Abstract:Geometry of conformal minimal two-spheres immersed in $G(2,6;\mathbb{R})$ is studied in this paper by harmonic maps. We construct a non-homogeneous constant curved minimal two-sphere in $G(2,6;\mathbb{R})$, and give a classification theorem of linearly full conformal minimal immersions of constant curvature from $S^2$ to $G(2,6;\mathbb{R})$, or equivalently, a complex hyperquadric $Q_{4}$, which illustrates minimal two-spheres of constant curvature in $Q_{4}$ are in general not congruent.

Abstract:The geometry of conformal minimal two-spheres immersed in G(2,6;R) is studied in this paper by harmonic maps. Then in most cases, we determine the linearly full reducible conformal minimal immersions from S^2 to G(2,8;R) identified with the complex hyperquadric Q_6. We also give some examples, up to an isometry of G(2,8;R), in which none of the spheres are congruent, with the same Gaussian curvature.

Abstract:In this paper, we reformulate the Euler-Lagrange equations of Willmore surfaces in S-n as the flatness of a family of certain loop algebra-valued 1-forms. Therefore we can give the Weierstrass type representation of conformal Willmore surfaces. We also discuss the relations between conformal Willmore surfaces in S-n and minimal surfaces in constant curvature spaces S-n, R-n, H-n, and prove that some special Willmore surfaces can be derived from minimal surfaces in S-n, R-n, H-n.

Abstract:The Clifford 2-torus in and the equlaterial 2-torus in are known as the only minimal immersions of 2-tori into spheres by the first eigenfunctions (called -minimal for short). For , the Clifford n -torus in might be the only known example of -minimal n -tori in the literature. By discussing the general construction of homogeneous minimal flat n -tori in spheres, we construct several new examples of -minimal flat 3-tori and 4-tori. In particular, the existence of 2-parameter family of non-congruent -minimal flat 4-tori is shown for the first time. We obtain the complete classification for -minimal immersions of conformally flat 3-tori and 4-tori in spheres, by some detailed investigations of shortest vectors in lattices, which could be of independent interests. Using them, we also solve the Berger's problem (finding the maximal value of the dilation-invariant functional ) among all flat 3-tori and 4-tori.

Abstract:We classify simply connected compact Sasaki manifolds of dimension 2n+1 with positive transverse bisectional curvature. In particular, the Kähler cone corresponding to such manifolds must be bi-holomorphic to Cn+1\{0}. As an application we recover the theorem of Mori and Siu–Yau on the Frankel conjecture and extend it to certain orbifold version. The main idea is to deform such Sasaki manifolds to the standard round sphere in two steps, both fixing the complex structure on the Kähler cone. First, we deform the metric along the Sasaki–Ricci flow and obtain a limit Sasaki–Ricci soliton with positive transverse bisectional curvature. Then by varying the Reeb vector field which essentially decreases the volume functional, we deform the Sasaki–Ricci soliton to a Sasaki–Einstein metric with positive transverse bisectional curvature, i.e. a round sphere. The second deformation is only possible when one treats simultaneously regular and irregular Sasaki manifolds, even if the manifold one starts with is regular (quasi-regular), i.e. Kähler manifolds (orbifolds).

