortcomings in the precedent selection models and further to overcome the reservations with exhortation. The authors retort the interrogations from the review of articles from the last two decades. The study compiles the major chunk of the model's classifications in the frame of their purposes and the drawbacks of current models to enlighten the work. It is concluded from the analysis, observations, and critical understating of reviewed models that owing to several shortcomings in those models, comprehensive research is required to develop easier and user-friendly models that sound practical on the ground. The future call in terms of appropriateness, suitability and simplicity, and applicability and adaptability terms is a novel and interesting approach for future CS models.

Abstract:Recently, there is of significant interest in developing multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) techniques with large applications for real-life problems. Making a reasonable and accurate decision on MCDM problems can help develop enterprises better. The existing MCDM methods, such as the grey comprehensive evaluation (GCE) method and the technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS), have their one-sidedness and shortcomings. They neither consider the difference of shape and the distance of the evaluation sequence of alternatives simultaneously nor deal with the interaction that universally exists among criteria. Furthermore, some enterprises cannot consult the best professional expert, which leads to inappropriate decisions. These reasons motivate us to contribute a novel hybrid MCDM technique called the grey fuzzy TOPSIS (FGT). It applies fuzzy measures and fuzzy integral to express and integrate the interaction among criteria, respectively. Fuzzy numbers are employed to help the experts to make more reasonable and accurate evaluations. The GCE method and the TOPSIS are combined to improve their one-sidedness. A case study of supplier evaluation of a collaborative manufacturing enterprise verifies the effectiveness of the hybrid method. The evaluation result of different methods shows that the proposed approach overcomes the shortcomings of GCE and TOPSIS. The proposed hybrid decision-making model provides a more accurate and reliable method for evaluating the fuzzy system MCDM problems with interaction criteria.

Abstract:Objective: This article introduces a novel approach called Digital Weighted Multi Criteria Decision Making (DWMCDM) that employs interval valued fuzzy sets to select the best contractor for building projects. The contractor is chosen based on the pre-qualification and bid evaluation phases. In the first phase, the distance between the actual and required skills of the significant criteria is determined, and it is then converted into digital weighted distances to identify the maximum number of criteria related to the specific project of each contractor. The second step ranks the best contractor based on the bid price and digital weighted distances. Results: The suggested technique integrates the pre-qualification and bid review phases to address project award delays and other restrictions. Finally, a real-world application is addressed to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed approach to any type of interval valued fuzzy inputs.

Abstract:Supplier selection is a multiattribute decision making (MADM) problem which contains both qualitative and quantitative factors. Supplier selection has vital importance for most companies. The aim of this paper is to provide an AHP based analytical tool for decision support enabling an effective multicriteria supplier selection process in an air conditioner seller firm under fuzziness. In this article, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) under fuzziness is employed for its permissiveness to use an evaluation scale including linguistic expressions, crisp numerical values, fuzzy numbers and range numerical values. This scale provides a more flexible evaluation compared with the other fuzzy AHP methods. In this study, the modified AHP was used in supplier selection in an air conditioner firm. Three experts evaluated the suppliers according to the proposed model and the most appropriate supplier was selected. The proposed model enables decision makers select the best supplier among supplier firms effectively. We confirm that the modified fuzzy AHP is appropriate for group decision making in supplier selection problems.

Abstract:In today's global environment, supplier selection is one of the critical strategic decisions made by supply chain management. The supplier selection process involves the evaluation of suppliers based on several criteria, including their core capabilities, price offerings, lead times, geographical proximity, data collection sensor networks, and associated risks. The ubiquitous presence of internet of things (IoT) sensors at different levels of supply chains can result in risks that cascade to the upstream end of the supply chain, making it imperative to implement a systematic supplier selection methodology. This research proposes a combinatorial approach for risk assessment in supplier selection using the failure mode effect analysis (FMEA) with hybrid analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and the preference ranking organization method for enrichment evaluation (PROMETHEE). The FMEA is used to identify the failure modes based on a set of supplier criteria. The AHP is implemented to determine the global weights for each criterion, and PROMETHEE is used to prioritize the optimal supplier based on the lowest supply chain risk. The integration of multicriteria decision making (MCDM) methods overcomes the shortcomings of the traditional FMEA and enhances the precision of prioritizing the risk priority numbers (RPN). A case study is presented to validate the combinatorial model. The outcomes indicate that suppliers were evaluated more effectively based on company chosen criteria to select a low-risk supplier over the traditional FMEA approach. This research establishes a foundation for the application of multicriteria decision-making methodology for unbiased prioritization of critical supplier selection criteria and evaluation of different supply chain suppliers.

