Abstract:Although detailed descriptions of the possible types of behaviour inside periodic Fatou components have been known for over 100 years, a classification of wandering domains has only recently been given. Recently, simply connected wandering domains were classified into nine possible types and examples of escaping wandering domains of each of these types were constructed. Here we consider the case of oscillating wandering domains, for which only six of these types are possible. We use a new technique based on approximation theory to construct examples of all six types of oscillating simply connected wandering domains. This requires delicate arguments since oscillating wandering domains return infinitely often to a bounded part of the plane. Our technique is inspired by that used by Eremenko and Lyubich to construct the first example of an oscillating wandering domain, but with considerable refinements which enable us to show that the wandering domains are bounded, to specify the degree of the mappings between wandering domains and to give precise descriptions of the dynamical behaviour of these mappings.

Abstract:The issue of whether an analytic function has wandering domains has long been of interest in complex dynamics. Sullivan proved in 1985 that rational maps do not have wandering domains. On the other hand, several transcendental entire functions have wandering domains. Using recent results on the relationship between Fatou components and the postsingular set, we find a new family of transcendental entire functions that does not have wandering domains. We also prove that the Julia set of a certain subfamily is the whole plane.

Abstract:We show that wandering domains can exist in the Fatou set of a polynomial type quasiregular mapping of the plane. We also give an example of a quasiregular mapping of the plane, with an essential singularity at infinity, which has a sequence of wandering domains contained in a bounded part of the plane. This contrasts with the situation in the analytic case, where wandering domains are impossible for polynomials and, for transcendental entire functions, the existence of wandering domains in a bounded part of the plane has been an open problem for many years.

Abstract:We introduce discrete and p-adic continuous versions of the FitzHugh-Nagumo system on the one-dimensional p-adic unit ball. We provide criteria for the existence of Turing patterns. We present extensive simulations of some of these systems. The simulations show that the Turing patterns are traveling waves in the p-adic unit ball.

Abstract:In this paper it is shown that for a transcendental entire map with certain properties on the distribution of either its zeros, or points in its periodic and preperiodic Fatou domains, all of its Fatou components are simply connected, the union of its Julia set and is connected and the Julia set is uniformly perfect. Moreover, it is shown that any transcendental entire map that interpolates the 3n+1 problem has only simply connected Fatou components and its Julia set is uniformly perfect.

Abstract:We investigate some topological properties of Julia components, that is, connected components of the Julia set, of a transcendental entire function f with a multiply-connected wandering domain. If C is a Julia component with a bounded orbit, then we show that there exists a polynomial P such that C is homeomorphic to a Julia component of the Julia set of P . Furthermore if C is wandering, then C is a buried singleton component. Also we show that under some dynamical conditions, every such C is full and a buried component. The key for our proof is to show that some iterate of f can be regarded as a polynomial-like map on a suitable arbitrarily large bounded topological disk. As an application of this result, we show that a transcendental entire function having a wandering domain with a bounded orbit cannot have multiply-connected wandering domains.

Abstract:A major open question in transcendental dynamics asks if it is possible for points in a wandering domain to have bounded orbits, and more strongly, for a wandering domain to iterate only in a bounded domain. In this paper we give a partial answer to this question, by constructing a bounded wandering domain that spends, in a precise sense, nearly all of its time iterating in a bounded domain. This is in strong contrast to all previously known examples of wandering domains.

Abstract:We study the geometry of simply connected wandering domains for entire functions and we prove that every bounded connected regular open set, whose closure has a connected complement, is a wandering domain of some entire function. In particular such domain can be realized as an escaping or an oscillating wandering domain. As a consequence we obtain that every Jordan curve is the boundary of a wandering Fatou component of some entire function.

Using homological methods, we give a criterion of automatic extension of (generalized) semi-invariant distributions. Based on the meromorphic continuations of Igusa zeta integrals, we give another criteria with purely algebraic geometric conditions, on the extension of generalized semi-invariant distributions.

