Abstract:Rp1 is a complex disease resistance locus in maize that is exceptional in both allelic variability and meiotic instability. Genomic sequence analysis of three maize BACs from the Rp1 region of the B73 inbred line revealed 4 Rp1 homologs and 18 other gene-homologous sequences, of which at least 16 are truncated. Thirteen of the truncated genes are found in three clusters, suggesting that they arose from multiple illegitimate break repairs at the same sites or from complex repairs of each of these sites with multiple unlinked DNA templates. A 43-kb region that contains an Rp1 homolog, six truncated genes, and three Opie retrotransposons was found to be duplicated in this region. This duplication is relatively recent, occurring after the insertion of the three Opie elements. The breakpoints of the duplication are outside of any genes or identified repeat sequence, suggesting a duplication mechanism that did not involve unequal recombination. A physical map and partial sequencing of the Rp1 complex indicate the presence of 15 Rp1 homologs in regions of ∼250 and 300 kb in the B73 inbred line. Comparison of fully sequenced Rp1-homologous sequences in the region demonstrates a history of unequal recombination and diversifying selection within the Leu-rich repeat 2 region, resulting in chimeric gene structures.
Saccharospirillum salsuginis sp. nov., a gammaproteobacterium from a subterranean brine

Abstract:A novel Gram-negative, non-sporulating, moderately halophilic, facultatively alkaliphilic, catalase- and oxidase-positive, obligately aerobic bacterium, strain YIM-Y25(T), was isolated from a subterranean brine sample collected from a salt mine in Yunnan, south-west China. Cells were spirilla, motile by monopolar flagella, with meso-diaminopimelic acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan. Growth occurred with 1-15 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 5 %), at pH 6.0-10.0 (optimum pH 8.0) and at 15-50 degrees C (optimum 35-40 degrees C). Ubiquinone Q-8 was the predominant respiratory quinone. Polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylmonomethylamine and an unidentified phospholipid. The major cellular fatty acids were C(18 : 1)omega7c, iso-C(16 : 0), C(16 : 0) and C(16 : 1). The genomic DNA G+C content was 58.5 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain YIM-Y25(T) was most closely related to the type strain of the sole recognized species of the genus Saccharospirillum, Saccharospirillum impatiens EL-105(T) (sequence similarity 97.0 %), and these two strains formed a robust lineage in the phylogenetic tree. The level of DNA-DNA relatedness between them was 12.6 %. The combination of phylogenetic analysis, phenotypic differences, chemotaxonomic properties and DNA-DNA hybridization data supported the view that this strain represents a novel species of the genus Saccharospirillum, for which the name Saccharospirillum salsuginis sp. nov. is proposed, with YIM-Y25(T) (=CCTCC AA 207033(T) =KCTC 22169(T)) as the type strain.
Halomonas Salifodinae Sp. Nov., a Halophilic Bacterium Isolated from a Salt Mine in China.

Abstract:A Gram-negative, aerobic, motile, halophilic bacterium, designated strain BC7(T), was isolated from a salt mine in north-western China and was subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic characterization. The isolate was able to grow in the presence of 0.5-20 % (w/v) NaCl and at pH 6.0-9.0 and 4-48 degrees C; optimum growth was observed with 3 % (w/v) NaCl and at pH 7.0 and 30 degrees C. Cells were long rods, 0.8-1.2 microm wide and 4.0-6.0 microm long. The major fatty acids were C(18 : 1)omega7c, C(16 : 0) and C(16 : 0)omega7c. The DNA G+C content was 65.5 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain BC7(T) belonged to the genus Halomonas and showed highest sequence similarity to the type strain of Halomonas pacifica (99.2 %). Levels of DNA-DNA relatedness between strain BC7(T) and H. pacifica CGMCC 1.2314(T) and Halomonas taeanensis DSM 16463(T) were 51 and 38 %, respectively. On the basis of phenotypic and genotypic data, strain BC7(T) is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Halomonas, for which the name Halomonas salifodinae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is BC7(T) (=CGMCC 1.6774(T) =JCM 14803(T)).
Zhihengliuella salsuginis sp. nov., a moderately halophilic actinobacterium from a subterranean brine

