Abstract:Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, Ahead of Print. Embedded performance validity tests (PVTs), like Digit Span PVTs from Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV), offer a valuable means of evaluating validity without extending administration time. This study investigated the utility of novel indices of performance inconsistency for WAIS-IV Digit Span (DS IRs) in the detection of invalid performance among 705 adults referred for ADHD evaluation. Results showed DS IR indices were inadequate in classifying overall validity status (areas under the curve = 0.52–0.59). Predictably, four established Digit Span PVTs effectively distinguished between valid and invalid performance score groups (areas under the curve = 0.74–0.78) with 32–49% sensitivity and 86–93% specificity at optimal cut-scores. Overall, individuals with noncredible performance scores did not differ significantly from those with valid scores regarding performance inconsistency on WAIS-IV Digit Span.

Relationship between executive function and violent crime in male juveniles

Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between executive function and violent crime among male juveniles.Methods The subjects were 107 juvenile offenders with violent crime,107 offenders with nonviolent crime,and 107 male juveniles in vocational school as normal controls.All the participants were administered to the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale Short Form (WAIS-SF),Intra/Extra Dimensional Set Shift (IED),Stockings of Cambridge (SOC) and Spatial Working Memory (SWM) in the Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery (CANTAB) and conducted analysis of variance and covariance.Results (1) There was no significant difference in IQ between violent group (98.3 ± 5.1) and nonviolent group (103.8 ± 5.5,P ＞ 0.05),However,both violent and nonviolent groups were significantly lower than normal control group (98.3 ± 4.3,all P ＜ 0.05).(2) With the exception of the ED errors,Three groups demonstrated significant differences in other cognitive indicators (F =3.05-9.74,P ＜ 0.05-0.01).Multiple comparison indicated that violent group exhibited significantly more total and pre-ED errors than nonviolent group and normal control group (all P ＜ 0.05),and fewer Number of Stages Completed than nonviolent group and normal control group (all P ＜ 0.05).But there was no significant difference between nonviolent group and normal controls on the IED test (all P ＞ 0.05).A significant group difference at mean moves (3,5-move) that reflected more moves were taken by the violent group than the normal control group (all P ＜ 0.05),and no differences between the nonviolent group and the normal control group (all P ＞0.05).There was no significant difference in mean initial thinking time(4-move) and mean initial thinking time(5-move) between violent group and nonviolent group (all P ＞ 0.05).However,both violent and nonviolent groups were significantly shorter in comparison to normal control group on the SOC test.In addition,violent group was significantly more than nonviolent group in between errors,and higher strategy score than normal control group on the SWM test (all P ＜ 0.05).(3) Finally,SOC problems solved in minimum moves and mean moves (5-move) became insignificant differences after controlling IQ (F =2.83,0.64,all P ＞0.05),but no statistically significant changes were found for the other executive functioning indicators.Conclusion Male juveniles with violent crime may have executive function deficits even IQ being controlled.
Strengths and Limitations of the Personality Inventory for Youth (PIY) in Juvenile Delinquency Assessments

Abstract:This article highlights and discusses the usefulness of the Personality Inventory for Youth (PIY) in juvenile delinquency assessments. Psychiatric disorders have high prevalence rates among youths in the juvenile justice system. The PIY was developed to evaluate a broad range of behavioral and psychological characteristics, which may make it useful in juvenile delinquency assessment contexts. Practical and psychometric strengths and limitations of the PIY in the juvenile delinquency assessment context are presented, with reference to relevant research literature. The effectiveness of this instrument in detecting response bias, particularly under-reporting, and for identifying problems associated with delinquency is discussed. The issue of item overlap and spurious influences on scale correlations, especially between the PIY Defensiveness and Delinquency scales, is also addressed. A comparison of findings with the PIY and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory–Adolescent (MMPI-A) in juvenile justice samples helps to identify broader considerations about how youths in juvenile justice settings respond to self-report psychological inventories. Finally, the author offers some practical considerations for evaluators when using the PIY in juvenile delinquency assessments, and suggestions for future research.

