Abstract:Background: In recent years, it has been reported that long-term use of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) may have protective effects against neurodegenerative diseases by inhibiting the activity of cholinesterase enzymes. The exact biological mechanism of these protective effects is not yet known. This study aims to assess the in vivo and in vitro effects of aspirin and ibuprofen injection on the activity of acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase. Materials and methods: In this experimental study, 70 adult male mice (20-25 g) were divided randomly into 7 groups (n= 10) including a control group that received normal saline and other groups that received different dosages of aspirin and ibuprofen (100, 200, and 300 mg/kg) in the form of intraperitoneal injection. Mice were anesthetized by ether, and blood samples were taken from the heart. Ellman´s methods were used to measure cholinesterase, erythrocytes, and serum, respectively. Results: The activity of cholinesterase enzymes in serum and erythrocytes decreased significantly (P<0.0001) in treated groups with aspirin and ibuprofen compared to the control samples after 3 and 24 hours. However, these inhibitory effects were variable depending on the dose of the injected drugs, and they were statistically significant at higher injection doses in vitro and in vivo analysis. Conclusion: The result of this study showed that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can inhibit the activity of the cholinesterase enzymes in both in vivo and in vitro conditions compared to the control group.

Abstract:In the brain of Alzheimer's patients, the cholinergic neurons innervated the hippocampus and cerebral cortex degenerates before accumulation of beta-amyloid protein. Donepezil, a potent acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor is reported to rescue neurons from excitotoxic injury in culture. However, there is no evidence to confirm its neuroprotective effect on ACh neurons in vivo. Using olfactory bulbectomy (OBX) mice, we defined the neuroprotective mechanisms of donepezil on the medial septum cholinergic neurons with concomitant improvement of the impaired cognitive function. Bilateral olfactory bulbs of DDY mouse were removed by surgery. After olfactory bulbectomized (OBX), donepezil (1 or 3 mg/kg/day) was administered for 15 days and mouse brain was fixed with paraformaldehyde perfusion at day 18. Then, the neuroprotective effect of donepezil was evaluated by counting the number of Chdine acetyltrans-ferase (ChAT) immunoreactive neurons in the medial septum. The number of ChAT immunoreactive neurons in the medial septum reduced by 40% of that in sham-operated animals. The reduced ChAT positive neurons were restored by donepezil treatments. Consistent with these observations, the cognitive deficits observed in OBX mice were significantly improved by the donepezil treatment. Taken together, donepezil treatment rescues the cholinergic neurons in the medial septum from the neurodegeneration by OBX. We will also discuss the mechanism underlying the donepezil-induced neuroprotection in the medial septum cholinergic neurons.

Abstract:Anomalous action of human acetylcholinesterase (hAChE) in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) was restrained by various AChE inhibitors, of which the specific and potent lead candidate Donepezil is used for treating the disease AD. Besides the specificity, the observed undesirable side effects caused by Donepezil invoked the quest for new lead molecules with the increased potency and specificity for AChE. The present study elucidates the potency of six 1N-methyl-1S-methyl-2-nitroethylene (NMSM) derivatives to form a specific interaction with the peripheral anionic site and catalytic anionic subsite residues of hAChE. The NMSMs were prepared in good yield from 1,1-di(methylsulfanyl)-2-nitroethylene and primary amine (or) amino acid esters. In silico interaction analysis reveals specific and potent interactions between hAChE and selected ligand molecules. The site-specific interactions formed between these molecules also results in a conformational change in the orientation of active site residues of hAChE, which prevents them from being accessed by beta-amyloid protein (Aβ), which is a causative agent for amyloid plaque formation and acetylcholine (ACh). In silico interaction analysis between the ligand-bounded hAChE with Aß and ACh confirms this observation. The variation in the conformation of hAChE associated with the decreased ability of Aβ and ACh to access the respective functional residues of hAChE induced by the novel NMSMs favors their selection for in vivo analysis to present themselves as new members of hAChE inhibitors.
Neuroprotective Effect of Famotidine in Mouse Models of Alzheimer's Disease

