Abstract:We prove a categorification of the stable elements formula of Cartan and Eilenberg. Our formula expresses the derived category and the stable module category of a group as a bilimit of the corresponding categories for the $p$-subgroups.

Abstract:For an endofunctor $F\colon\mathcal{C}\to\mathcal{C}$ on an ($\infty$-)category $\mathcal{C}$ we define the $\infty$-category $\operatorname{Cart}(\mathcal{C},F)$ of generalized Cartier modules as the lax equalizer of $F$ and the identity. This generalizes the notion of Cartier modules on $\mathbb{F}_p$-schemes considered in the literature. We show that in favorable cases $\operatorname{Cart}(\mathcal{C},F)$ is monadic over $\mathcal{C}$. If $\mathcal{A}$ is a Grothendieck abelian category and $F\colon\mathcal{A}\to\mathcal{A}$ is an exact and colimit-preserving endofunctor, we use this fact to construct an equivalence $\mathcal{D}(\operatorname{Cart}(\mathcal{A},F)) \simeq \operatorname{Cart}(\mathcal{D}(\mathcal{A}),\mathcal{D}(F))$ of stable $\infty$-categories. We use this equivalence to give a more conceptual construction of the perverse t-structure on $\mathcal{D}^b_{\operatorname{coh}}(\operatorname{Cart}(\operatorname{QCoh}(X), F_*))$ for any Noetherian $\mathbb{F}_p$-scheme $X$ with finite absolute Frobenius $F\colon X\to X$.

Equivariant $\underline{\mathbb{Z}/\ell}$-modules for the cyclic group $C_2$

Abstract:For the cyclic group $C_2$ we give a complete description of the derived category of perfect complexes of modules over the constant Mackey ring $\underline{\mathbb{Z}/\ell}$, for $\ell$ a prime. This is fairly simple for $\ell$ odd, but for $\ell=2$ depends on a new splitting theorem. As corollaries of the splitting theorem we compute the associated Picard group and the Balmer spectrum for compact objects in the derived category, and we obtain a complete classification of finite modules over the $C_2$-equivariant Eilenberg--MacLane spectrum $H\underline{\mathbb{Z}/2}$. We also use the splitting theorem to give new and illuminating proofs of some facts about $RO(C_2)$-graded Bredon cohomology, namely Kronholm's freeness theorem and the structure theorem of C. May.

Abstract:The Hecke algebras for all symmetric groups taken together form a braided monoidal category that controls all quantum link invariants of type A and, by extension, the standard canon of topological quantum field theories in dimension 3 and 4. Here we provide the first categorification of this Hecke braided monoidal category, which takes the form of an $\mathbb{E}_2$-monoidal $(\infty,2)$-category whose hom-$(\infty,1)$-categories are $k$-linear, stable, idempotent-complete, and equipped with $\mathbb{Z}$-actions. This categorification is designed to control homotopy-coherent link homology theories and to-be-constructed topological quantum field theories in dimension 4 and 5.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal O_p$ denote the characteristic $p>0$ version of the ordinary category $\mathcal O$ for a semisimple complex Lie algebra. In this paper we give some (formal) character formulas in $\mathcal O_p$. First we concentrate on the irreducible characters. Here we give explicit formulas for how to obtain all irreducible characters from the characters of the finitely many restricted simple modules as well as the characters of a small number of infinite dimensional simple modules in $\mathcal O_p$ with specified highest weights. We next prove a strong linkage principle for Verma modules which allow us to split $\mathcal O_p$ into a finite direct sum of linkage classes. There are corresponding translation functors and we use these to further cut down the set of irreducible characters needed for determining all others. Then we show that the twisting functors on $\mathcal O$ carry over to twisting functors on $\mathcal O_p$, and as an application we prove a character sum formula for Jantzen-type filtrations of Verma modules with antidominant highest weights. Finally, we record formulas relating the characters of the two kinds of tilting modules in $\mathcal O_p$.

