Abstract:We provide a formalism using the $q$-Cartan matrix to compute the instanton partition function of quiver gauge theory on various manifolds. Applying this formalism to eight dimensional setups, we introduce the notion of double quiver gauge theory characterized by a pair of quivers. We also explore the BPS/CFT correspondence in eight dimensions based on the $q$-Cartan matrix formalism.

Gauge origami and quiver W-algebras III: Donaldson--Thomas $qq$-characters

Abstract:We further develop the BPS/CFT correspondence between quiver W-algebras/$qq$-characters and partition functions of gauge origami. We introduce $qq$-characters associated with multi-dimensional partitions with nontrivial boundary conditions which we call Donaldson--Thomas (DT) $qq$-characters. They are operator versions of the equivariant DT vertices of toric Calabi--Yau three and four-folds. Moreover, we revisit the construction of the D8 $qq$-characters with no boundary conditions and give a quantum algebraic derivation of the sign rules of the magnificent four partition function. We also show that under the proper sign rules, the D6 and D8 $qq$-characters with no boundary conditions all commute with each other and discuss its physical interpretation.

Abstract:We explore the quantum algebraic formalism of the gauge origami system in $\mathbb{C}^{4}$, where D2/D4/D6/D8-branes are present. We demonstrate that the contour integral formulas have free field interpretations, leading to the operator formalism of $qq$-characters associated with each D-brane. The $qq$-characters of D2 and D4-branes correspond to screening charges and generators of the affine quiver W-algebra, respectively. On the other hand, the $qq$-characters of D6 and D8-branes represent novel types of $qq$-characters, where monomial terms are characterized by plane partitions and solid partitions. The composition of these $qq$-characters yields the instanton partition functions of the gauge origami system, eventually establishing the BPS/CFT correspondence.

The random variables are the ensembles of Young diagrams. The building block of the gauge origami is associated with a tetrahedron, whose edges are colored by vector spaces. Quiver algebras and their representations for arbitrary quivers

Abstract:The quiver Yangians were originally defined for the quiver and superpotential from string theory on general toric Calabi-Yau threefolds, and serve as BPS algebras of these systems. Their characters reproduce the unrefined BPS indices, which correspond to classical Donaldson-Thomas (DT) invariants. We generalize this construction in two directions. First, we show that this definition extends to arbitrary quivers with potentials. Second, we explain how to define the characters to incorporate the refined BPS indices, which correspond to motivic DT invariants. We focus on two main classes of quivers: the BPS quivers of 4D $N=2$ theories and the quivers from the knot-quiver correspondence. The entire construction allows for straightforward generalizations to trigonometric, elliptic, and generalized cohomologies.

Abstract:In this note, we establish several interesting connections between the super- group gauge theories and the super integrable systems, i.e. gauge theories with supergroups as their gauge groups and integrable systems defined on superalgebras. In particular, we construct the super-characteristic polynomials of super-Toda lattice and elliptic double Calogero-Moser system by considering certain orbifolded instanton partition functions of their corresponding supergroup gauge theories. We also derive an exotic generalization of sl(2) XXX spin chain arising from the instanton partition function of SQCD with super- gauge group, and study its Bethe ansatz equation.

Abstract:We explore the relationship between four-dimensional N=2 quantum field theories and their associated BPS quivers. For a wide class of theories including super-Yang-Mills theories, Argyres-Douglas models, and theories defined by M5-branes on punctured Riemann surfaces, there exists a quiver which implicitly characterizes the field theory. We study various aspects of this correspondence including the quiver interpretation of flavor symmetries, gauging, decoupling limits, and field theory dualities. In general a given quiver describes only a patch of the moduli space of the field theory, and a key role is played by quantum mechanical dualities, encoded by quiver mutations, which relate distinct quivers valid in different patches. Analyzing the consistency conditions imposed on the spectrum by these dualities results in a powerful and novel mutation method for determining the BPS states. We apply our method to determine the BPS spectrum in a wide class of examples, including the strong coupling spectrum of super-Yang-Mills with an ADE gauge group and fundamental matter, and trinion theories defined by M5-branes on spheres with three punctures.

