Abstract:The potential of near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy for non-destructive determination of quality parameters including oil and protein contents in shell-intact cottonseed was investigated. Linear partial least squares (PLS) and nonlinear least-squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) methods were used to develop the calibration models to determinate the protein and oil contents. Moreover, as variable selection techniques, the Monte Carlo uninformative variable elimination (MC-UVE) and the successive projections algorithm (SPA) were applied to improve the predictive ability of the model. Finally, the MC-UVE-LS-SVM models show the best prediction performance. The coefficient of determination (R-2), residual predictive deviation (RPD) and root mean squares error of prediction (RMSEP) were 0.959, 4.871 and 0.977 for protein, and 0.950, 4.429 and 0.834 for oil, respectively. The results indicate that NIR technology could be very useful for the rapid quality analysis of shell-intact cottonseed avoiding the need of grinding. Furthermore, the variable selection of MC-UVE can provide more robust and accurate calibration models than SPA. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Cotton seed purity is a critical factor influencing the cotton yield. In this study, near-infrared hyperspectral imaging was used to identify seven varieties of cotton seeds. Score images formed by pixel-wise principal component analysis (PCA) showed that there were differences among different varieties of cotton seeds. Effective wavelengths were selected according to PCA loadings. A self-design convolution neural network (CNN) and a Residual Network (ResNet) were used to establish classification models. Partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), logistic regression (LR) and support vector machine (SVM) were used as direct classifiers based on full spectra and effective wavelengths for comparison. Furthermore, PLS-DA, LR and SVM models were used for cotton seeds classification based on deep features extracted by self-design CNN and ResNet models. LR and PLS-DA models using deep features as input performed slightly better than those using full spectra and effective wavelengths directly. Self-design CNN based models performed slightly better than ResNet based models. Classification models using full spectra performed better than those using effective wavelengths, with classification accuracy of calibration, validation and prediction sets all over 80% for most models. The overall results illustrated that near-infrared hyperspectral imaging with deep learning was feasible to identify cotton seed varieties.

Feasibility Study on the Use of Near-Infrared Spectroscopy for Rapid and Nondestructive Determination of Gossypol Content in Intact Cottonseeds

Abstract:Background Gossypol found in cottonseeds is toxic to human beings and monogastric animals and is a primary parameter for the integrated utilization of cottonseed products. It is usually determined by the techniques relied on complex pretreatment procedures and the samples after determination cannot be used in the breeding program, so it is of great importance to predict the gossypol content in cottonseeds rapidly and nondestructively to substitute the traditional analytical method. Results Gossypol content in cottonseeds was investigated by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Partial least squares regression, combined with spectral pretreatment methods including Savitzky-Golay smoothing, standard normal variate, multiplicative scatter correction, and first derivate were tested for optimizing the calibration models. NIRS technique was efficient in predicting gossypol content in intact cottonseeds, as revealed by the root-mean-square error of cross-validation (RMSECV), root-mean-square error of prediction (RMSEP), coefficient for determination of prediction ( R p 2 ), and residual predictive deviation (RPD) values for all models, being 0.05∼0.07, 0.04∼0.06, 0.82∼0.92, and 2.3∼3.4, respectively. The optimized model pretreated by Savitzky-Golay smoothing + standard normal variate + first derivate resulted in a good determination of gossypol content in intact cottonseeds. Conclusions Near-infrared spectroscopy coupled with different spectral pretreatments and partial least squares (PLS) regression has exhibited the feasibility in predicting gossypol content in intact cottonseeds, rapidly and nondestructively. It could be used as an alternative method to substitute for traditional one to determine the gossypol content in intact cottonseeds.
Cotton-Net: efficient and accurate rapid detection of impurity content in machine-picked seed cotton using near-infrared spectroscopy