Abstract:A novel moderately halophilic, alkaliphilic, non-motile, non-sporulating, catalase-positive, oxidase-negative, aerobic, coccus-shaped, Gram-positive bacterium, designated strain JSM 071043(T), was isolated from a subterranean brine sample collected from a salt mine in Hunan Province, China. Growth occurred with 0.5-20% (w/v) NaCl (optimum 5-10%) at pH 6.5-10.5 (optimum pH 8.5) and at 10-40 degrees C (optimum 25-30 degrees C). Good growth also occurred in the presence of 0.5-20% (w/v) KCl (optimum 5-8%) or 0.5-25% (w/v) MgCl(2).6H(2)O (optimum 5-10%). The peptidoglycan type was A4alpha (L: -Lys-L: -Ala-L: -Glu) and major cell-wall sugars were tyvelose and mannose. The major cellular fatty acids were anteiso-C(15:0), iso-C(16:0) and anteiso-C(17:0). Strain JSM 071043(T) contained MK-9 and MK-8 as the predominant menaquinones and diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylinositol as the major polar lipids. The DNA G + C content was 67.8 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain JSM 071043(T) was a member of the suborder Micrococcineae, and was most closely related to Zhihengliuella halotolerans YIM 70185(T) (sequence similarity 98.9%) and Zhihengliuella alba YIM 90734(T) (98.2%), and the three strains formed a distinct branch in the phylogenetic tree. The combination of phylogenetic analysis, DNA-DNA relatedness values, phenotypic characteristics and chemotaxonomic data supports the proposal that strain JSM 071043(T) represents a novel species of the genus Zhihengliuella, for which the name Z. salsuginis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is JSM 071043(T) (= DSM 21149(T) = KCTC 19466(T)).
Salinarimonas rosea gen. nov., sp. nov., a new member of the alpha-2 subgroup of the Proteobacteria

Abstract:A Gram-negative, rod-shaped, facultatively anaerobic, halotolerant bacterial strain, designated YIM YD3(T), was isolated from a salt mine in Yunnan, south-west China. The taxonomy of strain YIM YD3(T) was investigated by a polyphasic approach. Strain YIM YD3(T) was motile, formed pink colonies and was positive for catalase and oxidase activities. Q-10 was the predominant respiratory ubiquinone. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylmethylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine and two unknown phospholipids. The major fatty acids (>10 % of total fatty acids) were C(18 : 1)omega7c, C(18 : 1)omega9c, C(16 : 0) and C(19 : 0) cyclo omega8c. The DNA G+C content was 71.8 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequence comparisons showed that the isolate formed a distinct line within a clade containing the genera Balneimonas, Bosea, Chelatococcus and Microvirga in the order Rhizobiales, with highest levels of 16S RNA gene sequence similarity to the type strain of Balneimonas flocculans (93.5 %). On the basis of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic data, strain YIM YD3(T) represents a novel species in a new genus, for which the name Salinarimonas rosea gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed, with strain YIM YD3(T) (=KCTC 22346(T)=CCTCC AA208038(T)) as the type strain.

Abstract:A Gram-staining-negative, non-motile, non-spore-forming bacterium designated Y3L14T was isolated from the saline-alkaline soil of a farmland, Inner Mongolia, northern China. Strain Y3L14T could grow at 10-40 °C (optimally at 30 °C), pH 6.0-10.0 (optimally at pH 8.0), and in the presence of 0-6.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimally with 0-2.0 %). Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene and DNA gyrase subunit B (gyrB) gene sequences revealed that strain Y3L14T clustered with strains belonging to the genus Sphingobacterium, sharing the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with Sphingobacterium lactis WCC 4512T (94.99 %). Its major cellular fatty acids contained iso-C15 : 0, C16 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and summed feature 3 (iso-C15 : 0 2-OH and/or C16 : 1ω7c). Menaquinone-7 (MK-7) was the only isoprenoid quinone. Strain Y3L14T contained phosphatidylethanolamine, sphingophospholipid, two unknown phospholipids and three unknown lipids as the major polar lipids. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain Y3L14T was 36.0 mol%. Based on the phenotypic, phylogenetic and genotypic characteristics, strain Y3L14T represents a novel species within the genus Sphingobacterium, for which Sphingobacterium alkalisoli sp. nov. is proposed; the type strain is Y3L14T (=CGMCC 1.15782T=KCTC 52379T).

