Abstract:We study the existence of global boundedness solutions to the fully parabolic chemotaxis systems with logistic sources, $ru- \mu u^2$, under nonlinear Neumann boundary conditions, $\frac{\partial u}{\partial \nu }= |u|^p$ where $p >1 $ in smooth bounded domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ with $n \geq 2$. A recent study by Le (2023) has shown that the logistic sources can ensure that solutions are global and bounded when $n =2$ with $p < \frac{3}{2}$ and $n=3$ with $p <\frac{7}{5}$. In this paper, we extend the previous findings by demonstrating the existence of global bounded solutions when $p< \frac{3}{2}$ in any spatial dimension $n \geq 2$.

In the above system without fluid environment Jin (J. Differential Equations, 2017) showed existence and boundedness of global weak solutions. On the other hand, in the above system with $m=1$, Lankeit (Math.\ Models Methods Appl. Sci., 2016) established global existence of weak solutions. However, the above system with $m>0$ has not been studied yet. The purpose of this talk is to establish global existence of weak solutions in the chemotaxis-Navier--Stokes system with degenerate diffusion and logistic term.

Abstract:We analyze a diffuse interface model that describes the dynamics of incompressible two-phase flows influenced by interactions with a soluble chemical substance, encompassing the chemotaxis effect, mass transport, and reactions. In the resulting coupled evolutionary system, the macroscopic fluid velocity field $\boldsymbol{v}$ satisfies a Navier--Stokes system driven by a capillary force, the phase field variable $\varphi$ is governed by a convective Cahn--Hilliard equation incorporating a mass source and a singular potential (e.g., the Flory--Huggins type), and the chemical concentration $\sigma$ obeys an advection-reaction-diffusion equation with logistic degradation, exhibiting a cross-diffusion structure akin to the Keller--Segel model for chemotaxis. Under general structural assumptions, we establish the existence of global weak solutions to the initial boundary value problem within a bounded smooth domain $\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^d$, $d=2,3$. The proof hinges on a novel semi-Galerkin scheme for a suitably regularized system, featuring a non-standard approximation of the singular potential. Moreover, with more restrictive assumptions on coefficients and data, we establish regularity properties and uniqueness of global weak solutions in the two-dimensional case. Our analysis contributes to a further understanding of phase separation processes under the interplay of fluid dynamics and chemotaxis, in particular, the influence of cross diffusion and logistic degradation.

Abstract:Systems of the type $$\begin{cases} u_t = \nabla \cdot (D_1(u) \nabla u - S_1(u) \nabla v) + f_1(u, v),\\ v_t = \nabla \cdot (D_2(v) \nabla v + S_2(v) \nabla u) + f_2(u, v) \end{cases} \qquad (\star)$$ can be used to model pursuit-evasion relationships between predators and prey. Apart from local kinetics given by $f_1$ and $f_2$, the key components in this system are the taxis terms $-\nabla \cdot (S_1(u) \nabla v)$ and $+\nabla \cdot (S_2(v) \nabla u)$; that is, the species are not only assumed to move around randomly in space but are also able to partially direct their movement depending on the nearby presence of the other species. In the present article, we construct global weak solutions of ($\star$) for certain prototypical nonlinear functions $D_i$, $S_i$ and $f_i$, $i \in \{1, 2\}$. To that end, we first make use of a fourth-order regularization to obtain global solutions to approximate systems and then rely on an entropy-like identity associated with ($\star$) for obtaining various a~priori estimates.

Abstract:Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, Ahead of Print. This paper mainly deals with a self-consistent chemotaxis-Navier–Stokes system with porous medium diffusion in a three-dimensional (3D) bounded and smooth domain. The novelty here is that both the effect of gravity (potential force) on cells and the effect of the chemotactic force on fluid are considered, which leads to stronger coupling than the usual chemotaxis-fluid model studied in most existing literatures. It is proved that for any suitably regular initial data, the associated no-flux/no-flux/Dirichlet problem possesses at least one global weak solution or global very weak solution. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first result on the global solvability of the 3D self-consistent chemotaxis-Navier–Stokes system with porous medium diffusion. Our results inter alia provide a more in-depth understanding on the chemotaxis-Navier–Stokes system, and significantly improve previously known ones.