Abstract:Widespread adoption of machine-picked cotton in China, the impurity content of seed cotton has increased significantly. This impurity content holds direct implications for the valuation of seed cotton and exerts a consequential influence on the ensuing quality of processed lint and textiles. Presently, the primary approach for assessing impurity content in seed cotton primarily depends on semi-automated testing instruments, exhibiting suboptimal detection efficiency and not well-suited for the impurity detection requirements during the purchase of seed cotton. To address this challenge, this study introduces a seed cotton near-infrared spectral (NIRS) data acquisition system, facilitating the rapid collection of seed cotton spectral data. Three pretreatment algorithms, namely SG (Savitzky-Golay convolutional smoothing), SNV (Standard Normal Variate Transformation), and Normalization, were applied to preprocess the seed cotton spectral data. Cotton-Net, a one-dimensional convolutional neural network aligned with the distinctive characteristics of the seed cotton spectral data, was developed in order to improve the prediction accuracy of seed cotton impurity content. Ablation experiments were performed, utilizing SELU, ReLU, and Sigmoid functions as activation functions. The experimental outcomes revealed that after normalization, employing SELU as the activation function led to the optimal performance of Cotton-Net, displaying a correlation coefficient of 0.9063 and an RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) of 0.0546. In the context of machine learning modeling, the LSSVM model, developed after Normalization and Random Frog algorithm processing, demonstrated superior performance, achieving a correlation coefficient of 0.8662 and an RMSE of 0.0622. In comparison, the correlation coefficient of Cotton-Net increased by 4.01%. This approach holds significant potential to underpin the subsequent development of rapid detection instruments targeting seed cotton impurities.

Calibrationless Parallel Imaging in Multi Echo / Contrast Data

Abstract:Synopsis Parallel imaging relies on fully-sampled calibration data to estimate k-space kernels or sensitivities used to reconstruct subsampled acquisitions. Emerging techniques use low-rank modeling, or joint estimation of sensitivities and image content via nonlinear optimization, to reduce the dependency on calibration data. In a typical study, images at multiple echoes/contrasts are acquired using the same coil sensitivities. Here, we exploit this joint information to dramatically improve conditioning of calibrationless nonlinear inversion and employ joint sparsity to improve reconstruction. To achieve better performance, we also propose complementary k-space undersampling between images to form a composite image with reduced aliasing to initialize the optimization.
Visual Identification of Slight-Damaged Cotton Seeds Based on Near Infrared Hyperspectral Imaging

Abstract:High quality cotton seeds are the basis of precision seeding technique.In this paper ,near-infrared hyperspectral ima-ging technology is used to realize the visible identification of micro-damaged cotton seeds ,which lays a theoretical foundation for the development of cotton seeds selection equipment.Near-infrared hyperspectral images of two kinds of 540 cotton seeds ,un-damaged and micro-damaged ,were acquired ,of which 405 samples were used as the calibration set ,and 135 samples were used as prediction set.After analyzing the original spectral curve of the full wave band ,the noise at both ends was removed.Firstly , KS algorithm was used to divide samples ,and the spectra was pretreated by smoothing algorithm( Savitsky-Golay) ,respectively using the second derivative spectra (2nd spectra) method ,principal component analysis loading (PCA-loading) method and suc-cessive projection algorithm (SPA ) method to extract the feature wavelength ,then partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) model ,K nearest neighbor (KNN) model and support vector machine (SVM ) model ware used to analyze the charac-teristic spectrum.By comparing the analysis results ,SPA-PLS-DA was selected as the model ,the discrimination rate of the cali-bration set and the prediction set is up to 91.50％ and 90.33％ ,respectively.Finally ,the SPA-PLS-DA model is used to identi-fy the mixed images of undamaged and micro-damaged cotton seeds.The identification results were identified by different colors , the corresponding visual identification figure is generated ,and good recognition results were obtained.Moreover ,the recognition rate of micro-damaged cotton seeds was above 90％.The result indicates that the near-infrared hyperspectral technology and im-age processing technology can be used to realize the visual identification of the micro-damaged cottonseeds.