Abstract:Response sets as well as cognitive and academic deficits compromise the validity of child and adolescent self-report of emotional adjustment. Three studies using clinical and asymptomatic samples of 4th to 12th grade students detail applications of the four validity scales of the Personality Inventory for Youth (PIY), namely, (a) Validity (VAL) a scale of six highly improbable statements, (b) Inconsistency (INC) consisting of pairs of highly correlated statements, (c) Dissimulation (FB) constructed of statements that were infrequent and characteristic of intentional distortion, and (d) Defensiveness (DEF) an extension of the Lie scale of the parent-report Personality Inventory for Children. The effects of minimizing, malingering, and random response sets on the PIY validity scales are reported. The importance of such validity scales derived from child and adolescent response is discussed.

Abstract:Abstract Purpose Purpose: We report normative data with non-athlete college students for three brief, public-domain performance validity tests (PVT) representing auditory-verbal memory (Rey Word Recognition Test; RWRT), auditory vigilance; (A-Test), and visual attention (Rey Dot Counting Test; DCT). Cut scores for suboptimal performance (SOP) were determined, and the importance of using multiple PVTs was established. Method Method: 150 non-athlete college students (45% female; representing four college year levels) were recruited via the college’s research participation application and assigned randomly to honest-effort, fake-bad, or instructed fake-bad groups. 50 student-athletes were selected randomly to compare athlete performance with non-athletes. Group differences for PVT measures, and receiver operating curve (ROC) cut scores for suboptimal performance are reported. Results Results: Only the RWRT measures met normality and homogeneity of variance assumptions. MANOVA with post-hoc Tukey tests showed no differences between groups for RWRT. For DCT and A-Test, non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis comparisons were conducted, each resulting in significant differences (all p < 0.001) between honest-effort and SOP groups. No differences were found between the two SOP groups, nor athlete baseline vs honest effort groups, but athletes differed significantly from both SOP groups. ROC cut scores that suggested suboptimal effort were DCT combination score ≥ 15; RWRT combination score ≤ 12; and A-Test omission errors ≥1. Four participants from the honest-effort group and 49 from the fake-bad groups fell below criteria for two tests. Conclusions Conclusion: The DCT combination and A-Test omission scores were valid indicators of suboptimal performance. Combining multiple PVT “failures”maximized identification of suspect performers and minimized inclusion of honest-effort participants.

Abstract:There is recent evidence to suggest that Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) Verbal Scale IQ is more commonly and significantly impaired than Performance Scale IQ in males with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This has been interpreted as the effect of some physical parameter of the disease upon central nervous system functioning. The purpose of the present study was to examine whether this verbal deficit was due to a verbal expression disability only or to a more comprehensive language problem involving a verbal expression as well as a verbal mediation deficit. Seven males with a 12-point discrepancy between WISC verbal and Performance Scale IQs were administered the Hiskey-Nebraska Test of Learning Aptitude (HNTLA), a nonverbal test of cognitive ability designed for use with the deaf and the hearing impaired, but with norms available for hearing children. In each of the seven cases, the HNTLA deviation quotient(comparable to IQ) corresponded more closely to the higher WISC Performance IQ, suggesting a verbal expression deficit but with most aspects of verbal mediation skills intact. Analysis of subtest scores on the WISC verbal and Performance Scales and the HNTLA found a consistent pattern, with higher scores on those subtests requiring abstract reasoning and categorization ability and lower scores on those subtests requiring memory for patterns, numbers, and verbal labels. This further suggests a deficit in memory function, which is a component of verbal mediation.

