Abstract:In this article we prove an unknottedness result for self shrinkers in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with multiple asymptotically conical ends which bound a handlebody in a natural sense, using the mean curvature flow. As a corollary of this and previous work, asymptotically conical self shrinkers with two ends are unknotted.

Abstract:In this article we extend an unknottedness theorem for compact self shrinkers to the mean curvature flow to shrinkers with one asymptotically conical end, which conjecturally comprises the entire set of self shrinkers with finite topology and one end. The mean curvature flow itself is used in the argument presented.

Abstract:We consider a shrinking flow of smooth, closed, uniformly convex hypersurfaces in (n+1)-dimensional Euclidean space with speed fu^{alpha}{sigma}_n^{beta}, where u is the support function of the hypersurface, alpha, beta are two constants, and beta>0, sigma_n is the n-th symmetric polynomial of the principle curvature radii of the hypersurface. We prove that the flow has a unique smooth and uniformly convex solution for all time, and converges smoothly after normalisation, to a soliton which is a solution of an elliptic equation, when the constants alpha, beta belong to a suitable range, provided the initial hypersuface is origin-symmetric and f is a smooth positive even function on S^n. For the case alpha>= 1+n*beta, beta>0, we prove that the flow converges smoothly after normalisation to a unique smooth solution of an elliptic equation without any constraint on the initial hypersuface and smooth positive function f. When beta=1, our argument provides a uniform proof to the existence of the solutions to the equation of L_p Minkowski problem for p belongs to (-n-1,+infty).

Abstract:In this paper we study a contracting flow of closed, convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space ℝ^n+1 with speed f r^α K, where K is the Gauss curvature, r is the distance from the hypersurface to the origin, and f is a positive and smooth function. If α≥ n+1, we prove that the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly after normalisation to a soliton, which is a sphere centred at the origin if f ≡ 1. Our argument provides a parabolic proof in the smooth category for the classical Aleksandrov problem, and resolves the dual q-Minkowski problem introduced by Huang, Lutwak, Yang and Zhang (Acta Math. 216 (2016): 325-388), for the case q<0. If α < n+1, corresponding to the case q>0, we also establish the same results for even function f and origin-symmetric initial condition, but for non-symmetric f, counterexample is given for the above smooth convergence.

Abstract:In his lecture notes on mean curvature flow, Ilmanen conjectured the existence of noncompact self-shrinkers with arbitrary genus. Here, we employ min-max techniques to give a rigorous existence proof for these surfaces. Conjecturally, the self-shrinkers that we obtain have precisely one (asymptotically conical) end. We confirm this for large genus via a precise analysis of the limiting object of sequences of such self-shrinkers for which the genus tends to infinity. Finally, we provide numerical evidence for a further family of noncompact self-shrinkers with odd genus and two asymptotically conical ends.

Abstract:Using a maximum principle for self-shrinkers of the mean curvature flow, we give new proofs of a rigidity theorem for rotationally symmetric compact self-shrinkers and a result about the asymptotic behavior of self-shrinkers. This comparison argument also implies a linear bound for the second fundamental form of self-shrinking surfaces under natural assumptions. As a consequence, translating solitons can be related to these self-shrinkers.

Abstract:We prove a smooth compactness theorem for the space of embedded self-shrinkers in $\RR^3$. Since self-shrinkers model singularities in mean curvature flow, this theorem can be thought of as a compactness result for the space of all singularities and it plays an important role in studying generic mean curvature flow.

Abstract:For each positive integer $g$ we use variational methods to construct a genus $g$ self-shrinker $\Sigma_g$ in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with entropy less than $2$ and prismatic symmetry group $\mathbb{D}_{g+1}\times\mathbb{Z}_2$. For $g$ sufficiently large, the self-shrinker $\Sigma_g$ has two graphical asymptotically conical ends and the sequence $\Sigma_g$ converges on compact subsets to a plane with multiplicity two as $g\to\infty$. Angenent-Chopp-Ilmanen conjectured the existence of such self-shrinkers in 1995 based on numerical experiments. Using these surfaces as initial conditions for large $g$, we obtain examples of mean curvature flows in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with smooth initial non-compact data that evolve non-uniquely after their first singular time.