Abstract:Accurately grasping the distribution and area of cotton for agricultural irrigation scheduling, intensive and efficient management of water resources, and yield estimation in arid and semiarid regions is of great significance. In this paper, taking the Xinjiang Shihezi oasis agriculture region as the study area, extracting the spectroscopic characterization (R, G, B, panchromatic), texture feature (entropy, mean, variance, contrast, homogeneity, angular second moment, correlation, and dissimilarity) and characteristics of vegetation index (normalized difference vegetation index/NDVI, ratio vegetation index/DVI, difference vegetation index/RVI) in the cotton flowering period before and after based on GF-6 image data, four models such as the random forests (RF) and deep learning approach (U-Net, DeepLabV3+ network, Deeplabv3+ model based on attention mechanism) were used to identify cotton and to compare their accuracies. The results show that the deep learning model is better than that of the random forest model. In all the deep learning models with three kinds of feature sets, the recognition accuracy and credibility of the DeepLabV3+ model based on the attention mechanism are the highest, the overall recognition accuracy of cotton is 98.23%, and the kappa coefficient is 96.11. Using the same Deeplabv3+ model based on an attention mechanism with different input feature sets (all features and only spectroscopic characterization), the identification accuracy of the former is much higher than that of the latter. GF-6 satellite image data in the field of crop type recognition has great application potential and prospects.

Abstract:In China, enterprises specializing in cottonseed processing predominantly acquire fuzzy cottonseeds. However, the expeditious determination of oil content within these fuzzy cottonseeds remains a major challenge. This particular challenge considerably influences the economic efficiency of enterprises engaged in cottonseed processing. To address this concern, this research acquired near-infrared spectral (NIRS) information from fuzzy cottonseeds and applied the Standard Normal Variate (SNV) pretreatment to eliminate data noise. Subsequently, the Uninformative Variable Elimination (UVE) was employed to select feature wavelength points reflecting fuzzy cottonseed oil content. To further accurately extract the feature wavelengths of fuzzy cottonseeds, Competitive Adaptive Reweighted Sampling (CARS) and Random Frog (RF) were utilized for a second round of feature wavelength extraction. Finally, prediction models for fuzzy cottonseed oil content were established using partial least squares regression (PLSR), Support Vector Regression (SVR), and Least Squares Support Vector Machines (LSSVM). Results revealed that the LSSVM model constructed using the feature selected by the UVE-CARS had the best performance in predicting the oil content of fuzzy cottonseeds. The values of Coefficient of Determination (R 2 ), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Residual Error Ratio (RER), and Residual Predictive Deviation (RPD) were 0.8605, 0.0075, 12.8116, and 3.8154, respectively. The LSSVM model built on the feature wavelength points selected by the UVE-RF demonstrated the second-best prediction performance with an R2 of 0.8329, an RMSE of 0.0091, an RER of 10.4861, and an RPD of 3.1228. The validation experiments corroborated these findings, it was found that the R2 was 0.8122, the RMSE was 0.0063, The RER was 7.6190, and the RPD was 2.9036. This underscores the effectiveness of the method employed in this study for detecting the oil content in fuzzy cottonseeds. The approach presented in this study serves as a crucial reference for the swift and accurate assessment of oil content in fuzzy cottonseeds, providing an impactful technical solution for cottonseed processing enterprises to enhance their economic outcomes.

