Abstract:It is well-known that the set of statistics that can be observed in a Bell-type experiment is limited by quantum theory. Unfortunately, tools are missing to identify the precise boundary of this set. Here, we propose to study the set of quantum statistics from a dual perspective. By considering all Bell expressions saturated by a given realization, we show that the CHSH expression can be decomposed in terms of extremal Tsirelson inequalities that we identify. This brings novel insight into the geometry of the quantum set in the (2,2,2) scenario. Furthermore, this allows us to identify all the Bell expressions that are able to self-test the Tsirelson realization.

Abstract:We consider conic inequality systems of the type$F(x)\ge_K 0$, with approximate solution $x_0$ associated to a parameter $\tau$,where $F$ is a twice Fréchet differentiable function between Hilbert spaces $X$ and $Y$, and$\ge_K$ is the partial order in $Y$ defined by anonempty convex (not necessarily closed) cone $K\subseteq Y$.We prove that, under the suitable conditions,the system $F(x)\ge_K 0$is solvable, and the ratio of the distance from $x_0$ to the solution set $S$ over the distance from $F(x_0)$ to the cone $K$ has anupper bound given explicitlyin terms of $\tau$ and $x_0$. We show that the upper bound is sharp.Applications to analytic function inequality/equality systems on Euclidean spaces are given,and the corresponding results of Dedieu [ SIAM J. Optim. , 11 (2000), pp. 411--425] are extended and significantly improved.

Abstract:We study two variations of the classical one-delta problem for entire functions of exponential type, known also as the Carathéodory--Fejér--Turán problem. The first variation imposes the additional requirement that the function is radially decreasing while the second one is a generalization which involves derivatives of the entire function. Various interesting inequalities, inspired by results due to Duffin and Schaeffer, Landau, and Hardy and Littlewood, are also established.

Abstract:In this article, we review the relationship between Bell inequality and its associated polytopes and introduce a method to extend Bell inequalities to more parties. According to this method, the Bell inequality in n parties can be extended to n + 1 parties. Such generalization is nontrivial in that there is stronger violation for new inequalities.

Abstract:We describe a method of extending Bell inequalities from n to n+ 1 parties and formulate sufficient conditions for our method to produce tight inequalities from tight inequalities. The method is nontrivial in the sense that the inequalities produced by it, when applied to entangled quantum states may be violated stronger than the original inequalities. In other words, the method is capable of generating inequalities which are more powerful indicators of nonclassical correlations than the original inequalities.
On Fefferman--Stein type inequality on Shilov boundaries and applications

Abstract:In this paper, we establish the Fefferman--Stein type inequality for area integral and non-tangential maximal function on the Shilov boundary studied by Nagel and Stein in 2004. The technique here is inspired by Fefferman--Stein (1972) and Merryfield (1985) but we bypass the use of Fourier or group structure as these were not available on the polynomial domains of finite type. Direct applications include the maximal function characterisation of product Hardy space and the weak type endpoint estimate for product Calderón--Zygmund operators (such as the Cauchy--Szegő projection) on the Shilov boundary.

Abstract:Newton's second law aids us in predicting the location of a classical object after knowing its initial position and velocity together with the force it experiences at any time, which can be seen as a process of continuous iteration. When it comes to discrete problems, e.g. building Bell inequalities, as a vital tool to study the powerful nonlocal correlations in quantum information processing. Unless having known precisely the general formula of associated inequalities, iterative formulas build a bridge from simple examples to all elements in the set of Bell inequalities. Although exhaust all entities in the set, even in the subset of tight individuals, is a NP hard problem, it is possible to find out the evolution law of Bell inequalities from few-body, limited-setting and low-dimension situations to arbitrary $(n,k,d)$ constructions, i.e. $n$ particles, $k$ measurements per particle, and $d$ outcomes per measurement. In this work, via observing Śliwa's 46 tight (3,2,2) Bell inequalities [{Phys. Lett. A}. 317, 165-168 (2003)], uniting the root method [{Phys. Rev. A}. 79, 012115, (2009)] and the idea of degeneration, we discover an iterative formula of Bell inequalities containing all $(n,k,2)$ circumstances, which paves a potential way to study the current Bell inequalities in terms of iterative relations combining root method on the one hand, and explore more interesting inequalities on the other.
Some exact constants for bilateral approximations in quasi-normed groups

Abstract:We establish inverse and direct theorems on best approximations in quasi-normed Abelian groups through bilateral Bernstein-Jackson inequalities with exact constants. Using integral representations for quasi-norms of functions $f$ in Lebesgue's spaces by decreasing rearrangements $f^*$ with the help of approximation $E$-functionals, error estimates are found. Examples of numerical calculations and spectral approximations of self-adjoint operators obtained by obtained estimates are given.

