Abstract:We study local asymptotics for the spectral projector associated to a Schrödinger operator $-\hbar^2\Delta+V$ on $\mathbb{R}^n$ in the semiclassical limit as $\hbar\to0$. We prove local uniform convergence of the rescaled integral kernel of this projector towards a universal model, inside the classically allowed region as well as on its boundary. This implies universality of microscopic fluctuations for the corresponding free fermions (determinantal) point processes, both in the bulk and around regular boundary points. Our results apply for a general class of smooth potentials in arbitrary dimension $n\ge 1$. These results are complemented by studying both macroscopic and mesoscopic fluctuations of the point process. We obtain tail bounds for macroscopic linear statistics and, provided $n\geq 2$, a central limit theorem for both macroscopic and mesoscopic linear statistics in the bulk.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the asymptotic behavior and universality on the local scale of the spectral projection operators of the free fermion system and the associated Schrödinger operator in the semi - classical limit. Specifically, the author studies the properties of the spectral projection operator of the Schrödinger operator \(H_\hbar = -\hbar^2 \Delta + V\) at different scales when the Planck constant \(\hbar\) approaches 0. The main objectives include: 1. **Universality on the microscopic scale**: - Study the local uniform convergence of the spectral projection operator inside and on the boundary of the classically allowed region. - Prove that the fluctuations of the free fermion point process on the microscopic scale are universal, whether for bulk or boundary points. 2. **Fluctuations on the macroscopic and mesoscopic scales**: - Study the fluctuations of the point process on the macroscopic and mesoscopic scales and give estimates of the tail bounds. - For the case of \(n \geq 2\), prove the central limit theorem (CLT) of the macroscopic and mesoscopic linear statistics in the bulk. 3. **Asymptotic behavior under specific conditions**: - By introducing appropriate assumptions, study the asymptotic behavior of the spectral projection operator for a specific potential function \(V\). - Provide a detailed analysis of the convergence and volatility of the point process at different scales. ### Overview of main results 1. **Point - wise Weyl law and macroscopic fluctuations**: - Theorem I.1: In the semi - classical limit, the random probability measure \(N^{-1}X\) satisfies the law of large numbers, and the convergence rate is exponential. - Theorem I.2: In the bulk, the fluctuations of the linear statistics have Gaussian tails, and when \(n\geq 2\), the distributions of these statistics converge to the Gaussian distribution. 2. **Universality on the microscopic scale**: - Theorem II.1: In the bulk, the rescaled kernel \(K_{x_0,\epsilon}\) converges to a universal limit \(K_{\text{bulk}}\) independent of the potential function \(V\). - Theorem II.2: On the boundary, the rescaled kernel \(K_{x_0,\epsilon}\) converges to another universal limit \(K_{\text{edge}}\). 3. **Gaussian field on the mesoscopic scale**: - Theorem III.1: On the mesoscopic scale, the distribution of the linear statistics converges to a Gaussian field with \(H^{1/2}\) covariance. ### Methods and assumptions - **Assumptions**: - The potential function \(V\) is locally integrable, bounded from below, and tends to positive infinity at infinity. - \((\mu, V)\) satisfies the assumption (H), that is, there exists \(M\in\mathbb{R}\) such that \(\{V\leq M\}\) is a compact set and \(V\in C^\infty(\{V < M\},\mathbb{R})\). - **Methods**: - Use semi - classical analysis methods to study the asymptotic behavior of the spectral projection operator of the Schrödinger operator at different scales. - By analyzing the properties of the quantum propagator \(e^{itH_\hbar/\hbar}\), derive the asymptotic form of the spectral projection operator. ### Conclusion This paper, through rigorous mathematical analysis, proves the universality and fluctuation properties of the free fermion system at different scales. These results not only deepen the understanding of the free fermion system but also provide an important theoretical basis for research in related fields.
