Abstract:To reduce the chattering and overestimation phenomena existing in classical adaptive sliding mode control, this paper presents a new class K_infinity function-based adaptive sliding mode control scheme. Two controllers are proposed in terms of concave and convex barrier functions to implement this kind of control methodology. To avoid large initial control magnitudes, two modified control schemes are provided, which extend the proposed methodology to different scenarios. It is proven that the proposed controllers yield finite-time convergence to a real sliding mode. Finally, simulations and discussions are presented to show the advantages and effectiveness of the proposed control methodology.
Systems and Control
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to solve the chattering and over - estimation phenomena in classical adaptive sliding - mode control. Specifically, the paper proposes an adaptive sliding - mode control scheme based on a new K∞ - type function to reduce these adverse phenomena. The paper designs two controllers by introducing convex - concave barrier functions and further proposes two improved control schemes to avoid excessive initial control amplitudes. The paper proves that the proposed controllers can converge to the true sliding - mode state within a finite time. Finally, the advantages and effectiveness of the proposed control method are demonstrated through simulations and discussions. The core contributions of the paper are as follows: 1. **Reducing chattering**: By using the K∞ - type function and specific barrier functions, the designed controller can effectively mitigate the chattering phenomenon during the control process. 2. **Avoiding over - estimation**: The new control scheme does not have the problem of over - estimating the control gain after reaching the true sliding - mode state. 3. **Enhancing applicability**: The proposed control method is applicable to different scenarios, especially when the system is subject to unknown disturbances, it can ensure the stability and performance of the system. 4. **Fast convergence**: The controller can make the system state converge to the predefined true sliding - mode surface within a finite time. Through these improvements, the paper provides a more robust and effective adaptive sliding - mode control method, which is especially suitable for engineering applications requiring high precision and stability.