Abstract:The classification of Willmore two-spheres in the n-dimensional sphere S-n is a long-standing problem, solved only when n = 3, 4 by Bryant, Ejiri, Musso and Montiel independently. In this paper we give a classification when n = 5. There are three types of such surfaces up to Mobius transformations: (1) superconformal surfaces in S-4; (2) minimal surfaces in R-5; (3) adjoint transforms of superconformal minimal surfaces in R-5. Abstract:From the Riemannian geometric point of view, one of the most fundamental problems in the study of Lagrangian submanifolds is the classiflcation of Lagrangian submanifolds with parallel second fundamental form. In 1980’s, H. Naitoh completely classifled the Lagrangian submanifolds with parallel second fundamental form and without Euclidean factor in complex projective space, by using the theory of Lie groups and symmetric spaces. He showed that such a submanifold is always locally symmetric and is one of the symmetric spaces: SO(k + 1)=SO(k)(k ‚ 2), SU(k)=SO(k)(k ‚ 3), SU(k)(k ‚ 3), SU(2k)=Sp(k)(k ‚ 3), E6=F4. In this paper, we completely classify the Lagrangian submanifolds in complex projective space with parallel second fundamental form by an elementary geometrical method. We prove that such a Lagrangian submanifold is either totally geodesic or the Calabi product of a point with a lower dimensional Lagrangian submanifold with parallel second fundamental form, or the Calabi product of two lower dimensional Lagrangian submanifolds with parallel second fundamental form, or one of the standard symmetric spaces: SU(k)=SO(k)(k ‚ 3), SU(k)(k ‚ 3), SU(2k)=Sp(k)(k ‚ 3), E6=F4. As the arguments are of a local nature, at the same time, due to the correspondence between C-parallel Lagrangian submanifolds in Sasakian space forms and parallel Lagrangian submanifolds in complex space forms, we can also give a complete classiflcation of all Cparallel submanifolds of S 2n+1 equipped with its standard Sasakian structure. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classiflcation: Primary 53B25; Secondary 53C42

Abstract:This paper studies conformal biharmonic immersions. We first study the transformations of Jacobi operator and the bitension field under conformal change of metrics. We then obtain an invariant equation for a conformal biharmonic immersion of a surface into Euclidean 3-space. As applications, we construct a two-parameter family of non-minimal conformal biharmonic immersions of cylinder into $${\mathbb{R}^3}$$ and some examples of conformal biharmonic immersions of four-dimensional Euclidean space into sphere and hyperbolic space, thus providing many simple examples of proper biharmonic maps with rich geometric meanings. These suggest that there are abundant proper biharmonic maps in the family of conformal immersions. We also explore the relationship between biharmonicity and holomorphicity of conformal immersions of surfaces.

Abstract:In this paper, we apply a result of the classification of a compact cohomogeneity one Riemannian manifold with a compact Lie group G to obtain a classification of compact cohomogeneity one locally conformal Kähler manifolds. In particular, we prove that the compact complex manifold is a complex one-dimensional torus bundle over a projective rational homogeneous, or cohomogeneity one manifold except of a class of manifolds with a generalized Hopf surface bundle over a projective rational homogeneous space. Additionally, it is a homogeneous compact complex manifold under the complexification GC of the given compact Lie group G under an extra condition that the related closed one form is cohomologous to zero on the generic G orbit. Moreover, the semi-simple part S of the Lie group action has hypersurface orbits, i.e., it is of cohomogeneity one with respect to the semi-simple Lie group S in that special case.

Abstract:Let Mn(n ≥ 2) be an immersed umbilic-free hypersurface in the (n+1)-dimensional unit sphere Sn+1. Then Mn is associated with a so-called Möbius metric g, and a Möbius second fundamental form B which are invariants of Mnunder the Möbius transformation group of Sn+1. In this paper, we classify all umbilic-free hypersurfaces with parallel Möbius second fundamental form.
On some manifolds with positive sigma invariants and their realizing conformal classes

Abstract:We prove that the metric of the Riemannian product $(\mb{S}^k(r_1)\times \mb{S}^{n-k}(r_2), g^n_k)$, $r_1^2+r_2^2=1$, is a Yamabe metric in its conformal class if, and only if, either $g^n_k$ is Einstein, or the linear isometric embedding of this manifold into the standard $n+1$ dimensional sphere is minimal. We combine this result with Simons' gap theorem to show that, for $2\leq k\leq n-2$, the conformal class of the product metric with minimal embedding, which is at the upper end of Simons' gap theorem, realizes the sigma invariant of $\mb{S}^k\times \mb{S}^{n-k}$, and that this is the only class that achieves such a value. Similarly, we use coherent minimal isometric embeddings of suitably scaled standard Einstein metrics $g$ on $\mb{P}^n(\mb{R})$, $\mb{P}^n(\mb{C})$, and $\mb{P}^n(\mb{H})$ into unit spheres, and determine the sigma invariant of these projective spaces, prove that in each case the conformal class $[g]$ realizes it, and that this realizing class is unique.

