Abstract:We prove that stably isomorphic vector bundles of rank d-1 on a smooth affine d-fold X over an algebraically closed field k are indeed isomorphic, provided d! is invertible in k. This answers an old conjecture of Suslin.

Abstract:Dumortier and Roussarie proposed a conjecture in their paper (2009, Discrete Con. Dyn. Sys., 2,723-781): For any \begin{document}$ q\in {\mathbb{N}} $\end{document} , the Abelian integrals \begin{document}$ J_{2j+1}(h) = \int_{\gamma_h}x^{2j-1}\,\mathrm dy $\end{document} , \begin{document}$ j = 0, 1, 2, \cdots, q $\end{document} , form a strict Chebyshev system on intervals \begin{document}$ h\in (0, \frac{1}{2}] $\end{document} , where \begin{document}$ \gamma_h = \{(x, y)| \mathrm e^{-2y}(y+\frac{1}{2}-x^2) = h\} $\end{document} . If this conjecture holds, then they obtain the precise upper bound of the number of limit cycles that appear near a slow-fast Hopf point of any codimension. In the present paper we develop a method to estimate the number of zeros of Abelian integrals and prove this conjecture.

Abstract:Let $Y$ be a smooth quartic double solid regarded as a degree 4 hypersurface of the weighted projective space $\mathbb{P}(1,1,1,1,2)$. We study the multiplication of Hochschild-Serre algebra of its Kuznetsov component $\mathcal{K}u(Y)$, via matrix factorization. As an application, we give a new disproof of Kuznetsov's Fano threefold conjecture.

Abstract:Abstract Let X X be a simple normal crossing (SNC) compact complex surface with trivial canonical bundle which includes triple intersections. We prove that if X X is d d -semistable, then there exists a family of smoothings in a differential geometric sense. This can be interpreted as a differential geometric analogue of the smoothability results due to Friedman, Kawamata-Namikawa, Felten-Filip-Ruddat, Chan-Leung-Ma, and others in algebraic geometry. The proof is based on an explicit construction of local smoothings around the singular locus of X X , and the first author’s existence result of holomorphic volume forms on global smoothings of X X . In particular, these volume forms are given as solutions of a nonlinear elliptic partial differential equation. As an application, we provide several examples of d d -semistable SNC complex surfaces with trivial canonical bundle including double curves, which are smoothable to complex tori, primary Kodaira surfaces, and K 3 K3 surfaces. We also provide several examples of such complex surfaces including triple points, which are smoothable to K 3 K3 surfaces.

On a Conjecture of Lan-Sheng-Zuo on Semistable Higgs Bundles: Rank 3 Case

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth projective curve of genus $g$ over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p>2$. We prove that any rank $3$ nilpotent semistable Higgs bundle $(E,\theta)$ on $X$ is a strongly semistable Higgs bundle. This gives a partially affirmative answer to a conjecture of Lan-Sheng-Zuo \cite{LanShengZuo12ii}\footnotemark[1]. In addition, we prove a tensor product theorem for strongly semistable Higgs bundles with $p$ satisfying some bounds (Theorem \ref{TensorTheorem}). From this we reprove a tensor theorem for semistable Higgs bundles on the condition that the Lan-Sheng-Zuo conjecture holds (Corollary \ref{TensorStableBundle}).

Fano fibrations and DK conjecture for relative Grassmann flips

Abstract:Given a vector bundle $\mathcal E$ on a smooth projective variety $B$, the flag bundle $\mathcal F l(1,2,\mathcal E)$ admits two projective bundle structures over the Grassmann bundles $\mathcal G r(1, \mathcal E)$ and $G r(2, \mathcal E)$. The data of a general section of a suitably defined line bundle on $\mathcal F l(1,2,\mathcal E)$ defines two varieties: a cover $X_1$ of $B$ and a fibration $X_2$ on $B$ with general fiber isomorphic to a smooth Fano variety. We construct a semiorthogonal decomposition of the derived category of $X_2$ which consists of a list of exceptional objects and a subcategory equivalent to the derived category of $X_1$. As a byproduct, we obtain a new full exceptional collection for the Fano fourfold of degree $12$ and genus $7$. Any birational map of smooth projective varieties which is resolved by blowups with exceptional divisor $\mathcal F l(1, 2, \mathcal E)$ is an instance of a so-called Grassmann flip: we prove that the DK conjecture of Bondal-Orlov and Kawamata holds for such flips. This generalizes a previous result of Leung and Xie to a relative setting.