Abstract:Objective: The use of performance validity tests (PVTs) to assess suboptimal performance has become a recommended feature in neuropsychological evaluations. However, most of the literature has examined the utility of PVTs in primarily non-Hispanic White, monolingual English-speaking samples. Given the continual growth of culturally and linguistically diverse populations, especially Hispanic/Latin Americans (H/Ls), it is necessary to provide an updated review of the available literature involving the use of PVTs in H/L adults. Method: We conducted a systematic review that examined the available literature surrounding the use of performance validity measures in H/L adults. This review identified evidence for the utility of PVTs in assessing invalid performance in H/Ls and compiled psychometric properties related to these measures, specifically rates of specificity and sensitivity when available. Results: We identified six standalone and four embedded performance validity measures that have been examined in H/Ls. The Test of Memory Malingering was identified as the PVT most studied in various H/L heritage groups. Across the studies reviewed, adjustments to cutoff scores are generally recommended for the majority of PVTs discussed. Within H/Ls, specificity rates tend to be bolstered when sociocultural factors, like education, are considered. Conclusions: Recommended cutoff scores across the different PVTs reviewed are not typically suitable for use in heritage groups of H/L adults, especially in groups that include adults with lower levels of education and literacy. Do Wechsler intelligence scales predict academic achievement in children with ADHD or autism? A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:Intelligence tests predict academic achievement in typically developed children, however if this is the case also in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and/or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is not clear. This systematic review and meta-analysis examined if Wechsler intelligence scales predict academic achievement and/or grades in children, ages 6-16 years, with ADHD and/or ASD. We searched the databases PubMed, PsycINFO and Education Research Complete for studies published between 2000 and 2023. We used the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale to assess risk of bias. Narrative synthesis and meta-analysis were performed. Twelve studies (ADHD n = 1,834, ASD n = 176) were included in the review, and six samples (ADHD n = 1,112) of those were included in the meta-analyses. The results of the meta-analyses showed moderate overall weighted correlations between IQ and word reading, written language, and mathematics respectively. Similarly, the overall weighted correlations between processing speed and the aforementioned domains of academic achievement were moderate. Meta-analysis with additional Wechsler scales composite scores could not be conducted. In the narrative synthesis, Full Scale IQ was associated with academic achievement in both ADHD and ASD, and grades in ADHD. The limited number of ASD participants and the heterogeneity of the samples need to be considered when interpreting results. Generally, the results indicate that Wechsler scales are valuable in predicting academic achievement in children with ADHD or ASD. Motivation and other factors related with academic achievement need to be further explored in these groups.

Abstract:Objectives: This study investigated the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Fourth Edition Letter-Number Sequencing (LNS) subtest as an embedded performance validity indicator among adults undergoing an attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) evaluation, and its potential incremental value over Reliable Digit Span (RDS). Method: This cross-sectional study comprised 543 adults who underwent neuropsychological evaluation for ADHD. Patients were divided into valid ( n = 480) and invalid ( n = 63) groups based on multiple criterion performance validity tests. Results: LNS total raw scores, age-corrected scaled scores, and age- and education-corrected T-scores demonstrated excellent classification accuracy (area under the curve of .84, .83, and .82, respectively). The optimal cutoff for LNS raw score (≤16), age-corrected scaled score (≤7), and age- and education-corrected T-score (≤36) yielded .51 sensitivity and .94 specificity. Slightly lower sensitivity (.40) and higher specificity (.98) was associated with a more conservative T-score cutoff of ≤33. Multivariate models incorporating both LNS and RDS improved classification accuracy (area under the curve of .86), and LNS scores explained a significant but modest proportion of variance in validity status above and beyond RDS. Chaining LNS T-score of ≤33 with RDS cutoff of ≤7 increased sensitivity to .69 while maintaining ≥.90 specificity. Conclusions: Findings provide preliminary evidence for the criterion and construct validity of LNS as an embedded validity indicator in ADHD evaluations. Practitioners are encouraged to use LNS T-score cutoff of ≤33 or ≤36 to assess the validity of obtained test data. Employing either of these LNS cutoffs with RDS may enhance the detection of invalid performance.

Abstract:Abstract Objective Intraindividual variability (IIV), defined as variability in performance across different cognitive domains within an individual, has been studied in adults and found to be linked to sex, age, and mean cognitive performance, and associated with developmental disorders (e.g., ADHD), focal disorders, and cognitive decline. In contrast, IIV in children is thought to be related to cognitive development rather than impairment, but has not been well studied with relation to differences across sex, age, diagnoses, or mean cognitive performance. Method Participants included 426 children/young adults (ages 3–25; M = 11.75, SD = 4.01; 62.3% male) referred for neuropsychological evaluation at a hospital-based outpatient clinic. A battery of tests was administered measuring several domains, including intelligence, academics, attention, executive functions, language, memory, visual motor integration, and fine motor skills. Intraindividual standard deviation (ISD) and maximum deviation (MD) were used as measures of IIV. Results Sex was not related to ISD or MD, ts(423) = −1.15 – -0.09, ps = 0.251–0.930. Age, measured categorically, was not related to ISD, F(3) = 0.07, p = 0.974, but was related to MD, F(3) = 3.45, p = 0.017 with children age 3–5 having lower MD. ADHD diagnosis was not related to ISD or MD, ts(417) = −1.25 – −1.19, ps = 0.211–0.234. An inverse relationship was observed between mean cognitive performance and ISD, F(1) = 36.43, p < 0.001, and MD, F(1) = 25.92, p < 0.001. Conclusions The current study did not replicate differences in IIV based on sex or diagnosis of ADHD in children. However, differences based on age and mean cognitive performance are consistent with previous literature, suggesting that IIV may reflect differences in cognitive development, secondary to both skill and age, in children.