<i>Discrimination of cotton plants damaged by cotton bollworm of different instars based on electronic nose use</i>

Abstract:The cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera, is one of the three main cotton pests and causes serious damage to the yield and quality of cotton fiber in the world. In this study, an electronic nose (E-nose) was employed to detect cotton plants damaged by cotton bollworm of different instars. Stable value, mean differential value, wavelet energy and the coefficients of the fitted quadratic polynomial function were extracted as four kinds of feature parameters from the electronic nose curves. Principal component analysis (PCA), Multi-layerperceptron (MLP) neural network, Radial basis function (RBF) neural network and Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) were used to analyze the data. The results indicated that the PCA analysis of four feature parameters couldn‘t discriminate the cotton plants damaged by cotton bollworm of different instars perfectly. The classification accuracies of MLPNN, RBFNN and ELM based on four feature parameters were quite satisfying which were both more than 90%. ELM had the best classification performance that the accuracies of training set and test set based on four feature parameters were all 100%. The wavelet energy value had a good classification performance based on the three neural networks. It indicates that the wavelet energy value is potential in the feature extraction of E-nose data. It could be concluded that E-nose is a potential technique for detecting cotton plants damage by cotton bollworm of different instars. Cotton, Cotton bollworm, E-nose, Feature extraction.
Extraction of Cotton Information with Optimized Phenology-Based Features from Sentinel-2 Images

Abstract:The spatial distribution of cotton fields is primary information for national farm management, the agricultural economy and the textile industry. Therefore, accurate cotton information at the regional scale is required with a rapid increase due to the chance provided by the huge amounts of satellite images accumulated in recent decades. Research has started to introduce the phenology characteristics shown at special growth phases of cotton but frequently focuses on limited vegetation indices with less consideration on the whole growth period. In this paper, we investigated a set of phenological and time-series features with optimization depending on each feature permutation's importance and redundancy, followed by its performance evaluation through the cotton extraction using the Random Forest (RF) classifier. Three sets of 31 features are involved: (1) phenological features were determined by the biophysical and biochemical characteristics in the spectral space of cotton during each of its five distinctive phenological stages, which were identified from 2307 representative cotton samples using 21,237 Sentinel-2 images; (2) three typical vegetation indices were functionalized into time-series features by harmonic analysis; (3) three terrain factors were derived from the digital elevation model. Our analysis of feature determination revealed that the most valuable discriminators for cotton involve the boll opening stage and harmonic coefficients. Moreover, both qualitative and quantitative validation were performed to evaluate the retrieval of the optimized features-based cotton information. Visual examination of the map exhibited high spatial consistency and accurate delineation of the cotton field. Quantitative comparison indicates that classification of RF-coupled optimized features achieves improved overall accuracy 5.53% higher than that which works with either the limited vegetation indices. Compared with all 31 features, the optimized features realized greater identification accuracy while using only about half the number of features. Compared with test samples, the cotton map achieved an overall accuracy greater than 98% and a kappa more than 0.96. Further comparison of the cotton map area at the county-level showed a high level of consistency with the National Bureau of Statistics data from 2020, with R2 over 0.96, RMSE no more than 14.62 Kha and RRMSE less than 17.78%.

Abstract:Near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy was applied for the rapid and nondestructive determination of fatty acid contents in shell. intact crop seed. Total 385 samples of cottonseed were used in this experiment. Linear partial least squares (PLS) and nonlinear least-squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) methods with the variables selected by Monte Cario uninformative variables elimination (MC-UVE) method were used to develop the calibration models to predict the content of fatty acid contents. A best prediction performance was obtained by using the MC-UVE-LS-SVM models. The correlation coefficients (R-2) of calibration models for palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, saturate fatty acids, unsaturated fatty acids were 0. 863, 0. 881, 0. 843, 0. 806, 0. 894 and 0. 917, respectively; the residual predictive deviations (RPD) were 2. 669, 2. 880, 2. 508, 2. 202, 3. 023 and 3. 473, respectively. The results indicated that NIR technology could be usedl for the rapid quality analysis of shell-intact cottonseed avoiding the need of grinding. Furthermore, the variable selection of MC-UVE could provide more robust and accurate calibration models.
Crop Type Identification Using High-Resolution Remote Sensing Images Based on an Improved DeepLabV3+ Network

