Abstract:In this paper, we characterize the boundedness, the compactness and the Hilbert-Schmidt property for composition operators acting from a de Branges-Rovnyak space $\mathcal H(b)$ into itself, when $b$ is a rational function in the closed unit ball of $H^\infty$ (but not a finite Blaschke product). In particular, we extend some of the results obtained by D. Sarason and J.N. Silva in the context of local Dirichlet spaces.

Abstract:We discuss de Branges-Rovnyak spaces $\mathcal H(b)$ generated by nonextreme and rational functions $b$ and local Dirichlet spaces of order $m$ introduced in [6]. In [6] the authors characterized nonextreme $b$ for which the operator $Y=S|_{\mathcal H(b)}$, the restriction of the shift operator $S$ on $H^2$ to $\mathcal H(b)$, is a strict $2m$-isometry and proved that such spaces $\mathcal H (b)$ are equal to local Dirichlet spaces of order $m$. Here we give a characterization of local Dirichlet spaces of order $m$ in terms of the $m$-th derivatives that is a generalization of a known result on local Dirichlet spaces. We also find explicit formulas for $b$ in the case when $\mathcal H(b)$ coincides with local Dirichlet space of order $m$ with equality of norms. Finally, we prove a property of wandering vectors of $Y$ analogous to the property of wandering vectors of the restriction of $S$ to harmonically weighted Dirichlet spaces obtained by D. Sarason in [11].

Abstract:In this work we consider the Smirnov classes for sub-Bergman spaces. First we point out some observations about the Smirnov property of sub-Bergman space $H^\alpha(\varphi)$ and its relation to the defining $H^{\infty}_{1}$ function $\varphi$. The first main result of the work deals with the range of the defect operator over Smirnov-sub-Bergman class whereas in the last part we show that contrary to classical Bergman spaces, Smirnov-sub-Bergman classes have non-tangential boundary values almost everywhere on the unit circle.

Abstract:We study conditions for containment of a given space $X$ of analytic functions on the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ in the de Branges-Rovnyak space $\mathcal{H}(b)$. We deal with the non-extreme case in which $b$ admits a Pythagorean mate $a$, and derive a multiplier boundedness criterion on the function $\phi = b/a$ which implies the containment $X \subset \mathcal{H}(b)$. With our criterion, we are able to characterize the containment of the Hardy space $\mathcal{H}^p$ inside $\mathcal{H}(b)$, for $p \in [2, \infty]$. The end-point cases have previously been considered by Sarason, and we show that in his result, stating that $\phi \in \mathcal{H}^2$ is equivalent to $\mathcal{H}^\infty \subset \mathcal{H}(b)$, one can in fact replace $\mathcal{H}^\infty$ by BMOA. We establish various other containment results, and study in particular the case of the Dirichlet space $\mathcal{D}$, containment of which is characterized by a Carleson measure condition. In this context, we show that matters are not as simple as in the case of the Hardy spaces, and we carefully work out an example.

Generalized de Branges-Rovnyak spaces

Abstract:Given the reproducing kernel $k$ of the Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}_k$ we study spaces $\mathcal{H}_k(b)$ whose reproducing kernel has the form $k(1-bb^*)$, where $b$ is a row-contraction on $\mathcal{H}_k$. In terms of reproducing kernels this it the most far-reaching generalization of the classical de Branges-Rovnyaks spaces, as well as their very recent generalization to several variables. This includes the so called sub-Bergman spaces in one or several variables. We study some general properties of $\mathcal{H}_k(b)$ e.g. when the inclusion map into $\mathcal{H}$ is compact. Our main result provides a model for $\mathcal{H}_k(b)$ reminiscent of the Sz.-Nagy-Foiaş model for contractions. As an application we obtain sufficient conditions for the containment and density of the linear span of $\{k_w:w\in\mathcal{X}\}$ in $\mathcal{H}_k(b)$. In the standard cases this reduces to containment and density of polynomials. These methods resolve a very recent conjecture regarding polynomial approximation in spaces with kernel $\frac{(1-b(z)b(w)^*)^m}{(1-z\overline w)^\beta}, 1\leq m<\beta, m\in\mathbb{N}$.