Abstract:A Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, moderate halophilic actinobacterium, designated strain YIM 96095 T , was isolated from a saline soil sample collected from Aiding Lake, Xinjiang, North-western China. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the isolate belonged to the family Nocardiopsidaceae , formed a distinct subclade, and was most closely related to Lipingzhangella halophila DSM 102030 T and Allosalinactinospora lopnorensis DSM 45697 T with sequence identity values of 95.8 and 95.1%, respectively. Optimal growth occurred at 37 °C, pH 7.0–8.0 and with 5–16% (w/v) NaCl, with well-developed, non-fragmented substrate mycelia and single-, double-, or triple-wrinkled spore(s) on the mature aerial hyphae. The chemical analysis presented meso -diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid of the cell-wall peptidoglycan, and glucose, galactose and rhamnose as the major whole-cell sugars, and iso-C 15 : 0 and anteiso-C 15 : 0 as the major fatty acids. The phospholipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, unidentified phospholipids and unidentified glycolipid. The menaquinones were MK-10(H 8 ), MK-10(H 6 ) and MK-9(H 10 ). Its G+C content was 69.7 mol% in the determined genome sequence. Based on phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic characteristics, a novel genus and species named Halostreptopolyspora alba gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed for isolate YIM 96095 T (=KCTC 49266 T =CGMCC 4.7636 T ).

Abstract:Modification of His‐47 and removal of the N‐terminal octapeptide caused a different effect on the structure of Naja naja atra (Taiwan cobra) phospholipase A2 (PLA2). Unlike native enzyme, Ca2+ induced an alteration in the structural flexibility of His‐modified PLA2. Moreover, the spatial positions of Trp residues in His‐modified PLA2 were not properly rearranged toward lipid–water interface in the presence of Ca2+. CD spectra and fluorescence measurement showed that the dynamic properties of Trp residues and the gross conformation of N‐terminally truncated PLA2 were totally different from native enzyme. Although a precipitous drop in the enzymatic activity was observed with modified PLA2, His‐modified PLA2 and N‐terminally truncated PLA2 retained cytotoxicity on inducing necrotic death of human neuroblastoma SK‐N‐SH cells. Our data suggest that structural perturbations elicited by the chemical modification cause a dissociation of enzymatic activity and cytotoxicity of PLA2. Roseivivax sediminis sp. nov., a moderately halophilic bacterium isolated from salt mine sediment

Abstract:A Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, short rod-shaped, heterotrophic bacterium, designated strain YIM D21(T), was isolated from a salt mine in Yunnan province, south-west China. Strain YIM D21(T) formed cream-yellow colonies, was non-motile and moderately halophilic, and tolerated NaCl concentrations of 1-15% (w/v), with optimum growth at 5-10 % (w/v). Growth occurred at 15-42 °C (optimum 28 °C) and at pH 6.5-8.5 (optimum 7.5-8.0). The respiratory quinone was ubiquinone-10 (Q-10). The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, three unidentified phospholipids, one unidentified aminolipid and two unidentified lipids. The major fatty acids were C(18:1)ω7c and cyclo C(19:0)ω8c and the DNA G+C content was 67.7 mol%. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that strain YIM D21(T) belongs to the genus Roseivivax. 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities of YIM D21(T) were 95.7, 95.0 and 94.8% with the type strains of Roseivivax halodurans, Roseivivax lentus and Roseivivax halotolerans, respectively. Physiological and biochemical tests allowed phenotypic differentiation of strain YIM D21(T) from closely related species with validly published names. We therefore propose that this isolate represents a novel species, Roseivivax sediminis sp. nov.; the type strain is YIM D21(T) ( = KCTC 23444(T) = ACCC 10710(T)).
Salinicoccus kekensis sp. nov., a novel alkaliphile and moderate halophile isolated from Keke Salt Lake in Qinghai, China

Abstract:A novel alkaliphilic and moderate halophilic bacterium, designated strain K164(T), was isolated from Keke Salt Lake in Qinghai, China. The strain grew with 2.0-20.0% (w/v) NaCl, at 4-50 degrees C and pH 6.5-11.5, with an optimum of 8% (w/v) NaCl, 37degrees C and pH 10, respectively. The predominant respiratory quinone was menaquinone 6 (MK-6) and the major polar lipid was phosphatidylethanolamine. The major cellular fatty acids were anteiso-C(15:0) and iso-C(15:0). The genomic DNA G+C content was 50.16 mol. Phylogenetic analysis based on the full-length 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that strain K164(T) was a member of the genus Salinicoccus. Strain K164(T) showed the highest similarity (98.4%) with Salinicoccus alkaliphilus AS 1.2691(T) and below 97% similarity with other recognized members of the genus in 16S rRNA gene sequence. Level of DNA-DNA relatedness between strain K164(T) and Salinicoccus alkaliphilus AS 1.2691(T) was 20.1%. On the basis of its phenotypic characteristics and the level of DNA-DNA hybridization, strain K164(T) is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Salinicoccus, for which the name Salinicoccus kekensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is K164(T) (=CGMCC 1.10337(T) = DSM 23173(T)).