Bellʼs Inequality and Extremal Non-Local Box from Hardyʼs Test for Non-Locality

Abstract:Bell showed 50 years ago that quantum theory is non-local via his celebrated inequalities, turning the issue of quantum non-locality from a matter of taste into a matter of test. Years later, Hardy proposed a test for non-locality without inequality, which is a kind of 'something-versus-nothing' argument. Hardy's test for n particles induces an n-partite Bell's inequality with two dichotomic local measurements for each observer, which has been shown to be violated by all entangled pure states. Our first result is to show that the Bell-Hardy inequality arising form Hardy's non-locality test is tight for an arbitrary number of parties, i.e., it defines a facet of the Bell polytope in the given scenario. On the other hand quantum theory is not that non-local since it forbids signaling and even not as non-local as allowed by non-signaling conditions, i.e., quantum mechanical predictions form a strict subset of the so called non-signaling polytope. In the scenario of each observer measuring two dichotomic observables, Fritz established a duality between the Bell polytope and the non-signaling polytope: tight Bell's inequalities, the facets of the Bell polytope, are in a one-to-one correspondence with extremal non-signaling boxes, the vertices of the non-signaling polytope. Our second result is to provide an alternative and more direct formula for this duality. As an example, the tight Bell-Hardy inequality gives rise to an extremal non-signaling box that serves as a natural multipartite generalization of Popescu-Rohrlich box.

Abstract:This paper develops new extremal principles of variational analysis that are motivated by applications to constrained problems of stochastic programming and semi-infinite programming without smoothness and/or convexity assumptions. These extremal principles concern measurable set-valued mappings/multifunctions with values in finite-dimensional spaces and are established in both approximate and exact forms. The obtained principles are instrumental to derive via variational approaches integral representations and upper estimates of regular and limiting normals cones to essential intersections of sets defined by measurable multifunctions, which are in turn crucial for novel applications to stochastic and semi-infinite programming.

Abstract:Let p,q≥1 be two real numbers such that 1p+1q=1, and let a,b∈R be two parameters defined on the domain of a function, for example, f. Based on the well known Hölder inequality, we propose a generic inequality of the form |f(ap+bq)|≤|f(a)|1p|f(b)|1q, and show that many basic special functions, such as the gamma and polygamma functions, Riemann zeta function, beta function and Gauss and confluent hypergeometric functions, satisfy this type of inequality. In this sense, we also present some particular inequalities for the Gauss and confluent hypergeometric functions to confirm the main obtained inequalities.

Bounding Large-Scale Bell Inequalities

Abstract:Bell inequalities are an important tool for studying non-locality, however quickly become computationally intractable as the system size grows. We consider a novel method for finding an upper bound for the quantum violation of such inequalities by combining the NPA hierarchy, the method of alternating projections, and the memory-efficient optimisation algorithm L-BFGS. Whilst our method may not give the tightest upper bound possible, it often does so several orders of magnitude faster than state-of-the-art solvers, with minimal memory usage, thus allowing solutions to problems that would otherwise be intractable. We benchmark using the well-studied I3322 inequality as well as a more general large-scale randomized inequality RXX22. For randomized inequalities with 130 inputs either side (a first-level moment matrix of size 261x261), our method is ~100x faster than both MOSEK and SCS whilst giving a bound only ~2% above the optimum.

Abstract:Elegant Bell inequality is well known for its much exploited property, being maximally violated by maximal entanglement, mutually unbiased bases, and symmetric informationally complete positive operator-valued measure elements. It is the only one with such property known so far. We present a method to construct Bell inequalities with violation feature analogous to original elegant Bell inequality in high dimension from a simple analytic quantum bound. A Bell inequality with such feature is derived in three dimension for the first time. It shows larger violation than existing Bell inequalities of similar classes while requiring arguably small number of measurements.