Abstract:Background: Famotidine is a competitive histamine H-receptor antagonist that reduces the formation of stomach acid and is used to treat gastrointestinal disorders associated with acid reflux, gastroesophageal reflux disease, duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, and pathological hypersecretory disorders. This study is designed to investigate the possible neuroprotective effects of the ranolazine scopolamine-induced Alzheimer's disease-like feature in a mouse model. Methods: Mice were divided equally into five groups (ten mice per group), including control group and induction group. The mice in the induction group were administered scopolamine 1 mg/kg i.p., once daily for 7 days, to induce features similar to Alzheimer's disease. The mice in the remaining three treatment groups were given tested medications prophylactically for 14 days. After that the induction was carried out with scopolamine 1 mg/kg i.p., once daily, while the tested medication dosages were continued for an additional 7 days. These treatment groups included: the donepezil group (5 mg/kg/day), the famotidine group (40 mg/kg/day) and the combined group with donepezil (5 mg/kg/day) and famotidine (40 mg/kg/day); all were administrated i.p., once daily. Behavioral parameters were assessed, among others with the Y-maze test and novel object recognition test, and the inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress parameters were assessed as well. Results: Famotidine exhibits significant improvements in behavior and memory, level of oxidative stress parame-ter, and inflammatory cytokines. Conclusions: Famotidine and its combination at prescribed doses in the current study improved learning and memory impairments in mice model of Alzheimer's disease probably via their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties confirmed by a significant increase in antioxidant mediator and a significant decrease in oxidative stress marker and inflammatory cytokines.

Abstract:Abstract Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a brain disease characterized by gradual memory loss and cognitive impairments. Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors—such as donepezil, memantine, and tacrine—are FDA-approved medications for AD treatment. Due to the lack of their efficacy and higher side effects, many researchers have been searching for effective and safer alternatives. In this study, experimentally proved phytochemicals against brain diseases were screened based on their binding energies to the target site of AChE, pharmacokinetic properties, and drug-likeness. Although some phytochemicals showed higher binding affinities than the control drug (donepezil), they did not show permeability across the blood-brain barrier (BBB). However, berberine, anthocyanin, and diterpene alkaloid can cross the BBB and showed good binding affinities of −10.3, −10.1, and −10.2 kcal/mol, respectively. MD simulation and PCA of the simulation data of the protein and protein-ligand complexes proved that the complexes are stable in the biological environment. A total of 16 derivatives of berberine and 3 derivatives of anthocyanin also showed higher binding energies compared to the binding affinity (−11.5 kcal/mol) of the donepezil. The derivatives were designed by substituting –F, –CF3, –CN, and –NH2, and provided higher docking scores due to increasing of nonbonding interactions. MM/GBSA calculations show that the binding free energies of the best predicted derivatives of diterpene alkaloid, anthocyanin, and berberine (DA22, AC11, and BB40) are −100.4 ± 8.4, −79.3 ± 8.7, and −78.3 ± 10.7 kcal/mol, respectively, with the protein. Overall, this study was successful in finding new, highly effective, and possibly safer inhibitors of AChE. Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Abstract:A central event in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the accumulation of senile plaques composed of aggregated amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides. The main class of drugs currently used for the treatment of AD are the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibitors. In this study, it has been shown that Aβ augmented AChE activity in vitro, maximum activation of 548 ± 5% was achieved following 48 h of incubation with 10 μM of Aβ1–40, leading to a 7.7-fold increase in catalytic efficiency. The observed non-competitive type of AChE activation by Aβ1–40 was associated with increased Vmax and unchanged Km. Although BChE activity also increased following incubation with Aβ1–40, this was less efficiently achieved as compared with AChE. Ex vivo electrophysiological experiments showed that 10 μM of Aβ1–40 significantly decreased the effect of the AChE inhibitor huperzine A on the synaptic potential parameters.