On Hard Lefschetz Conjecture on Lawson Homology

Abstract:Friedlander and Mazur proposed a conjecture of hard Lefschetz type on Lawson homology. We shall relate this conjecture to Suslin conjecture on Lawson homology. For abelian varieties, this conjecture is shown to be equivalent to a vanishing conjecture of Beauville type on Lawson homology. For symmetric products of curves, we show that this conjecture amounts to the vanishing conjecture of Beauville type for the Jacobians of the corresponding curves. As a consequence, Suslin conjecture holds for all symmetric products of curves with genus at most 2.

Abstract:We prove that on a general hypersurface in $\mathbb{P}^N$ of degree $d$ and dimension at least $2$, if an arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay (ACM) bundle $E$ and its dual have small regularity, then any non-trivial Hodge class in $H^{n}(X, E\otimes\Omega^n_X)$, $n = \lfloor\frac{N-1}{2}\rfloor$, produces a trivial direct summand of $E$. As a consequence, we prove that there is no universal Ulrich bundle on the family of smooth hypersurfaces of degree $d\geq 3$ and dimension at least $4$. This last statement may be viewed as a Franchetta-type conjecture for Ulrich bundles on smooth hypersurfaces.

Abstract:This paper is the second in a series of three devoted to the smooth classification of simply connected elliptic surfaces. In this paper, we study the case where one of the multiple fibers has even multiplicity, and describe the moduli space of stable rank two vector bundles with the appropriate first Chern class needed to calculate Donaldson polynomials. The analysis is in many ways parallel to the analysis in the case of vector bundles of trivial determinant, but the asymmetry between the multiplicities also appears in the moduli space. In this way, the first coefficient of an appropriate Donaldson polynomial determines one of the multiplicities.

Abstract:We prove the following result: if a Qdocumentclass[12pt]{minimal}usepackage{amsmath}usepackage{wasysym}usepackage{amsfonts}usepackage{amssymb}usepackage{amsbsy}usepackage{mathrsfs}usepackage{upgreek}setlength{oddsidemargin}{-69pt}egin{document}$$,,,,,{mathbb {Q}},,,,,$$end{document}-Fano variety is uniformly K-stable, then it admits a Kähler–Einstein metric. This proves the uniform version of Yau–Tian–Donaldson conjecture for all (singular) Fano varieties with discrete automorphism groups. We achieve this by modifying Berman–Boucksom–Jonsson’s strategy in the smooth case with appropriate perturbative arguments. This perturbation approach depends on the valuative criterion and non-Archimedean estimates, and is motivated by our previous paper.
Cancellation for $(G,n)$-complexes and the Swan finiteness obstruction

Abstract:In previous work, we related homotopy types of finite $(G,n)$-complexes when $G$ has periodic cohomology to projective $\mathbb{Z} G$-modules representing the Swan finiteness obstruction. We use this to determine when $X \vee S^n \simeq Y \vee S^n$ implies $X \simeq Y$ for finite $(G,n)$-complexes $X$ and $Y$, and give lower bounds on the number of homotopically distinct pairs when this fails. The proof involves constructing projective $\mathbb{Z} G$-modules as lifts of locally free modules over orders in products of quaternion algebras, whose existence follows from the Eichler mass formula. In the case $n=2$, difficulties arise which lead to a new approach to finding a counterexample to Wall's D2 problem.

Abstract:Let $X\subseteq{\mathbb P}^{n+1}$ be an integral hypersurface of degree $d$. We show that each locally Cohen-Macaulay instanton sheaf $\mathcal E$ on $X$ with respect to $\mathcal O_X\otimes\mathcal O_{\mathbb P^{n+1}}(1)$ in the sense of Definition 1.3 in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2205.04767" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2205.04767">arXiv:2205.04767</a> [math.AG] yields the existence of Steiner bundles $\mathcal G$ and $\mathcal F$ on $\mathbb P^{n+1}$ of the same rank $r$ and a morphism $\varphi\colon \mathcal G(-1)\to\mathcal F^\vee$ such that the form defining $X$ to the power $\mathrm{rk}(\mathcal E)$ is exactly $\det(\varphi)$. We inspect several examples for low values of $d$, $n$ and $\mathrm{rk}(\mathcal E)$. In particular, we show that the form defining a smooth integral surface in $\mathbb P^3$ is the pfaffian of some skew-symmetric morphism $\varphi\colon \mathcal F(-1)\to\mathcal F^\vee$, where $\mathcal F$ is a suitable Steiner bundle on $\mathbb P^3$ of sufficiently large even rank.

