Abstract:A characterization of unconditional convergent series is given for the case of sequentially complete locally convex spaces. From it we show that if E is a barrelled space with continuous dual E', then (E', beta(E', E)) contains no copy of (c(0), parallel to.parallel to(infinity)) if and only if every continuous linear operator T : E --> l(1) is both compact and sequentially compact.

Abstract:Let (X, tau(1)) and (Y, tau(2)) be two Hausdorff locally convex spaces with continuous duals X, and Y', respectively, L (X, Y) be the space of all continuous linear operators from X into Y, K (X, Y) be the space of all compact operators of L (X, Y). Let WOT and UOT be the weak operator topology and uniform operator topology on K (X, Y), respectively. In this paper, we characterize a full-invariant property of K (X, Y); that is, if the sequence space X has the signed-weak gliding hump property, then each; lambda-multiplier WOT-convergent series Sigma(i) T-i in K(X, Y) must be X-multiplier convergent with respect to all topologies between WOT and UOT if and only if each continuous linear operator T: (X, tau(1)) --> or (lambda(beta), sigma(lambda(beta),lambda)) is compact. Characterizing function spaces which have the property (B) of Banakh

Abstract:A topological space $Y$ has the property (B) of Banakh if there is a countable family $\{A_n:n\in \mathbb{N}\}$ of closed nowhere dense subsets of $Y$ absorbing all compact subsets of $Y$. In this note we show that the space $C_p(X)$ of continuous real-valued functions on a Tychonoff space $X$ with the topology of pointwise convergence, fails to satisfy the property (B) if and only if the space $X$ has the following property $(\kappa)$: every sequence of disjoint finite subsets of $X$ has a subsequence with point--finite open expansion. Additionally, we provide an analogous characterization for the compact--open topology on $C(X)$. Finally, we give examples of Tychonoff spaces $X$ whose all bounded subsets are finite, yet $X$ fails to have the property $(\kappa)$. This answers a question of Tkachuk.

Abstract:A space is called Dieudonné complete if it is complete relative to the maximal uniform structure compatible with its topology. In this paper, we investigated when the function space $C(X,Y)$ of all continuous functions from a topological space $X$ into a uniform space $Y$ with the topology of uniform convergence on a family of subsets of $X$ is Dieudonné complete. Also we proved a generalization of the Eberlein-Šmulian theorem to the class of Banach spaces.

Abstract:We study the question for which Tychonoff spaces $X$ and locally convex spaces $E$ the space $C_p(X,E)$ of continuous $E$-valued functions on $X$ contains a complemented copy of the space $(c_0)_p=\{x\in\mathbb{R}^\omega\colon x(n)\to0\}$, both endowed with the pointwise topology. We provide a positive answer for a vast class of spaces, extending classical theorems of Cembranos, Freniche, and Domański and Drewnowski, proved for the case of Banach and Fréchet spaces $C_k(X,E)$. Also, for given infinite Tychonoff spaces $X$ and $Y$, we show that $C_p(X,C_p(Y))$ contains a complemented copy of $(c_0)_p$ if and only if any of the spaces $C_p(X)$ and $C_p(Y)$ contains such a subspace.

Abstract:Let $X$ and $Y$ be metrizable spaces and suppose that there exists a uniformly continuous surjection $T: C_{p}(X) \to C_{p}(Y)$ (resp., $T: C_{p}^*(X) \to C_{p}^*(Y)$), where $C_{p}(X)$ (resp., $C_{p}^*(X)$) denotes the space of all real-valued continuous (resp., continuous and bounded) functions on $X$ endowed with the pointwise convergence topology. We show that if additionally $T$ is an inversely bounded mapping and $X$ has some dimensional-like property $\mathcal P$, then so does $Y$. For example, this is true if $\mathcal P$ is one of the following properties: zero-dimensionality, countable-dimensionality or strong countable-dimensionality. Also, we consider other properties $\mathcal P$: of being a scattered, or a strongly $\sigma$-scattered space, or being a $\Delta_1$-space (see [17]). Our results strengthen and extend several results from [6], [13], [17].

