Abstract:This paper makes an exploration of the relationship between the folk and the enlightening and Lao She the author's psychlogy of writing , which underlines the text of A Camel of Xiangzi. Symbolically, the novel has an implicit structure, namely, a man's path of downfall. In Xiangzi's struggle against the fate, Hunu and Ruan Ming acted only as the roles of lure of the web respectively. And a hierarchic interpretation of the image of Hunu in the novel's explicit structure reveals the rich implication and immortal charm of Hunu as an artistic image both in the folk form and in the real sense of human nature. However, the novel leaves something to be desirable in the later part. As a member of townpeople, Lao She goes beyond his limitations when he describes Xiangzi's charge at the political web. Although he is bitterly critical about the townpeople, he is not likely to create a distillation of spirit.

Abstract:This article is a re-interpretation of modern literary classic Camel Xiangzi.It analyses the diachronic significance of the image "Xiangzi" by applying historical perspective and then the synchronic significance of the image in use of contrast method.With a realistic view,this article demonstrates the eternal value of the image of Xiangzi by means of historical and realistic contrast.A conclusion can be reached from arguments that Camel Xiangzi is an indelible image of a classic;with the advance of the times,understanding of this image not only lets us taste the oppression on people in that era,but conveys the deeper implication in our nation's spiritual and cultural aspects and reflects problems faced by the contemporary immigrants into the cities.

Abstract:Camel Xiangzi has rich connotations as far as its text is concerned.Its aesthetics in narrative is different from traditional novels.The work concentrated on the three times of ups and downs of Qiangzi's rickshaw purchase and pursuit of love.That is to say,Xiangzi underwent three times of ups and downs in physical and mental world,which was how his tragic life came to be.It was the incarnation of Lao She's pessimistic consciousness and fatalism.Hence,we can see that Lao She had penetrated into the deep sense of human nature in terms of reflections of nationalism,in which he made explorations of life from ontological viewpoint.The superorganic aesthetics of his works implies Lao She's innovation in novel creation and his exquisite knowledge of Western and Chinese cultures,on which the new narrative guidelines of literature narration was formed,i.e.,"the mental literature" of "mutual use of humans and things".

Abstract:China modern literature review,after a century's sedimentation,has become mature and profound,though confronted with many difficulties,among them,there are conflict and difficult choices between the East and the West,the traditional and the modern and globalization and domestication.Furthermore,the multi-element co-existing thoughts brought by the post-modernism and the sudden coming of picture-reading era almost destroy the existing speaking mode and discipline system,so we are confronted with many new challenges.How to surpass the difficulty and rebuild the speaking system of literature review so as to build Chinese literature review system of the modern right to speak and the global influence? Abstract:In translation,many translators only emphasize linguistic analysis of the text,while ignore psychological influence of both the author and the main characters.Only by analyzing the text from cultural psychology can we understand its semantic,pragmatic,and stylistic meaning,thus giving the right meanings of words and leading to a good translation.This paper analyzes one of translation versions of Camel Xiangzi by Shi Xiaoran from the perspective of cultural psychology,studying its choice of words and then presents a new angle of interpretation of words.

Abstract:Modern Chinese literature is most open in the history of Chinese literature, with various Western literary currents and cultural trends flooding into China. As the most important and popular genre in Chinese literature, modern Chinese novel has been developing under the Western influence, and it has played a vital role in flourishing modern Chinese literature and enlightening modern Chinese intellectuals and the broad reading public. To the author, toward the end of the nineteenth century, Chinese literature was almost “marginalized”. In order to resume its lost grandeur it moved from periphery to centre by identifying itself with Western cultural modernity or modern Western literature. To realize this grand and ambitious aim, translating novel became an important task. In dealing with the Western influence, the author also reperiodizes twentieth-century Chinese literature: modern literature started with the May 4th Movement in 1919 and ended in 1976; since 1976, Chinese literature has been in the contemporary era, which is characterized by more postmodern than modern. In this global context, Chinese fiction writing has become part of world literature and been developing in a pluralistic direction.

Abstract:Lao She's novel Cat Country, published in 1932, was one of the greatest satirical allegories in world literature, which nearly helped the author win the Nobel Prize for Literature in the year 1966. This essay tries to point out that the novel is a full-scale exposition of the then cultural and political darkness. It forewarns the numb national people that the whole civilization would soon be destroyed, or rather self-destroyed, even without any foreign invasion. Most of the "national flaws'' which led to the complete destruction of Cat Country still persist, to different degrees, in the current Chinese society. The future of our community is contingent on whether we could face and get rid of those "weaknesses.'' But to begin with, the national people have to be awakened to the sordid reality that they have been indulging in for centuries. The essay concludes that Cat Country still bears with it the penetrating satirical power even in the contemporary world, 75 years after its first publication, for the novel has exposed many despicable defects in human nature, which could not be confined to only one single era, or one particular culture.

