Abstract:Nonlinear evolution equations are used to describe such nonlinear phenomena as the solitons, travelling waves and breathers in fluid mechanics, plasma physics and optics. In this paper, we investigate a (2+1)-dimensional generalized nonlinear evolution system in a fluid or a plasma. Via the Lie symmetry analysis, we acquire the Lie point symmetry generators and Lie symmetry groups of that system. Via the optimal system method, we derive the optimal system of the 1-dimensional subalgebras. Based on the symmetry generators in that optimal system, we give some symmetry reductions for the (2+1)-dimensional generalized nonlinear evolution system. Finally, via those symmetry reductions, we acquire some soliton, rational-type and power-series solutions.

Abstract:The multi-component nonlinear Schrödinger equations (MNLS) are derived by extending the single-component nonlinear Schrödinger equation to multiple interacting fields. These equations often describe the dynamics of wave packets in quantum mechanics or nonlinear optics. In this paper, we investigate MNLS equations via the Lie symmetry method. The Lie infinitesimal symmetries of the MNLS equations are derived by solving recursive determining equations, and the symmetry reductions of the equations are given by using symmetry variables. Moreover, some interesting explicit solutions for the equations are constructed. Finally, the conservation laws of the MNLS equations are obtained utilizing Ibragimov's method with detailed derivation.

Abstract:We suggest the method for group classification of evolution equations admitting nonlocal symmetries which are associated with a given evolution equation possessing nontrivial Lie symmetry. We apply this method to second-order evolution equations in one spatial variable invariant under Lie algebras of the dimension up to three. As a result, we construct the broad families of new nonlinear evolution equations possessing nonlocal symmetries which in principle cannot be obtained within the classical Lie approach.

Abstract:For pt.I see ibid., vol.21, p.1493 (1988). The authors obtain group-invariant solutions of the non-linear equation i psi t+ Delta psi =a0 psi +a1 psi mod psi mod 2+a2 psi mod psi mod 4 for which the symmetry group was previously shown to be the extended Galilei group for a1a2 not=0 and the extended Galilei-similitude group for a1=0 or a2=0. They use the symmetry subgroups to reduce the equation to ordinary differential equations which are solved, whenever possible, with the help of a singularity analysis. Solutions are obtained in terms of elementary functions, Jacobi elliptic functions and Painleve transcendents.

Abstract:We consider higher symmetries and operator symmetries of linear partial differential equations. The higher symmetries form a Lie algebra, and operator ones form an associative algebra. The relationship between these symmetries is established. We show that symmetries of linear equations sometimes generate symmetries of nonlinear ones. New symmetries of two-dimensional stationary equations of gas dynamics are found.

Abstract:The basic idea of Lie symmetry analysis, LSA, is to find the similarity solutions, invariant solutions and the reduction of order of non-linear PDEs that are formed under a local one-parameter Lie group of transformations of dependent and independent variables. Sophus Lie was a Norwegian mathematician whose work played fundamental role for attaining the solutions of non-linear PDEs and their systems by following a certain algorithm which is comparatively more easy than other complex methods. In this article, LSA is applied for further three different new cases of non-linear short pulse equation (SPE). We in fact obtain invariant solutions and reductions under the one-parameter Lie group of transformations. Then we derive traveling wave solutions for the first case of SPE by sine-cosine method.

Abstract:Within the framework of inverse Lie problem, we give some non-trivial examples of coupled Lie remarkable equations, \textit{i.e.}, classes of differential equations that are in correspondence with their Lie point symmetries. In particular, we determine hierarchies of second order partial differential equations uniquely characterized by affine transformations of $\mathbb{R}^{n+m}$, and a system of two third order partial differential equations in two independent variables uniquely determined by the Lie algebra of projective transformations of $\mathbb{R}^4$.