Abstract:In this work, we study the doubly degenerate nutrient taxis system with logistic source \begin{align} \begin{cases}\tag{$\star$}\label{eq 0.1} u_t=\nabla \cdot(u^{l-1} v \nabla u)- \nabla \cdot\left(u^{l} v \nabla v\right)+ u - u^2, \\ v_t=\Delta v-u v \end{cases} \end{align} in a smooth bounded domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^2$, where $l \geqslant 1$. It is proved that for all reasonably regular initial data, the corresponding homogeneous Neumann initial-boundary value problem \eqref{eq 0.1} possesses a global weak solution which is continuous in its first and essentially smooth in its second component. We point out that when $l = 2$, our result is consistent with that of [G. Li and M. Winkler, Analysis and Applications, (2024)].

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate an initial-boundary value problem for a chemotaxis-fluid system in a general bounded regular domain Omega subset of R-N (N is an element of{2, 3}), not necessarily being convex. Thanks to the elementary lemma given by Mizoguchi and Souplet [Ann. Inst. H. Poincare - AN 31 (2014), 851-875], we can derive a new type of entropy-energy estimate, which enables us to prove the following: (1) for N = 2, there exists a unique global classical solution to the full chemotaxis-Navier-Stokes system, which converges to a constant steady state (n(infinity), 0, 0) as t -> +infinity, and (2) for N = 3, the existence of a global weak solution to the simplified chemotaxis-Stokes system. Our results generalize the recent work due to Winkler [Commun. Partial Diff. Equ. 37 (2012), 319-351; Arch. Rational Mech. Anal. 211 (2014), 455-487], in which the domain Omega is essentially assumed to be convex.

Abstract:We consider the chemotaxis-Navier-Stokes system with generalized fluid dissipation in $\mathbb{R}^3$: \begin{eqnarray*} \begin{cases} \partial_t n+u\cdot \nabla n=\Delta n- \nabla \cdot (\chi(c)n \nabla c),\\ \partial_t c+u \cdot \nabla c=\Delta c-nf(c),\\ \partial_t u +u \cdot \nabla u+\nabla P=-(-\Delta)^\alpha u-n\nabla \phi,\\ \nabla \cdot u=0, \end{cases} \end{eqnarray*} which describes the motion of swimming bacteria or bacillus subtilis suspended to water flows. First, we prove some blow-up criteria of strong solutions to the Cauchy problem, including the Prodi-Serrin type criterion ($\alpha>\frac{3}{4}$) and the Beir${\rm\tilde{a}}$o da Veiga type criterion $(\alpha>\frac{1}{2})$. Then, we verify the global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions for arbitrarily large initial fluid velocity and bacteria density for $\alpha\geq \frac{5}{4}$. Furthermore, in the scenario of $\frac{3}{4}<\alpha<\frac{5}{4}$, we establish uniform regularity estimates and optimal time-decay rates of global solutions if the $L^2$-norm of initial data is small. To our knowledge, this is the first result concerning the global existence and large-time behavior of strong solutions for the chemotaxis-Navier-Stokes equations with possibly large oscillations.

Abstract:Global existence and boundedness of solutions to the Cauchy problem for the four dimensional fully parabolic chemotaxis system with indirect signal production are studied. We prove that solutions with initial mass below $(8\pi)^2$ exist globally in time. This value $(8\pi)^2$ is known as the four dimensional threshold value of the initial mass determining whether blow-up of solutions occurs or not. Furthermore, some condition on the initial mass guaranteeing that the solution remains uniformly bounded is also obtained.

Abstract:In this paper we study the existence of solutions of a parabolic-elliptic system of partial differential equations describing the behaviour of a biological species $u$ and a chemical stimulus $v$ in a bounded and regular domain $\Omega$ of $\mathbb{R}^N$. The equation for $u$ is a parabolic equation with a nonlinear second order term of chemotaxis type with flux limitation as $ -\chi div (u |\nabla \psi|^{p-2} \nabla v)$, for $p>1$. The chemical substance distribution $v$ satisfies the elliptic equation $-\Delta v+v=u$. The evolution of $u$ is also determined by a logistic type growth term $\mu u(1-u)$. The system is studied under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. The main result of the article is the existence of uniformly bounded solutions for $p<3/2$ and any $N\ge 2$.