Abstract:Let $C$ be an $m$-dimensional cone immersed in $\mathbb{R}^{n+m}$. In this paper, we show that if $F:M^m \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{n+m}$ is a properly immersed mean curvature flow self-shrinker which is smoothly asymptotic to $C$, then it is unique and converges to $C$ with unit multiplicity. Furthermore, if $F_1$ and $F_2$ are self-expanders that both converge to $C$ smoothly asymptotically and their separation decreases faster than $\rho^{-m-1}e^{-\rho^2/4}$ in the Hausdorff metric, then the images of $F_1$ and $F_2$ coincide.

Abstract:We establish Łojasiewicz inequalities for a class of cylindrical self-shrinkers for the mean curvature flow, which includes round cylinders and cylinders over Abresch-Langer curves, in any codimension. We deduce the uniqueness of blowups at singularities modelled on this class of cylinders, and that any such cylinder is isolated in the space of self-shrinkers. The Abresch-Langer case answers a conjecture of Colding-Minicozzi. Our proof uses direct perturbative analysis of the shrinker mean curvature, so it is new even for round cylinders.

Abstract:In this note, we give a new and simple proof of a result in {\cite{DX1}} which states that any smooth complete self-shrinker in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with second fundamental form of constant length must be a generalized cylinder $\mathbb{S}^k \times \mathbb{R}^{2-k}$ for some $k\leq2$. Moreover, we prove a gap theorem for smooth self-shrinkers in all dimensions.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove gap results for complete self-shrinkers of the $r$-mean curvature flow involving a modified second fundamental form. These results extend previous results for self-shrinkers of the mean curvature flow due to Cao-Li and Cheng-Peng. To prove our results we show that, under suitable curvature bounds, proper self-shrinkers are parabolic for a certain second-order differential operator which generalizes the drifted Laplacian and, even if is not proper, this differential operator satisfies an Omori-Yau type maximum principle.

Abstract:We prove a strong Frankel theorem for mean curvature flow shrinkers in all dimensions: Any two shrinkers in a sufficiently large ball must intersect. In particular, the shrinker itself must be connected in all large balls. The key to the proof is a strong Bernstein theorem for incomplete stable Gaussian surfaces.

In particular, we obtain a variety of applications to sequences of Ricci shrinkers converging in a weak pointed sense to a possibly singular limit Ricci shrinker, for instance no new conical end can form in the limit.

Abstract:By the integral method we prove that any space-like entire graphic self-shrinking solution to Lagrangian mean curvature flow in $\R^{2n}_{n}$ with the indefinite metric $\sum_i dx_idy_i$ is flat. This result improves the previous ones in \cite{HW} and \cite{CCY} by removing the additional assumption in their results. In a similar manner, we reprove its Euclidean counterpart which is established in \cite{CCY}.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the pinching phenomena of the tracefree second fundamental form of complete self-shrinkers of higher codimension. Firstly, assuming the mean curvature is nonzero everywhere and the self-shrinker is of polynomial volume growth, we prove that if the tracefree second fundamental form satisfies $||\mathring{A}||_{n}<c(n)$ for a positive constant C ( n ) depending only on the dimension n of the self-shrinker, then it is isometric to the sphere . Secondly, we show if the mean curvature vector H of the self-shrinker satisfies and satisfies $||\mathring{A}||_{n}<d(n,\sup span="" |h|)$ for a positive constant depending on n and , then it is isometric to the Euclidean space . Abstract:In this paper, we prove that for any asymptotically conical self-shrinker, there exists an embedded closed hypersurface such that the mean curvature flow starting from it develops a singularity modeled on the given shrinker. The main technique is the Ważewski box argument, used by Stolarski in the proof of the corresponding theorem in the Ricci flow case. As a corollary, our construction, combined with the works of Angenent--Ilmanen--Velázquez and Chodosh--Daniels-Holgate--Schulze, implies the existence of fattening level set flows starting from smooth embedded closed hypersurfaces. These provide examples related to a question asked by Evans--Spruck.