Universal properties of spaces of generalized functions

Abstract:By means of several examples, we motivate that universal properties are the simplest way to solve a given mathematical problem, explaining in this way why they appear everywhere in mathematics. In particular, we present the co-universal property of Schwartz distributions, as the simplest way to have derivatives of continuous functions, Colombeau algebra as the simplest quotient algebra where representatives of zero are infinitesimal, and generalized smooth functions as the universal way to associate set-theoretical maps of non-Archimedean numbers defined by nets of smooth functions (e.g. regularizations of distributions) and having arbitrary derivatives. Each one of these properties yields a characterization up to isomorphisms of the corresponding space. The paper requires only the notions of category, functor, natural transformation and Schwartz's distributions, and introduces the notion of universal solution using a simple and non-abstract language.

Abstract:We show that if X is a Tychonoff metacompact weakly pseudocompact countably sieve-complete space then X is Čech-complete. A metric space X is Čech-complete if and only if X is Telgársky complete. Then it follows that an Oxtoby complete metric space is not necessarily Telgársky complete. This answers Question 11.1 in [8] . We give an internal characterization of subgroups of products of first-countable semitopological groups which are paracompact σ -spaces. We also discuss some properties of regular ω -balanced, locally ω -good semitopological groups with a q -point, property (w⁎) and Sm(G)≤ω . We finally give a sufficient condition under which a semitopological group is topologically isomorphic to a subgroup of a product of first-countable M1 -semitopological groups.

Abstract:For a topological space X, let (RX)s := (RX,Ts) be the cartesian product of |X| copies of the real line R with the topology of the uniform convergence on separable subsets of X. In this article we analyze the subspace C(X) of (RX)s of all real-valued continuous functions on X, denoted by Cs(X). We determine when Cs(X) is dense and when is closed in (RX)s, and we obtain some results about the Baire property in Cs(X). Finally, we determine the cellularity of Cs([0,{\alpha}]) where [0,{\alpha}] is the space of ordinal numbers belonging to {\alpha} + 1 with its usual order topology.

A representation of sup-completion

Abstract:It was showed by Donner in 1982 that every order complete vector lattice $X$ may be embedded into a cone $X^s$, called the sup-completion of $X$. We show that if one represents the universal completion of $X$ as $C^\infty(K)$, then $X^s$ is the set of all continuous functions from $K$ to $[-\infty,\infty]$ that dominate some element of $X$. This provides a functional representation of $X^s$, as well as an easy alternative proof of its existence.

Abstract:A topological space (X, tau) is a D-space if for every function phi: X -> tau with x is an element of phi(x) for each x is an element of X, {phi(x) : x is an element of F} covers X for some closed discrete subset F of X. The Michael line M, one of the most important elementary examples in general topology, is the Euclidean space IR isolating the irrationals. In this note we show that (1) the minimal dense linearly ordered extension of M is hereditarily paracompact, but not monotonically D; (2) the minimal closed linearly ordered extension of M is monotonically D; (3) if the space X is a D-space (resp., a monotone D-space), then so is its Alexandroff duplicate space A(X) and thus A(M) is monotonically D.

Abstract:We consider uniformly continuous surjections between $C_p(X)$ and $C_p(Y)$ (resp, $C_p^*(X)$ and $C_p^*(Y$)) and show that if $X$ has some dimensional-like properties, then so does $Y$. In particular, we prove that if $T:C_p(X)\to C_p(Y)$ is a continuous linear surjection, then $\dim Y=0$ if $\dim X=0$. This provides a positive answer to a question raised by Kawamura-Leiderman \cite[Problem 3.1]{kl}.

Continuous Domains for Function Spaces Using Spectral Compactification

Abstract:We introduce a continuous domain for function spaces over topological spaces which are not core-compact. Notable examples of such topological spaces include the real line with the upper limit topology, which is used in solution of initial value problems with temporal discretization, and various infinite dimensional Banach spaces which are ubiquitous in functional analysis and solution of partial differential equations. If a topological space $\mathbb{X}$ is not core-compact and $\mathbb{D}$ is a non-singleton bounded-complete domain, the function space $[\mathbb{X} \to \mathbb{D}]$ is not a continuous domain. To construct a continuous domain, we consider a spectral compactification $\mathbb{Y}$ of $\mathbb{X}$ and relate $[\mathbb{X} \to \mathbb{D}]$ with the continuous domain $[\mathbb{Y} \to \mathbb{D}]$ via a Galois connection. This allows us to perform computations in the native structure $[\mathbb{X} \to \mathbb{D}]$ while computable analysis is performed in the continuous domain $[\mathbb{Y} \to \mathbb{D}]$, with the left and right adjoints used for moving between the two function spaces.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider two questions on absolute star-Lindelofness and star-Lindelofness: (1) Whether every Tychonoff star-Lindelof space can be embedded into some Tychonoff absolutely star-Lindelof space as a closed subspace or as a closed G(delta)-subspace; (2) Characterize the Tychonoff star-Lindelof spaces which can be embedded as regular closed subspaces into Tychonoff absolutely star-Lindelof spaces. We proved that the answer to first question is YES in general. For the second question we give a complete solution.
Generic uniformly continuous mappings on unbounded hyperbolic spaces