Abstract:Remote sensing technology has become a popular tool for crop classification, but it faces challenges in accurately identifying crops in areas with fragmented land plots and complex planting structures. To address this issue, we propose an improved method for crop identification in high-resolution remote sensing images, achieved by modifying the DeepLab V3+ semantic segmentation network. In this paper, the typical crop area in the Jianghuai watershed is taken as the experimental area, and Gaofen-2 satellite images with high spatial resolutions are used as the data source. Based on the original DeepLab V3+ model, CI and OSAVI vegetation indices are added to the input layers, and MobileNet V2 is used as the backbone network. Meanwhile, the upper sampling layer of the network is added, and the attention mechanism is added to the ASPP and the upper sampling layers. The accuracy verification of the identification results shows that the MIoU and PA of this model in the test set reach 85.63% and 95.30%, the IoU and F1_Score of wheat are 93.76% and 96.78%, and the IoU and F1_Score of rape are 74.24% and 85.51%, respectively. The identification accuracy of this model is significantly better than that of the original DeepLab V3+ model and other related models. The proposed method in this paper can accurately extract the distribution information of wheat and rape from high-resolution remote sensing images. This provides a new technical approach for the application of high-resolution remote sensing images in identifying wheat and rape.

Abstract:Accurate cotton maps are crucial for monitoring cotton growth and precision management. The paper proposed a county-scale cotton mapping method by using random forest (RF) feature selection algorithm and classifier based on selecting multi-features, including spectral, vegetation indices, and texture features. The contribution of texture features to cotton classification accuracy was also explored in addition to spectral features and vegetation index. In addition, the optimal classification time, feature importance, and the best classifier on the cotton extraction accuracy were evaluated. The results showed that the texture feature named the gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) is effective for improving classification accuracy, ranking second in contribution among all studied spectral, VI, and texture features. Among the three classifiers, the RF showed higher accuracy and better stability than support vector machines (SVM) and artificial neural networks (ANN). The average overall accuracy (OA) of the classification combining multiple features was 93.36%, 7.33% higher than the average OA of the single-time spectrum, and 2.05% higher than the average OA of the multi-time spectrum. The classification accuracy after feature selection by RF can still reach 92.12%, showing high accuracy and efficiency. Combining multiple features and random forest methods may be a promising county-scale cotton classification method.

Intelligent identification of film on cotton based on hyperspectral imaging and convolutional neural network

Abstract:The identification of the film on cotton is of great significance for the improvement of cotton quality. Most of the existing technologies are dedicated to removing colored foreign fibers from cotton using photoelectric sorting methods. However, the current technologies are difficult to identify colorless transparent film, which becomes an obstacle for the harvest of high-quality cotton. In this paper, an intelligent identification method is proposed to identify the colorless and transparent film on cotton, based on short-wave near-infrared hyperspectral imaging and convolutional neural network (CNN). The algorithm includes black-and-white correction of hyperspectral images, hyperspectral data dimensionality reduction, CNN model training and testing. The key technology is that the features of the hyperspectral image data are degraded by the principal component analysis (PCA) to reduce the amount of computing time. The main innovation is that the colorless and transparent film on cotton can be accurately identified through a CNN with the performance of automatic feature extraction. The experimental results show that the proposed method can greatly improve the identification precision, compared with the traditional methods. After the simulation experiment, the method proposed in this paper has a recognition rate of 98.5% for film. After field testing, the selection rate of film is as high as 96.5%, which meets the actual production needs.