Abstract:Given a smooth quasi-projective complex algebraic variety $\mathcal{S}$, we prove that there are only finitely many Hodge-generic non-isotrivial families of smooth projective hypersurfaces over $\mathcal{S}$ of degree $d$ in $\mathbb{P}_{\mathbb C}^{n+1}$. We prove that the finiteness is uniform in $\mathcal{S}$ and we give examples where the result is sharp. We also prove similar results for certain complete intersections in $\mathbb{P}_{\mathbb C}^{n+1}$ of higher codimension and more generally for algebraic varieties whose moduli space admits a period map that satisfies the infinitesimal Torelli theorem.

Abstract:We prove that the alpha invariant of a quasi-smooth Fano 3-fold weighted hypersurface of index $1$ is greater than or equal to $1/2$. Combining this with the result of Stibitz and Zhuang \cite{SZ19} on a relation between birational superrigidity and K-stability, we prove the K-stability of a birationally superrigid quasi-smooth Fano 3-fold weighted hypersurfaces of index $1$.

Abstract:Under the framework of dynamics on normal projective varieties by Kawamata, Nakayama and Zhang \cite{Kawamata85,Nakayama10,NZ09,NZ10,Zhang16}, Hu and the author \cite{HL21}, we may reduce Kawaguchi-Silverman conjecture for automorphisms $f$ on normal projective threefolds $X$ with either the canonical divisor $K_X$ is trivial or negative Kodaira dimension to the following two case: (i) $f$ is a primitively automorphism of a weak Calabi-Yau threefold (ii) $X$ is a rationally connected threefold. And we prove Kawaguchi-Silverman conjecture is true for automorphisms of normal projective varieties $X$ with the irregularity $q(X)\ge\dim X-1$. Finally, we discuss Kawaguchi-Silverman conjecture on normal projective varieties with Picard number two.

Boundedness of klt complements on Fano fibrations over surfaces

Abstract:Let $(X,B)$ be an $\epsilon$-lc pair of dimension $d$ with a closed point $x\in X$. Birkar conjectured that there is an effective Cartier divisor $H$ passing through $x$ such that $(X,B+tH)$ is lc near $x$, where $t$ is a positive real number depending only on $d,\epsilon$. We prove that Birkar's conjecture is equivalent to Shokurov's conjecture on boundedness of klt complements on Fano fibrations and we confirm Birkar's conjecture in dimension 2. As a corollary, we prove the boundedness of klt complements on Fano fibrations over surfaces.

Perverse sheaves on varieties with large fundamental groups

Abstract:We conjecture that any perverse sheaf on a compact aspherical Kähler manifold has non-negative Euler characteristic. This extends the Singer-Hopf conjecture in the Kähler setting. We verify the stronger conjecture when the manifold X has non-positive holomorphic bisectional curvature. We also show that the conjecture holds when X is projective and in possession of a faithful semi-simple rigid local system. The first result is proved by expressing the Euler characteristic as an intersection number involving the characteristic cycle, and then using the curvature conditions to deduce non-negativity. For the second result, we have that the local system underlies a complex variation of Hodge structure. We then deduce the desired inequality from the curvature properties of the image of the period map.

Abstract:Let $X$ denote the `conifold smoothing', the symplectic Weinstein manifold which is the complement of a smooth conic in $T^*S^3$, or equivalently the plumbing of two copies of $T^*S^3$ along a Hopf link. Let $Y$ denote the `conifold resolution', by which we mean the complement of a smooth divisor in $\mathcal{O}(-1) \oplus \mathcal{O}(-1) \to \mathbb{P}^1$. We prove that the compactly supported symplectic mapping class group of $X$ splits off a copy of an infinite rank free group, in particular is infinitely generated; and we classify spherical objects in the bounded derived category $D(Y)$ (the three-dimensional `affine $A_1$-case'). Our results build on work of Chan-Pomerleano-Ueda and Toda, and both theorems make essential use of working on the `other side' of the mirror.

Abstract:Consider a smooth, projective family of canonically polarized varieties over a smooth, quasi-projective base manifold Y, all defined over the complex numbers. It has been conjectured that the family is necessarily isotrivial if Y is special in the sense of Campana. We prove the conjecture when Y is a surface or threefold. The proof uses sheaves of symmetric differentials associated to fractional boundary divisors on log canonical spaces, as introduced by Campana in his theory of Orbifoldes Geometriques. We discuss a weak variant of the Harder-Narasimhan Filtration and prove a version of the Bogomolov-Sommese Vanishing Theorem that take the additional fractional positivity along the boundary into account. A brief, but self-contained introduction to Campana's theory is included for the reader's convenience.