Abstract:By Auslander's algebraic McKay correspondence, the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over a simple singularity is equivalent to the $1$-cluster category of the path algebra of a Dynkin quiver (i.e. the orbit category of the derived category by the action of the Auslander-Reiten translation). In this paper we give a systematic method to construct a similar type of triangle equivalence between the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over a Gorenstein isolated singularity $R$ and the generalized (higher) cluster category of a finite dimensional algebra $\Lambda$. The key role is played by a bimodule Calabi-Yau algebra, which is the higher Auslander algebra of $R$ as well as the higher preprojective algebra of an extension of $\Lambda$. As a byproduct, we give a triangle equivalence between the stable category of graded Cohen-Macaulay $R$-modules and the derived category of $\Lambda$. Our main results apply in particular to a class of cyclic quotient singularities and to certain toric affine threefolds associated with dimer models.

Abstract:Abstract In this work, we establish a categorification of the classical Dold-Kan correspondence in the form of an equivalence between suitably defined $$\infty $$ ∞ -categories of simplicial stable $$\infty $$ ∞ -categories and connective chain complexes of stable $$\infty $$ ∞ -categories. The result may be regarded as a contribution to the foundations of an emerging subject that could be termed categorified homological algebra.

Abstract:Buchweitz related the singularity category of a (strongly) Gorenstein ring and the stable category of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules by a triangle equivalence. We phrase his result in a relative categorical setting based on N-complexes instead of classical 2-complexes. The role of Cohen-Macaulay modules is played by chains of monics in a Frobenius subcategory of an exact category. As a byproduct, we provide foundational results on derived categories of N-complexes over exact categories known from the Abelian case or for 2-complexes.

Abstract:We define a categorical action of the shifted quantum loop group of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ on the derived categories of Quot schemes of finite length quotient sheaves on a smooth projective curve. As an application, we obtain a semi-orthogonal decomposition of the derived categories of Quot schemes, of representation theoretic origin. We use this decomposition to calculate the cohomology of interesting tautological vector bundles over the Quot scheme.

Categorified Open Topological Field Theories

Abstract:In this short note, we classify linear categorified open topological field theories in dimension two by pivotal Grothendieck-Verdier categories. In combination with recently developed string-net techniques, this leads to a new description of the spaces of conformal blocks of Drinfeld centers $Z(\mathcal{C})$ of pivotal finite tensor categories $\mathcal{C}$ in terms of the modular envelope of the cyclic associative operad. If $\mathcal{C}$ is unimodular, we prove that the space of conformal blocks inherits the structure of a module over the algebra of class functions of $\mathcal{C}$ for every free boundary component. As a further application, we prove that the sewing along a boundary circle for the modular functor for $Z(\mathcal{C})$ can be decomposed into a sewing procedure along an interval and the application of the partial trace. Finally, we construct mapping class group representations from Grothendieck-Verdier categories that are not necessarily rigid and make precise how these generalize existing constructions.

Abstract:As a sequel to [Duan-Shu-Yao], we introduce here a category $\mathscr{LC}$ arising from the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ defined in [Duan-Shu-Yao] for Lie algebras of polynomial vector fields. The objects of $\mathscr{LC}$ are so-called Lie-Cartan modules which admit both Lie-module structure and compatible $R$-module structure ($R$ denotes the corresponding polynomial ring). This terminology is natural, coming from affine connections in differential geometry through which the structure sheaves in topology and the vector fields in geometry are integrated for differential manifolds.

Abstract:We consider the monoidal subcategory of finite dimensional representations of $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}(1|1))$ generated by the vector representation, and we provide a diagram calculus for the intertwining operators, which allows to compute explicitly the canonical basis. We construct then a categorification of these representations and of the action of both $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}(1|1))$ and the intertwining operators using subquotient categories of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$.

Abstract:We consider the equivariant Kasparov category associated to an étale groupoid, and by leveraging its triangulated structure we study its localization at the 'weakly contractible' objects, extending previous work by R. Meyer and R. Nest. We prove the subcategory of weakly contractible objects is complementary to the localizing subcategory of projective objects, which are defined in terms of 'compactly induced' algebras with respect to certain proper subgroupoids related to isotropy. The resulting 'strong' Baum–Connes conjecture implies the classical one, and its formulation clarifies several permanence properties and other functorial statements. We present multiple applications, including consequences for the Universal Coefficient Theorem, a generalized 'going-down' principle, injectivity results for groupoids that are amenable at infinity, the Baum–Connes conjecture for group bundles, and a result about the invariance of K-groups of twisted groupoid -algebras under homotopy of twists.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a small $n$-abelian category. We show that the category of finitely presented functors $mod$-$\mathcal{M}$ modulo the subcategory of effaceable functors $mod_0$-$\mathcal{M}$ has an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory which is equivalent to $\mathcal{M}$. This gives a higher-dimensional version of Auslander's formula.

