Abstract:Recently, Niche [J. Differential Equations, 260 (2016), 4440–4453] established upper bounds on the decay rates of solutions to the 3D incompressible Navier–Stokes–Voigt equations in terms of the decay character r ∗ of the initial data in H 1 ( R 3 ). Motivated by this work, we focus on characterizing the large-time behavior of all space-time derivatives of the solutions for the 2D case and establish upper bounds and lower bounds on their decay rates by making use of the decay character and Fourier splitting methods. In particular, for the case − n 2 < r ∗ ⩽ 1, we verify the optimality of the upper bounds, which is new to the best of our knowledge. Similar improved decay results are also true for the 3D case.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with decay of weak solutions of several well-known incompressible fluid models, such as the n-dimensional ( ) Navier–Stokes equations with fractional hyperviscosity, the three-dimensional convective Brinkman–Forchheimer equations and the generalized SQG equation. A new approach, different from the classical Fourier splitting method develpoed by Schonbek (Commun Partial Differ Equ 11:733–763, 1986) and the spectral representation technique by Kajikiya and Miyakawa (Math Z 192:135-148,1986), is presented. By using the new approach, we can recover and improve some known decay results.

Abstract:We examine the large-time behaviour of solutions to the compressible Navier-Stokes equations under the assumption of radial symmetry. In particular, we calculate a fast time-decay estimate of the norm of the nonlinear part of the solution. This allows us to obtain a bound from below for the time-decay of the solution in $L^\infty$, proving that our decay estimate in that space is sharp. The decay rate is the same as that of the linear problem for curl-free flow. We also obtain an estimate for a scalar system related to curl-free solutions to the compressible Navier-Stokes equations in a weighted Lebesgue space.

Abstract:The present paper is devoted to the proof of time decay estimates for derivatives at any order of finite energy global solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations in general two-dimensional domains. These estimates only depend on the order of derivation and on the L2 norm of the initial data. The same elementary method just based on energy estimates and Ladyzhenskaya inequality also leads to Gevrey regularity results.

Abstract:In this paper, under the hypothesis that ρ is upper bounded, we construct a Lyapunov functional for the multidimensional isentropic compressible Navier–Stokes equations and show that the weak solutions decay exponentially to the equilibrium state in L2 norm. This can be regarded as a generalization of Matsumura and Nishidaʼs results [A. Matsumura, T. Nishida, in: Computing Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering, vol. V, 1982, pp. 389–406], since our analysis is done in the framework of Lions [P.-L. Lions, Oxford Science Publication, 1998] and Feireisl et al. [E. Fereisl, A. Novotny, H. Petzeltová, J. Math. Fluid Mech. 3 (2001) 358–392], the higher regularity of (ρ,u) and the uniformly positive lower bound of ρ are not necessary in our analysis and vacuum may be admitted. Indeed, the upper bound of the density ρ plays the essential role in our proof.
Spatial decay of discretely self-similar solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations

Abstract:Forward self-similar and discretely self-similar weak solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations are known to exist globally in time for large self-similar and discretely self-similar initial data and are known to be regular outside of a space-time paraboloid. In this paper, we establish spatial decay rates for such solutions which hold in the region of regularity provided the initial data has locally sub-critical regularity away from the origin. In particular, we (1) lower the Hölder regularity of the data required to obtain an optimal decay rate for the nonlinear part of the flow compared to the existing literature, (2) establish new decay rates without logarithmic corrections for some smooth data, (3) provide new decay rates for solutions with rough data, and, as an application of our decay rates, (4) provide new upper bounds on how rapidly potentially {non-unique}, scaling invariant local energy solutions can separate away from the origin.