Abstract:Two yellow-pigmented, Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacteria were isolated from the water of the hypersaline Chaka Salt Lake (strain SaA2.12(T)) and sediment of Qinghai Lake (strain LaA7.5(T)), PR China. According to the 16S rRNA phylogeny, the isolates belong to the genus Flavobacterium, showing the highest 16S rRNA sequence similarities to Flavobacterium arcticum SM1502(T)(97.6-97.7%) and Flavobacterium suzhouense XIN-1(T)(96.5-96.6 %). Moreover, strains SaA2.12(T) and LaA7.5(T) showed 99.73 % 16S rRNA sequence similarity to each other. Major fatty acids, respiratory quinones and polar lipids detected in these isolates were iso-C-15:0, menaquinone-6 and phosphatidylethanolamine, respectively. Strains SaA2.12(T) and LaA7.5(T) showed significant unique characteristics between them as well as between the closest phylogenetic members. The highest digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) and average nucleotide identity (ANI) values between SaA2.12(T) and its closest neighbours were 25.3 and 82.8 %, respectively; whereas these values (highest) between LaA7.5(T) and its closest members were 25.2 and 82.8 %, respectively. The dDDH and ANI values between strains SaA2.12(T) and LaA7.5(T) were calculated as 75.9 and 97.2 %, respectively. Therefore, based on polyphasic data, we propose that strain SaA2.12T represents a novel species with the name Flavobacterium salilacus sp. nov., with the type strain SaA2.12T (=KCTC 72220(T)=MCCC 1K03618(T)) and strain LaA7.5T as a sub-species within novel Flavobacterium salilacus with the name Flavobacterium salilacus subsp. altitudinum subsp. nov., with the type strain LaA7.5(T) (=KCTC 72806(T)=MCCC 1K04372(T)). These propositions automatically create Flavobacterium salilacus subsp. salilacus subsp. nov. with SaA2.12T (=KCTC 72220(T)=MCCC 1K03618(T)) as the type strain.
[Stomach cancer in patients under 40].

Abstract:Fifty-one patients below the age of forty were treated for stomach carcinoma at the Surgical Hospital of Mainz University, between 1970 and 1986. They accounted for 5.2 per cent of all patients with stomach carcinoma. Diagnosis had been delayed under the following characteristic circumstances: The interval between onset of symptoms and diagnosis had been more than a year in 34 per cent of all cases. Fifty per cent of the patients had been originally hospitalised, following false suspicious diagnosis. Primary examination for gastro-intestinal passage produced falsely negative results in 43 per cent. The same falsely negative outcome was recorded from 24 per cent, following gastroscopy, and from twelve per cent, following gastroscopy combined with tissue sampling. The percentage of early stomach carcinomas was twice as high as that recorded from patients over forty. Undifferentiated carcinomas, on the other hand, were predominant in patients below forty, whereas adenocarcinomas were primarily recorded from patients over forty. Curative resection was successful in 55 per cent of the over-forties and 44 per cent of the under-forties. No-recurrence intervals were longer among the over-forties. However, five-year survival rates in Stages I, II, and III were better among the under-forties. Hence, the conclusion has been drawn from these findings that stomach carcinoma prognosis of patients below forty is better than that in higher age groups. This, however, is contradictory to other investigations reported in the literature.

Abstract:Three strains of Gram-negative, aerobic, neutrophilic and halophilic bacteria were isolated from samples of a salt lake on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and a subterranean saline well in the Si-Chuan Basin of China. These isolates, designated AJ275(T), AJ282(T) and ZG16(T), were investigated using a polyphasic approach. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, the isolates could be affiliated to the genus Halomonas. Genomic DNA G+C contents were 65.9 mol% for AJ275(T), 56.7 mol% for AJ282(T) and 57.6 mol% for ZG16(T). The results of DNA-DNA hybridizations, fatty acid analysis and physiological and biochemical tests allowed the isolates to be differentiated genotypically and phenotypically from closely related species. It is proposed that strains AJ275(T) (=CGMCC 1.6493(T)=JCM 14606(T)=LMG 23976(T)), AJ282(T) (=CGMCC 1.6494(T)=JCM 14607(T)=LMG 23978(T)) and ZG16(T) (=CGMCC 1.6495(T)=JCM 14608(T)=LMG 23977(T)) represent the type strains of three novel species in the genus Halomonas: Halomonas saccharevitans sp. nov., Halomonas arcis sp. nov. and Halomonas subterranea sp. nov., respectively.

