Abstract:To study the prescribed $k$ -curvature problem of 2nd-order symmetric curvature tensors on complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds, we consider a class of fully nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations. It is proved that on a Riemannian manifold with negative sectional curvature and Ricci curvature bounded from below, the equation is solvable provided that all the eigenvalues of the tensor are negative. The result is applicable to the prescribed $k$ -curvature problems of modified Schouten tensor and Bakry–Émery Ricci tensor.

Abstract:In this paper we study the existence of closed convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space Rn+1 such that a Weingarten curvature, regarded as a function of their unit normal, is equal to a given positive function on the unit sphere Sn. Two classical problems of this type, namely the Christoffel problem [6] and the Minkowski problem [16], which address respectively the cases of harmonic and Gauss curvature, were completely solved in the 1970’s [7,9,17]. Besides the harmonic and Gauss curvatures, the most interesting Weingarten curvatures are probably the mean curvature, or more generally the k-curvatures (1 ≤ k ≤ n)

Abstract:In this paper, we study the problem of conformally deforming a metric to a prescribed kth order symmetric function of the eigenvalues of the Schouten tensor on compact Riemannian manifolds with totally geodesic boundary. We prove the solvability of the problem and the compactness of the solution set for the case k >= n/2, provided the conformal class admits a k-admissible metric. These results have been proved by Gursky and Viaclovsky, Trudinger and Wang for the manifolds without boundary, and by Jin et al. and S. Chen for the locally conformally flat manifolds with boundary.

Abstract:Let M be a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension n > 2. The k-curvature, for k = 1,2,...,n, is defined as the k-th elementary symmetric polynomial of the eigenvalues of the Schouten tenser. The k-Yamabe problem is to prove the existence of a conformal metric whose k-curvature is a constant. When k = 1, it reduces to the well-known Yamabe problem. Under the assumption that the metric is admissible, the existence of solutions is known for the case k = 2, n = 4, for locally conformally flat manifolds and for the cases k > n/2. In this paper we prove the solvability of the k-Yamabe problem in the remaining cases k ≤ n/2, under the hypothesis that the problem is variational. This includes all of the cases k = 2 as well as the locally conformally flat case.

Abstract:The authors consider the problem of conformally deforming a metric such that the k-curvature defined by an elementary symmetric function of the eigenvalues of the Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor on a compact manifold with boundary to a prescribed function. A consequence of our main result is that there exists a complete metric such that the Monge-Ampère type equation with respect to its Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor is solvable, provided that the initial Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor belongs to a negative convex cone.

Abstract:In this paper, we solve a class of Neumann problems on a manifold with totally geodesic smooth boundary. As a consequence, we also solve the prescribing k-curvature problem of the modified Schouten tensor on such manifolds; that is, if the initial k-curvature of the modified Schouten tensor is positive for tau > n - 1 or negative for tau < 1, then there exists a conformal metric such that its k-curvature defined by the modified Schouten tensor equals some prescribed function and the boundary remains totally geodesic.

Abstract:We consider the following prescribed curvature problem involving polyharmonic operator on SN : Dmu = K(|y|)um*-1, u > 0 in SN, u is an element of Hm(SN), where K(|y|) is a positive function, m* = 2N N-2m is the critical exponent of Sobolev embedding, N > 6m. Dm is the 2m order differential operator given by Dm = pi m l=1 1 (-Delta g + 4 (N - 2l)(N + 2l - 2)), where Delta g is the Laplace-Beltrami operator on SN, and SN is the unit sphere with Riemann metric g. By applying the non-degenerate result of positive multi-bubbling solutions constructed in [15], we construct new type solutions by using Lyaponov Schmidt reduction arguments combining with the gluing method. One will see that this type of new solution is difficult to be obtained through direct critical theory and reduction argument. We consider the problem from a different point of view and glue n bubble solution to k bubble solution and obtain new type multi bubble solution.
Curvatures of Moduli Space of Curves and Applications

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the geometry of the moduli space of curves by using the curvature properties of direct image sheaves of vector bundles. We show that the moduli space $(M_g, \omega_{WP})$ of curves with genus $g>1$ has dual-Nakano negative and semi-Nakano-negative curvature, and in particular, it has non-positive Riemannain curvature operator and also non-positive complex sectional curvature. As applications, we prove that any submanifold in $M_g$ which is totally geodesic in $A_g$ with finite volume must be a ball quotient. We also show that, on a Kodaira (deformation) surface, there is no K\"ahler metric with non-positive Riemannain sectional curvature although it possesses K\"ahler metrics with strictly negative holomorphic bisectional curvature.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence of various harmonic maps from Hermitian manifolds to Kaehler, Hermitian and Riemannian manifolds respectively. By using refined Bochner formulas on Hermitian (possibly non-Kaehler) manifolds, we derive new rigidity results on Hermitian harmonic maps from compact Hermitian manifolds to Riemannian manifolds, and we also obtain the complex analyticity of pluri-harmonic maps from compact complex manifolds to compact Kaehler manifolds (and Riemannian manifolds) with non-degenerate curvatures, which are analogous to several fundamental results in [28,Siu], [14,Jost-Yau] and [26, Sampson].

By using a finite reduction argument and local Pohozaev-type identities for polyharmonic operator, we prove that if $$N \ge 4m+1$$ and $$Q(r,y'')$$ has a stable critical point $$(r_0,y_0'')$$ , then the above problem has infinitely many solutions, whose energy can be arbitrarily large.

We prove the existence of infinitely many double-tower type solutions, which are invariant under some non-trivial sub-groups of $O(3),$ and their energy can be made arbitrarily large.

Abstract:We consider the following fractional prescribed scalar curvature problem where N > 2s+2 , 1/2< s <1 , 2^*_s=2N/N-2s is the critical Sobolev exponent, Ḣ^s(ℝ^N) is the completion of C_0^∞(ℝ^N) under the semi-norm [u]_H^s(ℝ^N) :=(∫ _ℝ^N|(-Δ )^s/2u|^2dx)^1/2 , and K ( y ) is a positive radial function. We first prove the non-degeneracy result for the positive bubble solutions of the above equation via the local Pohozaev identities. Then we apply the non-degeneracy result to construct new bubble solutions by finite-dimensional reduction method. It should be mentioned that due to the non-localness of the fractional operator, we should establish the local Pohozaev identities for corresponding harmonic extension instead of u . This difference not only makes the sharp estimates for several integrals in the local Pohozaev identities, but also forces us to use the Pohozaev identities in quite a different way.
