Abstract:“Dongdongtui”, a kind of original sacrificial Nuo opera, was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage protection list in 2006. It only exists in Tianjing village, Xinhuang Dong autonomous county, Hunan province. Previously, the researchers only focused on the study of the intangible cultural heritage value of “Dongdongtui” and the exploration of its inheritance and development. However, due to the internal and external resistance, the government has not achieved good results in the implementation of the action, and the people with insight are unable to protect it. The national inheritor is 90 years old. His disciples are not capable enough to take up the mantle. There are few new students, and the influence of “Dongdongtui” is very limited in the region. “Dongdongtui” is spiritually lack of attraction, penetration, social acceptance and so on. It is facing with a dilemma of inheritance and development. Based on these, we went to the village and got close to “Dongdongtui”, personally felt the charm of masks, costumes and performances, and inquired about its value. Finally, combining with local geography, culture and tourism resources, we tried to propose a new region-wide tourism strategy which is suitable for the development of “Dongdongtui”.

The patterns painted on its body are not only the embodiment of artistic quality, but also contain the totem culture of thousands of years of human civilization and wisdom. Therefore, the author led the social practice team to Huaiyang, the birthplace of NiNigou. By visiting Mr. Ren Guohe, the inheritor of NiNigou culture, I had an in-depth understanding of the production process of NiNigou, the significance of cultural symbols and the contemporary value, so as to explore how to better protect and inherit the intangible cultural heritage of NiNigou.

Abstract:This research focuses on the Tu people’s knowledge preservation at the Nadun Festival in Minhe County, China. As part of the study’s qualitative research method, interviews and observations were done. The results of the study are as follows: The Tu Nadun Festival encourages openness and innovation in the preservation and transmission of its own musical culture, which is deeply rooted in Minhe County’s historical and geographical location along the Silk Road Economic Belt. This centuries-old folk music tradition demonstrates the Tu people’s deep love for life and artistic beauty. While newer Tu generations move for school and employment, the Tu harvest festival remains a beloved cultural monument, fostering family reunions and appreciating the crop. The legends of the Nadun Festival preserve Tu tradition and knowledge. The event, which was traditionally held in open rural regions, has been relocated to town stages and plazas while adhering to strict planning rules. Its many activities, ranging from the Kuai Shou Dance to the Wu Guan Dance, show the Tu people’s transition from military to agrarian society, as well as their capacity to retain information. The ceremony is significant because it preserves cultural traditions and information, which strengthens Tu culture. Tu Nadun music culture in Minhe County combines tradition and creativity, maintaining its history over generations. Despite current trends, the Tu Nadun Festival is an important celebration of their agricultural heritage and cultural identity. With its distinct combination of tradition and change, it guarantees that the Tu people’s history and knowledge will be passed down to future generations.

Abstract:The Nuosu are a subgroup of the so-called Yi ethnic group. Today around two million Nuosu live in Liangshan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province and translocal urban contexts, such as Chengdu and Beijing. For many centuries, the Nuosu have cultivated a belief system composed of a combination of animism and ancestor worship. Since the resurrection of religious activity across China that began in the early 1980s, this faith – represented by the three types of religious practitioners known as bimo, sunyi, and monyi – has reportedly been experiencing a comprehensive revival at folk level. For the bimo, this revival has been paralleled and increasingly overlaid by a scholarly reappraisal of Nuosu religion under premises other than religious. Bimo practice and identity have thus become subsumed under the illustrious concept of “bimo culture”. In this article, I trace the genealogy of the concept of “bimo culture” as part of a cultural canon of and for the Yi which is intended to promote development at the local level but which is also contributing to a weakening of the status of the bimo and Nuosu ritual life in Liangshan today.

Abstract:In order to study the regional Nanfeng Nuo culture artistic characteristics and charm, the development history of Nanfeng Nuo Nuo dance costumes, tracing and Nuo mask as a starting point, through field investigation and data acquisition, combined with professional academic works of Nanfeng Nuo culture artistic charm makes comments on the research objective. First discusses the historical status and significance of Nanfeng Nuo culture, and then combined with the method of literature and on-the-spot investigation, the people familiar with the extent of the Nuo culture view of Nuo culture conducted an investigation and analysis of results, the result showed that most of the local residents in Nanfeng County is familiar to Nuo culture, and rarely people think it is feudal superstition, most people regard Nuo culture as a kind of traditional folk culture, which is conducive to the promotion of Nuo culture and heritage. Finally, combined with the development of tourism projects, the art characteristics and promotion of Nuo culture in Nanfeng County are discussed, which provides a valuable reference for the development and promotion of Nuo culture, folk culture and art in Nanfeng county. Abstract:Combining intangible cultural heritage (ICH) with tourism is one way of protecting living culture, and community residents have long been the most important stakeholders in these efforts. This paper explores the relationship between residents’ role in heritage conservation and heritage tourism and determines a means of protecting ICH by introducing a Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) model and data from a survey and field interviews in Jiangyong, China. The results show that inhabitants’ behavioral attitudes, subjective norms and perceptual behavior control for conserving Nüshu (an ancient and unique women’s written language) have a significant impact on intentions to protect this ICH. The external pressure of subjective norms is more important than any other factor. The sustainable development of tourism and the protection of ICH are complementary, and community involvement is critical for sustaining ICH and developing heritage tourism. Finally, the study highlights several managerial implications.

Abstract:Background and Aims: The musical heritage of the Naxi people, an ethnic minority in Yunnan Province, China, embodies a unique blend of traditional and contemporary influences, serving as a vivid example of cultural resilience. The aim is to analyze the socio-anthropological aspects of the musical characteristics and contemporary status of Naxi Chinese folk songs. Materials and Methods: A qualitative research approach was employed, integrating ethnographic fieldwork in Tacheng Township, Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province, China, semi-structured interviews with three key informants, and participant observation. The data were collected in Tacheng, a region known for its rich Naxi musical culture. This approach allowed for an in-depth exploration of the interactions between the Naxi community and their musical traditions, focusing on how cultural practices are transmitted, adapted, and sustained in contemporary settings. Results: The study revealed that Naxi folk songs, particularly the genre "Guqi," are not only artistic expressions but also crucial carriers of community memory and identity. Adaptation strategies such as incorporation into cultural festivals and modern media were observed. Challenges include a generational gap in the transmission of knowledge and the impact of economic development on traditional practices. Conclusion: Naxi folk songs demonstrate significant resilience through adaptation and continuity, reflecting broader themes of cultural sustainability and identity negotiation. Recommendations for enhancing youth engagement and leveraging digital media for cultural preservation are proposed to ensure the longevity of these musical traditions.