Abstract:This study examined hypotheses regarding the role of verbal mediation in language processing by children with low verbal/high performance WISC profiles. Of specific interest was whether the verbal disability identified by the depressed Verbal IQ was related to either a specific verbal expression deficit or a more general symbolic mediation problem. Children in third through fifth grades (ages 8—12) with low verbal/high performance WISC profiles were evaluated using cognitive tasks which require verbal mediation strategies without requiring vocal responses. When the results of the nonvocal verbally mediated tasks closely approximated the lower Verbal IQ, children were placed in a General Language Disability group, and when results closely approximated the higher Performance IQ, they were considered to have a Specific Verbal Disability. The latter obtained reading scores significantly higher than the former children. The results support the contention that verbal mediation may be a viable construct for differentiating language-learning disabled children.

Psychiatric Illness and Intellectual Disability in the Prader-Willi Syndrome with Different Molecular Defects - A Meta Analysis

Abstract:Background and Objectives: Several studies have suggested a difference in clinical features of intellectual ability and psychiatric illness in the Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) with the 15q11-q13 paternal deletion and maternal uniparental disomy (mUPD). Our objective was to appraise evidence on this association through a meta-analysis.Methods: The electronic records PubMed and EMBASE from 1956 to 2012 were extracted for meta-analysis. Meta-analyses were performed by using fixed effect model. Mean difference, odds ratio, and 95% confidence interval were calculated.Results: We retrieved a total of 744 PWS cases from 13 studies. These include 423 cases with paternal 15q11-q13 deletions and 318 cases of mUPD. Compare to the PWS cases with mUPD, PWS patients with the paternal 15q11-q13 deletion associated with significantly lower full scale IQ (FSIQ) [mean difference (MD), -2.69; 95% CI, -4.86 to -0.52; p=0.02] and verbal IQ (VIQ) (MD, -7.5; 95% CI, -9.75 to -5.26; p<0.00001) but higher performance IQ (PIQ) (MD, 4.02; 95% CI, 1.13 to 6.91; p=0.006). In contrast, PWS patients with mUPD are associated with significantly higher risk of psychiatric illness [odds rate (OR), 0.14; 95% CI, 0.08 to 0.23; p<0.00001] and higher risk of bipolar disorder (OR, 0.04; 95% CI, 0.01 to 0.23; p=0.0002).Conclusions: Significant different clinical features of cognitive development and psychiatric illness are associated with PWS with different molecular defects. These findings provide support for evidence based practice to evaluate and manage the PWS syndrome with different molecular defects.
Assessing performance validity during attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder evaluations: Cross-validation of non-memory embedded validity indicators

Abstract:Embedded performance validity tests (PVTs) are key components of neuropsychological evaluations. However, most are memory-based and may be less useful in the assessment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Four non-memory-based validity indices derived from processing speed and executive functioning measures commonly included in ADHD evaluations, namely Verbal Fluency (VF) and the Trail Making Test (TMT), were cross-validated using the Rey 15-Item Test (RFIT) Recall and Recall/Recognition as memory-based comparison measures. This consecutive case series included data from 416 demographically-diverse adults who underwent outpatient neuropsychological evaluation for ADHD. Validity classifications were established, with ≤1 PVT failure of five independent criterion PVTs as indicative of valid performance (374 valid performers/42 invalid performers). Among the statistically significant validity indicators, TMT-A and TMT-B T-scores (AUCs = .707-.723) had acceptable classification accuracy ranges and sensitivities ranging from 29%-36% (≥89% specificity). RFIT Recall/Recognition produced similar results as TMT-B T-score with 42% sensitivity/90% specificity, but with lower classification accuracy. In evaluating adult ADHD, VF and TMT embedded PVTs demonstrated comparable sensitivity and specificity values to those found in other clinical populations but necessitated alternate cut-scores. Results also support use of RFIT Recall/Recognition over the standard RFIT Recall as a PVT for adult ADHD evaluations.

