Abstract:The Lie point symmetries and corresponding invariant solutions are obtained for a Gaussian, irrotational, compressible fluid flow. A supersymmetric extension of this model is then formulated through the use of a superspace and superfield formalism. The Lie superalgebra of this extended model is determined and a classification of its subalgebras is performed. The method of symmetry reduction is systematically applied in order to derive special classes of invariant solutions of the supersymmetric model. Several new types of algebraic, hyperbolic, multi-solitonic and doubly periodic solutions are obtained in explicit form.

Abstract:Following the construction of a model for the planar supersymmetric Chaplygin gas, supersymmetric fluid mechanics in (1+1)-dimensions is obtained from the light-cone parametrized Nambu-Goto superstring in (2+1)-dimensions. The lineal model is completely integrable and can be formulated neatly using Riemann coordinates. Infinite towers of conserved charges and supercharges are exhibited. They form irreducible representations of a dynamical (hidden) SO(2,1) symmetry group.

Abstract:We study dynamics of (anomalous) Galilean superfluid up to first order in derivative expansion, both in parity-even and parity-odd sectors. We construct a relativistic system -- null superfluid, which is a null fluid (introduced in [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1509.04718" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1509.04718">arXiv:1509.04718</a>]) with a spontaneously broken global $U(1)$ symmetry. A null superfluid is in one to one correspondence with Galilean superfluid in one lower dimension, i.e. they have same symmetries, thermodynamics, constitutive relations and are related to each other by a mere choice of basis. The correspondence is based on null reduction, which is known to reduce the Poincaré symmetry of a theory to Galilean symmetry in one lower dimension. To perform this analysis, we use offshell formalism of (super)fluid dynamics, adopting it appropriately to null (super)fluids.

A Supersymmetric Generalized NLS Equation: Linear Spectral Problems and Beyond

Abstract:For a supersymmetric generalized nonlinear Schrödinger (sgNLS) equation, a prolongation algebra 𝔏 is determined via the super-version of Wahlquist–Estabrook prolongation method. 𝔏 is successfully realized in terms of the simple Lie superalgebra A(1,1) , and a linear spectral problem is established for the sgNLS equation. Based on the linear spectral problem, a recursion operator is derived, and its factorization yields a Hamiltonian operator. These properties for sgNLS equation reduce to the properties of the case B supersymmetric NLS equation of Roelofs and Kersten (J Math Phys 33:2185–2206, 1992), so that the integrability of the latter is better understood. Moreover, an answer is provided to an open question addressed by Roelofs and Kersten.

By considering Landau level projections remaining non trivial under N=1 supersymmetry transformations, the algebraic structures of the N=1 supersymmetric covariant non(anti)commutative superplane analogue of the ordinary N=0 noncommutative Moyal-Voros plane are identified.

Abstract:In Pitaevskii (Sov Phys JETP 35(8):282–287, 1959), a micro-scale model of superfluidity was derived from first principles, to describe the interacting dynamics between the superfluid and normal fluid phases of Helium-4. The model couples two of the most fundamental PDEs in mathematics: the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) and the Navier–Stokes equations (NSE). In this article, we show the local existence of solutions—strong in wavefunction and velocity, weak in density—to this system in a smooth bounded domain in 3D, by deriving the required a priori estimates. (We will also establish an energy inequality obeyed by the weak solutions constructed in Kim (SIAM J Math Anal 18(1):89–96, 1987) for the incompressible, inhomogeneous NSE.) To the best of our knowledge, this is the first rigorous mathematical analysis of a bidirectionally coupled system of the NLS and NSE.

Abstract:In this paper we study systematically the question of supersymmetrization of the non-local gas equation. We obtain both the N=1 and the N=2 supersymmetric generalizations of the system which are integrable. We show that both the systems are bi-Hamiltonian. While the N=1 supersymmetrization allows the hierarchy of equations to be extended to negative orders (local equations), we argue that this is not the case for the N=2 supersymmetrization. In the bosonic limit, however, the N=2 system of equations lead to a new coupled integrable system of equations.

In particular, three functionally independent Grassmann-odd constants of the motion are given and their algebraic resolvability is proven. The supersymmetric generalization is used to build a novel integrable isospin extension of the Ruijsenaars-Schneider three-body system.

Abstract:We investigate the symmetry properties of hierarchies of non-linear Schroedinger equations (introduced by Doebner and Goldin, and Goldin and Svetlichny), which describe non-interacting systems in which tensor product wave-functions evolve by independent evolution of the factors (the separation property). We show that there are obstructions to lifting symmetries existing at a certain number of particles to higher numbers. Such obstructions vanish for particles without internal degrees of freedom and the usual space-time symmetries. For particles with internal degrees of freedom, such as spin, these obstructions are present and their circumvention requires a choice of a new term in the equation for each particle number. A Lie-algebra approach for non-linear theories is developed.