Abstract:We show that de Branges-Rovnyak spaces include as special cases a number of spaces, such as the Hardy space, the Fock space, the Hardy-Sobolev space and the Dirichlet space. We present a general framework in which all these spaces can be obtained by specializing a sequence that appears in the construction. We show how to exploit this approach to solve interpolation problems in the Fock space.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the de Branges-Rovnyak spaces $\mathcal{H}(B)$ generated by row Schur functions $B$ with mate $a$. We prove that the polynomials are dense in $\mathcal{H}(B)$, and characterize the backward shift invariant subspaces of $\mathcal{H}(B)$. We then describe the cyclic vectors in $\mathcal{H}(B)$ when $B$ is of finite rank and $\dim (aH^2)^\perp < \infty$.

On cyclicity in de Branges-Rovnyak spaces

Abstract:We study the problem of characterizing the cyclic vectors in de Branges-Rovnyak spaces. Based on a description of the invariant subspaces we show that the difficulty lies entirely in understanding the subspace $(aH^{2})^{\perp}$ and give a complete function theoretic description of the cyclic vectors in the case $\dim (aH^{2})^{\perp} < \infty$. Incidentally, this implies analogous results for certain generalized Dirichlet spaces $\mathcal{D}(\mu)$. Most of our attention is directed to the infinite case where we relate the cyclicity problem to describing the exposed points of $H^{1}$ and provide several sufficient conditions. A necessary condition based on the Aleksandrov-Clark measures of $b$ is also presented.

Abstract:Relations between two classes of Hilbert spaces of entire functions, de Branges spaces and Fock-type spaces with non-radial weights, are studied. It is shown that any de Branges space can be realized as a Fock-type space with equivalent area norm, and several constructions of a representing weight are suggested. For some special classes of weights (e.g., weights depending on the imaginary part only) the corresponding de Branges spaces are explicitly described.

Inspired by the work of Kobayashi on discrete series for indefinite Stiefel manifolds, Gross-Wallach on quaternonic discrete series and their analytic continuation, and Orsted-Wolf on Borel-de Siebenthal discrete series, we define and study Borel-de Siebenthal representations (also called quasi-holomorphic representations) associated with Borel-de Siebenthal root systems for simple Lie groups of non-Hermitian type.

Abstract:The process of identifying a Dirichlet-type space $D(\mu)$ for a positive, Borel measure $\mu$, supported on the unit circle $\mathbb T,$ with a de Branges-Rovnyak space was initiated by Sarason. A characterization of the symbol for a de Branges-Rovnyak spaces for which the shift operator is a $2$-isometry, was provided in an article by Kellay and Zarrabi. In this paper, capitalizing on the Aleman's model for the cyclic, analytic, completely hyperexpansive operators, we provide a characterization of cyclic, analytic, completely hyperexpansive operator with finite rank defect operator in terms of the symbol for a de Branges-Rovnyak space.

Abstract:For $b\in H^\infty_1$, the closed unit ball of $H^\infty$, the de Branges-Rovnyak spaces $\mathcal{H}(b)$ is a Hilbert space contractively contained in the Hardy space $H^2$ that is invariant by the backward shift operator $S^*$. We consider the reducing subspaces of the operator $S^{*2}|_{\mathcal{H}(b)}$. When $b$ is an inner function, $S^{*2}|_{\mathcal{H}(b)}$ is a truncated Toepltiz operator and its reducibility was characterized by Douglas and Foias using model theory. We use another approach to extend their result to the case where $b$ is extreme. We prove that if $b$ is extreme but not inner, then $S^{*2}|_{\mathcal{H}(b)}$ is reducible if and only if $b$ is even or odd, and describe the structure of reducing subspaces.

Abstract:This paper extends the concept of de Branges matrices to any finite $m\times m$ order where $m=2n$. We shall discuss these matrices along with the theory of de Branges spaces of $\mathbb{C}^n$-valued entire functions and their associated functions. A parametrization of these matrices is obtained using the Smirnov maximum principle for matrix valued functions. Additionally, a factorization of matrix valued meromorphic functions is discussed.

Abstract:We give sufficient conditions for a Frobenius category to be equivalent to the category of Gorenstein projective modules over an Iwanaga-Gorenstein ring. We then apply this result to the Frobenius category of special Cohen-Macaulay modules over a rational surface singularity, where we show that the associated stable category is triangle equivalent to the singularity category of a certain discrepant partial resolution of the given rational singularity. In particular, this produces uncountably many Iwanaga-Gorenstein rings of finite GP type. We also apply our method to representation theory, obtaining Auslander-Solberg and Kong type results.