81 An Examination of a Multiple Cutoff Performance Validity Index

Abstract:Objective: Recent consensus guidelines have advocated for the use of multivariate performance validity assessment on ability-based measures such those used in neuropsychological assessment. Further, previous research has demonstrated that aggregating performance validity indicators may produce superior classification accuracy. The present study builds upon this research by aggregating data from three of the most commonly used performance validity measures (Test of Memory Malingering [TOMM], Rey Fifteen Item Test with recognition trial [FIT plus recognition], and Reliable Digit Span [RDS]) to create a performance validity composite measure in a veteran mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) population. Participants and Methods: Data of patients evaluated at a VA hospital who had completed the RDS, FIT plus recognition, and TOMM as part of their clinical neuropsychological evaluation were analyzed (n = 20). Two composite performance validity indexes were created: a Single Cutoff Performance Validity Index (SC-PVI), which measures the quantity of failures across performance validity measures (PVMs) by summing the total number of PVM failures, and a Multiple Cutoff Performance Validity Index (MC-PVI) which measures the number of failures as well as degree of failure(s) across measures of performance validity (e.g., a participant would attain a score of 3 if their PVM performance failed to reach a conservative cut point; they would obtain a score of 1 if they met conservative cut point, yet failed to reach a liberal cut point). Results: Only one participant (5%) attained a score of 0 on the SC-PVI (i.e., passing all PVTs using standard cutoffs) and MC-PVI (i.e., passing the most liberal cut points on all three PVMs). Conversely, eight participants (40%) attained a score of 3 on the SC-PVI (i.e., failed all three PVMs) and four participants (20%) attained a score of 9 (i.e., failed the most conservative cut points on all three PVMs). Results showed a significant (p < .001) ordinal association between the two indices (G = .984); however, there was no significant agreement between SC-PVI and MC-PVI models (k = -.087; p = .127). Conclusions: Data revealed discordant findings between the three PVMs utilized. The majority of participants (75%) scored between 2-8 on the MC-PVI, meaning that they did not exceed all liberal cut points or fail all conservative cut points. These "grey area" scores suggest an indeterminate range of performance validity, which cannot be captured by a solitary cut point or neatly classified as pass or fail. The utility of multiple cutoff performance validity models (i.e., aggregating PVMs to consider the severity of failure and number of failures) is that they capture the nuance of these data when determining and discussing the credibility of a profile. Multiple cut point data also highlight how the choice of cutoff influences the outcome of performance validity research and clinical decision making. As such, future research on the classification accuracy of this MC-PVI is needed.

Virginia Commonwealth University, 2016 Major Director: Joshua Langberg, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Psychology The positive illusory bias (PIB) – over-reporting levels of self-competence compared to other raters – has been demonstrated in youth with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), despite increased impairment rates. However, due to inconsistent definitions of the PIB, conflicting findings have emerged regarding prevalence of the PIB in youth with ADHD and whether parent or child report is actually “biased” and driving the PIB. Additionally, stability of the PIB across time is unknown. The present study used person-centered methodology crosssectionally and longitudinally to evaluate the prevalence of the PIB in adolescents with ADHD. Results revealed a cross-domain global PIB group at baseline (18.4% of sample) but only a small social PIB group was present and stable across time. Parents in the PIB group were better reporters of scholastic competence relative to an objective measure than were youth. These findings suggest that the PIB may be significantly less prevalent in this population than previously thought.