Conformal CMC-Surfaces in Lorentzian Space Forms*

Abstract:Let ℚ3 be the common conformal compactification space of the Lorentzian space forms $\mathbb{R}^{3}_{1} ,\mathbb{S}^{3}_{1} \;{\text{and}}\;\mathbb{H}^{3}_{1} $. We study the conformal geometry of space-like surfaces in ℚ3. It is shown that any conformal CMC-surface in ℚ3 must be conformally equivalent to a constant mean curvature surface in $\mathbb{R}^{3}_{1} ,\mathbb{S}^{3}_{1} \;{\text{and}}\;\mathbb{H}^{3}_{1} $. We also show that if x : M → ℚ3 is a space-like Willmore surface whose conformal metric g has constant curvature K, then either K = −1 and x is conformally equivalent to a minimal surface in $\mathbb{R}^{3}_{1}$, or K = 0 and x is conformally equivalent to the surface $\mathbb{H}^{1} {\left( {\frac{1}{{{\sqrt 2 }}}} \right)} \times \mathbb{H}^{1} {\left( {\frac{1}{{{\sqrt 2 }}}} \right)}\;{\text{in}}\;\mathbb{H}^{3}_{1} .$
A conformal invariant and its application to the nonexistence of minimal submanifolds

Abstract:Let $(M^m,g)$ be an $m$-dimensional closed Riemannian manifold with non-negative sectional curvatures, $m\ge 3$. We define a conformal invariant and prove that, if the conformal invariant is bounded from above by a constant depending only on $m$, then there are no closed $n$-dimensional stable minimal submanifolds in $M$ for all $\xi(m)\le n\le m-2$, where $\xi(m)=1$ when $3\le m\le 5$ and $\xi(m)=2$ when $m\ge 6$. In particular, a conformal $m$-sphere with non-negative sectional curvatures does not admit any closed $n$-dimensional stable minimal submanifold for all $\xi(m)\le n\le m-2$.

On embedded minimal hypersurfaces in $S^{n+1}$ with symmetries

Abstract: In this note, we generalize a characterization of the Clifford torus due to Ros. Let $f:M\rightarrow S^{n+1}$ be an embedded closed minimal hypersurface. Assume there are $(n+2)$ great hyperspheres of $S^{n+1}$ perpendicular to each other, such that $M$ is symmetric with respect to them. Let $S$ denote the square of the length of the second fundamental form of $f$ and let $\bar S=\frac{1}{Vol(M)}\int_{M} Sd M$ be the average of $S$. Then $\bar S\geq n$ with equality holding if and only if $f$ is the Clifford torus $C_{m,n-m}$. It can be rewritten as a Simons' type theorem: If $0\leq \int_M (n-S)d M$, then either $S\equiv0$ or $S\equiv n$. This answers partially a conjecture by Perdomo. Moreover, the estimate of the Willmore energy of $f$ is built: $W(M)\geq n^{\frac{n}{2}}Vol(M)$.

Abstract:We approach the study of totally real immersions of smooth manifolds into holomorphic Riemannian space forms of constant sectional curvature -1. We introduce a notion of first and second fundamental form, we prove that they satisfy a similar version of the classic Gauss-Codazzi equations, and conversely that solutions of Gauss-Codazzi equations are immersion data of some equivariant map. This study has some interesting geometric consequences: 1) it provides a formalism to study immersions of surfaces into SL(2,C) and into the space of geodesics of H^3; 2) it generalizes the classical theory of immersions into non-zero curvature space forms, leading to a model for the transitioning of hypersurfaces among H^n, AdS^n, dS^n and S^n; 3) we prove that a holomorphic family of immersion data corresponds to a holomorphic family of immersions, providing an effective way to construct holomorphic maps into the SO(n,C)-character variety. In particular we will point out a simpler proof of the holomorphicity of the complex landslide; 4) we see how, under certain hypothesis, complex metrics on a surface (i.e. complex bilinear forms of its complexified tangent bundle) of constant curvature -1 correspond to pairs of projective surfaces with the same holonomy. Applying Bers Double Uniformization Theorem to this construction we prove a Uniformization Theorem for complex metrics on a surface.