BPS States Meet Generalized Cohomology

Abstract:In this note we review a construction of a BPS Hilbert space in an effective supersymmetric quiver theory with 4 supercharges. We argue abstractly that this space contains elements of an equivariant generalized cohomology theory $E_G^{*}(-)$ of the quiver representation moduli space giving concretely Dolbeault cohomology, K-theory or elliptic cohomology depending on the spacial slice is compactified to a point, a circle or a torus respectively, and something more amorphous in other cases. Furthermore BPS instantons -- basic contributors to interface defects or a Berry connection -- induce a BPS algebra on the BPS Hilbert spaces representing Fourier-Mukai transforms on the quiver representation moduli spaces descending to an algebra over $E_G^{*}(-)$ as its representation. In the cases when the quiver describes a toric Calabi-Yau three-fold (CY${}_3$) the algebra is a respective generalization of the quiver BPS Yangian algebra discussed in the literature, in more general cases it is given by an abstract generalized cohomological Hall algebra.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with a non-compact GIT quotient of a vector space, in the presence of an abelian group action and an equivariant regular function (potential) on the quotient. We define virtual counts of quasimaps from prestable curves to the critical locus of the potential, and prove a gluing formula in the formalism of cohomological field theories. The main examples studied in this paper is when the above setting arises from quivers with potentials, where the above construction gives quantum correction to the equivariant Chow homology of the critical locus. Following similar ideas as in quasimaps to Nakajima quiver varieties studied by the Okounkov school, we analyse vertex functions in several examples, including Hilbert schemes of points on $\mathbb{C}^3$, moduli spaces of perverse coherent systems on the resolved conifold, and a quiver which defines higher $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-spin chains. Bethe equations are calculated in these cases. The construction in the present paper is based on the theory of gauged linear sigma models as well as shifted symplectic geometry of Pantev, Toën, Vaquie and Vezzosi, and uses the virtual pullback formalism of symmetric obstruction theory of Park, which arises from the recent development of Donaldson-Thomas theory of Calabi-Yau 4-folds.

Categorification of integrable representations of quantum groups

Abstract:We categorify the highest weight integrable representations and their tensor products of a symmetric quantum Kac-Moody algebra. As byproducts, we obtain a geometric realization of Lusztig's canonical bases of these representations as well as a new positivity result. The main ingredient in the underlying geometric construction is a class of micro-local perverse sheaves on quiver varieties.

Abstract:We develop a systematic and efficient method of counting single-trace and multi-trace BPS operators with two supercharges, for world-volume gauge theories of N D-brane probes for both N ->infinity and finite N. The techniques are applicable to generic singularities, orbifold, toric, non-toric, complete intersections, et cetera, even to geometries whose precise field theory duals are not yet known. The so-called " plethystic exponential " provides a simple bridge between (1) the defining equation of the Calabi-Yau, (2) the generating function of single-trace BPS operators and (3) the generating function of multitrace operators. Mathematically, fascinating and intricate inter-relations between gauge theory, algebraic geometry, combinatorics and number theory exhibit themselves in the form of plethystics and syzygies.
Quantum $K$-invariants via Quot schemes I

Abstract:We study the virtual Euler characteristics of sheaves over Quot schemes of curves, establishing that these invariants fit into a topological quantum field theory (TQFT) valued in $\mathbb{Z}[[q]]$. Utilizing Quot scheme compactifications alongside the TQFT framework, we derive presentations of the small quantum $K$-ring of the Grassmannian. Our approach offers a new method for finding explicit formulas for quantum $K$-invariants.

