Abstract:We survey some of the connections linking complex dynamics to other fields of mathematics and science. We hope to show that complex dynamics is not just interesting on its own but also has value as an applicable theory.

Abstract:Stochastic dynamics studies various stochastic dynamical processes and phenomena in nature,engineering and society using probability and statistics.After the developments in the last century,nonlinear stochastic dynamics has plenty of theories and methods,among which the theory and method of diffusion processes are dominant.The present paper outlines this theory and method,especially the Hamiltonian theoretical framework of nonlinear stochastic dynamics and control proposed and developed by the present author.Finally,the collaboration of researchers in various fields of stochastic dynamics and control is suggested.

Abstract:One source of beauty in mathematics is totally unexpected connections between two fundamentally different objects. For instance, is it not surprising that the time period of a real simple pendulum is linked with a function arising out of finding the number of ways in which a positive integer could be decomposed as a sum of two squares? Why should inherent properties and interrelations among counting numbers should appear in the laws of nature that govern the motion of a simple pendulum? In this article we will see some such surprising and beautiful results coming from combinatorics, number theory and physics.

Abstract:We consider the general model for dynamical systems defined on a simplicial complex. We describe the conjugacy classes of these systems and show how symmetries in a given simplicial complex manifest in the dynamics defined thereon, especially with regard to invariant subspaces in the dynamics.

Abstract:We introduce the exciting field of complex dynamics at an undergraduate level while reviewing, reinforcing, and extending the ideas learned in an typical first course on complex analysis. Julia sets and the famous Mandelbrot set will be introduced and interesting properties of their boundaries will be described. We will conclude with a discussion of problems at the boundary between complex dynamics and other areas, including a nice application of the material we have learned to a problem in astrophysics.

Abstract:Knots naturally appear in continuous dynamical systems as flow periodic trajectories. However, discrete dynamical systems are also closely connected with the theory of knots and links. For example, for Pixton diffeomorphisms, the equivalence class of the Hopf knot, which is the orbit space of the unstable saddle separatrix in the manifold $\mathbb{S}^2\times \mathbb{S}^1$, is a complete invariant of the topological conjugacy of the system. In this paper we distinguish a class of three-dimensional Morse-Smale diffeomorphisms for which the complete invariant of topological conjugacy is the equivalence class of a link in $\mathbb{S}^2\times \mathbb{S}^1$. We proved that if $M$ is a link complement in $\mathbb{S}^3$ (in particular, is $\mathbb{S}^3$), or a handlebody $H_g$ of genus $g \geq 0$, or closed, connected, orientable 3-manifold, then the set of equivalence classes of tame links in $M$ is countable. As corollary we get that in $\mathbb{S}^2\times \mathbb{S}^1$ there exists a countable number of equivalence classes of tame links. It is proved that any essential link can be realized by a diffeomorphism of the class under consideration.

Abstract:Relations always play an important role in the study of topological dynamics. Proximal, distal and almost periodic relations are well studied in literature. We further this direction and analogously study the strongly proximal and weakly distal relations. This gives a new class of flows - the weakly distal flows. We observe that the well known Morse-Thue substitution flows and Chacon transformations are weakly distal.

Abstract:Complex networks do exist in our lives.The brain is a neural network.The global economy is a network of national economies.Computer viruses routinely spread through the Internet.Food-webs, ecosystems, and metabolic pathways can be represented by networks.Energy is distributed through transportation networks in living organisms, man-made infrastructures, and other physical systems.Dynamic behaviors of complex networks, such as stability, periodic oscillation, bifurcation, or even chaos, are ubiquitous in the real world and often reconfigurable.Networks have been studied in the context of dynamical systems in a range of disciplines.However, until recently there has been relatively little work that treats dynamics as a function of network structure, where the states of both the nodes and the edges can change, and the topology of the network itself often evolves in time.Some major problems have not been fully investigated, such as the behavior of stability, synchronization and chaos control for complex networks, as well as their applications in, for example, communication and bioinformatics.Complex networks have already become an ideal research area for control engineers, mathematicians, computer scientists, and biologists to manage, analyze, and interpret functional information from real-world networks.Sophisticated computer system theories and computing algorithms have been exploited or emerged in the general area of computer mathematics, such as analysis of algorithms, artificial intelligence, automata, computational complexity, computer security, concurrency and parallelism, data structures, knowledge discovery, DNA and quantum computing, randomization, semantics, symbol manipulation, numerical analysis, and mathematical software.This special issue aims to bring together the latest approaches to understanding complex networks from a dynamic system perspective.Topics include, but are not limited to the following aspects of dynamics analysis for complex

Abstract:Spatio-temporal network dynamics is an emergent property of many complex systems which remains poorly understood. We suggest a new approach to its study based on the analysis of dynamical motifs -- small subnetworks with periodic and chaotic dynamics. We simulate randomly connected neural networks and, with increasing density of connections, observe the transition from quiescence to periodic and chaotic dynamics. We explain this transition by the appearance of dynamical motifs in the structure of these networks. We also observe domination of periodic dynamics in simulations of spatially distributed networks with local connectivity and explain it by absence of chaotic and presence of periodic motifs in their structure.

