Abstract:In this paper we propose a new concept of differentiability for interval-valued functions. This concept is based on the properties of the Hausdorff-Pompeiu metric and avoids using the generalized Hukuhara difference.

Abstract:This paper deals with the new concept of interval whose both the bounds themselves are also intervals. We name this new type of interval as Type-2 interval. Here we have introduced Type-2 interval-valued function and its properties. To serve this purpose, we have defined a distance on the set of all Type-2 intervals, named as extended Moore distance for Type-2 intervals which is a metric on the set of all Type-2 intervals. Then we have shown that the space of Type-2 interval is a complete metric space with respect to extended Moore distance. Then we have introduced the concept of limit-continuity for Type-2 interval-valued function of single variable and also, we have derived some elementary properties of this concept. Subsequently, we have presented the idea of generalised Hukuhara difference on the set of Type-2 intervals. Finally, using this difference, we have defined gH-differentiability of Type-2 interval-valued function and discussed some of its properties.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that generalized Hukuhara directional differentiability of an interval-valued function (IVF) defined on Riemannian manifolds is not equivalent to the directional differentiability of its center and half-width functions and hence not to its end point functions. This contrasts with S.-L. Chen's \cite{chen} assertion which says the equivalence holds in terms of endpoint functions of an IVF which is defined on a Hadamard manifold. Additionally, the paper addresses some other inaccuracies which arise when assuming the convexity of a function at a single point in its domain. In light of these arguments, the paper presents some basic results that relate to both the convexity and directional differentiability of an IVF.

Generalized Hukuhara Weak Subdifferential and its Application on Identifying Optimality Conditions for Nonsmooth Interval-valued Functions

Abstract:In this article, we introduce the idea of $gH$-weak subdifferential for interval-valued functions (IVFs) and show how to calculate $gH$-weak subgradients. It is observed that a nonempty $gH$-weak subdifferential set is closed and convex. In characterizing the class of functions for which the $gH$-weak subdifferential set is nonempty, it is identified that this class is the collection of $gH$-lower Lipschitz IVFs. In checking the validity of sum rule of $gH$-weak subdifferential for a pair of IVFs, a counterexample is obtained, which reflects that the sum rule does not hold. However, under a mild restriction on one of the IVFs, one-sided inclusion for the sum rule holds. Next, as applications, we employ $gH$-weak subdifferential to provide a few optimality conditions for nonsmooth IVFs. Further, a necessary optimality condition for interval optimization problems with difference of two nonsmooth IVFs as objective is established. Lastly, a necessary and sufficient condition via augmented normal cone and $gH$-weak subdifferential of IVFs for finding weak efficient point is presented.

Abstract:We introduce a class of so-called very weakly locally uniformly differentiable (VWLUD) functions at a point of a general non-Archimedean ordered field extension of the real numbers, , which is real closed and Cauchy complete in the topology induced by the order, and whose Hahn group is Archimedean. This new class of functions is defined by a significantly weaker criterion than that of the class of weakly locally uniformly differentiable (WLUD) functions studied in [1], which is nonetheless sufficient for a slight variation of the inverse function theorem and intermediate value theorem. Similarly, a weaker second order criterion is derived from the previously studied WLUD condition for twice-differentiable functions. We show that VWLUD functions at a point of satisfy the mean value theorem in an interval around that point.
Generalized Hukuhara Hadamard Derivative of Interval-valued Functions and Its Applications to Interval Optimization

Abstract:In this article, we study the notion of gH-Hadamard derivative for interval-valued functions (IVFs) and its applications to interval optimization problems (IOPs). It is shown that the existence of gH-Hadamard derivative implies the existence of gH-Frechet derivative and vise-versa. Further, it is proved that the existence of gH-Hadamard derivative implies the existence of gH-continuity of IVFs. We found that the composition of a Hadamard differentiable real-valued function and a gH-Hadamard differentiable IVF is gHHadamard differentiable. Further, for finite comparable IVF, we prove that the gH-Hadamard derivative of the maximum of all finite comparable IVFs is the maximum of their gH-Hadamard derivative. The proposed derivative is observed to be useful to check the convexity of an IVF and to characterize efficient points of an optimization problem with IVF. For a convex IVF, we prove that if at a point the gH-Hadamard derivative does not dominate to zero, then the point is an efficient point. Further, it is proved that at an efficient point, the gH-Hadamard derivative does not dominate zero and also contains zero. For constraint IOPs, we prove an extended Karush-Kuhn-Tucker condition by using the proposed derivative. The entire study is supported by suitable examples.

Abstract:The paper gives a brief account of the spaces of interval functions defined through the concepts of H-continuity, D-continuity and S-continuity. All three continuity concepts generalize the usual concept of continuity for real (point valued) functions. The properties of the functions in these new spaces are discussed and investigated, preserving essential properties of the usual continuous real functions being of primary interest. Various ways in which the spaces of H-continuous, D-continuous and S-continuous interval functions complement the spaces of continuous real functions are discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, we give some comments on the recent results about the switching points for the gH-differentiability of interval-valued functions. We show by counterexamples that there exist switching points which are not critical points of the length function, and that there are GH-differentiable functions with an infinite number of switching points and gH-differentiable functions with an uncountable number of switching points. After reclassifying the switching points more finely, we also present some characterizations for the switching points. The obtained results correct the known ones in the literature.

