The Effects of Compost Extracts of Livestock Manure o n the Chlorophyll Content and the Activity of the Disease Resistance Rela ted Enzymes in Vegetables

Abstract:Compost extracts of livestock manure have remarkable preventive functi on to plant disease. The paper studies the changes of the chlorophyll contents a nd the activity of several enzymes inside three vegetables after they have been treated with compost extracts of pig manure, horse manure and cow manure. The ex periment result shows that, compared with the control, the activity of CAT in le aves of cucumbers,of PPO in leaves of green peppers ,of β 1,3 dextranase in l eaves of tomatoes and the content of chlorophyll in leaves of cucumbers increase d obviously; the activity of PAL, β 1,3 dextranase in leaves of green peppers increased slightly.The paper concluded that as the activity of the enzymes ment ioned above and the chlorophyll contents are in positive relation to the disease resistance of plants, the compost extracts of livestock manure have resistance inducing function to the three vegetables and the compost extracts of pig manure is the most effective among the three types discussed.