Abstract:In this article, the basic concept about complex networks has been introduced and a review on the recent studies of synchronization of coupled dynamical systems based on complex networks has been presented. We discuss mainly the stability analysis of dynamical networks, the characteristics of synchronization of dynamical systems on complex networks, the effects of geometrical structure of complex networks on the stability of synchronization, and also propose some methods to enhance the ability of complex network synchronization. Finally, some open questions are given for further investigation, and the possible developing direction and its perspectives are estimated.

Abstract:It is shown that any dynamic equation on a configuration bundle $Q\to R$ of non-relativistic time-dependent mechanics is associated with connections on the affine jet bundle $J^1Q\to Q$ and on the tangent bundle $TQ\to Q$. As a consequence, any non-relativistic dynamic equation can be seen as a geodesic equation with respect to a (non-linear) connection on the tangent bundle $TQ\to Q$. Using this fact, the relationship between relativistic and non-relativistic equations of motion is studied. The geometric notions of reference frames and relative accelerations in non-relativistic mechanics are introduced in the terms of connections. The covariant form of non-relativistic dynamic equations is written.

Abstract:We discuss a link between graph theory and geometry that arises when considering graph dynamical systems with odd interactions. The equilibrium set in such systems is not a collection of isolated points, but rather a union of manifolds, which may intersect creating singularities and may vary in dimension. We prove that geometry and stability of such manifolds are governed by combinatorial properties of the underlying graph. In particular, we derive an upper bound on the dimension of the equilibrium set using graph homology and a lower bound using graph coverings. Moreover, we show how graph automorphisms relate to geometric singularities and prove that the decomposition of a graph into $2$-vertex-connected components induces a decomposition of the equilibrium set that preserves three notions of stability.

Abstract:In this study, we delve into a novel dynamic system inspired by Montgomery's pair correlation conjecture in number theory. The dynamic system is intricately designed to emulate the behavior of the nontrivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function. Our exploration encompasses bifurcation analysis and Lyapunov exponents to scrutinize the system's behavior and stability, offering insights into both small and large initial conditions. Our efforts extend to unveiling the probability distribution characterizing the dynamics for varying initial conditions. The dynamic system unfolds intricate behaviors, displaying sensitivity to initial conditions and revealing complex bifurcation patterns. Small deviations in the initial conditions unveil significantly different trajectories, reminiscent of chaotic systems. Lyapunov exponents become our lens into understanding stability and chaos within the system. A comparative analysis between the dynamic system's approximate solutions and the actual nontrivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function enhances our comprehension of model accuracy and its potential implications for number theory. This research illuminates the versatility of dynamic systems as analogs for studying complex mathematical phenomena. It provides fresh perspectives on the pair correlation conjecture, establishing connections with nonlinear dynamics and chaos theory. Notably, we delve into the boundedness of solutions for both small and large initial conditions, unraveling the distinctive probability distribution governing the dynamics in each scenario. Furthermore, we introduce an in-depth analysis of the entropy of our dynamic system for both small and large initial conditions. The entropy study enhances our understanding of the predictability and stability of the system, shedding light on its behavior in different parameter regimes.

Discrete Dynamics in Nature and Society

Abstract:We investigate the coupling of dynamics in coupled map lattices (CMLs) which is not only related to coupled parameter, but also the asynchronization among different mean fields in the lattices. Computer simulations show that the optimal coupling among mean fields can be found from the maximum coupling of dynamics in various CMLs. As a consequence, the application areas of coupled systems may be broadened due to the better understanding of their dynamics.

Abstract:The dynamics by iteration of a function on a compact metric space, sometimes called a cascade, can be extended to the dynamics of a closed relation on such a space. Here we apply this relation dynamics to study semiflows (and their relation extension) as well as hybrid dynamical systems which combine both continuous time and discrete time dynamics. In a unified way we describe the attractor-repeller structure, Conley's chain recurrence relation and the construction of Lyapunov functions for all of these systems.