Abstract:We consider a complete, unbounded, hyperbolic metric space $X$ and a concave, nonzero and nondecreasing function $\omega:[0,+\infty)\to[0,+\infty)$ with $\omega(0)=0$ and study the space $\mathcal{C}_\omega(X)$ of uniformly continous self-mappings on $X$ whose modulus of continuity is bounded above by $\omega$. We endow $\mathcal{C}_\omega(X)$ with the topology of uniform convergence on bounded sets and prove that the modulus of continuity of the generic mapping in $\mathcal{C}_\omega(X)$, in the sense of Baire categories, is precisely $\omega$. Some related results in spaces of bounded mappings and in the topology of pointwise convergence are also discussed. This note can be seen as a completion of various results due to F. Strobin, S. Reich, A. Zaslavski, C. Bargetz and D. Thimm.

Abstract:For a Tychonoff space X , let be the -algebra of all bounded complex-valued continuous functions on X . In this paper, we mainly discuss Tychonoff one-point extensions of X arising from closed ideals of . We show that every closed ideal H of produces a Tychonoff one-point extension of X . Moreover, every Tychonoff one-point extension of X can be obtained in this way. As an application, we study the partially ordered set of all Tychonoff one-point extensions of X . It is shown that the minimal unitization of a non-vanishing closed ideal H of is isometrically -isomorphic with the -algebra . We provide a description for the Čech–Stone compactification of an arbitrary Tychonoff one-point extension of X as a quotient space of via a closed ideal of . Then, we establish a characterization of closed ideals of that have countable topological generators. Finally, an intrinsic characterization of the multiplier algebra of an arbitrary closed ideal of is given.

Isometric Representations of Calibrated Ordered Spaces on $C(X)$

Abstract:The problem of characterizing normed ordered spaces which admit a representation in the algebraic, order and norm sense as a subspace of $C(X)$, the space of all continuous functions on a compact Hausdorff space is a classical problem that has been considered by many authors. In this article we consider the more general case of calibrated ordered spaces, that is, ordered spaces with a specified family of seminorms generating its topology. For such spaces equivalent conditions on representability as a subspace of $C(X)$ for some locally compact Hausdorff space $X$, in the algebraic, order and seminorm sense are stated and proved. Some characterizations appear to be new even in the normed case. As an application of the main theorem, we state and prove a characterization of norm additivity property of two positive functionals.

We prove the following assertions: (1) the space $C_k(X,2)$ is an Ascoli space iff $C_k(X,2)$ is $k_\mathbb{R}$-space iff either $X$ is locally compact or $X$ is not locally compact but $X'$ is compact, (2) $C_k(X,2)$ is a $k$-space iff either $X$ is a topological sum of a Polish locally compact space and a discrete space or $X$ is not locally compact but $X'$ is compact, (3) $C_k(X,2)$ is a sequential space iff $X$ is a Polish space and either $X$ is locally compact or $X$ is not locally compact but $X'$ is compact, (4) $C_k(X,2)$ is a Fr\'{e}chet--Urysohn space iff $C_k(X,2)$ is a Polish space iff $X$ is a Polish locally compact space, (5) $C_k(X,2)$ is normal iff $X'$ is separable, (6) $C_k(X,2)$ has countable tightness iff $X$ is separable. Abstract:For any Tychonoff space X we have introduced the zero-set in-tersection graph on {\Gamma}(C+(X)) and studied the graph properties in connection with the algebraic properties of the semiring C+(X). We have shown that for any two realcompact spaces X and Y the graph isomorphism between {\Gamma}(C+(X)) and {\Gamma}(C+(Y )), the semiring isomorphism between C+(X) and C+(Y ), the topological homeomorphism between X and Y, the ring isomorphism between C(X) and C(Y ) and the graph isomorphism between {\Gamma}(C(X)) and {\Gamma}(C(Y )) are equivalent.