Abstract:For the treatment of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine) and/or the non-competitive inhibitor of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors (NMDA receptors) memantine are currently used. The administration of these drugs can help temporarily improve or stabilize memory impairments and other cognitive functions, regress behavioral disorders, reduce the patient’s dependence on others, but at the same time can lead to the development of adverse drug reactions. The aim of this study was to analyze the information on the safety of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine) and the non-competitive inhibitor of NMDA receptors used to treat dementia. It was shown that stimulation of cholinergic receptors can lead to adverse drug reactions as contraction and narrowing of the pupil (miosis), an increase in lens curvature, accommodation spasm (visual impairment and an increased risk of falls), a decrease in heart rate (bradycardia) and inhibition of conduction of impulses through the conducting system heart, increased tone of the bronchi, gastrointestinal tract, gall and bladder, decreased tone of the sphincters of the digestive tract and bladder, increased secretion of exocrine and glands of the stomach, agitation, confusion. Blockade of NMDA receptors due to impairment of glutamate metabolism in the central nervous system may be the cause of neurotoxicity of NMDA receptor antagonists, and also causes dizziness, feeling of tiredness, hallucinations, drowsiness, and confusion. In case of development of adverse reactions, if possible, it is necessary to stop using the drug or reduce its dose, in case of an overdose or other need, prescribe symptomatic therapy. Information on the safety of cholinesterase inhibitors and NMDA receptor antagonists presented in the article is of practical importance for healthcare professionals, as it allows them to assess the possible risks associated with the use of drugs of these groups more accurately. In addition, the information can be used to optimize and individualize the pharmacotherapy regimens for patients with dementia, including the development of domestic protocols for the deprescribing of drugs (evidence-based practice of withdrawal, replacement or gradual dose reduction) in the elderly.
The neurovascular protective effects of huperzine A on D-galactose-induced inflammatory damage in the rat hippocampus.

Abstract:Background: Chronic administration of D-galactose (D-gal) results in oxidative stress and chronic inflammatory aging. Age-related changes in the brain result in neurovascular damage and blood-brain barrier (BBB) dysfunction. However, little is known regarding D-gal-induced neurovascular damage, as well as the protective effects of huperzine A. Objective: The purpose of this study was to utilize a D-gal-induced rat model to investigate the activation of neurovascular inflammatory damage and apoptosis in the rat hippocampus and to understand whether huperzine A alleviates D-gal-induced neuronal and vascular inflammatory injury. Methods: Aging rats were treated with D-gal (300 mg/kg s.c. for 8 weeks), were coadministered D-gal and huperzine A (D-gal 300 mg/kg and huperzine A 0.1 mg/kg s.c. for 8 weeks) or served as the saline-treated control group rats (same volume of saline given subcutaneously for 8 weeks). Changes in hippocampal morphology and biomarkers of inflammatory damage were analyzed. Results: Our study revealed that chronic administration of D-gal resulted in the activation of glia and vascular endothelial cells and upregulation of mRNA and protein levels of cell-associated adhesion molecules and inflammatory cytokines via nuclear factor (NF)-kappa B inhibitor degradation and NF-kappa B nuclear translocation. The inflammatory injury caused significant BBB dysfunction, decreased density of tight junctions (TJs) and apoptosis in the rat hippocampus. Coadministration of huperzine A not only markedly inhibited the D-gal-induced increase in acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, but also alleviated D-gal-induced neurovascular damage by inhibiting D-gal-induced NF-kappa B activation, improving cerebrovascular function and suppressing the D-gal-induced decrease in the density and protein levels of TJs and cell apoptosis. Conclusions: Our findings provided evidence that D-gal induced a proinflammatory phenotype mediated by NF-kappa B in the rat hippocampus. Moreover, huperzine A suppressed D-gal-induced neurovascular damage and BBB dysfunction, partly by preventing NF-kappa B nuclear translocation. The inhibiting effect of huperzine A on AChE activity might play an important role in attenuating D-gal-induced inflammatory damage. (C) 2014 S. Karger AG, Basel