Abstract:A 61-year-old patient who was receiving haemodialysis because of chronic renal failure developed unstable angina pectoris with three vessel disease. We performed successful coronary artery bypass grafting, using aprotinin to reduce blood loss. Blood loss during the operation was 750 ml, and during a 6 hour period after the operation it was 150 ml. This amount seemed to be small. No adverse clinical effects attributable to aprotinin were seen, and urine volume and plasma creatinine were not different before and after the operation. In summary, aprotinin is useful adjunct to open heart surgery in chronic haemodialysis patients.

Abstract:A novel anaerobic, heterotrophic bacterium, designated strain Zn2(T), was isolated from the wastewater of a paper mill in Zhejiang, China. Cells were gram-type-positive rods, 0.5-0.8 µm wide and 2-4 µm long, and were motile by a lateral flagellum. The ranges of temperature and pH for growth were 10-50 °C and pH 6.0-9.5. Optimal growth occurred at 35 °C and pH 7.3-7.5. The strain did not require NaCl for growth, but its inclusion in the medium improved growth (optimum concentration 6 %). Substrates utilized as sole carbon sources were peptone, tryptone, Casamino acids, D-xylose, salicin, glycerol, formate, acetate and propionate. The main products of carbohydrate fermentation were acetate, formate, propionate and lactate. Elemental sulfur, thiosulfate and Fe(III) were used as electron acceptors, but sulfate, sulfite, nitrate, nitrite and Mn(IV) were not. Growth was inhibited by the addition of 10 µg ampicillin, penicillin, tetracycline or chloramphenicol ml(-1). iso-C15 : 0, C14 : 0, C16 : 0, C16 : 1 cis9 and C18 : 1 cis9 were the major fatty acids. Strain Zn2(T) did not contain any detectable menaquinones or ubiquinones. The main polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylserine, two unknown phospholipids and four unknown glycolipids. The genomic DNA G+C content was 37 mol%, as determined by HPLC. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strain Zn2(T) was a member of family Clostridiaceae, and was most closely related to the type strains of Geosporobacter subterraneus, Thermotalea metallivorans and Caminicella sporogenes, showing 91.2, 90.3 and 91.1 % sequence similarity, respectively. On the basis of its phenotypic and genotypic properties, strain Zn2(T) is suggested to represent a novel species of a new genus, for which the name Salimesophilobacter vulgaris gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Salimesophilobacter vulgaris is Zn2(T) ( = DSM 24770(T) = JCM 17796(T)).

Abstract:AARONS, D., et al.: Use of the Elective Replacement Indicator in Predicting Time of Automatic Implantable Cardioverter‐Defibrillator Battery Depletion The elective replacement indicator (ERI) of an automatic impiantable cardioverter‐defibrillator (AICD) is intended to be utilized as strict criteria for the appropriate timing of pulse generator replacement. The manufacturer's newest recommendations suggest replacement within 3 months post‐KRI attainment and this applies to both AID‐B units and the latest Ventak models currently being implanted with expectations for increased battery longevity. Twelve patients with the AID‐B model were prospectively evaluated in regard to (a) time from attainment of ERI to generator exchange and (b] total battery life with respect to the presence or absence of spontaneous discharges. In the overall group, the ERI was reached at 18.9 ± 3.9 months (mean + standard deviation). The time from ERI attainment to generator exchange due to battery depletion was 8.1 ±5.1 months, and total battery life was 27.3 ± 3.1 months. In the group with sponlaneous discharges, the duration of time (months) post‐ERI to generator exchange was 5.7 ± 2.6 but was 11.4 ± 6.1 in the others (P = 0.052); battery life was 25.7 ± 2.4 and 29.4 ± 2.7, respectively (P = 0.03). We conclude that the current ERI recommendation seems overly conservative in planning generator exchange for patients without the occurrence of spontaneous discharges and appropriate for patients with such discharges.
Saliphagus infecundisoli gen. nov., sp. nov., an extremely halophilic archaeon isolated from a saline soil