Abstract:In this paper we begin the study of Schur analysis and de Branges-Rovnyak spaces in the framework of Fueter hyperholomorphic functions. The difference with other approaches is that we consider the class of functions spanned by Appell-like polynomials. This approach is very efficient from various points of view, for example in operator theory, and allows to make connections with the recently developed theory of slice polyanalytic functions. We tackle a number of problems: we describe a Hardy space, Schur multipliers and related results. We also discuss Blaschke functions, Herglotz multipliers and their associated kernels and Hilbert spaces. Finally, we consider the counterpart of the half-space case, and the corresponding Hardy space, Schur multipliers and Carathéodory multipliers.

Abstract:We consider de Branges-Rovnyak spaces of a considerably large class of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces and find a characterization for them to be complete Nevanlinna-Pick spaces. This extends as well as recovers earlier characterizations obtained for the Hardy space over the unit disc (\cite{Chu}) as well as for the Drury-Arveson space over the unit ball (\cite{Jesse}). Our characterization takes a complete form for the particular cases of the Hardy space over the polydisc and the Bergman space over the disc. We show that a non-trivial de Branges-Rovnyak space, associated to a contractive multiplier, of the Hardy space over the bidisc or the Bergman space over the unit disc is a complete Nevanlinna-Pick space if and only if it is isometrically isomorphic to the Hardy space over the unit disc. On the contrary, it is shown that non-trivial de Branges-Rovnyak spaces of the Hardy space over the $n$-disc with $n\ge 3$ are never complete Nevanlinna-Pick spaces.

Adelic and Rational Grassmannians for finite dimensional algebras

Abstract:We develop a theory of Wilson's adelic Grassmannian ${\mathrm{Gr}}^{\mathrm{ad}}(R)$ and Segal-Wilson's rational Grasssmannian ${\mathrm{Gr}}^ {\mathrm{rat}}(R)$ associated to an arbitrary finite dimensional complex algebra $R$. We provide several equivalent descriptions of the former in terms of the indecomposable projective modules of $R$ and its primitive idempotents, and prove that it classifies the bispectral Darboux transformations of the $R$-valued exponential function. The rational Grasssmannian $ {\mathrm{Gr}}^{\mathrm{rat}}(R)$ is defined by using certain free submodules of $R(z)$ and it is proved that it can be alternatively defined via Wilson type conditions imposed in a representation theoretic settings. A canonical embedding ${\mathrm{Gr}}^{\mathrm{ad}}(R) \hookrightarrow {\mathrm{Gr}}^{\mathrm{rat}}(R)$ is constructed based on a perfect pairing between the $R$-bimodule of quasiexponentials with values in $R$ and the $R$-bimodule $R[z]$.

Heisenberg varieties and the existence of de Rham lifts

Abstract:Let $F$ be a $p$-adic field. For certain non-abelian nilpotent algebraic groups $U$ over $\bar{\mathbb{Z}}_p$ equipped with $\operatorname{Gal}_F$-action, we study the associated {\it Heisenberg varieties} which model the non-abelian cohomology set ``$H^1(\operatorname{Gal}_F, U)$''. The construction of Heisenberg varieties involves the Herr complexes including their cup product structure. Write $U_n$ for a quasi-split unitary group and assume $p\ne 2$. We classify mod $p$ Langlands parameters for $U_n$ (quasi-split), $\operatorname{SO}_{2n+1}$, $\operatorname{SO}_{2n}$, $\operatorname{Sp}_{2n}$, $\operatorname{GSpin}_{2m}$ and $\operatorname{GSpin}_{2m+1}$ (split) over $F$, and show they are successive Heisenberg-type extensions of elliptic Langlands parameters. We employ the Heisenberg variety to study the obstructions for lifting a non-abelian cocycle along the map $H^1(\operatorname{Gal}_F, U(\bar{\mathbb{Z}}_p))\to H^1(\operatorname{Gal}_F, U(\bar{\mathbb{F}}_p))$. We present a precise theorem that reduces the task of finding de Rham lifts of mod $p$ Langlands parameters for unitary, symplectic, orthogonal, and spin similitude groups to the dimension analysis of specific closed substacks of the reduced Emerton-Gee stacks for the corresponding group. Finally, we carry out the dimension analysis for the unitary Emerton-Gee stacks using the geometry of Grassmannian varieties. The paper culminates in the proof of the existence of potentially crystalline lifts of regular Hodge type for all mod $p$ Langlands parameters for $p$-adic (possibly ramified) unitary groups $U_n$. It is the first general existence of de Rham lifts result for non-split (ramified) groups, and provides evidence for the topological Breuil-Mézard conjecture for more general groups.