Abstract:In this paper, we derive decay rates of the solutions to the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and Hall-magnetohydrodynamic equations. We first improve the decay rate of weak solutions of these equations by refining the Fourier splitting method with initial data in the space of pseudo-measures. We also deal with these equations with initial data in Lei-Lin spaces and find decay rates of solutions in Lei-Lin spaces.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the decay properties of an axisymmetric D-solutions to stationary incompressible Navier-Stokes systems in $mathbb{R}^3$. We obtain the optimal decay rate $|{bf u}(x)|leq frac{C}{|x|+1}$ for axisymmetric flows without swirl. Furthermore, we find a dichotomy for the decay rates of the swirl component $u_{theta}$, that is, either $O(frac{1}{r+1})leq |u_{theta}(r,z)|leq frac{Clog(r+1)}{(r+1)^{1/2}}$ or $|u_{theta}(r,z)|leq frac{C r}{(rho+1)^3}$, where $rho=sqrt{r^2+z^2}$. In the latter case, we can further deduce that the other two components of the velocity field also attain the optimal decay rates: $|u_r(r,z)|+ |u_{z}(r,z)|leq frac{C}{rho+1}$. We do not require any small assumptions on the forcing term.

Abstract:The generalized three dimensional Navier–Stokes equations with damping are considered. Firstly, existence and uniqueness of strong solutions in the periodic domain are proved for . Then, in the whole space if the critical situation and if with , the decay rate of solution has been established. We give proofs of these two results, based on energy estimates and a series of interpolation inequalities, the key of this paper is to give an explanation for that on the premise of increasing damping term, the well-posedness and decay can still preserve at low dissipation and the relationship between dissipation and damping is given.

Abstract:We discuss optimal estimates of solutions to the compressible Navier-Stokes equations in Besov norms. In particular, we consider the estimate of the curl-free part of the solution to the linearised equations, in the homogeneous case. We prove that our estimate is optimal in the $L^\infty$-norm by showing that the norm is bounded from below by the same decay rate.

Estimates are framed in terms of the decay character of initial data, leading to solutions with algebraic decay and showing in detail the roles played by the linear and nonlinear parts.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the large-time behavior of strong solutions to the Cauchy problem for one-dimensional compressible isentropic magnetohydrodynamic equations near a stable equilibrium. The difference between the one-dimensional and multi-dimensional cases is a feature for compressible flows and also brings new difficulties. In contrast to the multi-dimensional case, the decay rates of nonlinear terms may not be faster than linear terms in dimension one. To handle this, we shall present a new energy estimate in terms of a combination of the solutions with small initial data. We aim to establish the sharp upper and lower bounds on the L 2 -decay rates of the solutions and all their spatial derivatives when the initial perturbation is small in L 1 (R) ∩ H 2 (R). It is worth noticing that there is no decay loss for the highest-order spatial derivatives of the solutions so that the large-time behavior for the hyperbolic-parabolic system is exactly sharp. As a byproduct, the above result is also valid for compressible Navier-Stokes equations. Our approach is based on various interpolation inequalities, energy estimates, spectral analysis, and Fourier time-splitting and high-low frequency decomposition methods.

Global existence and time decay of strong solutions to a fluid-particle coupled model with energy exchanges

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate a three-dimensional fluid-particle coupled model. % in whole space $\mathbb{R}^3$. This model combines the full compressible Navier-Stokes equations with the Vlasov-Fokker-Planck equation via the momentum and energy exchanges. We obtain the global existence and optimal time decay rates of strong solutions to the model in whole space $\mathbb{R}^3$ when the initial data are a small perturbation of the given equilibrium in $H^2$. We show that the $L^2$-norms of the solutions and their gradients decay as $(1+t)^{-3/4}$ and $(1+t)^{-5/4}$ respectively. Moreover, we also obtain the decay rates of solutions in $L^p$-norms for $p\in [2,\infty]$, and the optimal time decay rates of the highest-order derivatives of strong solutions which reads as $(1+t)^{-{7}/{4}}$ in $L^2$-norm. % Our decay rates are consistent with those of non-isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations. When the model is considered in a periodic domain, besides the global existence results, we show the strong solution decay exponentially. Our proofs rely on the energy method, Fourier analysis techniques, and the method of frequency decomposition. And some new ideas are introduced to achieve the desired convergence rates.