Abstract:We introduce coherent states averaged over a gauge group action to study correlators of half BPS states in ${\cal N}=4 $ SYM theory. The overlaps of these averaged coherent states are a generating function of correlators and can be written in terms of the Harish-Chandra-Itzykzon-Zuber (HCIZ) integral. We show that this formula immediately leads to a computation of the normalization of two point functions in terms of characters obtained originally in the work of Corley, Jevicki and Ramgoolam. We also find various generalizations for $A_{n-1}$ quivers that follow directly from other solvable integrals over unitary groups. All of these can be computed using localization methods. When we promote the parameters of the generating function to collective coordinates, there is a dominant saddle that controls the effective action of these coherent states in the regime where they describe single AdS giant gravitons. We also discuss how to add open strings to this formulation. These will produce calculations that rely on correlators of matrix components of unitaries in the ensemble that is determined by the HCIZ integral to determine anomalous dimensions. We also discuss how sphere giants arise from Grassman integrals, how one gets a dominant saddle and how open strings are added in that case. The fact that there is a dominant saddle helps to understand how a $1/N$ expansion arises for open strings. We generalize the coherent state idea to study $1/4$ and $1/8$ BPS states as more general integrals over unitary groups.

Abstract:We study the integrability and the Bethe/Gauge correspondence of the Generalized Calogero-Moser system proposed by Berntson, Langmann and Lenells [1] which we call the elliptic quadruple Calogero-Moser system (eqCM). We write down the Dunkl operators which give commuting Hamiltonians of the quantum integrable system. We identify the gauge theory in correspondence is a supergroup version of the gauge origami, from which we construct the transfer matrix of the eqCM system.

Abstract:This paper introduces two operations in quiver gauge theories. The first operation takes a quiver with a permutation symmetry $S_n$ and gives a quiver with adjoint loops. The corresponding 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ Coulomb branches are related by an orbifold of $S_n$. The second operation takes a quiver with $n$ nodes connected by edges of multiplicity $k$ and replaces them by $n$ nodes of multiplicity $qk$. The corresponding Coulomb branch moduli spaces are related by an orbifold of type $\mathbb{Z}_q^{n-1}$. The first operation generalises known cases that appeared in the literature. These two operations can be combined to generate new relations between moduli spaces that are constructed using the magnetic construction.

Topological K-theory of quasi-BPS categories for Higgs bundles

Abstract:In a previous paper, we introduced quasi-BPS categories for moduli stacks of semistable Higgs bundles. Under a certain condition on the rank, Euler characteristic, and weight, the quasi-BPS categories (called BPS in this case) are non-commutative analogues of Hitchin integrable systems. We proposed a conjectural equivalence between BPS categories which swaps Euler characteristics and weights. The conjecture is inspired by the Dolbeault Geometric Langlands equivalence of Donagi--Pantev, by the Hausel--Thaddeus mirror symmetry, and by the $\chi$-independence phenomenon for BPS invariants of curves on Calabi-Yau threefolds. In this paper, we show that the above conjecture holds at the level of topological K-theories. When the rank and the Euler characteristic are coprime, such an isomorphism was proved by Groechenig--Shen. Along the way, we show that the topological K-theory of BPS categories is isomorphic to the BPS cohomology of the moduli of semistable Higgs bundles.

Abstract:Without recourse to the sophisticated machinery of twisted group algebras, projective character tables and explicit values of 2-cocycles, we here present a simple algorithm to study the gauge theory data of D-brane probes on a generic orbifold G with discrete torsion turned on. We show in particular that the gauge theory can be obtained with the knowledge of no more than the ordinary character tables of G and its covering group G*. Subsequently we present the quiver diagrams of certain illustrative examples of SU(3)-orbifolds which have non-trivial Schur Multipliers. The paper serves as a companion to our earlier work hep-th/0010023 and aims to initiate a systematic and computationally convenient study of discrete torsion.

Abstract:We study integrable models in the context of the recently discovered Gauge/YBE correspondence, where the Yang-Baxter equation (YBE) is promoted to a duality between two supersymmetric gauge theories. We study flavored elliptic genus of 2d N = (2, 2) quiver gauge theories, which are defined from statistical lattices regarded as quiver diagrams. Our R-matrices are written in terms of theta functions and simplify considerably when the gauge groups at the quiver nodes are Abelian. We also discuss the modularity properties of the R-matrix, reduction of 2d index to 1d Witten index, and string theory realizations of our theories.