Abstract:Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a burgeoning social and healthcare problem. Cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEIs) are employed for symptomatic treatment of AD, but often elicit adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Herein, the potency of the ChEIs, donepezil, tacrine, berberine, and galantamine to inhibit human or Torpedo californica acetylcholinesterase (tcAChE) proteins were evaluated. The efficacy of dual-drug combinations to inhibit human AChE directly and within differentiated neurons was also quantified. ChEI potency was in the order: donepezil > tacrine > berberine > galantamine for both AChEs. Dual-drug combinations of berberine and tacrine (BerTac), berberine and galantamine (BerGal), and tacrine and donepezil (TacDon) all produced synergistic outcomes for AChE inhibition. Donepezil and berberine (DonBer) and tacrine and galantamine (TacGal) elicited antagonistic responses. Donepezil and galantamine (DonGal) was synergistic for human AChE but antagonistic for tcAChE. After application of dual-drug combinations to neuronal cells, BerTac, BerGal, DonGal, and DonBer all showed synergistic inhibition of AChE, TacDon additive, and TacGal antagonistic effects. BerGal produced the most potent synergism and reduced total drug dose by 72%. Individual ChEIs or dual-drug combinations were relatively non-toxic to neuronal cells, and only reduced cell viability at concentrations two–three orders of magnitude greater than that required to inhibit AChE. In summary, dual-drug combinations of ChEIs potentially represent a novel means of AD patient treatment, with reduced and more cost-effective drug dosing, and lowered likelihood of ADRs.

Abstract:We present a polynomial time algorithm that, given a unique game of value 1 − c/ log n, satisfies a constant fraction of constraints, where n is the number of variables. This improves an algorithm of Trevisan (ECCC TR05-34), that satisfies a constant fraction of constraints in unique games of value 1 − c/(log n) and, for sufficiently large alphabets, it improves an algorithm of Khot (STOC’02) that satisfies a constant fraction of constraints in unique games of value 1− c/(k(log k)), where k is the size of the alphabet. Our algorithm is based on semidefinite programming. The result presented in this note will be incorporated in a later version of ECCC TR05-34. 1 The Semidefinite Program A unique game [FL92, Kho02] is presented as a graph G = (V,E), a set S and a permutation πe : S → S for every edge e ∈ E. We think of a unique game as a constraint satisfaction problem where there is a variable for every vertex u, variables take values in the set S, and every edge e = (u, v) with associated permutation πe : S → S defines the constraint v = π(u,v)(u). The goal is to find an assignment that satisfies as many constraints as possible. The value of a unique game is the fraction of constraints satisfied by an optimal assignment. Abstract:BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to examine patterns of domestic activity and ambulatory oxygen usage in patients with COPD in their domestic environment. METHODS Twenty patients (14 men; mean age, 73.4 years [SD, 6.8 years]; FEV1, 1.0 L [SD, 0.5 L]) with stable COPD were recruited after completing a 7-week pulmonary rehabilitation program. Patients were either hypoxic at rest or had desaturation during exercise. Patients were randomized to an 8-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of cylinder oxygen vs cylinder air. Total domestic physical activity and health-related quality of life (HRQL) measures were recorded before and after intervention. RESULTS There were no significant changes in domestic activity or HRQL measures after the intervention for either cylinder oxygen or cylinder air, except for a worsening of the Chronic Respiratory Questionnaire dyspnea domain on cylinder air. There was a significant increase in mean duration (minutes per day) of cylinder use (p < 0.05) between weeks 1 vs 7 and weeks 1 vs 8 for the oxygen group. However, when comparing the two groups together, there were no between-group differences in cylinder use or time spent outside the home. Over the 8 weeks the majority of patients were using the cylinders in the home rather than outside, however, the number of times patients reported using the cylinders outside the home increased over the 8 weeks for the oxygen group. CONCLUSION In the short term, ambulatory oxygen therapy is not associated with improvements in physical activity, HRQL, or time spent away from home. However, the use of cylinder oxygen increased over the 8 weeks compared to cylinder air. Patients need time to learn how to use oxygen, and ambulatory oxygen appears to enhance activities rather than increase them.