Abstract:We study the small data global regularity problem of the \begin{document}$ 3D $\end{document} Vlasov-Poisson system for both the relativistic case and the non-relativistic case. The main goal of this paper is twofold. (i) Based on a Fourier method, which works systematically for both the relativistic case and the non-relativistic case, we give a short proof for the global regularity and the sharp decay estimate for the \begin{document}$ 3D $\end{document} Vlasov-Poisson system. Moreover, we show that the nonlinear solution scatters to a linear solution in both cases. The result of sharp decay estimates for the non-relativistic case is not new, see Hwang-Rendall-Velázquez [9] and Smulevici [23]. (ii) The Fourier method presented in this paper serves as a good comparison for the study of more complicated \begin{document}$ 3D $\end{document} relativistic Vlasov-Nordström system in [24] and \begin{document}$ 3D $\end{document} relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell system in [25].

Abstract:This paper concerns the Cauchy problem of a model system to the radiating gas in Rn. Large time behaviors of classical solutions to the Cauchy problem are studied without needing the smallness assumption of initial perturbation in L-1-norm. We obtain the optimal H-N-norm time-decay rates of the solutions in Rn with 1n4 by applying the Fourier splitting method introduced by Schonbek (1980) with a slight modification and an energy method. Furthermore, when initial perturbation is bounded in L-p-norm (p(1,2]), optimal L-p- L-2 decay estimates of the derivatives of solutions are shown. Copyright (c) 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract:The compressible Navier-Stokes-Smoluchowski equations under investigation concern the behavior of the mixture of fluid and particles at a macroscopic scale. We devote to the existence of the global classical solution near the stationary solution based on the energy method under weaker conditions imposed on the external potential compared with Chen et al. (Global existence and time–decay estimates of solutions to the compressible Navier-Stokes-Smoluchowski equations, Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. 36 (2016), no. 10, 5287–5307). Under further assumptions that the stationary solution ( ρ s ( x ) , 0 , 0 ) T is in a small neighborhood of the constant state ( ρ ̄ , 0 , 0 ) T at infinity, we also obtain the time decay rates of the solution by the combination of the energy method and the linear L p - L q decay estimates.

Abstract:In this paper, the Cauchy problem for the bipolar Navier-Stokes-Poisson system is studied. We obtain the global existence and the Hs decay rate of classical solutions for this problem. Our approach is mainly based on the analysis of the Green's function of the linearized system and some elaborate energy estimates. It should be mentioned that with the help of long wave-short wave decomposition, the decay rate of the higher order derivatives of the solutions is obtained. Furthermore, based on the Hs decay rate of the solutions, we also give the Lp estimate of the solution.

Abstract:We are concerned with the decay estimate of a neutral viscoelastic equation with nonlinear boundary damping and boundary memory effect. We obtain a general decay theorem for the neutral viscoelastic equation by showing that its system energy is controlled by a solution of the associated ODE. Moreover, distinguished from the previous compactness-uniqueness method, we propose an analytical approach to estimate the low-order terms by using the Sobolev imbedding theory.

Abstract:This paper investigates the global well-posedness and large-time behavior of solutions for a coupled fluid model in $\mathbb{R}^3$ consisting of the isothermal compressible Euler-Poisson system and incompressible Navier-Stokes equations coupled through the drag force. Notably, we exploit the dissipation effects inherent in the Poisson equation to achieve a faster decay of fluid density compared to velocities. This strategic utilization of dissipation, together with the influence of the electric field and the damping structure induced by the drag force, leads to a remarkable decay behavior: the fluid density converges to equilibrium at a rate of $(1+t)^{-11/4}$, significantly faster than the decay rates of velocity differences $(1+t)^{-7/4}$ and velocities themselves $(1+t)^{-3/4}$ in the $L^2$ norm. Furthermore, under the condition of vanishing coupled incompressible flow, we demonstrate an exponential decay to a constant state for the solution of the corresponding system, the damped Euler-Poisson system.