Abstract:With the development of society, the phenomenon of cultural anomie has gradually begun to intensify, how to resolve the contradiction between traditional culture and modern culture, to explore the precious cultural resources in traditional culture, so as to realize the role of traditional culture in promoting modern society, which has become an important topic at present, and has also aroused strong attention from all walks of life. Our culture has a long history and has been passed on for thousands of years, but because of the social construction and the introduction of foreign culture, there are still many shortcomings in the inheritance of traditional culture, especially in the way of cultural inheritance, many ideas are often limited to the discrimination of the cultural field itself, the refinement of traditional culture and dross to distinguish and comb, so as to achieve the rational critical inheritance of culture. Or by carrying forward the so-called value of traditional culture to confirm the significance of Confucianism in the modern development, or attach importance to the modern interpretation of traditional culture. There is also persistence and find the way of modern development in classical literature, using the values of traditional culture to criticize reality, this is a very wrong phenomenon, which leads to the existence of such a mainstream in society, that is, by promoting traditional culture to meet the demands of the current society. What people feel in the hot field life is the deterioration and flooding of the dross content of traditional culture under the catalysis of market mechanism, and some old ideas and behaviors even have adverse effects on the people. For a large number of such situations, we need to go out of the strange circle of cultural determinism and transfer the center of carrying forward traditional culture to life practice, so as to provide a good soil for the inheritance of traditional culture. This paper takes Zhougezhuang Village, Jimo City, Qingdao as an example to explore how to better infiltrate traditional culture into people's life practice.

Abstract:After the failure of the Reformation Movement,Liang turned to literature and made great efforts in translating western novels which was for him a way of debunking the dark society and bankrupt government,and a way of introducing western civilization to Chinese people.His translation practice can be summarized as choosing political novels as the main subject,retranslating the western works and introducing new terminologies through Japanese,conducting manipulation and rewriting,and using newspapers as forums for translation.His translation theory rooted in Buddhist studies,and is still illuminative for translation studies today.LIANG Qi-chao's translation practice around the turn of the 20th century was ideological,reflecting partially on modern Chinese pioneers' commitments for democracy and freedom in their hard-won procession of learning from the West.

Abstract:As a selfish man,the role Xiangzi in Camel Xiangzi built his beliefs and dreams on his self and was only concerned with himself which predestined his tragic life.When his three life pillars,his desire for sex,for physical body and buying a new rickshaw,were weakened and then broken after experiencing serious hiccups and setbacks in life,and Xiangzi slipped into corruption finally.Undoubtedly he was destroyed by the dark and filthy society at that time,however it was with his selfishness and lack of confidence that his tragic life was doomed.The more selfish and diffident,the more likely he was to be destroyed by the social ills.

Abstract:In this article, the author explores the cosmopolitan elements that are intermingled with his apparently patriotic, even nationalistic, narratives. The author wants to argue that as Lao She's ultimate dream for the entire humanity, this cosmopolitan idealism, or the Great Unity of the world, comes from his own Manchu origin against the backdrop of the Han majority in China, his isolated personal experience as a young lecturer sojourning in London, the bitter experience of him and his family caused by the Western and Japanese invasions, his ambiguous religious beliefs, and his inheritance of the traditional Confucius culturing.

Abstract:Based on a social-historical analysis of "Chinese modernity" and "Chinese cultural identity" in the context of social transformation,i.e.recovering the face of modernity as a "historical event" since the late Qing Dynasty,we can conclude "the Deng Zhenglai Question" deals with the pathology of "crisis of cultural identity" and "absence of Confucian orthodoxy" in our time.Because of the coexistence of pressure of rightness and crisis of identity in contemporary China,we are supposed to shape a new cultural identity which can response to the pressure of rightness,and seek for a "hybridity identity" among Confucian tradition,socialist tradition and partial western tradition.When reconstructing the cultural identity,we should act up to "the Precept by Deng Zehngali-Wang Hui & Deng Xiaomang-Qing Hui",which means the constriction of a "new civilization"(in the sense of Liang Qichao) between China and the West,neither returning to the tradition unconditionally nor adhering to the West unreflectedly.

Abstract:Cultural conflicts often give rise to a tendency to subject the absent other to a willful misrepresentation and reprehension,preventing people from getting at the real other.This tendency asserted itself in the 1949～1966 Chinese translations of Anglo-American realist literature.As a result of China's conflict with the West during this period,such translations tended to be manipulated to such an extent that they showed the absent Other in a negative light and distorted both the literary and the real-life world of the West.

Abstract:By scrutinizing themes of areas in novels of the 1950s and 60s in China from the perspective of modernity,this paper attempts to consider both the historical rationality and the excessive ideological inclination of representation in novels of themes.Since the Chinese revolution aims at reestablishing history upon the social basis with poor peasants as its principal body,a new type of history in culture should be developed accordingly by repelling the enlightenment culture of Chinese modernity based on national bourgeoisie and by establishing a type of culture with peasants and the area as the principal body.As the initial resource for the establishment of socialist revolutionary literature,the works by Zhao Shuli did not portray intense class struggle or contain descriptions of bloody violence,because works of such mild emotions as those by Zhao Shuli were then needed to console peasants,which indicates the practical relationship between literature and revolution.As for socialist revolution,literature is needed not only to delineate radical prospective images but also to actually comfort society mainly composed of peasants by way of traditional artistic modes of expression loved the people.This is the very paradox between the revolutionariness of ideology and the national features of the artistic pattern embodied by the rural subject matter.