Abstract:This paper presents an approach of fuzzy multicriteria group decision making in determining alternatives to solve the selection problem of the electrician through a competency test. Fuzzy approach is used to determine the highest priority of alternative electrician who has knowledge and ability that best fits the given parameters. Linguistic variables are presented by triangular fuzzy numbers. They are used to represent a subjective assessment of the decision-makers so that uncertainty and imprecision in the selection process can be minimized. Fuzzy approach require transforming crisp data to fuzzy numbers. Output of the best alternatives is generated by ranking method. Ranking has been made base on eight criteria which make the evaluation basis of each alternative. Ranking of the results is determined using different value of optimism index (). The fuzzy multi criteria decision making (FMCDM) calculation is using the best alternative using three value of optimism index. The result of calculation shows that the same alternative reached from different index of optimism. This alternative is the highest priority of decision making process.

Abstract:<span>Since the performances of suppliers usually fluctuate over time and are affected by environmental changes, enterprises need to evaluate suppliers in the past several periods, rather than a single period. As the environment changes, decision makers will exchange their views and influence each other. In addition, multiple decision makers are not always knowledgeable and sometimes express their preferences about suppliers using fuzzy numbers. To meet the different evaluation requirements of decision makers and analyze the influence of time factors and opinion interaction between decision makers, this paper develops a group decision making approach considering multi-period fuzzy information and opinion interaction of decision makers for supplier selection. In this approach, decision makers provide their preferences in multiple periods using generalised fuzzy numbers and the weights of different periods are determined by a mathematical programming method. The effects of opinion interaction are considered by assigning various weights to different decision makers. Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method is used to rank potential suppliers. The results of a supplier selection example show the proposed approach can select suitable suppliers by considering multi-period fuzzy information and opinion interaction.</span>

Abstract:Purpose Green supplier selection is one of the crucial activities in green supply chain management. However, limited studies have addressed the vagueness and complexities during the selection process, particularly in multi-criterion decision-making (MCDM) circumstances. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to develop a group decision model using a modified fuzzy MCDM approach for green supplier selection under a complex situation. Design/methodology/approach The proposed study develops a framework for sorting decisions in green supplier selection by using the hesitant fuzzy qualitative flexible multiple attributes method (QUALIFLEX). The synthetic consistent or inconsistent indexes were used to calculate all alternative suppliers by normalizing the hesitant fuzzy decision matrix. Findings The proposed framework has been successfully applied and illustrated in the case example of CB02 contract section in Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge project. The results show various complicated decision-making scenarios can be addressed through the proposed approach. The synthetic (in)consistent indexes are able to calculate all alternative suppliers by normalizing the hesitant fuzzy decision matrix. Originality/value The research contributes to improving accuracy and reliability decision-making processes for green supplier selection, especially under vagueness and complex situations in megaprojects.

Abstract:The conveyor system plays a vital role in improving the performance of flexible manufacturing cells (FMCs). The conveyor selection problem involves the evaluation of a set of potential alternatives based on qualitative and quantitative criteria. This paper presents an integrated multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) model of a fuzzy AHP (analytic hierarchy process) and fuzzy ARAS (additive ratio assessment) for conveyor evaluation and selection. In this model, linguistic terms represented as triangular fuzzy numbers are used to quantify experts' uncertain assessments of alternatives with respect to the criteria. The fuzzy set is then integrated into the AHP to determine the weights of the criteria. Finally, a fuzzy ARAS is used to calculate the weights of the alternatives. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model, a case study is performed of a practical example, and the results obtained demonstrate practical potential for the implementation of FMCs.

Abstract:In this paper, we present an implemented, web-based multicriteria group decision support system for solving multicriteria ranking problems by a collaborative group of decision-makers in sequential or parallel coordination mode and in a distributed and asynchronous environment. This system employs an order-based consensus model for collaborative groups that moves from consistency to consensus. The system is based on consensus measures and it has been designed to provide advice to the decision-makers to increase group consensus level while maintaining the individual consistency of each decision-maker. It is based on the use of fuzzy outranking relations to model individual and group preferences. For the exploitation of the models—formulated as a multiobjective optimization problem and solved with a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm—the system generates advice on how decision-makers should change their preferences to reach a ranking of alternatives with a high degree of consistency and consensus.