Abstract:A notion of differentiability is being proposed for maps between Wasserstein spaces of order 2 of smooth, connected and complete Riemannian manifolds. Due to the nature of the tangent space construction on Wasserstein spaces, we only give a global definition of differentiability, i.e. without a prior notion of pointwise differentiability. With our definition, however, we recover the expected properties of a differential. Special focus is being put on differentiability properties of pushforward maps induced by smooth maps between the underlying manifolds, and on convex mixing of differentiable maps, with an explicit construction of the differential.

Abstract:<p>This study investigates linear fractional difference equations with respect to interval–valued functions. Caputo and Riemann–Liouville differences are defined. <em>w</em>–monotonicity is introduced and discrete Leibniz integral laws are provided. Then exact solutions of two linear equations are obtained by Picard's iteration. In comparison with the deterministic initial problems, the solutions are given in discrete Mittag–Leffler functions with and without delay, respectively. This paper provides a novel tool to understand fractional uncertainty problems on discrete time domains.</p>

Abstract:In this study, we focus on the newly introduced concept of LR-convex interval-valued functions to establish new variants of the Hermite-Hadamard (H-H) type and Pachpatte type inequalities for Riemann-Liouville fractional integrals. By presenting some numerical examples, we also verify the correctness of the results that we have derived in this paper. Because the results, which are related to the differintegral of the rho(1)+rho(2)/2 type, are novel in the context of the LR-convex interval-valued functions, we believe that this will be a useful contribution for motivating future research in this area.

Abstract:In this article, the concepts of gH-subgradients and gH-subdifferentials of interval-valued functions are illustrated. Several important characteristics of the gH-subdifferential of a convex interval-valued function, e.g., closeness, boundedness, chain rule, etc. are studied. Alongside, we prove that gH-subdifferential of a gH-differentiable convex interval-valued function only contains gH-gradient of that interval-valued function. It is observed that the gH-directional derivative of a convex interval-valued function in each direction is maximum of all the products of gH-subgradients and the direction. Importantly, we show that a convex interval-valued function is gH-Lipschitz continuous if it has gH-subgradients at each point in its domain. Furthermore, the relations between efficient solutions of an optimization problem with interval-valued function and its gH-subgradients are derived.

Abstract:This paper focuses on a nonsmooth nonconvex interval-valued optimization problem. For this, we propose interval-valued symmetric invexity, interval-valued symmetric pseudo-invexity and interval-valued symmetric quasi-invexity in terms of the symmetric gH-differentiable interval-valued functions. Some important properties of these generalized convexities are also discussed. By utilizing these new concepts, we establish sufficient Karush–Kuhn–Tucker conditions for the considered problem. Further, the Wolfe and Mond–Weir type dual problems are associated and weak, strong and strict converse duality results have been derived. Finally, we apply the developed theory to a binary classification problem of interval data by support vector machine.

We study boundedness in weighted Lebesgue spaces: Sufficient and necessary conditions for boundedness are given. We construct identity approximation within the framework of the class of operators under study, and two different approaches are given.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain a version of Ekeland's variational principle for interval-valued functions by means of the Dancs-Hegedüs-Medvegyev theorem (Dancs et al. (1983) [14]). We also derive two versions of Ekeland's variational principle involving the generalized Hukuhara Gâteaux differentiability of interval-valued functions as well as a version of Ekeland's variational principle for interval-valued bifunctions. Finally, we apply these new versions of Ekeland's variational principle to fixed point theorems, to interval-valued optimization problems, to the interval-valued Mountain Pass Theorem, to noncooperative interval-valued games, and to interval-valued optimal control problems described by interval-valued differential equations.

Abstract:In this article, the notion of gH-Clarke derivative for interval-valued functions is proposed. To define the concept of gH-Clarke derivatives, the concepts of limit superior, limit inferior, and sublinear interval-valued functions are studied in the sequel. The upper gH-Clarke derivative of a gH-Lipschitz interval-valued function (IVF) is observed to be a sublinear IVF. It is found that every gH-Lipschitz continuous function is upper gH-Clarke differentiable. For a convex and gH-Lipschitz IVF, it is shown that the upper gH-Clarke derivative coincides with the gH-directional derivative. The entire study is supported by suitable illustrative examples.

Abstract:We introduce an adaptation of integral approximation operators to set-valued functions (SVFs, multifunctions), mapping a compact interval [ a , b ] into the space of compact non-empty subsets of . All operators are adapted by replacing the Riemann integral for real-valued functions by the weighted metric integral for SVFs of bounded variation with compact graphs. For such a SVF F , we obtain pointwise error estimates for sequences of integral operators at points of continuity, leading to convergence at such points to F . At points of discontinuity of F , we derive estimates, which yield the convergence to a certain set described in terms of the metric selections of F . To obtain these estimates we refine and extend known results on approximation of real-valued functions by integral operators. Our analysis uses recently defined one-sided local quasi-moduli at points of discontinuity and several notions of local Lipschitz property at points of continuity. We also provide a global approach for error bounds. A multifunction F is represented by the set of all its metric selections, while its approximation (its image under the operator) is represented by the set of images of these metric selections under the operator. A bound on the Hausdorff distance between these two sets of single-valued functions in provides our global estimates. The theory is applied to concrete operators: the Bernstein–Durrmeyer operator and the Kantorovich operator.