Abstract:We study the application of generalized symmetry for reducing nonlinear partial differential equations. We construct the ansatzes for dependent variable $u$ which reduce the scalar partial differential equation with two independent variables to systems of ordinary differential equations. The operators of Lie-B\"acklund symmetry of the second order ordinary differential equation are used. We apply the method to nonlinear evolutionary equations and find solutions which cannot be obtained in the framework of classical Lie approach. The method is also applicable to partial differential equations which are not restricted to evolution type ones. We construct the solution of nonlinear hyperbolic equation depending on an arbitrary smooth function on one variable. We study also the correlation between the dimension of symmetry Lie algebra and possibility of constructing non-invariant solutions to the equation under study.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a fourth‐order nonlinear diffusion partial differential equation, depending on two arbitrary functions. First, we perform an analysis of the symmetry reductions for this parabolic partial differential equation by applying the Lie symmetry method. The invariance property of a partial differential equation under a Lie group of transformations yields the infinitesimal generators. By using this invariance condition, we present a complete classification of the Lie point symmetries for the different forms of the functions that the partial differential equation involves. Afterwards, the optimal systems of one‐dimensional subalgebras for each maximal Lie algebra are determined, by computing previously the commutation relations, with the Lie bracket operator, and the adjoint representation. Next, the reductions to ordinary differential equations are derived from the optimal systems of one‐dimensional subalgebras. Furthermore, we study travelling wave reductions depending on the form of the two arbitrary functions of the original equation. Some travelling wave solutions are obtained, such as solitons, kinks and periodic waves.

Abstract:The Lie symmetry analysis for the study of a 1+n fourth-order Schrödinger equation inspired by the modification of the deformation algebra in the presence of a minimum length is applied. Specifically, we perform a detailed classification for the scalar field potential function where non-trivial Lie symmetries exist and simplify the Schrödinger equation. Then, a qualitative analysis allows for the reduced ordinary differential equation to be analysed to understand the asymptotic dynamics.

Abstract:Lie symmetry analysis is one of the powerful tools to analyze nonlinear ordinary differential equations. We review the effectiveness of this method in terms of various symmetries. We present the method of deriving Lie point symmetries, contact symmetries, hidden symmetries, nonlocal symmetries, $\lambda$-symmetries, adjoint symmetries and telescopic vector fields of a second-order ordinary differential equation. We also illustrate the algorithm involved in each method by considering a nonlinear oscillator equation as an example. The connections between (i) symmetries and integrating factors and (ii) symmetries and integrals are also discussed and illustrated through the same example. The interconnections between some of the above symmetries, that is (i) Lie point symmetries and $\lambda$-symmetries and (ii) exponential nonlocal symmetries and $\lambda$-symmetries are also discussed. The order reduction procedure is invoked to derive the general solution of the second-order equation.

Abstract:74J30The maximal group of Lie point symmetries of a system of nonlinear equations used in geophysical fluid dynamics is presented. The Lie algebra of this group is infinite-dimensional and involves three arbitrary functions of time. The invariant solution under the rotation and dilation is constructed. Qualitative analysis of the invariant solution is provided and the energy of this solution is presented.

Abstract:In this manuscript, we investigate the (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear wave equation in liquid with gas bubbles. It describes the dynamics of nonlinear waves in hydrodynamics. Liquids with gas bubbles are commonly seen in natural science, engineering, medical science and daily life. The Lie symmetry analysis is used to investigate its vector fields and optimal systems. Moreover, the symmetry reductions and invariant solutions of the equation are obtained based on the optimal systems. Finally, we obtained the exact solutions of (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear wave equation. We showed the physical explanation of obtained solutions by three-dimensional graphically. These newly constructed solutions play an important role in mathematical analysis and other various branches of applied sciences.

