Abstract:This paper presents a conceptual design for quantum heat machines using a pair of coupled double quantum dots (DQDs), each DQD with an excess electron to interact, as an working substance. We define a compression ratio as the ratio between the Coulomb couplings which describes the interaction between the electrons during the isochoric processes of the quantum Otto cycle and then we analyse the arising of different regimes of operations of our thermal machine. We also show how we can achieve a classically inconceivable Otto engine, when considering the effects due to the parameters related to the quantum tunneling of a single electron between each individual DQD.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to design a quantum heat engine using a pair of coupled double - quantum dots (DQDs) as the working substance. Each DQD contains an extra electron, and the interactions between these electrons are described during the isochoric processes of the quantum Otto cycle. The author defines a compression ratio, that is, the ratio of Coulomb couplings during the isochoric processes, and analyzes the emergence of different operation modes. In addition, the author also shows how to realize an Otto engine unimaginable in classical terms by considering the relevant parameters of the quantum tunneling effect of a single electron between each DQD. This indicates that quantum tunneling can change the operation mode of the heat engine and enable work extraction even for an incompressible working substance. Specifically, this research aims to: 1. **Design a quantum heat engine**: Propose a conceptual design of a quantum heat engine using a coupled double - quantum - dot system as the working substance. 2. **Analyze operation modes**: By controlling Coulomb coupling and quantum tunneling parameters, study the emergence of different operation modes. 3. **Achieve non - classical results**: Show how to achieve effects that cannot be reached by classical thermodynamics, such as improving engine efficiency and refrigeration performance and changing the operation mode of the machine, by controlling the quantum tunneling effect. Through these studies, the author hopes to provide theoretical basis and technical support for the further development of the fields of quantum thermodynamics and quantum information processing.
