Abstract:In this paper, we consider the stabilization of wave equations with moving boundary. First, we show the solution behaviour of wave equation with Neumann boundary conditions, that is, the energy of wave equation with mixed boundary conditions may decrease, increase or conserve depending on the different range of parameter. Second, we prove the wellposedness and stabilization for the wave equation with time delay and moving boundary.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main problem that this paper attempts to solve is the stabilization problem of the wave equation under moving boundary conditions. Specifically, the paper focuses on the energy behavior of the wave equation with mixed boundary conditions, as well as the well - posedness and stabilization of the wave equation with time delay and moving boundaries.
### Main research contents
1. **Stabilization of the wave equation under moving boundary conditions**:
- The paper first explores the behavior of the solutions of the wave equation with Neumann boundary conditions, pointing out that the energy of the wave equation may decrease, increase or remain unchanged, depending on different ranges of parameters.
- Different decay types of system energy are defined, including polynomial - rate decay and exponential decay.
- By analyzing different value ranges of the control parameter \(a\), the change of system energy is proved. The specific results are as follows:
- When \(a < a_1\) or \(a > a_2\), the energy increases.
- When \(a = a_1\) or \(a = a_2\), the energy remains unchanged.
- When \(a_1 < a < a_2\), the energy decreases.
2. **Stabilization of the wave equation with time delay**:
- The well - posedness and stabilization problems of the wave equation with time delay are studied.
- The energy of the system is defined, and the relationship between stability and coefficients \(\mu_1\), \(\mu_2\) and time delay \(\tau\) is established.
- By analyzing different values of these parameters, the increase and decrease of system energy are proved. The specific results are as follows:
- When \(1-\sqrt{1 - k^2}/k < \mu_1 < 1+\sqrt{1 - k^2}/k\) and \(\mu_2 < -|k\mu_1 - 1|+\sqrt{1 - k^2}/k\), the energy decreases.
- When \(\mu_2\geq|k\mu_1 - 1|+\sqrt{1 - k^2}/k\), the energy increases.
### Mathematical models and methods
- **Model of the wave equation**:
\[
\begin{cases}
u_{tt}-u_{xx} = 0 & \text{in } Q_k, \\
u_x(0, t)=0, & \\
u_x(l_k(t), t)+au_t(l_k(t), t)=0 & \text{on }(0, \infty), \\
u(x, 0)=u_0, \quad u_t(x, 0)=u_1 & \text{in }(0, 1),
\end{cases}
\]
where \(l_k(t)=1 + kt\), \(0 < k < 1\).
- **Definition of energy**:
\[
E_1(t)=\frac{1}{2}\int_{0}^{l_k(t)}\left(u_t^2(x, t)+u_x^2(x, t)\right)dx.
\]
- **Model of the wave equation with time delay**:
\[
\begin{cases}
u_{tt}-u_{xx} = 0 & \text{in } Q_k, \\
u(0, t)=0, & \\
u_x(l_k(t), t)=-\mu_1 u_t(l_k(t), t)-\mu_2 u_t(l_k(t-\tau), t-\tau) & \text{on }(0, \infty), \\
u(x, 0)=u_0, \quad u_t(x, 0)=u_1 & \text{in }(0, 1), \\
u_t(l_k(t-\tau), t-\tau)=g_0(t-\tau) & \text{on }(0, \t