Abstract:While the dynamics of transcendental entire functions in periodic Fatou components and in multiply connected wandering domains are well understood, the dynamics in simply connected wandering domains have so far eluded classification. We give a detailed classification of the dynamics in such wandering domains in terms of the hyperbolic distances between iterates and also in terms of the behaviour of orbits in relation to the boundaries of the wandering domains. In establishing these classifications, we obtain new results of wider interest concerning non-autonomous forward dynamical systems of holomorphic self maps of the unit disk. We also develop a new general technique for constructing examples of bounded, simply connected wandering domains with prescribed internal dynamics, and a criterion to ensure that the resulting boundaries are Jordan curves. Using this technique, based on approximation theory, we show that all of the nine possible types of simply connected wandering domain resulting from our classifications are indeed realizable.

Abstract:In this paper we examine an orbit of simply connected wandering domains for the function ${f(z) = z\cos z+2\pi}$. They are noteworthy in that they are non-congruent but arise from a simple closed form function. Moreover, the shape of the wandering domains, suitably scaled, converges in the Hausdorff metric to the filled-in parabolic basin of the quadratic ${z^2+c}$ with $c=\tfrac{1}{4}$, commonly named the ``cauliflower''. We complete our analysis by classifying the wandering domains within the ninefold framework in \cite{benini+2021}, finding they are contracting and the diameters of the wandering domains tend to zero. To conclude we propose an expansion of the analysis to a wider family of functions and discuss some potential results.

Abstract:We construct polynomial automorphisms with wandering Fatou components. The four-dimensional automorphisms $H$ lie in a one-parameter family, depending on the parameter $\delta \in \mathbb C \setminus \{0\}$, and as $\delta \rightarrow 0$ the automorphisms degenerate to the two-dimensional polynomial map $P$ constructed in Astorg et al (Ann. of Math., 2016). Our main result states that if $P$ has a wandering domain, then $H$ does too for $\delta$ sufficiently small.

Abstract:We study the behaviour of a transcendental entire map $ f\colon \mathbb{C}\to\mathbb{C} $ on an unbounded invariant Fatou component $ U $, assuming that infinity is accessible from $ U $. It is well-known that $ U $ is simply connected. Hence, by means of a Riemann map $ \varphi\colon\mathbb{D}\to U $ and the associated inner function, the boundary of $ U $ is described topologically in terms of the disjoint union of clusters sets, each of them consisting of one or two connected components in $ \mathbb{C} $. Moreover, under more precise assumptions on the distribution of singular values, it is proven that periodic and escaping boundary points are dense in $ \partial U $, being all periodic boundary points accessible from $ U $. Finally, under the same conditions, the set of singularities of $ g $ is shown to have zero Lebesgue measure.

Abstract:One of the fundamental distinctions in McMullen and Sullivan's description of the Teichmüller space of a complex dynamical system is between discrete and indiscrete grand orbit relations. We investigate these on the Fatou set of transcendental entire maps and provide criteria to distinguish between the two types. Furthermore, we show that discrete and indiscrete grand orbit relations may coexist non-trivially in a wandering domain, a phenomenon which does not occur for any other type of Fatou component. One of the tools used is a novel quasiconformal surgery technique of independent interest.

Abstract:Let f be a transcendental map, and let U be an attracting or parabolic basin, or a doubly parabolic Baker domain. Assume U is simply connected. Then, we prove that periodic points are dense in the boundary of U, under certain hypothesis on the postsingular set. This generalizes a result by F. Przytycki and A. Zdunik for rational maps. Our proof uses techniques from measure theory, ergodic theory, conformal analysis, and inner functions. In particular, a result on the distortion of inner functions near the unit circle is provided, which is of independent interest.

Abstract: Wandering Fatou components were recently constructed by Astorg et al for higher dimensional holomorphic maps on projective spaces. Their examples are polynomial skew products with a parabolic invariant line. In this paper we study this wandering domain problem for polynomial skew product $f$ with an attracting invariant line $L$ (which is the more common case). We show that if $f$ is unicritical (in the sense that the critical curve has a unique transversal intersection with $L$), then every Fatou component of $f$ in the basin of $L$ is an extension of a one-dimensional Fatou component of $f|_L$. As a corollary there is no wandering Fatou component. We will also discuss the multicritical case under additional assumptions.