This has been already proved that none is successful for all types of projects and every type of environment. Analytic Hierarchy Process has been identified as the tool that would help in Multi Criteria Decision Making. Researchers have identified that Analytic Hierarchy Process can be used for the comparison of effort estimation of different models and techniques. But the problem with traditional Analytic Hierarchy Process is its inability to deal with the imprecision and subjectivity in the pairwise comparison process. The motive of this paper is to propose Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process, which can be used to rectify the subjectivity and imprecision of Analytic Hierarchy Process and can be used for selecting the type of Model best suited for estimating the effort for a given problem type or environment. Instead of single crisp value, Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process uses a range of values to incorporate decision maker uncertainty. From this range, decision maker can select the value that reflects his confidence and also he can specify his attitude like optimistic, pessimistic or moderate. In this work, the comparison of Analytic Hierarchy Process and Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process is concluded using a case study of selection of effort estimation model.

Abstract:Supplier selection is a strategic decision for reducing risk, maximising overall value, and establishing strong, mutually beneficial long-term relationships between the members in supply chain management. Identifying and prioritising the risks and benefits from each supplier enables managers to consider these factors and select the most suitable supplier. We propose an integrated approach for supply chain risk-benefit assessment and supplier selection by combining the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) with the fuzzy multiplicative multi-objective optimisation based on ratio analysis (MULTIMOORA). The fuzzy AHP is used to measure the importance of the supply chain risks and benefits and the fuzzy MULTIMOORA is used to rank the suppliers. We present a case study to demonstrate the applicability and exhibit the efficacy of the proposed integrated framework. We also study the uncertainty in the output of our proposed framework using sensitivity analysis.

Abstract:This article examines the significance of supplier selection in the procurement process, which has grown in prominence as a result of globalization and outsourcing. When selecting the best suppliers, supply chain managers must consider a variety of quantitative and qualitative aspects, as these have a substantial impact on supply chain performance. Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approaches can help in this process by taking into account many competing considerations. However, due to uncertainties and ambiguity, supplier selection is a complex process, and fuzzy multi-criteria decisionmaking approaches can be used to determine the best supplier for the company's key operations. This research suggests a hybrid MCDM strategy that makes use of fuzzy modeling to help with complex decision-making processes. Organizations can improve their supply chain performance by selecting the best supplier based on numerous parameters such as cost, quality, delivery time, and supplier reputation.

Abstract:The paper proposes a dynamic fuzzy multiple criteria decision making (DFMCDM) method. The method considers the integrated weight of the decision makers with the subjective and objective preference and the effect of time weight. In the proposed method, a mathematical programming model is used to determine the integrated weight, and a basic unit-interval monotonic (BUM) function based approach is used to calculate the time weight. In addition, a distance measure of membership function is introduced to effectively measure the degree of difference between the alternatives in the Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (FTOPSIS). Finally, a numerical example is introduced to illustrate the proposed method.

Abstract:When confronted with underperforming suppliers, the need to evaluate and improve supplier performance becomes apparent. However, the inherent inaccuracies in information introduce complexity, especially when subjective human judgment is involved in the supplier evaluation process. Associated with such problem, this study presents a novel methodology for supplier performance evaluation in the crumb rubber industry, integrating the Taguchi Loss Function (TLF), fuzzy Best-Worst Method (BWM), and VIKOR technique in group decision-making environment. Aimed at addressing the challenges in industries with variable supplier quality and performance, such as the crumb rubber industry in Indonesia, the methodology was empirically tested to demonstrate its practical utility. The process involved identifying evaluation criteria through literature review tailored to the needs of decision makers (DMs), applying TLF to quantify losses from supplier performance deviations, using fuzzy BWM to determine criteria weights based on the DMs judgment, and employing the VIKOR technique for comprehensive supplier ranking. The findings underscore the methodology's effectiveness in enhancing decision-making, offering a unified metric that accommodates diverse criteria and balances precise data with subjective assessments. This approach simplifies the evaluation process, particularly in situations with conflicting interests among decision-makers. Demonstrating its practical application in the crumb rubber industry, the study highlights the methodology's potential for broader industrial applicability. Future research could explore comparative analyses with other analytical methods, further establishing the methodology's robustness and adaptability in different management contexts.

The purpose of the paper is to explore the performance evaluation model. This paper develops an evaluation model based on the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process and the technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution, fuzzy TOPSIS, to help the industrial practitioners for the performance evaluation in a fuzzy environment where the vagueness and subjectivity are handled with linguistic values parameterized by triangular fuzzy numbers.