Schrödinger Symmetry in Gravitational Mini-Superspaces

Abstract:We prove that the simplest gravitational symmetry reduced models describing cosmology and black holes mechanics are invariant under the Schrödinger group. We consider the flat FRW cosmology filled with a massless scalar field and the Schwarzschild black hole mechanics, construct their conserved charges using the Eisenhart-Duval (ED) lift method and show that they form a Schrödinger algebra. Our method illustrates how the ED lift and the more standard approach analyzing the geometry of the field space are complementarity in revealing different set of symmetries of these systems. We further identify an infinite-dimensional symmetry for those two models, generated by conserved charges organized in two copies of a Witt algebra. These extended charge algebras provide a new algebraic characterization of these homogeneous gravitational sectors. They guide the path to their quantization and open the road to non-linear extensions of quantum cosmology and quantum black holes models in terms of hydrodynamic equations in field space.

Abstract:By means of the classical symmetry method, we investigate the (2+1)-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. The symmetry group of Navier-Stokes equations is studied and its corresponding group invariant solutions are constructed. Ignoring the discussion of the infinite-dimensional subalgebra, we construct an optimal system of one-dimensional group invariant solutions. Furthermore, using the associated vector fields of the obtained symmetry, we give out the reductions by one-dimensional and two-dimensional subalgebras, and some explicit solutions of Navier-Stokes equations are obtained. For three interesting solutions, the figures are given out to show their properties: the solution of stationary wave of fluid (real part) appears as a balance between fluid advection (nonlinear term) and friction parameterized as a horizontal harmonic diffusion of momentum.

Abstract:The $T\bar{T}$ deformation of a supersymmetric two-dimensional theory preserves the original supersymmetry. Moreover, in several interesting cases the deformed theory possesses additional non-linearly realized supersymmetries. We show this for certain $\mathcal N =(2,2)$ models in two dimensions, where we observe an intriguing similarity with known $\mathcal N=1 $ models in four dimensions. This suggests that higher-dimensional models with non-linearly realized supersymmetries might also be obtained from $T\bar{T}$-like flow equations. We show that in four dimensions this is indeed the case for $\mathcal N=1 $ Born-Infeld theory, as well as for the Goldstino action for spontaneously broken $\mathcal N=1 $ supersymmetry.

Hydrodynamic equations for a U(N) invariant superfluid

Abstract:In this paper, we develop the appropriate set of hydrodynamic equations in a U(N) invariant superfluid that couple the dynamics of superflow and magnetization. In the special case when both the superfluid and normal velocities are zero, the hydrodynamic equations reduce to a generalized version of Landau-Lifshitz equation for ferromagnetism with U(N) symmetry. When both velocities are non-zero, there appears couplings between the superflow and magnetization dynamics, and the superfluid velocity no longer satisfies the irrotational condition. On the other hand, the magnitude of magnetization is no longer a constant of motion as was the case for the standard Landau-Lifshitz theory. In comparison with the simple superfluid, the first sound and second sounds are modified by a non-zero magnetization through various thermodynamic functions. For U(2) invariant superfluid, we get both (zero-) sound wave and a spin wave at zero temperature. It is found that the dispersion of spin wave is always quadratic, which is consistent with detailed microscopic analysis. In the Appendix, we show that the hydrodynamic equation for a U(N) invariant superfluid can be obtained from the general hydrodynamic equation with arbitrary internal symmetries.

Abstract:Integrability of N=1 supersymmetric Ruijsenaars-Schneider three-body models based upon the potentials W(x)=2/x, W(x)=2/sin(x), and W(x)=2/sinh(x) is proven. The problem of constructing an algebraically resolvable set of Grassmann-odd constants of motion is reduced to finding a triplet of vectors such that all their scalar products can be expressed in terms of the original bosonic first integrals. The supersymmetric generalizations are used to build novel integrable (iso)spin extensions of the respective Ruijsenaars-Schneider three-body systems.

Non-Abelian R-symmetries in $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetry

Abstract:We investigate non-Abelian R-symmetries in $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric theory, where fields may transform under the R-symmetry in representations with dimension higher than one. While a continuous non-Abelian R-symmetry can always be decomposed to a $U(1)$ R-symmetry and non-R symmetries, there are non-trivial discrete non-Abelian R-symmetries that do not admit such a decomposition, and effective R-charges cannot be defined in such models. Previous results on sufficient conditions for R-symmetric supersymmetric vacua in Wess-Zumino models still hold, and do not depend on fields in representations of dimension greater than one. However, fields in higher-dimensional representations enter the sufficient conditions for supersymmetric vacua that break R-symmetry, but it is difficult to identify the independent variables which can be used to solve the F-flatness equation in this case, unless other conditions are fulfilled. We present examples with discrete non-Abelian R-symmetries of the lowest order in this case.
