Abstract:We numerically study a model of interacting spin-$1/2$ electrons with random exchange coupling on a fully connected lattice. This model hosts a quantum critical point separating two distinct metallic phases as a function of doping: a Fermi liquid phase with a large Fermi surface volume and a low-doping phase with local moments ordering into a spin-glass. We show that this quantum critical point has non-Fermi liquid properties characterized by $T$-linear Planckian behavior, $\omega/T$ scaling and slow spin dynamics of the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) type. The $\omega/T$ scaling function associated with the electronic self-energy is found to have an intrinsic particle-hole asymmetry, a hallmark of a `skewed' non-Fermi liquid.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the Planckian Metal phenomenon that occurs at the doping - induced quantum critical point. Specifically, the researchers studied the behavior of a spin - 1/2 electron interaction model with random exchange coupling on a fully - connected lattice through numerical simulations. This model has two different metal phases at different doping levels: one is the Fermi - liquid phase at high doping, with a large Fermi - surface volume; the other is the spin - glass phase formed by local - moment ordering at low doping. The focus of the paper is to explore the physical properties near the quantum critical point (Quantum Critical Point, QCP) between these two phases, especially whether this quantum critical point exhibits non - Fermi - liquid characteristics, such as T - linear resistivity, ω/T scaling, and slow spin dynamics, which are similar to the phenomena in the Sachdev - Ye - Kitaev (SYK) model. The key findings mentioned in the paper include: - In the quantum - critical region, the lifetime of the excited state exhibits "Planck" behavior \( \frac{1}{\tau^*} \approx \frac{ck_BT}{\hbar} \), where \( c \) is a coefficient close to 1. - Near the quantum critical point, the self - energy exhibits ω/T scaling and there is an inherent particle - hole asymmetry. - The dynamics of the local spin - correlation function \( Q(\tau) \) near the quantum critical point changes from the long - time behavior of the Fermi - liquid \( \sim 1/\tau^2 \) to the SYK - type \( \sim 1/\tau \). - Local moments appear in the low - doping metal phase and unstably transform into the spin - glass phase below a certain critical temperature. These findings not only deepen the understanding of quantum - critical phenomena but may also provide theoretical support for similar phenomena in other material systems, such as the Planckian behavior and quantum criticality in twisted bilayer graphene.