Abstract:Introduction: The study addresses challenges in detecting cotton leaf pests and diseases under natural conditions. Traditional methods face difficulties in this context, highlighting the need for improved identification techniques. Methods: The proposed method involves a new model named CFNet-VoV-GCSP-LSKNet-YOLOv8s. This model is an enhancement of YOLOv8s and includes several key modifications: (1) CFNet Module. Replaces all C2F modules in the backbone network to improve multi-scale object feature fusion. (2) VoV-GCSP Module. Replaces C2F modules in the YOLOv8s head, balancing model accuracy with reduced computational load. (3) LSKNet Attention Mechanism. Integrated into the small object layers of both the backbone and head to enhance detection of small objects. (4) XIoU Loss Function. Introduced to improve the model's convergence performance. Results: The proposed method achieves high performance metrics: Precision (P), 89.9%. Recall Rate (R), 90.7%. Mean Average Precision (mAP@0.5), 93.7%. The model has a memory footprint of 23.3MB and a detection time of 8.01ms. When compared with other models like YOLO v5s, YOLOX, YOLO v7, Faster R-CNN, YOLOv8n, YOLOv7-tiny, CenterNet, EfficientDet, and YOLOv8s, it shows an average accuracy improvement ranging from 1.2% to 21.8%. Discussion: The study demonstrates that the CFNet-VoV-GCSP-LSKNet-YOLOv8s model can effectively identify cotton pests and diseases in complex environments. This method provides a valuable technical resource for the identification and control of cotton pests and diseases, indicating significant improvements over existing methods.

Abstract:Cotton plays a significant role in people's lives, and cottonseeds serve as a vital assurance for successful cotton cultivation and production. Premium-quality cottonseeds can significantly enhance the germination rate of cottonseeds, resulting in increased cotton yields. The vitality of cottonseeds is a crucial metric that reflects the quality of the seeds. However, currently, the industry lacks a non-destructive method to directly assess cottonseed vitality without compromising the integrity of the seeds. To address this challenge, this study employed a hyperspectral imaging acquisition system to gather hyperspectral data on cottonseeds. This system enables the simultaneous collection of hyperspectral data from 25 cottonseeds. This study extracted spectral and image information from the hyperspectral data of cottonseeds to predict their vitality. SG, SNV, and MSC methods were utilized to preprocess the spectral data of cottonseeds. Following this preprocessing step, feature wavelength points of the cottonseeds were extracted using SPA and CARS algorithms. Subsequently, GLCM was employed to extract texture features from images corresponding to these feature wavelength points, including attributes such as Contrast, Correlation, Energy, and Entropy. Finally, the vitality of cottonseeds was predicted using PLSR, SVR, and a self-built 1D-CNN model. For spectral data analysis, the 1D-CNN model constructed after MSC+CARS preprocessing demonstrated the highest performance, achieving a test set correlation coefficient of 0.9214 and an RMSE of 0.7017. For image data analysis, the 1D-CNN model constructed after SG+CARS preprocessing outperformed the others, yielding a test set correlation coefficient of 0.8032 and an RMSE of 0.9683. In the case of fused spectral and image data, the 1D-CNN model built after SG+SPA preprocessing displayed the best performance, attaining a test set correlation coefficient of 0.9427 and an RMSE of 0.6872. These findings highlight the effectiveness of the 1D-CNN model and the fusion of spectral and image features for cottonseed vitality prediction. This research contributes significantly to the development of automated detection devices for assessing cottonseed vitality.
Detection and Discrimination of Cotton Foreign Matter Using Push-Broom Based Hyperspectral Imaging: System Design and Capability

Abstract:Cotton quality, a major factor determining both cotton profitability and marketability, is affected by not only the overall quantity of but also the type of the foreign matter. Although current commercial instruments can measure the overall amount of the foreign matter, no instrument can differentiate various types of foreign matter. The goal of this study was to develop a hyperspectral imaging system to discriminate major types of foreign matter in cotton lint. A push-broom based hyperspectral imaging system with a custom-built multi-thread software was developed to acquire hyperspectral images of cotton fiber with 15 types of foreign matter commonly found in the U.S. cotton lint. A total of 450 (30 replicates for each foreign matter) foreign matter samples were cut into 1 by 1 cm2 pieces and imaged on the lint surface using reflectance mode in the spectral range from 400-1000 nm. The mean spectra of the foreign matter and lint were extracted from the user-defined region-of-interests in the hyperspectral images. The principal component analysis was performed on the mean spectra to reduce the feature dimension from the original 256 bands to the top 3 principal components. The score plots of the 3 principal components were used to examine clusterization patterns for classifying the foreign matter. These patterns were further validated by statistical tests. The experimental results showed that the mean spectra of all 15 types of cotton foreign matter were different from that of the lint. Nine types of cotton foreign matter formed distinct clusters in the score plots. Additionally, all of them were significantly different from each other at the significance level of 0.05 except brown leaf and bract. The developed hyperspectral imaging system is effective to detect and classify cotton foreign matter on the lint surface and has the potential to be implemented in commercial cotton classing offices.

