Abstract:In this paper, we consider asymptotically flat Riemannian manifolds endowed with a continuous metric and the metric is smooth away from a compact subset with certain conditions. If the metric is Lipschitz and the scalar curvature is nonnegative away from a closed subset with (n - 1)-dimensional Hausdorff measure zero, then we prove that the ADM mass of each end is nonnegative. Furthermore, if the ADM mass of some end is zero, then we prove that the manifold is isometric to the Euclidean space. The Hausdorff measure condition is optimal, which confirms a conjecture of Lee in 2013. The proof of the nonnegativity is based on a smoothing argument with some new estimates such as a L-1-scalar curvature approximation estimates. The proof of the rigidity relies on the RCD theory where we show that the manifold has nonnegative Ricci curvature in RCD sense. The idea involving RCD theory in the proof turns out to be much more suitable in the study of the rigidity for continuous metrics. Furthermore, our result generalizes the result of Lee and LeFloch (Commun Math Phys 339(1):99-120, 2015) from spin to non-spin.

Abstract:In this article we first show that any finite cover of the moduli space of closed Riemann surfaces of genus $g$ with $g\geq 2$ does not admit any Riemannian metric $ds^2$ of nonnegative scalar curvature such that $ds^2 \succ ds_{T}^2$ where $ds_{T}^2$ is the Teichm\"uller metric. Our second result is the proof that any cover $M$ of the moduli space $\mathbb{M}_{g}$ of a closed Riemann surface $S_{g}$ does not admit any complete Riemannian metric of uniformly positive scalar curvature in the quasi-isometry class of the Teichm\"uller metric, which implies a conjecture of Farb-Weinberger.

Abstract:The norm properties of Lyapunov mappings and their restrictions on symmetric and skew-symmetric subspaces are investigated. For non-negative, non-positive, and tridiagonal matrices, this paper gives an affirmative answer to an open conjecture which says that the norm of a Lyapunov mapping over the space of real square matrices equals that of its restricted map over the subspace of real symmetric matrices. In addition, matrix transformation and norm relationships on certain matrices arising from the Lyapunov mapping and its restrictions are provided.

Abstract:A linear map $\Phi$ between matrix spaces is called cross-positive if it is positive on orthogonal pairs $(U,V)$ of positive semidefinite matrices in the sense that $\langle U,V\rangle:=\text{Tr}(UV)=0$ implies $\langle \Phi(U),V\rangle\geq0$, and is completely cross-positive if all its ampliations $I_n\otimes \Phi$ are cross-positive. (Completely) cross-positive maps arise in the theory of operator semigroups, where they are sometimes called exponentially-positive maps, and are also important in the theory of affine processes on symmetric cones in mathematical finance. To each $\Phi$ as above a bihomogeneous form is associated by $p_\Phi(x,y)=y^T\Phi(xx^T)y$. Then $\Phi$ is cross-positive if and only if $p_\Phi$ is nonnegative on the variety of pairs of orthogonal vectors $\{(x,y)\mid x^Ty=0\}$. Moreover, $\Phi$ is shown to be completely cross-positive if and only if $p_\Phi$ is a sum of squares modulo the principal ideal $(x^Ty)$. These observations bring the study of cross-positive maps into the powerful setting of real algebraic geometry. Here this interplay is exploited to prove quantitative bounds on the fraction of cross-positive maps that are completely cross-positive. Detailed results about cross-positive maps $\Phi$ mapping between $3\times 3$ matrices are given. Finally, an algorithm to produce cross-positive maps that are not completely cross-positive is presented.

Abstract:This paper studies the diameter of the numerical range of bounded operators on Hilbert space and the induced seminorm, called the numerical diameter, on bounded linear maps between operator systems which is sensible in the case of unital maps and their scalar multiples. It is shown that the completely bounded numerical diameter is a norm that is comparable but not equal to the completely bounded norm. This norm is particularly interesting in the case of unital completely positive maps and their sections.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth projective manifold with $\dim _{\mathbb{C}}X=n$ . We show that if a line bundle $L$ is $(n-1)$ -ample, then it is $(n-1)$ -positive. This is a partial converse to the Andreotti–Grauert theorem. As an application, we show that a projective manifold $X$ is uniruled if and only if there exists a Hermitian metric $\unicode[STIX]{x1D714}$ on $X$ such that its Ricci curvature $\text{Ric}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D714})$ has at least one positive eigenvalue everywhere.

Abstract:General $(\alpha, \beta)$ norms are an important class of Minkowski norms which contains the original $(\alpha, \beta)$ norms. In this note, by studying the behavior of the Darboux curves of the indicatrix, we give a characterization of 3-dimensional general $(\alpha, \beta)$ norms. By studying the isoperimetric properties of the indicatrix, as well as the isoperimetric inequalities in a Minkowski space, we give some global geometric quantities which characterizes Randers norms of arbitrary dimensions.

Abstract:A linear map between matrix spaces is positive if it maps positive semidefinite matrices to positive semidefinite ones, and is called completely positive if all its ampliations are positive. In this article quantitative bounds on the fraction of positive maps that are completely positive are proved. A main tool are real algebraic geometry techniques developed by Blekherman to study the gap between positive polynomials and sums of squares. Finally, an algorithm to produce positive maps which are not completely positive is given.