Connected components of the moduli space of L-parameters

Abstract:Recently, in order to formulate a categorical version of the local Langlands correspondence, several authors have constructed moduli spaces of $\mathbf{Z}[1/p]$-valued L-parameters for $p$-adic groups. The connected components of these spaces over various $\mathbf{Z}[1/p]$-algebras $R$ are conjecturally related to blocks in categories of $R$-representations of $p$-adic groups. Dat-Helm-Kurinczuk-Moss described the components when $R$ is an algebraically closed field and gave a conjectural description when $R = \overline{\mathbf{Z}}[1/p]$. In this paper, we prove a strong form of this conjecture applicable to any integral domain $R$ over $\overline{\mathbf{Z}}[1/p]$.

Abstract:The consistent systems of idempotents of Meyer and Solleveld allow to construct Serre subcategories of $Rep_R(G)$, the category of smooth representations of a $p$-adic group $G$ with coefficients in $R$. In particular, they were used to construct level 0 decompositions when $R=\overline{\mathbb{Z}}_{\ell}$, $\ell \neq p$, by Dat for $GL_n$ and the author for a more general group. Wang proved in the case of $GL_n$ that the subcategory associated with a system of idempotents is equivalent to a category of coefficient systems on the Bruhat-Tits building. This result was used by Dat to prove an equivalence between an arbitrary level zero block of $GL_n$ and a unipotent block of another group. In this paper, we generalize Wang's equivalence of category to a connected reductive group on a non-archimedean local field.

Abstract:In this work we construct a compactly generated tensor-triangulated stable category for a large class of infinite groups, including those in Kropholler's hierarchy $\mathrm{LH}\mathfrak{F}$. This can be constructed as the homotopy category of a certain model category structure, which we show is Quillen equivalent to several other model categories, including those constructed by Bravo, Gillespie, and Hovey in their work on stable module categories for general rings. We also investigate the compact objects in this category. In particular, we give a characterisation of those groups of finite global Gorenstein AC-projective dimension such that the trivial representation $\mathbb{Z}$ is compact.

On finite group scheme-theoretical categories, II

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{C}:=\mathcal{C}(G,\omega,H,\psi)$ be a finite group scheme-theoretical category over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p\ge 0$ as defined by the first author. For any indecomposable exact module category over $\mathcal{C}$, we classify its simple objects and provide an expression for their projective covers, in terms of double cosets and projective representations of certain closed subgroup schemes of $G$. This upgrades a result of Ostrik for group-theoretical fusion categories in characteristic $0$, and generalizes our previous work for the case $\omega=1$. As a byproduct, we describe the simples and indecomposable projectives of $\mathcal{C}$. Finally, we apply our results to describe the blocks of the center of ${\rm Coh}(G,\omega)$.

Cartanification of contragredient Lie superalgebras

Abstract:Let $B$ be a $\mathbb{Z}$-graded Lie superalgebra equipped with an invariant $\mathbb{Z}_2$-symmetric homogeneous bilinear form and containing a grading element. Its local part (in the terminology of Kac) $B_{-1} \oplus B_{0} \oplus B_{1}$ gives rise to another $\mathbb{Z}$-graded Lie superalgebra, recently constructed in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2207.12417" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2207.12417">arXiv:2207.12417</a>, that we here denote $B^W$ and call the cartanification of $B^W$, since it is of Cartan type in the cases where it happens to finite-dimensional. In cases where $B$ is given by a generalised Cartan matrix, we compare $B^W$ to the tensor hierarchy algebra $W$ constructed from the same generalised Cartan matrix by a modification of the generators and relations. We generalise this construction and give conditions under which $W$ and $B^W$ are isomorphic, proving a conjecture in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2207.12417" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2207.12417">arXiv:2207.12417</a>. We expect that the algebras with restricted associativity underlying the cartanifications will be useful in applications of tensor hierarchy algebras to the field of extended geometry in physics.