Abstract:Previous and more recent studies show that cholinesterase inhibitors (ChE-Is) are an important possibility for therapeutic intervention in Alzheimer's Disease, sepsis and other inflammatory syndromes. ChE-Is maintain high levels of acetylcholine (ACh) determining beneficial effects on the disease process. Despite numerous efforts to identify the appropriate choice of agents and dose of ChE-Is, a common protocol regarding concentration- and species-dependent differences in inhibitory potency (IC 50) of clinical relevant ChE-Is is still not available. To evaluate the in vitro sensitivity of Acetyl- and Butyrylcholinesterase (AChE, BChE), we compared the concentration-response effects of physostigmine and neostigmine on cholinesterases in whole blood from rat and human. A spectrophotometrical test system based on in vitro Ellman's reagent has been used to determine the kinetic properties of clinical relevant ChE-Is. In vitro, the enzyme activity of human AChE and BChE was inhibited in a concentration-dependent manner until a residual activity of 4-6% for AChE and 20-30% for BChE (IC 50 human AChE: 0.117 ± 0.007 μM physostigmine, 0.062 ± 0.003 μM neostigmine; IC 50 human BChE: 0.373 ± 0.089 μM neostigmine; 0.059 ± 0.012 μM physostigmine). The inhibition curve of rat BChE in contrast showed no concentration-dependency for physostigmine and neostigmine (87% residual activity even at high inhibitor concentrations). Rat AChE was inhibited in a concentration-dependent manner until a residual activity of 53%. The results suggest that cholinesterases from human and rat show marked species- and inhibitor-dependent differences in sensitivity to physostigmine and neostigmine. Knowledge of such differences may be critical in assessing the possible therapeutic effects of ChE-Is in both species and may guide researchers in the optimal design of future experiments regarding the application of ChE-Is.
Naphthoquinones and anthraquinones: Exploring their impact on acetylcholinesterase enzyme activity

Abstract:The identification of novel acetylcholinesterase inhibitors holds significant relevance in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD), the prevailing form of dementia. The exploration of alternative inhibitors to the conventional acetylcholinesterase inhibitors is steadily gaining prominence. Quinones, categorized as plant metabolites, represent a specific class of compounds. In this study, the inhibitory effects of various naphthoquinone derivatives, along with anthraquinone and its derivatives, on the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzyme were investigated for this purpose. An in vitro investigation was conducted to examine the effects of these compounds in order to clarify the possible mechanism of inhibition in the interaction between the enzyme and chemicals. In addition, an in silico investigation was carried out to understand the conceivable inhibitor binding process to the enzyme's active site. The acquired outcomes corroborated the in vitro results. The AChE enzyme was found to be effectively inhibited by both naphthoquinones and anthraquinones, with inhibition constant (KI) values ranging from 0.014 to 0.123 μM (micormolar). The AChE enzyme was inhibited differently by this quinone and its derivatives. Although derivatives of naphthoquinone and anthraquinone exhibited a competitive inhibitory effect, derivatives of anthraquinone exhibited a noncompetitive inhibition effect. Furthermore, because it had the lowest KI value of any of these substances, 1,5‐dihydroxyanthraquinone (1c) was shown to be the most potent inhibitor. The findings will add to the body of knowledge on the creation of fresh, potent, and successful treatment approaches.