Abstract:Apply the $L^2$ technique developed by Deng-Ning-Wang-Zhou,we give a new characterization of Nakano $q$-positivity for Riemannian flat vector bundle in the sense of $L^2 $ estimate for the $d$ operator. We also give a new characterization of the positivity of the curvature operator associated to the Riemannian metric on manifold in a local version in the sense of $L^2$ estimate. Then we prove two results parallel to Liu-Yang-Zhou's answer to Lempert's question to Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle. We also study the boundary convexity of relative compact domain in certain Riemannian manifold with convexity restrictions.

Abstract:Using minimal hypersurfaces, we obtain topological obstructions to admitting complete metrics with positive scalar curvature on a given class of non-compact n-manifolds with n less than 8. We show that the Liouville theorem for a locally conformally flat n-manifold of non-negative scalar curvature follows from the impossibility of there being a positive scalar curvature metric on its connect sum with the n-torus. With the recent work of Chodosh-Li, the Liouville theorem is now proved in all remaining cases. Finally, using MOTS instead of minimal hypersurfaces, we show an Initial Data Set version of these results with the Dominant Energy Scalar appearing instead of positive scalar curvature.

Rank properties of exposed positive maps. Linear Multilinear Alg. 2013;61:970–975] that the map Ads generates an exposed ray of the convex cone of all positive linear maps. In this note, we provide two alternative proofs, using Choi matrices and Woronowicz's method, respectively.

Abstract:In this paper, we endow the space of continuous translation invariant valuations on convex sets generated by mixed volumes coupled with a suitable Radon measure on tuples of convex bodies with two appropriate norms. This enables us to construct a continuous extension of the convolution operator on smooth valuations to non-smooth valuations, which are in the completion of the spaces of valuations with respect to these norms. The novelty of our approach lies in the fact that our proof does not rely on the general theory of wave fronts, but on geometric inequalities deduced from optimal transport methods. We apply this result to prove a variant of Minkowski’s existence theorem, and generalize a theorem of Favre–Wulcan and Lin in complex dynamics over toric varieties by studying the linear actions on the Banach spaces of valuations and by studying their corresponding eigenspaces.
The Wonderful Geometry of the Vandermonde map

Abstract:We study the geometry of the image of the nonnegative orthant under the power-sum map and the elementary symmetric polynomials map. After analyzing the image in finitely many variables, we concentrate on the limit as the number of variables approaches infinity. We explain how the geometry of the limit plays a crucial role in undecidability results in nonnegativity of symmetric polynomials, deciding validity of trace inequalities in linear algebra, and extremal combinatorics - recently observed by Blekherman, Raymond, and F. Wei. We verify the experimental observation that the image has the combinatorial geometry of a cyclic polytope made by Melánová, Sturmfels, and Winter, and generalize results of Choi, Lam, and Reznick on nonnegative even symmetric polynomials. We also show that undecidability does not hold for the normalized power sum map.

Abstract:A unification version of the Perron–Frobenius theorem and the Krein–Rutman theorem for increasing, positively 1-homogeneous, compact mappings is given on ordered Banach spaces without monotonic norm. A Collatz-type minimax characterization of the positive eigenvalue with positive eigenvector is obtained. The power method in computing the largest eigenpair is also extended.

Abstract:In solar interior, it is the equilibrium velocity distribution of few high-energy protons and nuclei that participates in determining nuclear fusion reaction rates. So, it is inappropriate to use the Maxwellian velocity distribution to calculate the rates of solar nuclear fusion reactions. We have to use the relativistic equilibrium velocity distribution for the purpose. The nuclear fusion reaction rate based on the relativistic equilibrium velocity distribution has a reduction factor with respect to that based on the Maxwellian distribution. The reduction factor depends on the temperature, reduced mass and atomic numbers of the studied nuclear fusion reactions, in other words, it varies with the sort of neutrinos. Substituting the relativistic equilibrium velocity distribution for the Maxwellian distribution is not important for the calculation of solar sound speeds. The relativistic equilibrium velocity distribution, if adopted in standard solar models, will lower solar neutrino fluxes and change solar neutrino energy spectra but maintain solar sound speeds. This velocity distribution is possibly a solution to the solar neutrino problem.

Abstract:The objective of this manuscript is to investigate the structure of linear maps on the space of real symmetric matrices that leave invariant the closed convex cones of copositive and completely positive matrices (COP n and CP n ). A description of an invertible linear map on such that L (CP n ) ⊂ CP n is obtained in terms of semipositive maps over the positive semidefinite cone and the cone of symmetric nonnegative matrices for n ⩽ 4, with specific calculations for n = 2. Preserver properties of the Lyapunov map X ↦ AX + XA t , the generalized Lyapunov map X ↦ AXB + B t XA t , and the structure of the dual of the cone π (CP n ) (for n ⩽ 4) are brought out. We also highlight a different way to determine the structure of an invertible linear map on that leaves invariant the closed convex cone .