Abstract:Nonlinear boundary value problems (BVPs) by means of the classical Lie symmetry method are studied. A new definition of Lie invariance for BVPs is proposed by the generalization of existing those on much wider class of BVPs. A class of two-dimensional nonlinear boundary value problems, modeling the process of melting and evaporation of metals, is studied in details. Using the definition proposed, all possible Lie symmetries and the relevant reductions (with physical meaning) to BVPs for ordinary differential equations are constructed. An example how to construct exact solution of the problem with correctly-specified coefficients is presented and compared with the results of numerical simulations published earlier.

Conservation Laws for the Nonlinear Klein-Gordon Equation in (1+1)-, (2+1), and (3+1)-dimensions

Abstract:We study soliton solutions to the Klein-Gordon equation via Lie symmetries and the travelling-wave ansatz. It is shown, by taking a linear combination of the spatial and temporal Lie point symmetries, that soliton solutions naturally exist, and the resulting field lies in the complex plane. We normalize the field over a finite spatial interval, and thereafter, specify one of the integration constants in terms of the other. Solutions to a specific type of nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation are studied via the sine-cosine method, and a real soliton wave is obtained. Lastly, the multiplier method is used to construct conservation laws for this particular nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation in (3 + 1)-dimensions.

Abstract:We analyse two classes of $(1+2)$ evolution equations which are of special interest in Financial Mathematics, namely the Two-dimensional Black-Scholes Equation and the equation for the Two-factor Commodities Problem. Our approach is that of Lie Symmetry Analysis. We study these equations for the case in which they are autonomous and for the case in which the parameters of the equations are unspecified functions of time. For the autonomous Black-Scholes Equation we find that the symmetry is maximal and so the equation is reducible to the $(1+2)$ Classical Heat Equation. This is not the case for the nonautonomous equation for which the number of symmetries is submaximal. In the case of the two-factor equation the number of symmetries is submaximal in both autonomous and nonautonomous cases. When the solution symmetries are used to reduce each equation to a $(1+1)$ equation, the resulting equation is of maximal symmetry and so equivalent to the $(1+1)$ Classical Heat Equation.

Abstract:We present a complete algebraic classification of the Lie symmetries for generalized Zoomeron equations. For the generalized 1+1 and 2+1 Zoomeron equations we solve the Lie symmetry conditions in order to constrain the free functions of the equations. We find that the differential equations of our consideration admit the same number of Lie symmetries with the non-generalized equations. The admitted Lie symmetries form the Lie algebras $2A_{1}$, $A_{3,3}$ $\ $for the 1+1 generalized Zoomeron equation, and the $% A_{4,5}^{ab}\,$, $3A_{1}\otimes _{s}2A_{1}$ in the case of the 2+1 generalized Zoomeron equation. The one-dimensional optimal system is constructed for the two equations and similarity solutions are derived.\ The similarity transformation lead to the derivation of kink solutions. Indeed, the similarity exact solutions determined in this work are asymptotic solutions near to the singular behaviour of the kink behaviour.

Noether's theorem and Lie symmetries for time-dependent Hamilton-Lagrange systems

Abstract:Noether and Lie symmetry analyses based on point transformations that depend on time and spatial coordinates will be reviewed for a general class of time-dependent Hamiltonian systems. The resulting symmetries are expressed in the form of generators whose time-dependent coefficients follow as solutions of sets of ordinary differential (``auxiliary'') equations. The interrelation between the Noether and Lie sets of auxiliary equations will be elucidated. The auxiliary equations of the Noether approach will be shown to admit invariants for a much broader class of potentials, compared to earlier studies. As an example, we work out the Noether and Lie symmetries for the time-dependent Kepler system. The Runge-Lenz vector of the time-independent Kepler system will be shown to emerge as a Noether invariant if we adequately interpret the pertaining auxiliary equation. Furthermore, additional nonlocal invariants and symmetries of the Kepler system will be isolated by identifying further solutions of the auxiliary equations that depend on the explicitly known solution path of the equations of motion. Showing that the invariants remain unchanged under the action of different symmetry operators, we demonstrate that a unique correlation between a symmetry transformation and an invariant does not exist.