Cotton Seedling Detection and Counting Based on UAV Multispectral Images and Deep Learning Methods

Abstract:Cotton is one of the most important cash crops in Xinjiang, and timely seedling inspection and replenishment at the seedling stage are essential for cotton's late production management and yield formation. The background conditions of the cotton seedling stage are complex and variable, and deep learning methods are widely used to extract target objects from the complex background. Therefore, this study takes seedling cotton as the research object and uses three deep learning algorithms, YOLOv5, YOLOv7, and CenterNet, for cotton seedling detection and counting using images at six different times of the cotton seedling period based on multispectral images collected by UAVs to develop a model applicable to the whole cotton seedling period. The results showed that when tested with data collected at different times, YOLOv7 performed better overall in detection and counting, and the T4 dataset performed better in each test set. Precision, Recall, and F1-Score values with the best test results were 96.9%, 96.6%, and 96.7%, respectively, and the R2, RMSE, and RRMSE indexes were 0.94, 3.83, and 2.72%, respectively. In conclusion, the UAV multispectral images acquired about 23 days after cotton sowing (T4) with the YOLOv7 algorithm achieved rapid and accurate seedling detection and counting throughout the cotton seedling stage.

Abstract:In contrast to all other known tRNAs, mammalian tRNA1Val contains two adenosines A59 and A60, opposite to U54 and psi 55 in the U psi CG sequence of the T psi C loop, which could form unusual A:U (or A: psi pairs in addition to the five "normal" G:C pairs. In order to measure the number of G:C and A:U (A: psi) pairs in the T psi C stem, we prepared the 30 nucleotide long 3'-terminal fragment of this tRNA by "m7G-cleavage". From differentiated melting curves and temperature jump experiments it was concluded that the T psi C stem in this fragment is in fact extended by an additional A60:U54 pair. A dimer of this fragment with 14 base pairs was characterized by gel electrophoresis and by the same physical methods. An additional A:U pair in the tRNA1Val fragment does not necessarily mean that this is also true for intact tRNA. However, we showed that U54 is far less available for enzymatic methylation in mammalian tRNA1Val compared to tRNA from T-E. coli. This clear difference in U54 reactivity, together with the identification of an extra A60:U54 pair in the U psi CG containing fragment suggests the presence of a 6 base pair T psi C stem and a 5 nucleotide T psi C loop in this tRNA.

Abstract:Foreign fibers in cotton layers have a particular impact on the quality of the cotton. Traditional image processing methods are ineffective in detecting foreign fibers in cotton layers, which are time-consuming and costly. In order to identify foreign fibers effectively, a classification and identification method for foreign fibers in cotton layers was proposed based on NIR spectroscopy and CNN-TCN. In this study, near-infrared spectroscopy ranging from 780 nm to 2360 nm was used to identify the type of foreign fibers. Savitzky-Golay smoothing was used to preprocess spectroscopy data, and LightGBM-ANOVA was used to determine optimal wavelengths. Preprocessed spectral data extracted spectral features through the 1D convolutional neural network(1D-CNN). Then Temporal convolutional neural network (TCN), Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM), Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), and 1D-CNN were used to establish classification models. Compared with other time series models, CNN-TCN methods obtained better performances with the classification accuracy of over 99% in the test set and the shorter training time. The overall results illustrated that near-infrared spectral combined with the CNN-TCN method was efficient and accurate for identifying foreign fibers in the cotton layer.