Abstract:Neurobiological information - including executive functioning - is increasingly relevant for forensic clinical practice, as well as for the criminal justice system. Previous meta-analyses report that antisocial populations show impaired performance on executive functioning tasks, but these meta-analyses are outdated, have limitations in their methodological approach, and are therefore in need of an update. The current multi-level meta-analysis including 133 studies (2008-2023) confirms impaired performance in executive functioning (d=.42), but studies are heterogeneous. Several moderator analyses showed that neuropsychological test used, type of executive function component, and control group characteristics moderated the overall effect. Specifically, matching psychiatric problems in the non-antisocial control group eliminated any differences in executive functioning between groups. No moderation effects were found for assessment quality, hot or cold executive functions, and various population characteristics. These results could indicate that the assessment of executive functioning in antisocial populations may be less relevant for recidivism risk assessment than thought, although this should first be assessed in prospective longitudinal studies. Executive functioning could potentially be used to identify or screen for individuals with certain treatment needs or be used as a responsivity factor, especially in disorders which are often underdiagnosed in criminal justice settings.

Abstract:Objective: Responding to the concern about racial/ethnic disparities (R/ED) in the use of risk assessment instruments (RAIs) in justice systems, previous research has overwhelmingly tested the extent to which RAI scores consistently predict recidivism across race and ethnicity (predictive bias). However, little is known about R/ED in the association between RAI measures and court dispositions (disparate application) for justice-involved youths. This study investigated predictive bias and disparate application of three risk measures—criminal history, social history, and the overall risk level—produced by the Positive Achievement Change Tool (PACT) for White, Black, and Hispanic justice-involved youths. Hypotheses: Given the mixed evidence in existing research for predictive bias and lack of evidence for disparate application, we did not make any specific hypothesis but conducted exploratory analyses. From a clinical perspective, however, we anticipated little or no evidence to support predictive bias and disparate application of the PACT among White, Black, and Hispanic youths in the jurisdiction we examined. Method: The sample consisted of 5,578 youths (11.4% White, 43.9% Black, and 44.7% Hispanic) who completed the PACT while in the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department, Texas. The outcome variables included recidivism (general and violent reoffending) and court dispositions (deferred adjudication, probation without placement, and probation with placement). We ran a series of moderating binary logistic regression models and moderating ordinal logistic regression models to evaluate predictive bias and disparate application. Results: Race and ethnicity influenced how the criminal history score related to violent recidivism: This compromised the validity of the score as a predictor of recidivism. Moreover, evidence showed that the overall risk of reoffending was associated with harsher sanctioning decisions for Black and Hispanic youths than for White youths. Conclusion: Ensuring that RAI results are consistently interpreted and used in informing decisions is as important as ensuring that RAI scores function equally well in predicting recidivism regardless of race and ethnicity. Abstract:There has been a significant amount of debate around gender differences in intellectual functioning, however, most of this research concerns typically developing populations and lacks research into atypically developing populations and those with specific learning disabilities (SLD). To address this, we examined performance on the WISC-IV in children with SLDs (N = 1238, N female = 539, Age range = 7–16 years). We further divided the sample into those with specific deficits in reading, mathematics, and those with mixed disorder. Results indicate that gender predicts significant differences in the working memory index and processing speed index only, indicating a small but significant female superiority. Results also show different profiles for the different disorders investigated, with some gender differences emerging. The most prominent gender difference appears to be in the coding subtest indicating a female advantage, particularly in those with SLDs with mathematical difficulties. We discuss the theoretical and clinical implications of the findings.

Abstract:In deception tasks the parietal P3 amplitude of the event-related potential indicates either recognition of salient stimuli (larger P3 following salient information) or mental effort (smaller P3 following demanding information). This meta-analysis (k = 77) investigated population effect sizes (δ) for conceptual and methodological a-priori moderators (study design, pre-task scenario, context of deception tasks, and P3 quantification). Within-subject designs show evidence of the underlying cognitive processes, between-subject designs allow for comparisons of cognitive processes in culprits vs. innocents. Committed vs. imagined mock crime scenarios yield larger δ. Deception tasks with a legal context result in almost twice as large δ than deception tasks with social-evaluative and social-biographical contexts. Peak-to-peak P3 quantification resulted in larger δ than other quantifications. Counter-measure techniques in 3-stimulus protocols reduce the discriminability of concealed vs. truthful P3 amplitudes. Depending on stimulus knowledge, deception tasks provide evidence for the salience hypothesis and the mental effort hypothesis, respectively.