Abstract:Two extremely halophilic archaea, strains YIM 93745T and YIM 93707, were isolated from a saline soil sample collected from Loulan, China. Cells of the two strains were coccus, non-motile and Gram-stain negative. The strains were aerobic and grew at 25-50 °C (optimum, 37 °C), in the presence of 5-35 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 20 %), 0.01-0.1 M Mg2+ (optimum, 0.03 M) and pH 6.0-8.5 (optimum, 7.0-7.5). Cells lysed in distilled water and with 0-5 % NaCl. Major polar lipids were phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol phosphate methyl ester, phosphatidylglycerol sulfate, sulfated mannosyl glycosyl diether and two unidentified glycolipids. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA sequence revealed that the two strains were most closely related to Halovivax cerinus IC35T (95.1 and 95.2 % sequence similarities, respectively). The two strains, however, shared highest rpoB' gene sequence identities with Natrinema pellirubrum JCM 10476T (87.8 and 87.7 % respectively). Phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA and rpoB' gene sequences demonstrated a robust clade of the two strains with members of related genera of the family Natrialbaceae. The DNA G+C contents of the two strains were 64.6 and 64.4 mol%, respectively. DNA-DNA relatedness values between them were 95±2 %. Phenotypic, chemotaxonomic characteristics and phylogenetic properties suggested that the two strains YIM 93745T and YIM 93707 represent a novel species in a new genus within the family Natrialbaceae, for which the name Saliphagus infecundisoli gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YIM 93745T (=KCTC 4228T=CGMCC 1.15824T).

Abstract:A Gram-stain-positive, aerobic bacterial strain, designated Y2A20(T), with peritrichous flagella was isolated from the top layer saline-alkaline soil, Hangjin Banner, Inner Mongolia, northern China. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain Y2A20(T) formed a stable clade with 'Lysinibacillus jejuensis' N2-5(T). Strain Y2A20(T) shared highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with 'L. jejuensis' N2-5(T) (97.4 %), but lower 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities with all other type strains (< 97.0 %). The major polar lipids of strain Y2A20(T) were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidyethanolamine, two unknown aminophospholipids and three unknown phospholipids. Menaquinone-7 was the predominant menaquinone, while iso-C-15 : 0, iso-C-16 : 0 and iso-C-17 : 0 were the major cellular fatty acids. Its genomic DNA G+C content was 39.0 mol%. DNA-DNA hybridization revealed that strain Y2A20(T) showed 26 +/- 5% genomic DNA relatedness with its closest relative, 'L. jejuensis' N2-5(T). The results of physiological and biochemical tests allowed the discrimination of strain Y2A20(T) from its phylogenetic relatives. Lysinibacillus alkalisoli sp. nov. is therefore proposed with Y2A20(T) (= CGMCC 1.15760(T) = KCTC 33825(T)) as the type strain.
Paraliobacillus quinghaiensis sp. nov., isolated from salt-lake sediment in China

Abstract:A Gram-positive, moderately halophilic, endospore-forming, catalase- and oxidase-positive, obligately aerobic bacterium, designated strain YIM-C158T, was isolated from sediment of a salt lake in the Qaidam Basin, north-west China. Cells were motile with peritrichous flagella and rod-shaped, with meso-diaminopimelic acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan. Strain YIM-C158T grew in the presence of 1-20 % (w/v) NaCl and pH 6.0-10.0, with optimum growth at 5 % (w/v) NaCl and pH 8.0. The strain grew at 4-50 degrees C, with optimum growth at 37 degrees C. The major cellular fatty acids were anteiso-C(15 : 0), iso-C(14 : 0), C(16 : 0), anteiso-C(17 : 0), iso-C(16 : 0), C(16 : 1)omega7c alcohol and C(16 : 1)omega11c. Strain YIM-C158T contained menaquinone MK-7 as the sole respiratory quinone and phosphatidylmethylethanolamine and phosphatidylcholine as the polar lipids. The genomic DNA G+C content was 39.5 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain YIM-C158T was most closely related to Paraliobacillus ryukyuensis DSM 15140T (96.8 % similarity), and the two strains formed a distinct branch in the phylogenetic tree. The level of DNA-DNA relatedness between the two strains was 15.6 %. The combination of phylogenetic analysis, phenotypic characteristics, chemotaxonomic differences and DNA-DNA hybridization data supported the view that strain YIM-C158T represents a novel species of the genus Paraliobacillus, for which the name Paraliobacillus quinghaiensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YIM-C158T (=DSM 17857T=CGMCC 1.6333T).