Abstract:A series of multitarget-directed ligands (MTDLs) was designed by functionalizing a pseudo-irreversible butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibitor. The obtained hybrids were investigated in vitro regarding their hBChE and hAChE inhibition, their enzyme kinetics, and their antioxidant physicochemical properties (DPPH, ORAC, metal chelating). In addition, in vitro assays were applied to investigate antioxidant effects using murine hippocampal HT22 cells and immunomodulatory effects on the murine microglial N9 cell line. The MTDLs retained their antioxidative properties compared to the parent antioxidant-moieties in vitro and the inhibition of hBChE was maintained in the submicromolar range. Representative compounds were tested in a pharmacological Alzheimer's disease (AD) mouse model and demonstrated very high efficacy at doses as low as 0.1 mg/kg. The most promising compound was also tested in BChE–/– mice and showed reduced efficacy. Abstract:Alzheimer's disease (AD) is initially and primarily associated with the degeneration and alteration in the metabolism of cholinesterases (ChEs). The use of ChEs inhibitors to treat Alzheimer's condition, on the basis of the cholinergic hypothesis of the disease, is, therefore, without grounds. Most disturbing is the fact that the currently available anti-ChEs are designed to inhibit normal ChEs in the brain and throughout the body, but not the abnormal ones. Based on the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) deficiency theory, treatment should be designed to protect the cranial ChEs system from alteration and/or to help that system fight against degeneration through restoring its homeostatic action for brain structure and function instead. The overlap in the clinical, biochemical, molecular-cellular, and pathological alterations seen in patients with AD and individuals with many other brain disorders, which has bewildered many investigators, may now be explained by the shared underlying mismetabolism of brain ChEs. The abnormal metabolism of ChEs existing in asymptomatic subjects may indicate that the system is "at risk" and deserves serious attention. Future perspectives of ChEs research in vivo and in vitro in connection with AD and clinical diagnosis, prevention and treatment are proposed. Several potentially useful therapeutic and preventive means and pharmacological agents in this regard are identified and discussed, such as physical and intellectual stimulation, and a class of drugs including vitamin E, R-(-)-deprenyl (deprenyl, selegiline), acetyl L-carnitine, cytidine diphosphocholine (CDP-choline), centrophenoxine, L-phenylalanine, naloxone, galactose, and lithium, that have been proven to be able to stimulate AChE activity. Their working mechanisms may be through directly changing the configuration of AChE molecules and/or correcting micro- and overall environmental biological conditions for ChEs.

Abstract:The study evaluates ibuprofen derivatives (IBU‐O 1–4, IBU‐I 1–3) with lactone and lactam modifications for their ability to inhibit AChE, BChE, and COX‐2 enzymes related to Alzheimer's treatment. IBU‐I 1 shows strong AChE/BChE inhibition, while IBU‐O 3 has the highest COX‐2 interaction. These results suggest that these compounds have potential therapeutic applications for Alzheimer's disease prevention and treatment. Alzheimer's disease (AD), the most common age‐related neurodegenerative condition, is named after Alois Alzheimer and is marked by a progressive deterioration in memory, cognitive function, and behavior. Research has highlighted the importance of nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in inhibiting the aggregation of amyloid β‐peptide (Aβ), a key feature of AD pathology. Ibuprofen, an NSAID from the propionic acid class, is widely used to manage osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, exhibiting strong anti‐inflammatory and antipyretic effects. However, the drug's acidic group limits its selectivity for cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes and contributes to several adverse effects. This study aimed to modify the acidic moiety of ibuprofen into lactone (IBU‐O 1–4) and lactam (IBU‐I 1–3) derivatives to mitigate these side effects. The structural properties of the synthesized imidazolone (IBU‐I 1–3) and oxazolone (IBU‐O 1–4) derivatives were characterized through Q‐TOF LC‐MS, 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR, and IR spectroscopy. Molecular docking studies followed by Ellman's method assessed the inhibitory effects of these compounds on acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), while an enzyme immunoassay (EIA) kit was used to evaluate their inhibition of cyclooxygenase‐2 (COX‐2).

Abstract:In this study, we evaluated the effects of hopeahainol A, a novel acetylcholinesterase inhibitor (AChEI) from Hopea hainanensis, on H2O2-induced cytotoxicity in PC12 cells and the possible mechanism. Exposure of PC12 cells to 200μM H2O2 caused cell apoptosis, reduction in cell viability and antioxidant enzyme activities, increment in malondialdehyde (MDA) level, and leakage of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Pretreatment of the cells with hopeahainol A at 0.1–10μM before H2O2 exposure significantly attenuated those changes in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, hopeahainol A could mitigate intracellular accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and Ca2+, the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and the increase of caspase-3, -8 and -9 activities induced by H2O2. These results show that hopeahainol A protects PC12 cells from H2O2 injury by modulating endogenous antioxidant enzymes, scavenging ROS and prevention of apoptosis. There was potential for hopeahainol A to be used in treating Alzheimer's disease (AD) that involved acetylcholinesterase, free radical, oxidative damage and cell apoptosis.
